More Amaryllis Blooms...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Okie dokie, here are some pics. The first one I think is Jewel, blooming for the 2nd time since I planted in Dec. From B&B fall sale.

next is amaryllis Green Goddess, also from B&B fall sale. Both whites, Jewell and GG, are planted close together, and they are so similar that it just makes for a mess of white. I don't believe a casual observer could even tell they are two different varieties. I guess they are different because the GG has a green throat and Jewel doesn't.

The GG has been blooming for over 1 week.

here is a beautiful unidentified red, which I got in a trade last year. If anybody knows what it is, pls let me know. I am going to post in the ID forum and hope to get its name. I don't think this is Red Lion. My RL is bigger and has not bloomed yet, though it had buds.

The one in the background is Double Record, a two-year old, doing its thing. After Red Lion, the is the 2nd amaryllis I ever got. I really love amaryllises.

BTW, this is my amaryllis bed. I have about 10 different ones and most are beginning to show buds.

Wish I could plant outside! Lucky you. Great bed.

I'm curious if GG has leaves. Maybe minis bloom before they leaf out...Mine are all species and minis.

Beautiful pics! Yes boojum, yours is definitely a keeper!

I haven't grown a lot of amaryllis but the leaves have always come long after the blooms.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Boojum, if you look really close at the bottom of the stem of the pic I posted, there is a tiny leaf, about 1" from the ground. I planted 5 GG bulbs (price was great at B&B and the min. was 5 bulbs) and all have leaves, in various stages of growth.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I like them even more seeing them planted in the ground, just loveyly Nery!

you are all so kind and I am oh so proud!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I've got 'Green Goddess' in bloom right now...

marvelous pic for the 2006 photo contest.

Wow...no kiddin'!

Nice!
Guess what? The red and white that I posted above is NOT Melusine, it's Charisma! I just wrote to John Scheepers to see if I still can get Melusine. It's a heck of a way to get free amarylli but I'll take it. They also had to send me another Emerald cause when it bloomed it was Ruby Meyer. It probably isn't even their fault-they most likely were labeled wrong in Holland or somewhere.

Another case of a mislabeled amaryllis. Got this bulb at Walmart, I believe, in Florida (supplier is Sun Bulb Company). Definitely not Apple Blossom. I'm having problems with rot on this bulb (there's not a lot left that's solid), yet it's blooming. I imagine if it survives, it will be a long time before I have blooms again. :-(

But it sure is a big, beautiful bloom. :)

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Moby, it is, although it's VERY droopy. (Notice the angle I had to take the picture from.) I imagine that's due to the problems the bulb has. I knew it wasn't that healthy when I bought it but it was cheap. I figured I'd give it a shot.

What kind do you think it is? I've been looking in the Plant Files, but I'm not sure...

I vote for Dancing Queen. I think there are several pics further up in this thread.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

That's what I think it is, too.

My virus-infected 'Susan' is putting up another flower stalk... Oh how I wish it weren't infected!!! :-(

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Yet another amaryllis heard from this week!

'Misty'

I love the delicate, yet crisp nature to this bloom. It's also much smaller than any of my other amaryllis. And the shading of color...

I have my eye on that one

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Misty is wonderful!!!!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

here is my Red Lion. It is awfully orange in this pic but in reality it is the red that most of you amaryllis fans are familiar with.

I notice the flowers are about 20% bigger this year, the 2nd year inground, full sun.

Nothing too special, but a cheery kitchen....

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Love the Red Lions!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Gorgeous!!

kbaumle--that's a 'jewel' amaryllis. Thankyou.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I've got two amaryllis blooming right now. The virus-infected 'Susan' again, and I was hoping this time it wouldn't show signs of the virus, but no such luck. :-( And a deep, velvety red one I picked up at Walmart in Florida in February that was supposed to be red with a white stripe. It's such a gorgeous shade of red, though, that I don't mind really.

That is a beautiful red!

Anybody having trouble with yellowing leaves and/or leaves breaking at the base?

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Moby, I've had both things occur, but it was after the bloom was done, and I didn't worry too much about it.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

not right this minute, but it seems to be the case during the hottest part of summer. I don't worry too much about it, either.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

At this rate, I won't have any more leaves by summer!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I have several that have no leaves. I've left them in the pots and stopped watering. When it's warm enough, I'll put them in the ground until September or so and then bring them in and probably pot them up around the first of November.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Do they have no leaves because they've lost them or they haven't grown yet? Mine seem to be so heavy and long that they're breaking at the base.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Moby I was wondering if you or others plant their amaryllis is the garden during the summer? I have a few but have never put them out except in the pot?

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Bluegrassmom, that's what I'm going to do. My mom always does that.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I planned on putting them out in pots.
