Is Canada's W*I*N*T*E*R back???

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Oh Ginny that's just icky! You must appreciate weekends then, lol! My DH and I work together and have a 45min commute (sometimes 1 hour) across the 401 (west to east) and we can't stand it. So we're now moving our business closer to home and we'll end up with a 5 min commute....woohoo! I'd still like to get away from suburbia though. You live near Goderich right? There's a very beautiful spot there to sit and watch the sunset over Lake Huron and as I recall a lighthouse. I'd give anything to be sitting there on a warm summer night.....sigh..

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Hey Pam - it's the coffee that gets me through :-) One before I leave the house, stop at Timmy's on the way, one at work at about 7:30, another at 10:00. On the way home, stop at same Timmy's, then no more coffee for me for the day.

Amen to that!!!!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Well in Ottawa, it was so lovely when I left for Aquafit at 8:30 this am, I almost wore running shoes. Before I got to the pool (5 minute drive), it was snowing. Significant accumulation by 10 am. Now it's icy pellets. All in all, it doesn't look good for the rest of the day.

No idea what we got - not much snow thats for sure but it is cold. Ive been without internet access since Monday evening and the TV is on the blink so I only know the temp by going out! We were supposed to have an agility practice today ( an arena north of city) but decided to stay off the roads which apparently are somewhat dangerous . I hear it is supposed to be pretty cold this weekend which reall sucks as we have an agility competition and the arena is always cold! Well I am working score table so I can sty in a relatively warm area thank goodness.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yep I just heard from my co-workers that we are looking at -50 °C by this evening. Please say a little prayer for my DD and her fellow SK travelling student companions........they're heading home, today or tomorrow from your province.

Currently here:

FEELS LIKE -41°C
WIND N 17 km/h GUSTS

Dig out a REALLY WARM snowsuit!!! ;(

Hope you Easterner's have your snowblowers filled with gas!!!

People (like me) who live in Huron county like to tell the "southerners" that we have 2 seasons here - 11 months of winter, and 1 month of hard sledding :-) Our snowblower is *ALWAYS* read to go!

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL....kinda fingured that. ;) Maybe I should drain the gas outta ours??? (sorta like washing the car, or watering the grass, when you want rain)

Went out for lunch today and our waitress is an Australian here on a year work visa. She said she walked 6 blocks today and her face was burning hot!?!?! She decided she better start using her scarves differently. ;)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Prediction for tonite in Calgary : -31, real feel -38. tomorrow it starts warming up.
Took the dogs out this morning , didnt go out again all day - hope it gets warmer by morning - gotta take the garbage out before noon!

A friend came in today to install some stairwell railings - this is Bailey telling him what hecan do with his drill - he hates high pitch noises!

Ahhhhh looks like Bailey has a pretty good handle on his emotions tho. :)

The forecast for tomorrow seems to be different at weathernetwork than on TV now. It sure looks promising that the bitter cold will be gone from the prairies by Saturday. Ü DH and I are still trying to get ahold of DD to strongly suggest Saturday would also be a much safer day to hit the highway on.

Not gonna say anything about the Easterner's forecast however....except it arriving on the weekend will be a *bit* of a blessing! :S

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I feel like I missed out on winter in Canada and Montana. It still is 38F here in Kodiak Ak. You guys are so lucky! My wife is having to turn on the gas heat the wood stove isn't keeping up. -20F tonight. I told her to keep the thermastat at 40 degrees. Plenty warm HAHA

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yer a funny one Soferdig.....BTW is your dog house heated??? ;)

-47 degree Celsius = -52.6 degree Fahrenheit currently here and am fighting with the cat for a spot on the radiator.

After looking at the weather channel I also hope all of you Easterners also have studded tires and spiked shoes.

Just have to post one more pic........Are you feeling a little colder echoes???

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

BRRRRRRRRRRR

It's even chilly here tonight, real temp -4, wind chill, yes there is a wind chill here, is -14. It's mild compared to most of you, but it's chilly here. They are saying that the cherry trees that are out in bloom (albeit early) might get damaged.

The last big wind storm last week took out my GH

But I have these to look forward to, if they survive the big freeze.

Yep your delicate zone 8 plants will be suffering too Linda. :(

Ouch! Are the polls bent beyond repair?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Sad to see them with buds on........Do you have them covered with a light underneath?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

yeah, the poles are bent beyond repair, they actually bent at places other than the joints. It's just a pile of scrap metal poles now, but hte PVC plastic made it OK, except for a broken zipper, wanna buy a GH..... cheap?! ;)

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL.........ahhhhhhhhhh hmmmmmmmmm thanks but no. ;)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

MG99 you will have to do what I do for my sensitive plants. Vent the dryer all night with plastic cover over the plants to the vent. My Full Moon Maple is under a plastic covered 20W light bulb. My wife is probably buying another dog. This is definatly a 3 Dog night.
What is a GH?

Especially with you heading to the dog house on your return home. :)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

My wife loves me too much to send me to the dog house. She is a tough farmer girl. She won't even know I'm not there. I have left my blow up look alike with a pre recorded mono-sylabic conversation.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

naw, the daffs are against the south side of the house, tis a north wind tonight. Have way too many to cover in the gardens. Back, front and side and in the front yard. There's many bluebells / grape hyacinths ready to sprout buds, and lots of new growth on the roses. I have the deck boarded up and a small space heater out there, but it's like spitting in the wind, barely noticable.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Soferdig, does your tape recording inclued " yes dear"??

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yep that would prolly fool most wives.

However I'll make sure she gets a copy of this

Crossing my fingers for you Linda......yours *might* have a hope (if'n they are real toughies).

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

The recording goes like this: Uh ..... Huh........ Yeah.......... Ummmmm...... yup......... hummmm... everything I do I do for you! Hmmmmm.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Post tomorrow......when are you supposed to warm up?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOLOLOL ........ Soferdig you blew it (unless you are newly married???)

My wife and I have been best friends for over 30 years and only got together 10 years ago after we both got dumped by are spouses. She is an angel and would smile and say yah sure to this whole discussion.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Darn. :( You are like my DH then (and she prolly just listens to just 1/4 of what you have to say anyway;). So my blackmailing scheme won't work.

Tried to go to work this morning. We only made it 5km out of town and we were crazy to even try going that far. Turned around in a farmer's laneway and came right back home. Snowsqualls and strong gusty winds here with zero visibility on the highway for the most part. --Ginny

Belwood, ON(Zone 5a)

Yea, long weekend for ginny! I was just looking at the radar and your getting hammered right about now, snow squalls forecast for tomorrow too with these winds.

In 24 hours we've had snow, about 4 inches, freezing rain, lots, then a thunder storm about 5 last night and it rained most of the night, temps went up all night long and now they are falling like a stone, it went down 5 degrees in 45 minutes.

If you don't like the weather just wait a hour, it'll change....

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Looking forward to seeing your pics folks!!! Weather channel just said that a metal recycle unit full of glass was moving down the street somewhere in Ontario.

Here inside the house is really cold. :S Outside it's still brutal.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Oh boy are some of you gunna get it. :

Quebecers better wear skates today. Eh Milan. ;)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Freezing rain here started around 5 am, after 3-4 inches of snow yesterday. The sidewalks and sidestreets in Centretown Ottawa are sheer ice. I almost took a header walking Zoë, and she wasn't too happy at the poor footing either. A good day to be in front of the computer.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

II dont know what it did last night but right now offical temp is -22. Sun is out, have not taken the dogs out yet so not sure about wind chill. Supposed to sart warming up today(!) to about -10 , not much wind and continue to warm up next few days. No snow

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hurry up and send that warmth my way fancy! Ü

Sorry Andy I saw the weather channel after and realized you'd be in the same boat too.

Hillsburgh, ON(Zone 5a)

This is what I saw out my front door last night. After the freezing rain, it continued to rain and then the fog rolled in.
