This is the second scape from a HUGE bulb. Alas, all the blooming and seed-producing has kept root production at a minimum. A few leaves started, then halted at about 2.5 inches.

At one point there were 4 of 5 flowers open at once on the last scape, but I didn't get any pix. :-(

Great color.

boojum~

Thanks. Having the plant bloom outside made the colors quite intense, even more so than my cam could capture. When they were fully matured, the blooms had a deep almost saturated orange. So nice.

As you can see, too, the second scape is shorter than the first due to the stronger light it received.

DOES ANYONE KNOW SOURCES FOR THE DARKEST RED SINGLES? IN US CATALOGS, THE ONLY "BLACK"-RED AMARYLLIS I OCCASIONALLY FIND OFFERED ARE ONLY SEMI-DARK: ROYAL VELVET, ROMA, AND SOMEWHAT DARKER: RED PEARL, BLACK PEARL (I THINK THESE TWO ARE THE SAME). NONE OF THESE IS NEARLY AS DARK AS WHAT I SAW IN HOLLAND A FEW YEARS AGO.
CHEERS!

This is the second set of blooms from "Dancing Queen" the first bloomed June 20th and was very short, about 1' now the second set have opened on July 16 and are nearly 2' high. Color and flower size the same. I had them in the same place the whole time. That's nature for you. I have ordered some new ones on the coop running now. I just need to figure out how to get them to bloom when I want them to bloom. Any suggestions? Grandma Dora which I saw in person is unbelievable. I did order Aphrodite which I have always wanted plus several others. Some for gifts. Patti
