Morning All,
Here's the daily con't from
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/575228

Have a good day,
Kelly

Oh y'all just had to come back and tell you the one most important thing of the day. The DH gave me an early Valentine present. It's a great big ... and I mean huge red and gold heart balloon and when you thump it ... it sings
Roses are red my love
Violents are blue
Sugar is sweet my love
But not as sweet as you!

Now what about that! LOL LOL
... Elaine
nighty night

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, 101, that is so sweet. Now you don't have to wonder what you are getting for Valentine's day!!

Oh I didn't tell you it's a healium filled balloon, but I guess you sort of figured that. Hey, Defoe ... did you see my new tomato pics? I'll have to see if I can figure out how to post a link. Go over to the tomato forum and you'll see them under ... "my very first tomatoes or something like that. LOL

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Yes, 101, I saw them. They look good. I had planned on getting some seeding done today, but life took over!!. Maybe tomorrow. I am going to set up my space in the garage, so that I will have everything I need there.

Well, I really am off to bed now.

Good night everyone.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning all!! Laid in bed until I couldn't stand it anymore - so I go up. DH needed the 2x4 last night- won't go into details, but he was a butt-head. No wood was put in the woodstove and when I did get up it was 58 deg in the house. I got on my sweats, turned on the heating pad, cranked up the furnace and sat down here! I'm sure there will be words when he gets up...

Did ya watch the opening ceremonies of the Olympics last night - were they awesome...but costing 34 mil??? Man, now that is way toooo much! I am glued to the TV during them tho - just love watching them.

My cousin who had the stroke (my age) cannot be alone anymore. He can dress himself and feed himself, but just doesn't understand things. He was a little that way when he was alone- for instance - he would leave his coffee pot plugged in 24/7, wall heater roaring all day. Ciggies burning...he was a hazard to himself. And now it is worse. I just hope they take his vehicle away from him. He had a new truck and after the stroke it was banged up everywhere - even the back bumper was missing. Sad, sad situation.

I had two close neighbors who clean that way Mary. One was so rigid that she could never do anything fun because she was on a schedule!! Now that they both are senior citizens, they have mellowed. I have never been that way at all. I did once make a schedule of when to do what, but lost the schedule LOL When things look dirty, I clean... Yesterday I put the dishes to soak and never did do them!! There's always today!

We haven't had our usual flock of pretty birds at the feeder this year. I'm thinking it is because we had little snow cover. Crazy weather still. I heard the people out west are getting dumped on tho!! Thinking of you Maria!!

Oz - our kitty was an outside one too and she seldom uses the inside litter pan. In the winter she sleeps inside, but when it warms up she always sleeps outside. I see her in the morning atop the window airconditoner snoozing away. Her only bad fault is scraping her claws on one recliner and one wall. We have rough sawn pine in the room she uses, but the sound drives me crazy. I"ve tried everything to break her of doing that.

I've been thinking of attacking the taxes....we've had them done the past several years, but I think I could do them myself now. I'll just use the tax preparers as a help. Plus my DS has turbo tax and he tells me it is so easy. Hmmmm decsions, decisions...

Well,, I'm hungry, so better go check out what's in the frig...

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thinking of you too, Sarv, and everyone else, love everyone just can not keep up with all of you, but I just finished baking some sweet Irish soda bread. This recipe was give to my DD when she visited Ireland from the woman she stayed with.
Have some, it is very good with coffee, you can even toast it with good fresh butter on it.

I'm off to the Madison Garden Expo with DH, taking camera, will catch up later. Looking forward to meeting some DGers, hope we can find each other.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Morning everyone. Have been keeping up with reading, but haven't posted anything. We're expecting lot of snow tonight - tomorrow mornig. 6 - 12 inches. Picked up DGS last night. He will be lots of fun in the snow, but not sure how we'll get him back home. It's about 45 miles away.

Susan, glad your kitties will be ok. They stress us as much or more than children.

Maria - I'll have some of theat soda bread with my coffee. Looks yummi!

DH took me out for breakfast this morning. Then took garbage to the dump. We have to take it to a central location where the Township brings in a truck. Either that or pay for pick up service. I'm too cheap to pay for the service, so between us, sis and parents, we take turns taking all the trash.

Gotta go beat down the laundry monster and check out some other forums.

Sorry I didn't comment to everyone. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

I have said I will tell this true fishing story that i have had to tell aorund here about 50 times. It might be long but every word of it is true as unbelievable as it is. I will try to get it done later today. It is kind of lengthy and cancerns a preacher.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Well it looks like I got time now so I will try to tell the story now.

About 5 years ago someone I know here called my wife and wanted me to take his preacher fishing. As it was the bass were biting very good in the early evening on top water lures. So I had her tell them to come over about 4 PM and bring a couple of rods and one are two top waters since that was all they would need. Well along about 4 here they come with tackel boxes a handful of rods and a duffel bag. You would have thought we was going to the northwoods for a week. Well I loaded all that into the boat as a good guide would do and off we went.

About the second place we stopped the preacher got a hit on his topwater. Well he yanked that thing back so hard the fish came off and the plug came right back like a bullet where it stuck in the other fellas forearm. I got out my things pushed the hook through and cut of the barb and removed the hook. We fished about another 15 minutes and the same thing happened again except this time the preacher hooked himself. Again I removed the hook. At this point he did not have but one side of the treble hook left. We moved down onto a bluff and the preacher makes a cast and the plug comes off and flys about 150 ft in back of the boat. He was standing back on the corner of the boat going "MY PLUG MY PLUG" I said hold on I will back the boat up and we will can pick it up. Well I was up on the front casting deck and reached back over the winshield and started the motor. I stepped around into the copit, tripped over all the gear, fell on the throttle sending 150 hp into forward gear sharply. The preacher he went flying out the back of the boat and went down like a rock. all I could see was bubble bubble bubble. I ask the other guy I said "can he swim" and he says "I dunno". With that my hair stood on end and I was about to go in there looking for him for all the good it would have done since the water was 90ft at that point. About that time I see the preacher coming up. In one hand he is holding his shoes and with the other he is holding his hat on his head and he is still down there about 5 are 6 ft below the surface. I thought sure after we got him into the boat they would quit. Nope. We went and fished another place and I was so shook I was keeping my eye on those two and I put a plug into my own forearm that I took out. So it was a fine evening of surgury and and nearer to god experiences.

It does not end there Was a old man that was a neighbor of mine. He love to fish with topwaters but rarely went even out on the lake. So I told him we would take a short trip the next evening. He was happy to go. Well we went down the lake to a place where there is a large complex owned by a large church. Anyway part of this complex ends on a point and they have turned into a outdoor church that they use for sunrises services now and then. Well it is also a good spot to fish with top waters. As soon as we arrive the old fella got out his favored Devil Horse lure. To understand the rest of this I will have to tell you what a devil horse is like. It is a small wooden lure about twice as big as a pencil with propellers on it and 3 SMALL tremble hooks. Anyway He was going to tie it on his line and dropped it into his lap. So there he sits with these little hooks stuck in his pants in a place that could really cause a problem. So I said "do not move" and I got down on the floor of the boat with him sitting in the seat above me unhooking those small hooks. As I was getting done I looked up there and there was about 50 people standing there in the outdoor church staring at us. I held up the plug but did not see any experssions of understanding. I tell you I did not go back there for awhile.

These things happened. I am not pulling your leg a bit. Worst 2 days i ever had on the water.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Well Good Morning all of you early risers. It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here. High in the upper 60's, with little to no wind. I am going to be planting the EE's and ponytail palms I received from a friend today. I am also going to try and start a couple of the hyacinth vine's from the seeds that 9kittymom sent.

I am talking to my friend who lives across the street from the house in SC and she says that it is pouring down buckets at the moment but its starting to lighten up a little. She laughed at me for commenting that she should go shopping on Wedesday night before the big rush started. She didn't listen and then spent over a hour in line because the store was packed and the shelves were empty.

Elaine, my DH bought me one like that last year for my birthday. PITA had a field day with it. You all would have thought the balloon was for him. They are very cute and brought a smile to my face and that was his goal.

Maria, the bread looks so yummy. I think I will snatch a piece to munch on while I drink my tea. Thanks

Suzie, Brrrrr on the snow. I have to hand it to all of you that can handle that more then for a day. Yes, I do agree that it is beautiful when all the ground is covered with the first snow and everything is glistening white. But once people start touching it and it begins to melt, the grey. black slush is just to depressing for me. Plus I am already on Spring mode. I will be doing a similar thing with our trash once we move. Here the garbage is part of the sewer bill and is all but mandatory. The county approved at rate increase so it too will be going up.

Meezer, have a great time. Take lots of pictures.

Sarv, Its so hard to watch family go through something so hard. Does he have children or someone that is going to step in. It would be horrible if he was to drive like that risking himself and others on the road. I had to sabatosh Dad's truck for a few months until I could get him moved in and sell it. I gave him flat tires, syphened the gas out of the tank, pull wires and tubes. He reported vandalizism reports twice to the police. I had to call them and explain the situation. He was the stubborn kind and would have went out driving just to prove he could do it. They thanked me and even gave me a couple of easy things to do if need be in a pinch. I tried hiding the keys but I would swear the man had 50 spare keys hidden around that house.

OZ, I will check in later to read your fish story. Opps, you snuck in there. I will read before I click out.

Well off to get dress and begin the day. Hope all enjoy your day where ever it takes you....

Casey

Hi Everyone,

I haven't gotten lost. Been reading, but been busy AND I have a cold. It's for real this time. Stuffy nose, some cough, tickle in the throat.

I'm ready for lunch. Is there any of that soda bread left?

Re cleaning, when I was younger, I was SO organized. I have the chores needed to keep the place clean divided up by the weeks of the year so that everything got done (or that was the plan). Disgusting, really. What a waste of time! Now I clean when the spirit moves me or when it gets so dirty I can't stand it anymore. LOL Of course, while I was getting paid, I had a cleaning lady. No more. It's just me and DH and when he has his surgery on March 1, it will be just me for awhile.

DH bought the new computer on Thursday evening. I finished taking files off the really old one and putting them on the merely old one - the one I'm still writing on. got rid of the really old one and got the new one set up last night, but we haven't powered it up yet. Doesn't have Internet yet or most of the software I want to use. Will contact my ISP later and ask about switching to their high speed instead of dial-up. I suspect we have to get a phone technician in here to find the right phone line as we will give up the phone line we are presently using.

A local city councillor took me and my successor at the Food Cupboard out for lunch yesterday and kept asking what we needed from the city. That's a GOOD sign. Also gave me a certificate for my service to the FC and a lovely vase. Will have to grow some nice tall flowers this summer.

And last evening we had concert tickets for the National Arts Centre Orchestra which had a guest violinist (Russian) who played the Shostakovich Violin Concerto #1. It was spectacular.

Well off to have lunch and get dressed. Need to practice and pick up some clutter (that's different from cleaning).

Ann

Good one OZ!!!!!!
:^))))))))))))))))))

It started raining here a little while ago. Doesn't look like much outside work to be done. Forecast says slight chance this morning.....greater chance this afternoon. Then tonight back to freezing again.

Oh well, I think we might be able to find some inside chores to do. Still haven't removed the old condenser and heater in that a/c closet yet. I was going to but my DS put the fear in me.

Maybe someone here knows a bit more about it. The a/c company came and turned the power off the old one and disconnected the vent work to hook up to the entire unit outside on the ground. So if the power is now diverted, I figure no power to the old one. The big issue is freon leakage. Don't those copper tubing things that contain the freon have a shuttlecock thing to close the tube to contain the freon when disassembling the piping? And if it already had a leak wouldn't the freon have been all gone by now?

We want to take the old unit out to make a broom closet so we can get the trash out of the pantry. I certainly don't want to pay anyone a $100 bucks to come out here and do it for me. Any thoughts?

Yesterday Jeremy was putting in fence posts, I was raking the yard. Found one of the old black jack oaks had a rotting trunk. Told him we should take it down before it falls on someone. Well, we did that just before we finished for the day. It's a little scarey, but thrilling. He is getting good at that. He notched it with the saw and it fell right where he wanted it to.

Well, need to shop for food. Guess I should go.

oz - those were both belly laugh stories!! LOL - bet those church folks said a prayer for you!

SEND THE 2x4!!! You wouldn't believe what DH did today. Now we are still not speaking...(last night problem) This morning he goes out with his chain saw and cut down three pines that have died. Now that would be ok, except I had a beautiful Ramona clematis winding up one tree. We talked about bending the wire that I had supporting it down, then cutting the tree. Well, what does he do - he yanked out the entire wire (with clematis still attached) and gave it a heave ho. Trees are down, clematis broken off or pulled out ( I didn't even look) DS was over helping and I went out a screeching and DS left shortly! LOL He hasn't seen my temper is awhile. DH is still out there chopping up the wood....I'm thinking of something of his I can ruin (I hold a grudge remember!) oops, I forgot Valentines day is coming up - we always have blow ups before some special day - how could I forget that!!

VI- wrap up in a blanket and veg for a day or two....best thing the doc could recommend.

Molly - don't know a thing about AC - I can't believe Darius doesn't have an answer for you!! My hinny hasn't moved from the chair except to shout at DH and get up for a food refill!! Lazy day here- and cold. Since the woodstove went out and I am refusing to get it going, I have the furnace cranked on HI and I am enjoying myself!! LOL - that will get DH goat!

Time for lunch!

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

I do not understand Molly why the AC company had to come out. The Ac is a 220 right. should be able to shut it off at your circut breaker box. I do not know squat really about trailors. Molly you need a electrical testor. They run from 10 bucks on up. you need one with testing probes. You can touch wire connections if the is any voltage. you unit should have three wires a white a red and a black. White is nuteral. You touch one probe to the white and the other to the black are red. you should get a reading from eact one red and black of 110 volts are 220 volts combined at the unit. If the power is off then you will get 0 on both. If you get 0 on one and 110 on the other stay away from it. After awhile you will know a lot of things from the testor. The instructions will either teach you are cause a big headache. With a testor you can do more things, you will find that out. Including measuring problems with your car.

Hi all
My cold is back in force - I thought I was done with it but I think it was just circling around to get me from behind!! So my head is all clogged up, ears ache, and trouble breathing. So I'm not going to remember what I just read.

Just want to send prayers and good wishes for all the suffering, defoecat's MIL and everyone else who's under the weather....which up here is cold....although we're not supposed to get much from the impending storm.

My sympathies VAnn I will think of you while I'm sneezing!! Great minds think alike...

I have had such good laughs from many of the stories lately, that helps a lot!!

Casey I am proud of you in your court troubles! I admire your ability to think it through instead of just react...

I do hope everone else and our favorite furbabies are all doing well and maintaining their innocence....

Will check back if my head clears!!!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

OZ, When I bought this trailer (used) the deal was it would have working heat and air. When they brought the new system and installed it, they did disconnect the old. And it is on 220.

Darius has a tester thing so we can check for the presense (or absense) electricity. My main worry about disassembling the entire old unit, is the freon in the a/c system. If we disconnect the piping, will the freon escape if it still has any in the system?

Molly

dmc, sorry to hear that you have it too - the cold that is. I looked at your pics from the farm and I marvel at the amount of work going on. Great buy on the wall paper, but I'll reserve judgement on whether your plan for applying it will work. Sounds as though it should and you sure wouldn't want to risk tearing the paper, but there probably are experts to better advise you on that.

Just watched the women's mogel skiing from the Olympics. A Canadian took gold. Yippee! And I'm impressed that there were 4 Canadians in the top 12. So sorry for you Americans - you had a lovely skiier who didn't have a good day and should have placed much higher than she did.

Sarv, sorry to hear about the Clematis. Frustrating!

More later.

Hello, everyone. Today's a busy day here, but I took a break to see what's going on with everybody. My brother is here for the weekend and my kids decided this was a good weekend for a sleepover, so we have a house full. I needed some time away from all the noise, but of course the little ones had to follow me downstairs to see what I was doing. It's lots of fun to try to read everybody's posts with four kids under the age of 8 all in the same room making lots of noise. I read everything and only got about half of it. : )
Also have cats romping about and Percy (our pug) trying to just stay out of the way and not get stepped on by the kids. Now I'm looking forward to work on Monday to get a break!!

The weather is *horrible* here today. It's a cold cold rain. We had errands that had to be done first thing this morning. Came home and had lunch. Made a fresh pot of coffee and said I wasn't getting back out but remembered I had to go to the funeral home tonight with the DH.

Oh Maria, loved the soda bread! Just what I needed with my coffee! :) Hope you and Samson are doing good today.

Kelly I am going ot send that pic to some friends if i can that will be a good subject of conversation. I could use a set of those to hit the peg at times. It is a team thing this time up. I get to put on my new shirt with the big hillbilly on the front this time and the Laurie name on the back. wonder what people think of a man with the name Laurie printed on the back of his shirt. Maybe they remember me from the church and say "see I told you he was that way" Truth is it is the name of the city I live in. Gravois mills is only my zip code. We sort of represent them at the tournament. I am not that good by no means but this is my second year and my average is improving so when the handicap comes up I got a advantage

Hi all, life is still taking over at my house. Had errands to run this morning, came home and tackled some more paper work, made 2 dishes to take to the neighbors pot luck tonight, rested a bit, watched the UK ballgame (they lost), and now going to get ready to go to neighbors. I will speak to everyone when I get home.

Well, Molly may drown first! Those silly people are out working in the rain trying to get all the remaining fence posts and braces put in... but they are doing so due to time restraints. Her DB has to go back home tonight rather than staying over, and there's lots yet to do on the fencing.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Well darius I think she is very proud of what she has and she will do what she can to make it nice

Oz, she certainly IS doing just that, and she has my admiration for it. (I was NOT putting her down for working in the rain, BTW.)

Hi, I'm home and didn't meet a soul, and Yes, Kelly, my feet hurt! Didn't take a lot of pics but had to take one of these hanging "slip starters". Hard to see them as they all had plants in them, but they are just little containers, vases, bottles, etc, wrapped in copper wire. Looks nice, but they were awfully expensive. Hi everyone. It sure takes a while to catch up with the rest of yesterday's thread and all of todays.

Some of you have winter again and some are planting flowers. I'm somewhere in between with bright sunshine, wind and our high temp reached...... drum roll here.........33 degrees. This morning we went to have breakfast with our son at the cafe, then made a couple of quick stops and came home. I expected to be hauling a horse down to Baker City to meet some friends who were passing through on their way to Idaho, but they changed plans and I will haul the horse tomorrow, it will save them about an hour on a long trip back to the Portland area. There is somebody flying up from Calif to give my mare a try out in a couple of weeks so she isn't coming home right away if at all, but I will end up with one less horse to feed. The owner is the same person who is selling my mare, I know that probably has everybody confused but me. Basically, I brought home a horse last fall so she could take my mare to sell, now she has taken another horse to Idaho so she has an empty stall and can take her own horse home. Please pray that the prospective buyer does buy the mare.

Today I bundled up and went riding for about 1 1/2 hours. I've been home an hour and a half and my legs still feel cold. A hot shower will take care of that, but I still have to go out and feed the horses in a few minutes, then cook dinner. We bought some frozen shrimp this morning so it's gonna be a stir-fry on brown rice.

Awww, sorry to hear that a couple of you have colds. It's a good excuse to vege out and watch the Olympics. So far I haven't watched any of it.

Sarv, sorry to hear about your poor clematis biting the dust along with the dead trees. Your DH might not understand dormant plants which also look dead. Is he eating out?

I'll be back later, it is getting dark and chores are always easier to do when there is some light to see by.
