Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Back one more time before I sign off for the day.

Went out a bit this afternoon. Over to the next street over to deliver a couple of tax receipts for the Food Cupboard. They'd been sitting on my dining room table for a week or so (since we are local, we hand-deliver as many as possilbe now that postage is 51 cents plus 3 cents GST).
Then to the drug store for more nasl spray.

Had dinner and the phone rang - a good friend wondering if we were coming to dinner. We TOTALLY forgot. Somehow it never got put on the calendar - just in my e-mail In box. And the hostess I generally see at church, but last week she was away on a ski trip with the youth and I also usually see her on Wednesdays at the FC when she volunters, but last week I went along with DH to his pre-op appointment. Anyway, since we had eaten, we declined on dinner. DH went over for dessert, but I pleased the cold and stayed home. Hope to make it to church tomorrow, but no sense spreading my germs around this evening and maybe not even tomorrow.

I've worked over a bunch of African violets which seem to have been infected with aphids froma garden plant I had inside earlier. Took them all out of the pots, cut them back and thoroughly sprayed them with insecticidal soap and put them back into clean pots with new soil. I hope that does the trick. So far I've been able to contain it just to about 6 plants.

And I played a bit on the new computer. Will be awhile before we get the Internet connected to it. Will have to connect with our ISP to change to high speed and while they have service on weekends, the sales people aren't there. Meanwhile, we'll lumber along on the old one. also need to get software for the new computer - WordPerfect suite. I refuse to use Word. Eudora for e-mail, other peripherals such as an FTP program for uploading web pages, and a new version of my music notation program, Sibelius. The demo of the newest version kept crashing my archaic computer so I'm using quite an old version.

Hope you all have a good evening.

It's snowing out! The hardest stuff is comming during the wee hours of the morning. Really tired tonight. Didn't do that much today, didn't even slay the laundry monster.

Sarv - what is it with men and OUR plants!!! If I don't put orange flags or stakes around things until they are big enought that he can't miss them, they get mowed off. His excuse - " you shouldn't have planted it in my way". Grrrrr.

Oz - those stories made my day. Too funny!

Kelly - Great pictures!

Can't hold my eyes ope any longer. Nitey nite all, see ya in the mornin.

VAnn & DMC - Hope your colds get better quickly.

Good evening, GOB's & 'Ettes!

We're back finally. DH and I went to Everett today to buy a utility trailer and came home with a 5' x 10' trailer. Now I'll have something to haul the pruning and grass clippings to the yard waste recycle center as well as a vessel to haul the junk out of the garage that's been accumulating there for, ohhhh, 18 year or so. I'm ashamed to even say it, we've become the pack rats my Depression Era father was. I used to go nuts cleaning out his garage when I was younger, trying to get rid of stuff that he still had left over from the 30's and 40's and look who turned into her father's daughter! LOL

On the way back, we stopped at *Home Depot* to pick up a tarp and some tie downs as well as a spider net for the utility trailer. While I was there, I just kind of moseyed over to the garden center. They are already getting in some of their early spring plantings and of course the bare roots are there. I'm telling you, it was like taking a junkie to a meth lab. I was "jonesing" so badly! I was about to break out in a sweat and get all dizzy and stuff just itching to get my paws on those new plants. All I could see was palates and palates of colour; primroses, impatiens, pots of tulips, crocus, hyacinths, grape hyacinths.....need I say more?!? I saw one of those garden carts like Darius and MollyMc have and that just did me in. DH caught up with me after getting his 8 feet of chain cut and figured I'd wandered into the garden area and dragged me away. He laughed, said I had "a glazed look in my eyes," and he knew he'd better get me out of there quick or we would be completely broke! So, I settled on a few packets of seeds for now and a flat of started discs. He also bought me a grow light so I can get my seeds started and grow some sweet basil for him this summer.

I'm sure I was a pitiful sight as we went through the check-out line. The gal who rang us out just laughed, said, "Oh, honey, it's only mid-February. Just wait another 3 weeks and we'll have TONS of stuff in and you can leave your hubby at home and get your fix without him." I burst out laughing and she said, "I know what you're going through, I've seen several people come in here today with the same look. It only takes one day of sunshine like we've had today and EVERYONE starts jonesing!"

I managed to get a few shots in with the camera today. The Cascade mountains were absolutely majestic; snow-capped and clear as clear could be. We drove through the Skagit Valley on the way down to Everett and saw fields upon fields of snow geese. It was just a perfect day and as lovely as one can ever ask for. I posted a couple of shots in the Photo Forum.

I pray all are well and enjoying their weekend. I hope to catch you all tomorrow. It's been awhile since DH and I were able to get away together and enjoy a day doing things other than care giving. Today was a real blessing.

Oz , I laughed really hard over your fishing stories. I like to fish but am not much of an expert. Mostly I fish in streams for trout, now, and sometimes in a nearby lake for bream and bass. When I lived on the coast, my spousal unit had a small runabout and we went out into the inland waterway and other sounds. I remember one night we caught Virginia mullets until my arms hurt. Then we went home and had to spend most of the night cleaning an d freezing fish. But it was worth it for the fun of catching all those fish.
When John gets up, I am going to read your story to him.
We got snow too, here and even though a lot of it melted today, we are supposed to get more tonight and it's much colder. I hope most of it melts tomorrow because Monday I have to get to town to a meeting.

Hi all
Well, it's taken all day for me to get back over here. I've had a lot going on today and don't have long now. Need to get in the bed so I'll be rested for church tomorrow.
Got the outfit the DH bought me last week from the cleaners this morning first thing. It's so so pretty. The lady that does my alterations always does such a neat job. Both the pants and jacket had to be hemmed. LOL I was planning to save it for tomorrrow, but wore it to the funeral home tonight as it was so cold. Sure am glad pant suits are acceptable at church now. It's suppose to be *cold* in the morning.

Hi Maria ... am waving at you. LOL

Babs, sounds like you had such a wonderful day with your DH today. Am so glad you had a restful day out. You *really* deserved a nice day out. Oh, and a new cart. How nice!

Suzie, hope you sleep good. And don't worry ... that laundry monster will still be there waiting on you. LOL Hope your grits turn out. *wink*

Mary, sure wish I'd been at your house for supper tonight. Yum, did that ever sound good. LOL

Well, I sure hope everyone with colds feels better tomorrow. It is always so miserable when you have a rotten cold. Everyone stay warm and just veg out if you can. To the rest of y'all ... stay well!
Hugs all way round. ... Elaine

We are on freeze warnings again tonight. We've put all the baby plants into the pumphouse. Another couple nights of cold and we may go into a warmer few days after that.

We didn't get a lot done on the fence today, it kept raining. Since my brother came in from Orlando, thought maybe we could get a little bit done in between the rain drops. We did get all the posts in and a few diagonal supports. I finish raking the debris in the back yard.

My DB and DSIL always bring great food and she cooks it. YumYum. They are driving back tonight since he's on call tomorrow. He left his come along and spreader thingy's with us to do the wire with. We'll probably take the day off tomorrow then get back at it Monday.

Here's the guys.

I'm back!!

Sarv, 2x4 is coming your way. Bring in some of the clematis, use rooting harmone, and pot it up, bet that you will have new starts for spring.

Maria, that soda bread sounds good. Babs post, brought back some memories for you. Good ones too.

Meezer, Sounds like you had a good if your feet are hurting. Sorry about not getting to meet anyone.

Susieq, was that breakfast an early valentine gift?

Oz, I just cackled like a hen at your stories. DH was watching TV, and came over to see what was so funny. He read them, and commented that he had had some experiences like that, but nothing quite that funny. Let us know about the Valentine's dance. The Ky. State Horseshoe pitching champion lives next door to us. She is 27, single, blond, etc. etc. She is DH's cousin.

Carat, did you play in the dirt today?

Vann, sorry about the cold. But good news about the lunch, new computer, concert. Missed dinner, I've had that happen to me too. Embarrasing.

Molly, don't know anything about electricity, except to get it to work you have to plug it in. Yeah Molly for getting the fencing done.

dmc, Sorry about the cold sneaking up from behind. BTW, I looked at the farm forum and saw your pics.

FC. so your house was full of kids, fur kids, dog, and brother. How in the world do you type with that going on?

GG Bookwork, yuk, I still have some to be done on Monday. I love the Hillybilly pics.

101, Sorry about the yukky weather. It snowed last night here, and is snowing again now. Good news about the pants suit. I am so short that I have to have all my things hemmed. Sometimes even petite sizes also.

mg Thanks for the new link.

Darius, can Molly swim?

Mary, good for you a potential buyer for your horse. And a good ride, even though it's cold. And supper sounds good.

Babs, what in the world is jonesing? Never hear of it.

ws. I fish too, but don't think I am as dangerous as the gang oz hangs out with!! DH and I fish in farm ponds and a small lake about 15 minutes from us. Bass, crappie, bream, catfish. Good eating.

Well, went to the neighbor's tonight for a neighborhood potluck. She had 5 couples in the neighborhood. Had a very good meal. Roasted pork loin, green bean casserole, a potato casserole, asparagus and egg casserole, macaroni salad, a fruit salad, homemade wheat bread, and pecan and coconut pie for dessert. We just sat and talked after the meal, sort of catching up, as we don't see each other much during the winter. We are going to try to do this once a month, at a different house.

Well, DMIL still is not doing well. They were supposed to insert 2 chest tubes today to drain the fluid from her lungs. As of 10:30 tonight, it had not been done. DH is going early in the morning, to find out why it wasn't done. If some of these Dr's had breathing problems due to the fluid build up, they would have the procedure in 15 minutes. Grrr, some of these medical things just send me into a rant!!

I will be taking DM to her church tomorrow. That means that I have missed 5 sundays at my church. I really hate that, but as I know she won't be here forever, I am going along with what she wants to do. In the beginning, it was supposed to be a rotating arrangement, 1 week at her church, the next at mine. NOT. Have spoken with our minister to let him know the situation, he understands, but sometimes I don't.

Tomorrow night, I have a Mystery diner assignment. We are eating at a Smokey Bones. As hectic as things are here, this will probably be a Valentine's Day celebration. Hey I am not complaining, just happy that we will be able to get away, even if for 2 hours.

Well, since morning will arrive before I am ready, must get to bed. Hope all have a restful night. My thoughts are for those who are stricken with colds, and other aches and pains.

Defoe, I bow at your memory skills. WOW I sure hope MIL takes a turn back for the better soon.

Yes I did get to play in the dirt. I had to take a good long shower before going to look for boots for DS for the upcoming trip. I dont want him treking around in the woods with only tennis shoes on.

I planted the EE's and spider lilies I received from a friend along with starting a couple of ten foot rows of loose leaf lettuce seeds. Pulled all the pots and containers out of the gazebo where I have been keeping them as if it was a green house. Gave them all a drink and feed them. I saw a couple aphids on my Datura and brug so I went ahead and gave them all a light spray. I swept out the floor and then put them all back in with a bit better organization so now we should have more walking room. I moved some of the mulch around to recover the bulbs that are already up a bit to soon even for here. Discovered that my oregano, thyme and rosemary are all doing wonderful. I am so ready for spring. Remind me I said that when I am sore and whining after planting all the seed at the SC home next weekend.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday......
