Anybody have more blooms coming?
Here's a question for you all ~ these pink flowers came in a bouquet and I'm guessing they're in the amaryllis family. Any ideas as to what they are?
More Amaryllis Blooms...
Looks like Nerine bowdenii

Ooo, you're good! Thanks wallaby
I have Pink Floyd and Melusine in bud as well as repeats of Carina and Fairy Tale. Pics to follow.
...and I think they had the pink Nerine at B&B. At least I think so. I know I've seen them online somewhere during this past week. I plan to try to grow some red and white Nerine in a pot this summer.
I don't think I'll be going after any Nerine as I have enough things ordered that I need to find room for.
Can't wait to see them, boojum. :)
I didn't think I would go after any Nerine either, but when I saw one for real I bought it. Now I have a new red one on order! Might try a white next, would go well with the red....
I'm waiting on 'Dancing Queen', 'Red Lion', and 'Appleblossom'.
'Appleblossom' might open tomorrow!
I'm waiting on my Appleblossm to open soon too..I guess I have another addiction starting with these babies..
Loretta..
Wallaby - I'm going to plant the red and white nerine in the same pot. I just haven't figured out how big the pot should be yet.
beaker_ch, the one I bought in a pot started to push the sides when it grew bulblets at the sides. They could really do with at least 4" between.
Oh, you've got one going now? How long have you had it? I'm curious about how they will overwinter and how prolific they are in producing new bulbs. Have you discovered any special requirements; do they like to stay on the dry side? I haven't gotten around to researching that one yet, so any insights would be welcome.
I have got to stop watchinging these threads. Now I really believe I have to have every color of Nerine there is. How many is that?? I have to have one of every amaryllis and since I have been on amaryllis blooms, I will have to live to be 200 to probablly find them all.
Did not know how many and how beautiful each are.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
beaker_ch, I got mine sometime late summer in 2004, already growing in a pot and in flower bud, it flowered the next year also and was already making a small offset when I got it. It has pushed well away from the parent by late 2005 and made at least 3 offsets, I potted it joblot into a bigger pot until the offsets get bigger. I also got some small bulblets made from the flower, like fleshy seeds, 3 I think. I just buried them next to mom plant, that is often a good idea I think until they get going, I did that with a calla lily, the Z. albomaculata, in a whole head, they germinated the next summer then I transplanted them.
I have so far kept mine in a cold, shady greenhouse for the coldest weather, in a freedraining leafy compost mix. This one is supposed to be hardy here, but until I get more growing well I tend to be careful as you don't know what conditions they have been growing in when you get them. I keep it moist, but I don't think it should be overwatered, treat similarly to the hardy Amaryllis I think, but don't remember what I may have read! Mine seems to be happy, in your zone it wouldn't survive in a cold greenhouse. I think they like sun, mine doesn't mind some shade.
The other varieties are more tender, so I would be careful with the water and keep them warmer.
Mine has but it is in the greenhouse, it's the same family as the African Amaryllis, not the Hippeastrum house plant.
Do you know the names of yours? Mine is supposed to be a new one, Red Pimpernel, they don't have the list on now so no pic, did find one from a seller on ebay but pic looks faint. It has very long stamens. I got mine (not yet) from www.jacquesamand.com they have an American site on this, looked recently and there is more available than on the UK one, your season in places is later. They will come back for the Autumn. Also have lots of Arisaema, I got the A. griffithii v. pradhanii.
Red = Nerine sarniensis corusca "Major"
White = Nerine flexuosa
Both are said to bloom in late summer/early fall. Dutch growers I believe. They sure are pretty. I hope they don't turn out to be finicky.
I checked out the Jacques Amand site and saw the lily Bach. What a beauty. I hope it is offered in the US. I think I'll write and ask.
If you clicked on the US link at the top, that is what is available there, they have an office there. It might be a good idea to contact them anyway, last year they had an Amaryllis on both sites, but hadn't got it in stock, and couldn't get it. It was Hippeastrum Reggae, they had it in stock this year (sent me a letter) so I ordered it.
beaker_ch, I have never used drugs, but I think I am beginning to understand ADDICTION. I am hooked. I have to have these too. I guess this make you the dealer. LOL
Thank you so much. You are so sweet to post pictures for me. Where is a good place to buy these?
So many pretty flowers and so little space. But I always manage to find room.
Those are beautiful pictures. Thank you so much. Are they expensive?
Wallby1, That is an awesome web site. I see papillo is the cheapest I have seen I believe. 16.50? Or is there a better website?
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
I haven't found a better one, Papillio is at least £9 here, which is around $15.75. The bulbs I got from them last year were really big, they just specialise in bulbs so are possibly better to deal with than another which deals in all sorts, and you are going to get the correct bulb. Some others will substitute, which is very annoying! If they haven't got it they will tell you, you might be annoyed but it is better than wasting your money.
Have you looked at the arisaemas?
Janet
Sandy - I ordered the Nerine from Dutch Gardens. 3 bulbs for 9.95. Brent and Becky's Bulbs also have other types of Nerine that run from 7.00 to 21.00 for multiple bulbs.
You can get Papilio from John Scheepers for 9 something, but I saw it at a local nursery last fall for about 5.00. Check locally first because you also have to pay shipping.
If you got addicted on these that quick, don't EVER go on the Lily Forum. You'll be lost for sure (and I can just hear your little fingers tapping on over there!).
Whooppeee, I bet you are pleased! 3 for impact! It looks very similar to Reggae, I like the cybister forms. Great setting too.
beaker_ch
tapping as fast as my fat little fingers can go. Your are a dealer. ROTFLOL Bet you are there seeing how fast I post. And I could win the gold medal if going from here to lily forum was an olympic sport.
LOL You are truely trying to get me in the dog house.
Okay I will paypal 5.00. LOL
We only have the commons around here. Like the boxed at Christmas.
I have never seen anything else and I am a nursery hound. Red, white,
apple blossom, and orange and pink. Like at Lowes and walmart and such. Have never seen an amaryllis bulb except those in the box at christmas.
I do have an orange clivia, Has not bloomed yet. still young. And I have crinums are they related?
Love your flowers KB ~ grandma is right!
Sandy - I don't know too much about either. I do know crinums are huge, so wouldn't do well in my little house. I think clivia are related to amaryllis. If it can be grown indoors, I may get to it someday.
BTW, I think a more appropriate term is enabler. I certainly don't get rich on DG. In fact, it's the other way around.
kbaumle - The LaPaz ARE gorgeous.
beaker_ch Thanks! I did not think of enabler as was more around some of my family being, acoholics. They just feel so get when they are not feeding there addiction alone.
I am sorry about the term as I sure know what you mean. We either become poor due to sharing all we have freely, or, so many of what we have with our family here,
Or, seeing a beautiful picture and the blood rushes to my brain and next things I know I have a pkg on my porch and do not recall ever ordering it, but blame it on someone or something else. LOL
You enabler you!! ROTFLOL! Thanks fo all the advice and the
beautiful pictures. Please keep them coming.. They are what keeps
dreams alive, Knowing the beauty of our yard in our brain, is what
keeps the beauty of knowing our checking or savings are not way
just into the red in real life.
I've always loved the delicate colors of Apple Blossom. :)
Moby and everybody-- I love your thread! So many beautiful amaryllis! t.
That's a nice pic! It's so hard to catch the glitter ~
beaker if you could have Clivia Pink Sensation and C. Chanel I think you might change your mind! from another enabler!

you will have to click on 'related links' 'clivia net' 'photo gallery' to see them, goes back to home

Well, I do know a little about Cliva. I know they are darn expensive!
ooh, I see they have seed. Is that expensive too? Let's hope the weather is better this weekend or off I go on another quest (LOL).
I've been spending the evening looking at daylilies. I know they are not a bulb, but I do like them. I just looked (didn't buy). I've been peeking in at the Curb Appeal forum from time to time. Always makes me think I should sell my lawn mower and put the entire place into gardens. Wishful thinking on my part. I would really have to invest in a drip watering system.
Anyway, I was thinking daylilies would be a quick way to cover some ground. Just start small in the middle and work my way out.
Back to the Clivia. Someone down in Texas was showing me her orange Clivia, (oh, I guess it was this thread - short memory!) which was much more reasonable in price, but it didn't grab me. Now that pink is something I could get into. I suppose it would take 2 or 3 years to flower from seed.
There is a page on the clivia net where suppliers from different places list their seed, not too bad in price, you have to sign up which I did twice I think! but not yet got any availability emails, the one on that link said available from June. Trouble is you have to know what they all look like, i fell in love with Pink Sensation, like you I am not grabbed by the others although I think they are quite pretty. i don't think you would be able to get that, some don't make much seed, but you do need to look arund the site in depth, there is lots there, japanese growers also sell seed, but I WANT that pink one!
There is a place here called www.tomorrowsplants.com that sells some seed at this time, I do like Clivia gardenii, yet to take the plunge!
This Sth African site sells some and other interesting things, not so easy for ordering, I read somewhere on an Amaryllis thread about a wild Blue Amaryllis, click on the Worsleya at the top, that is the true blue Amaryllis, very rare to get and costs a fortune if you can. It grows on steep mountainous cliffs in Brazil i think, and needs pollen from different provenance to set seed, so breeders swap pollen, it takes 10 years to produce a flowering bulb at least.
