Redrose, you can get seeds for green apple eggplants at Tomato Growers Supply. They have many, many types of tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. I hope you can find what you're looking for.
If you will look under Garden Watchdog at the top of Dave's Garden page it can take to to a link there. It is also known as TGS. Good luck.

Yes!!! We have already mounded new compost on our 1 year old asparagus bed, put in a new bed of 1 year old asparagus, (Jersey King), planted onion sets, and prepared a 3' X 8' bed. The next nice day we have (it's a bit chilly and windy, today) I'm going to bury the soaker hose in the prepared bed, and plant snow-peas along the fence, kohlrabi down the center, and a mesclun mix around the edges.

How long it will take to be ready for asparagus, I never try to plant that my favorite always buy from the can.

we put our tomatos and green peppers in today. it's so funny. we had a freeze 3 days ago and it finally killed the plants from last spring. we had fresh tomatos and peppers until a week ago. now we start over. if we get any cold weather we'll just cover them up for a day or two.

Redrose, we are putting in asparagus as well. I am growing it from seed now. Best I remember, you won't have many good shoots until the second year and will really start producing the third year. I have to decide where we are putting ours because once it's there, you leave it.

I want to have a huge garden again this year but have to decide where to put that too then clear it! Sigh..

BS do what that much longer for Asparagus oh man, I did not know that was so long so thank for let me know.
What kind of vegetable are you going to plant a huge garden hope it will grow so well and healthy look this year, I am sure it will give you a lot of work to do for that big garden but it is fun.

Many years ago we put in 25 Asparagus plants and did they ever take off. We had so much Asparagus that the kids would come home from school and make Hollandaise Sauce and have the Asparagus as a snack. I think that was the same sping that our Lab kept showing up with a dead Pheasant in her mouth. I guess she didn't know it wasn't hunting season. Ate real well that spring (LOL)!

We've had an asparagus bed since we set up our vegetable + gardens 14 years ago. We've added some purple asparagus but haven't had good luck with them. Last year we added another 20 to replace some that were getting low on production. We normally harvest about 500 spears each season and by June 21st you can almost watch them growing. We make asparagus roasted with garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, asparagus soup, asparagus and eggs, asparagus with pasta, asparagus ice cream - no just kidding about that last one! Wanted to see if you were really reading.

LoL never heard of Ice cream asparagus if do what it will be taste like I bet argggh. I did not know it has purple one.

Nothing is ever waste with asparagus. IF the bottoms are tough we just toss them in the six compost piles, right next to the asparagus bed.

Badseed, what variety of asparagus are you putting in? I've learned that "Martha Washington" includes alot of females, which don't produce spears. Also a bit of that with some of the purples, I guess. You must have amazing growing conditions if you plan to harvest from 3 year old beds planted from seed. My neighbor, who has been gardening in our area for 8 years, says I should refrain from harvesting until the spears are thicker than my little finger. Letting the ferns feed the roots for several years will make for larger harvests down the road, but patience isn't my strong suit!!! We planted one yr old roots and didn't get a spear/fern bigger than a thich pencil the first year. We'll see what comes up this year!! Good luck!

desertwitch: you are 100% correct. Never pick any that are narrower than a pencil and the plants will do fine. The greens don't get cut down, here, until Thanksgiving weekend.

it's the year for asparagus.... I'm putting in a bed of Jersey King, I bought 1 year old crowns. I'm hoping to do that this weekend, dependent on how well son does in the District Wrestling match.... (we thought he'd be finished after the sectionals)

I've bought a lot of seed.... but still have a few more things to get.

They taste so great straight out of the garden, just standing there munching on them!
