Locked out... Been there, have the Tee Shirt. YUCK!! (Why does it always happen at inopportune times?)

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I must be out of the loop . What on earth are you talking about, darius? Locked out of where?
I went on a tour of our new library yesterday. It is essentially finished except for putting up all the bookshelves, installing computers, etc . It looks so vast, now. I oohed and aahed through the whole tour. My spousal unit couldn't go so I took the camera. Apparently I had it on the wrong setting because I got little 3 -5 second movies instead of stills. I don't even care ab out that function on the camera but at least he got to see it . I will get an outside picture to post here , today.
I have applied for a part-time job there and seem the likely candidate since I have chaired the archives for 6 years and it is merging with the library when it opens. I would be settling my baby in and getting it raised to maturity for the last of my working years. Everyone keep your fingers c rossed for me.....

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh wood - I would love a job at a library - I just cannot get enough of books!! I probably wouldn't have time to to my job if I worked in one tho! Our little library is housed in a church - it is packed to the gills. Before that it was in a storefront on Main Street - very quaint too. They had a millage up for a huge, maga one with a coffee house in it- it was voted down. The people were aghast at coffee in the library!! I do believe that if that hadn't been in , it would have passed. They'll come back in another year for another vote...

Had a couple of inches of snow last night- things look all fresh and clean and it is insulating my posies, so that is good.

DS/DIL stopped over last night - he had just gotten an 80 dollar ticket for going 5mph over. Poor kid - he is working three jobs to make ends meet... I wanted to slip him a $100 but DH said NO!! He drives a little car with a loud muffler and the policeman told him to fix that too! He was in a sour mood last night....he's my really good kid and I tend to 'feel' for him so much...

My wave petunias popped over night! Yahoo - now I wish I had ordered MORE seeds!!

Carat- laughed at your going to court - and with a DR??? Somehow I expect more of them. Wonder what kind of bedside manner he has LOL Glad they found him guilty - the skunk...

mg- that was interesting about the moon - I didn't know that!! Gonna remember that and toss it out in conversation -will my friends be impressed!!

Molly -you're gonna love that garden cart. I used mine all summer long- best thing that I own. We even use it in the winter - put a load of wood on it and drag it inside...I am worried that the weight of the wood will damage it somehow, but DH says it is rated real high for weight. It's the berries!!

HI to everyone else!! TGIF!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

So many posts, so little time!! Took me an hour to catch up! Usually I check in a few times during the day but not yesterday. No wonder WS missed the locked out of the house stories! I have that T-shirt too. What's worse, I could see the keys on the kitchen table through the window. Which was my point of entry after destroying the screen and jimmying the window... Even worse, once, during my divorce stress, I exited my car in our parking structure at work, went to my desk...only to be told by my smirking boss about an hour later that I had left it running........

Tree trimmers must have the lowest job requirements of any utility workers. They certainly don't even try to make it look decent We actually called to have an ancient willow removed from our farm property because it was interfering with the power lines. They took the whole top of it. Left all the debris. Left a twenty foot stump sticking up. We had some interesting discussionss about what to do with the stump... totem pole? purple martin home for 1000 birds? Paul Bunyon statue.....? Some old fella came along and took it for firewood for his green house.

'Lainey, lasso a fish! That's doing it the hard way! What a show off! LOL Are you now classified as an expert fisherwoman?

Susan, I still miss our waterbed and it's been five years! We always had company there too, cats loved it. That's why I ended up buying one of those under the pad bed warmers, can't stand getting into a cold bed in the winter. I used to raise bread in it too! Perfect temp, no drafts, just wrap it up real well and let it be cozy! How is Mercky? Souky had a rash like that last week but since she and Sammi have reached some kind of truce, it's going away. Just another of her neurotic reactions to the nookitty. Sheesh!

Ann, good job on the computer purchase. I have trouble with the small keyboard on a laptop but they sure are handy. DD got one from her DH for Christmas and she loves it.

Babs, I think we have all fallen in love with your Mom! She sure keeps us interested..and sounds pretty sharp for her age. Remember to tell us the talk show story! It's so nice to see you here more often, we missed you!
Maria, you have to give us all the recipe for the Palichinkkins...if they are like the rest of your kitchen wonders, we'll enjoy them.

FC, those epi pens don't have much of a shelf life, good thing you stay super alert for problems. Too bad your DD has the same problems, it's much more difficult with children.

Casey, good luck with your court case, some people are just born to be jerks. What arrogance, wouldn't you hate to have him for a doctor? I'd like to be there to see his face too. How did you get in the middle of that...people with a short fuse are dangerous to bystanders.

Molly, that a great cart. I love mine, but it doesn't have a little tool basket. I swipe the one off the metal rack in the garage that we put shovels, rakes etc. in and hang it off the side. Cleans up good too. MG, I didn't know that about the moon either...told DH and he was surprised too. A little tidbit of useful information, wish I'd known that when we started our 'scaping.

Dcat, I'm so sorry your MIL is having such a difficult recovery. Our thoughts are with you. Her age is definitely working against her, but she could still make a good recovery if they can find out why the fluid retention is so persistant. I'm not so sure the rest of you can survive it though. What an ordeal. Your DH is a champ to be there so much.

Nancy, a blank slate is wonderful, but it does take a while to get things established. We're only five growing seasons into ours and are still moving things around, and enlarging beds and changing our minds about what goes where. You will enjoy it, and it is a constant challenge.

WS, if they don't give you that job, they are out of their minds! Who else would have your background to bring to it! Keep us up to date, or use us for references !!!

Suzy, Glad you brought Nancy to us, I know she will like it here. Don't we all?

Finally, for those of you who think Sammi is innocent, let me give you a brief rundown of yesterday.
1. Got up on the counter and ate some of Mini's adult cat food. Twice.
2. Beat Mini up several times until he got spritzed.
3. Climbed up over mom's desk and knocked stuff on the floor.
4. Chased Souky until she gave him several good smacks.
5. Bit holes in a brand new paperback mom was reading.
6. Pulled several fronds off a fake fern.
7. Sat on top of the dehumidifier blocking the fan
8. Dragged the afghan off the couch.

Other than that, he was good all day. LOL

I'd preview this to see if anyone posted in the last half hour but I'm afraid to....too many POOOOFS lately! Have a great day, I'm heading to the pie place for lunch so I'll check in...might go see Nanny McPhee with my DD....

Yep Sarv, My garden cart is rated for 1100 pounds. That's a lot. I'm afraid to carry that much weight in my van. (says the constant worry wart)

Well, it's cold again here this morning. Gainesville is showing 31, so I know it's REALLY cold here. Funny tho, dogs had me take them out at 6am, there was no frost on the porch railing. At 8 there was!!!! I'll tell you what, I am not going outside to work until it warms up a little. They say the high will get to 68. What a temperature spread!

Yeah it was cold last night! Our low was 21.7º. Warming up fast, though.

Betty, I was referring to someone posting yesterday about accidentally locking herself out of the house in a bathrobe and slippers in the cold weather.

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

Sarv-48 - I guess none of the people that go to the library have gone to Barnes anD Noble , they would be in for a treat , yes they have coffee, Starbuck at that. The library in Cambridge wich is a small town on the eastern shore also has coffee .the book store also serve coffee and pastries. I think that a coffee house would be a great place where people could read their writting , or their poetry and maybe singing. this could make for some very pleasant family evenings. But there again I forgot that the library was inside a church that's enought by itself, people dont like changes or new ideas..

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Been up for awhile. Have straightened the house, have one load of laundry in the dryer, and another in the washer. This is paper work day. I got to get on it too. I won't comment now, but will be back later, when I need a break, and catch up.

Have a good day.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

m5~right off the bat, you put that picture in front of a jury and NO ONE is going to vote for a guilty verdict....I don't think you're going to win your case no matter what you say!! LOL.

Defoecat~ I DO feel sorry for you today!! I would hate to be stuck with all those taxes, DH does ours, and if i were on my own i'd stay below the poverty line like I used to as a student, just to make it easier!!! I am sorry DMiL is having such a hard time,I would also hate to have those awful breathing problems, it is horrible when you feel like you can't breathe, And she's been through so much suffering, i can imagine it would be discouraging. I will keep her and your family in my prayers.

Woodspirit~good to see you again! Good luck with the library job! That would be a satisfying way to finish up your career, and a pleasant job!

Molly~ I love the gardencart, after reading your description of all the loading up to head out i felt like you should have put on top on it like a covered wagon to head west, young man! LOL I know what you mean, I like to load up to and head out to save trips back and forth, and how nice to roll the whole shebang into the tool shed at the end of the day and be done.

sarv~I would love a library with coffee, and I think it would help their finances....remember when you had to study all night, too? I've never heard of it around here but i think it would be a GREAT idea. Funny it got turned down. We have a quaint library, but I like it better than the great big industrial things with low ceilings and fluorescent lights. I always feel claustrophobic in those. Give me a library with big windows, natural light, and high ceilings (I know you can"t afford heat it)

mg~Hardly ever see you any more!! That's a great piece of info about the moon. left the farm last night, and the moon was bright behind a big old snow cloud....if the sun's behind that big old snow cloud in August, I'm going to be MAD! And the way things are, it might just be!!

CARAT~Okay another snort-of-the-coffee-out the nose on yesterdays post, locking yourself out of your car AND house....isn't it always when you have a great idea that things go most wrong? Yup,I know I'm dangerous if I think!! Your assault story is unbelievable, I think that guy needs some serious counseling....what if he were hacked at a patient? He's dangerous...I'm against most of the lawsuits in this country but I would probably sue HIM for money after all the nastiness and arrogance. Please keep us posted on how it turns out.

Maria~I think you need your own cooking show! Everything you post sounds like a work of culinary art!

darius~I wish you were around here to see all the cool beams etc. we're salvaging from the collapsed barn. I was thinking several times, you'd know what to do with them..

Hi to everyone else for now. It was down to 2 degrees last night, but the sun is pouring in this morning to warm it up a bit. Still have a lot to do, will check back in

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

GM! luvvies!!!

Top o' the mornin' to ya's! It's going to be a fabulous day today. The channel 13 weather lady says it will top out at 58-59* this afternoon. Woohoo!!! I'm in heaven, me thinks!

I want to thank you all for your kind words towards my Mum. You each have a good idea of what a fun little woman she is. She kind of grew a personality after she turned 80 and it's only gotten better and better in the last few years. She was a typical little Scotswoman all her life. She was compliant, took care of business and went about her life not sticking her nose in where it didn't belong. But she says now, enough is enough and now that she's ancient, she can get away with things she couldn't when she was younger and all will be forgiven in the name of "senility." She's even gotten in a little pinch of my hubby's bum once and said she was grateful for her age, it allowed her to get a tweak of a fine Navy seat.

I don't mean to slight any one poss, but I've only have a few minutes before I must leave for town. I'm having a hitch put on my hubby's pickup truck so we can go to Everett tomorrow and buy a utility trailer. We traded vehicles for today so I could have this job done.

MollyMc, that garden cart looks wonderful. I saw one at Home Depot last year and thought about it, but was concerned I would be making a bad decision in purchasing such a thing. Now that you've raved about it, I might put the idea in DH's head that I'd like one for a Valentine's gift. Hmmm, what do you think?

Defoecat, I'm so sorry for your DMIL's cardiac troubles. I'm sure she is having some anxiety issues with the breathing problems. It's not unusual that a person has some anxiety with cardiao/pulmonary problems. I suppose I would too if I felt like I was drowning and trying to breathe through a constricted airway only as big as a straw. Pulmonary effusions are horrible and the poor person who suffers from them suffers alone. You might ask the doctor if she could have a touch of something like Lorazepam added to her medication profile, it might help a bit to take the edge off. The nice thing about Lorazepam, it doesn't depress the respiratory drive.

M5, thank you for posting that wonderful picture of your precious kitties. They look so content together and I'm impressed with the Yin and Yang, Feng Shue kind of thing going there. Opposites, one light, one dark, one sedate, one hyper. It's all good!

Well, I've got to scoot. I have to get into town. I'm going to Mum's afterwards to take her to have her hair done. I'll whisk her around the grocery store afterwards and pick up what she needs for home. I use a wheelchair with a basket on the front when I take her to Safeway. They are very good there with the seniors and have things set up to help them. We have a senior van that will take these folks to the grocery store, then Safeway has a few people who are designated to help the seniors shop. They walk along with them, pull items off the shelf and place them in the cart for them. Mum can't do that anymore, she can't walk that far without being knackered out. Her little heart won't take the stress, so I just put her in the wheelchair and whirl her around the store. Oh, and not to worry, I don't make Mum climb into the pickup truck. I use her car to take her to town, it's low and she can just back her little fanny up to the seat with her walker and I pick her legs up and put them in the car for her. She says it keeps her in practice, backing the bus up to the barn. LOL

TTFN.....with care, ~Babs~

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's chilly here this morning, 16 degrees, but the sun is out and the wind is not blowing. Maybe I will get to go riding today. Yesterday I didn't go for a couple of reasons, first, I had some things for a friend to pick up, she said her BF would be here to get them in the morning. Well, he didn't get here until about 3pm, and by then the wind was howling and it was just too late and too cold to go.

Babs, your mother has such a delightful sense of humor about the everyday, er...., basic things in life. Do you ever go to those Scottish festivals? They have a big one near Tacoma every year, at Enumclaw I think. They have Celtic games, dancing contests, piping, food, and all. She would enjoy it if she can handle a long and busy day.

Carat, sock it to him! What a jerk!

Dcat, I feel so bad for your poor MIL and also your husband. At this point maybe they are wondering if she shouldn't have had the operation at all. I hope she can be at least comfortable and not have to have her lungs drained any more.

Meezer, your kitty is definitely bad! Worse than mine who has already tipped over a big arrangement of dried weeds and scattered seeds all over the floor. And that wasn't the first time, just the first time today. It's good that this arrangement sits on the floor so nothing gets broken. Right now she is very quiet, I'd better go look. LOL at you leaving the car running in the parking garage!

Our library did a renovation/addition a couple of years ago. They added more book space, some small meeting/study rooms, and a large area with comfy chairs and floor to ceeling windows that look out on a walking path by the Powder River and the city park beyond. It has the low ceelings and florescent lights but that reading room is so open feeling with all that good natural light. Our original library was a gift from the Carnege (sp?) Foundation, and cannot be used for any other purpose nor added to, so when it was outgrown the library had to build a new building. Other buildings around the original one were not available and so the old building sits empty. Not good planning.

Woodspirit, I hope you get the job.

I've only locked myself out of the house one time, now I keep a key hidden outside and have never had to use it. We seldom lock anything here. I also carried a spare key for the pickup for years, never used that one either.

Molly, what a nice cart. Conveniences like that are actually necessities!

Dmc, have you posted any new pictures of the old place? I don't remember where you had them but I looked at a lot of them. Probably I didn't mark the thread to watch. I'm glad you are able to salvage materials from the collapsed barn, and maybe you can find uses for them. Some folks we know were looking at an old farm and the owner said he would burn down that old barn that was sagging, had holes in the roof, etc. The buyer said "if you do that I won't buy the place". They restored the barn and it is a dandy with about 6 stalls and a tack room. They had to jack up the whole thing, put new cement pillars under it, new support beams for the floors, repair the insides and reroof it. They can store 30 tons of hay in the loft.

Time to get the horses fed, they are looking mournfully at the house, poor starving babies!

Hi All,
Just popped into say hello,,,,wow,,,I'm gonna have to do some reading and come back to post,,,LOL

Kelly

Afternoon everyone
Well, looks like I've got plenty catching up to do, also. I forgot to mark this as watched. Should have *known* something was up, though. Y'all are too gabby for there not to be any activity over on coffee. LOL Anyway, I've been doing the usual Friday stuff ... batteling the laundry monster and getting things cleaned up so we can wreck it again over the week-end. I did skim over everything, but will just say hi for now and hope everyone is feeling good and having a great day.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

MaryE~I'm going to post a few more farm pics later. It's in the farm forum. The barn they're picking apart was completely collapsed into a dangerous pile of huge pickup-sticks with lots of nails, rotten wood, sharp metal roofing, etc. I didn't know how I was going to get it cleared since it was dangerous to walk onto and impossible to pull the pile apart. They have teased sections apart with a backhoe, recycled the metal roofing, stackedthe hand hewn beams, stacked all the old barnboards and planks that weren't rotted, and piled all the wonderful old rocks from the rubble foundation separately.

The hay barn is still standing, but one corner post and beam is rotted/broken and separating. It will need bracing and rebuilding. If we can get that shored up we can look at squaring the whole thing with a comealong and rebuilding the foundation. No one thinks it's economically wise, of course, but if it can be done I'll have it done out of respect for the workmanship of all those hand hewn beams. Right now that barn is about 95% okay but it's dangerous and could actually collapse until fixed.

I may go ride. It's 22 here and sunny.

Four weeks today. Can you believe that. Four weeks ago I had the nasty surgery. I am still alive and kicking though not moving the arm much. LOL

Mercky's appt is at 2:30 so I will let you know what happens with that.

While I was still pretty much out of it, the SPCA which I am treasurer for got a certified letter from the Workmen's comp insurance that it was going to be cancelled for non payment on the 6th of February.

This is a CERTFIED letter folks, has to be signed for. And was on the 26th of January. Did anyone tell me or Anita the exec director so she could take care of it. NOOOOOOO I got it in my folder WEDNESDAY and it was already cancelled by then. So now we have to have a full audit by them before they say we can even reapply for coverage. I am so mad!!! We have all these employees out there and no workman's comp. They were able to put in for a rush audit and faxed the forms so I will pick those up today when I am out with Mercky.

OK, rant over.

Next couple of problems. First, Scout my daughter's old kitty, they think she has cancer. She is losing weight at a very rapid pace and is eating a lot. She just had blood work done three weeks ago when she had her teeth taken care of and everything was fine then. The vet said he didn't think they would do the blood work again since hedidn't think it would have changed that much in three weeks.
He did keep her for the day and is going to do scans and things to see if he can determine what is going on. This is heartbreaking for her and me too. I love the sweet Scout. We think she is Indy and Muffin's aunt.

Second, DD has to have surgery on March 15 to remove a large goiter and most of her thyroid. She will be in the hospital 2 or 3 days and here I am stuck in Oklahoma and can't go up. It is very very frustrating for me. I am thinking about it though, that will be 8 weeks and surely to goodness I can drive by then. So I COULD fly and rent a car in Indianapolis and get up there. I will have to wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I know she will be fine without her mama but I want to be with her and her husband and DGD.

I better go get lunch and wash my hair before I go in. Got it cut yesterday, hooray, I can see again! LOL

Carat if I understand you correctly this man acted up in court. I do not understand why he has not been jailed for contempt. This man has a serious mental disorder and I do not think anger management course is going to hack it. People that are sent to anger management do not do that act it out to such extreme especially in court. I would have thought after a outburst like you discribe the Judge would have ordered a physic examination. does not make sense to me.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

i agree with oz about the crackpot being in contempt!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone- gosh, I have done absolutely nothing today other than read and munch and read and munch and look at my seedlings!! I did go out to the library for 5 new books and to just sit and enjoy myself. Then I went to a scrapbooking store as they were going out of business. It is in a little strip mall and I swear every store that has been there has gone kaput! I felt sorry for the owner, so I bought several things. Could have gotten them cheaper in town, but then I'd use gas- so it evens out.

Sass - are you new in here?? Welcome if you are and pardon me if you aren't!! LOL Jump in anyhow!!

9 Kit - who is responsible for the slip up?? Whoever it is needs a com-upping!! No reason for things like that...OH, I'd want to be with my DD too (if I had one ~) Hope things turn out well for her Sorry to hear about the sick kitty - is it old?

Defoe- thinking about your MIL- gosh she's had a long road with all her health troubles- poor dear. I was talking to my brother about my cousin who had his 2nd stroke. Brother said it was too bad someone was there to take him to the hospital - he wouldn't have made it if he had been alone. I kinda agree with him now.

DH just made a plate of chips n cheese - he needs help eating them! LOL

Starkville, MS

Good day to all! I've been reading but didn't have much input, so just lurked for awhile. There is so much going on with all of you, I can't keep up with all of the things I wanted to say to each of you, so I'l just say - prayers for all, for the good and the bad.

I have continued my "January clean up" into February and I'm very pleased with all I have gotten done. My craft studio is neater than it has ever been, I have made two new tablecloth & napkin sets with several more progressing.

But my house is a *mess*!!! The laundry monster thinks he is winning, but his time will be up tomorrow! The weather has been the usual up and down, and now the rain is moving in again, so indoor things are on the "to do" list for tomorrow, starting with laundry.

Next on the list is to tend to the greenhouse. I have two orchids in bloom with three more in bud, and everything out there needs water at the very least! And the litter box (also in the greenhouse) needs cleaning. Mostly the cats go outside for that business (they have two pet doors), but with all the rainy days we've had, the box has had more use than usual.

Right now, I'm enjoying a quiet break watching the birds. I keep trying to get a pic of all the birds feeding, but so far I have only been able to capture a few at a time. It isn't at all unusual to count at least a dozen Cardinals at a time plus quite a few other kinds. We refer to that area as the "red light district" because of the number of Cardinals we support! Right now, there are Doves, Sparrows, Goldfinch, Titmouses (Titmice?) and Juncos fighting it out with the Cardinals. I have learned when that many are feeding that avidly it means bad weather is on the way. (Snow is predicted for North MS, but we shouldn't get any here, just cold rain)

Good news for a couple of things.

On Scout kitty, it's NOT cancer. They are now thinking hyperthyroidism which we know can be treated. She already has an old kitty Solomon with that and is used to treating that. I also have an old kitty Strypurr who has to have a pill everyday for that. She is also doing well. So hooray for Scout!!

Took Mercky in and it is just dermatitis so she got a shot for that. Her ears were clean so he doesn't think she has the yeast thing going on again and her gums were less inflamed than the other day and he didn't think it was worrisome. Her molars were OK, it is just around the canines a little bit.

I am trying to plan to go to Indiana on the 14th. So I have to work hard at my therapy and make it happen. LOL She will be fine if I don't make it, but you know I want to be there.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello everyone. It's too windy to ride today and so I am cleaning house instead, not too enthusiastically I might add. As I was cleaning I was thinking of how women used to do a certain job on a certain day every week, back in the days when women didn't often work away from home. I had a neighbor who did that, Monday was washday, Tuesday was ironing, etc. She lived on a dariy farm and had 9 children who all helped in one way or another when they were old enough. The boys fed calves, collected eggs, went out to get the cows from the field at milking time, helped with the milking and other farm work, etc, and the girls helped in the house and garden. The Mrs made her own bread 2x a week, it took a lot of loaves for all of them, and she had 2 sets of clothes lines out in the yard. She also hung laundry under a long porch roof in rainy weather. When she had the last baby I asked her if she wasn't glad for a break (3 days in the hospital) but she said no, because now she was 3 days behind with all the housework. The oldest daughter was in my grade but never could take part in after school things because she had to get home to help her mother. The closest I ever got to the every job on a certain day system was a set of embroidered dish towels that I got for my wedding shower.

Sarv, is your stroke cousin in really bad shape now? Your comment about it being too bad somebody found him made me think that he may not recover. Where is he now, and what is the plan from now on?

Kittymom, did somebody sign for the letter? I can't emagine anybody signing for a letter and then just ignoring it knowing you would not be back for many days? Or was it the postal employee who didn't get a signature? It sounds like somebody didn't do their job or use common sense and I hope nobody needs that insurance until after the problem is solved. How's Mercky?

Tgif, your cardinals are very pretty. We don't have them out here. I have gold finches eating from a thistle seed feeder, and house finches and sparrows eating from a feeder with ordinary bird seed. Maybe next year I will try another feeder with suet to see what else comes to eat. Occasionally we get a small hawk who gets a tweety bird for his dinner, but I think more of them survive because I feed them.

This morning my kitty knocked a plant off the windowsill and the pot broke. Bad kitty! (somehow those two words don't go well together). We have 4 windows across the end of the dining room that look out at the bird feeders. I keep one windowsill cleared so the kitty can watch the birds, but she was in warp speed and got into the next window, probably ricochetted off it because she was running from one end of the house to the other over and over again. Not too long after that she went to sleep purring in my lap.

Back to the vacuum cleaner, and I see a window that needs attention, the one over the sink gets splatters on it that I don't notice until the sun is just right. But first, I need some of that bread pudding.

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone wants to take over posting the daily for awhile? I am trying to get my sleep patterns evened out and sometimes just don't want to stay up until it's time to start the new daily. I can start it earlier,,,but it seems to get lost in the postings if I do that.

Thanks,
Kelly

Kelly, maybe IO1 would take on the responsibility since she seems to stay up late. I'd do it but I'd have to start the next day's thread before 8pm. LOL.

Mary those hawks know all about those bird feeders. We got eagles here and they will take fish and ducks first. I have seen them bring down a sea gull in flight. Ducks know how to frustate a eagle they bunch real tight as soon as he is spied and just before he strike they burst with a lot of commotion. I think they do that to throw his aim off. I heard just wednesday though of a big northern Bald eagle that has taken a couple of cats about 10 miles from here. So I worry about our own.

We never had a cat in our life till a few months ago. I understand how bad and kitty does not seem to connect. I have a little dog that minds perfectly. She is well aware who is in charge. The cat does not care who thinks they are in charge. But for some reason I do not think it is intended. I think it is something in their mental makeup that prevents them from understanding authority. She is a very very loving cat. Has to be with the family and the dog. If it was defiance in them they would not be so loving.

No, cats just think you're their servant, and they do appreciate it at their convenience!! For all that they do get to be pretty loyal. If I talk in a loud voice or get excited they jump up in my lap, even the two who are not lap cats - and touch my nose and try to help.

Kelly, I can try to do the daily if you want me to. I will have to have someone else take over if I get to go to Indiana later, but that is four weeks away.

Keep in mind it will usually be between 11 and 11:30 my time before I put it up.

Hi people,

9kitty, so glad to hear that the diagnosis for Scout was not so dire after all! I hope you're able to speed your own recovery so that you'll be able to make the trip to Indiana. Best wishes for your daughter's full recovery too.

dmcd, good for you for trying to save that barn. It would be a real shame to lose it if 95% is still good. I have a real weakness for "antique" buildings myself-----generally prefer them to the newly built ones (with the notable exception of the house that I live in, which seems to have been built completely at random. Even trying to hang a shelf or a picture is a major undertaking here, as even the mechanical stud finder can't find the studs.)

We're bracing for a "nor'easter" here, over a foot of snow predicted. We just put my poor little greenhouse back together and now I'm afraid that it will get blown apart again as DH has yet to secure the door despite sarv's excellent directions on how to do that. Maybe he'll manage to do it before we head to work tomorrow (fingers and toes crossed here --- just hoping!)

d'cat, hope your MIL is doing better. I can empathize. Nothing like difficulty breathing to spark all kinds of anxiety.

101, how are those tomato plants doing? I keep telling myself that I've got to get a few things planted just so that I can tell whether or not all the seeds I've saved can still germinate or if I have to buy some this year. I

tgif, wow, we consider ourselves lucky to have one pair of cardinals around at a time! I won't tell my mother about all of yours as she keeps moaning about never seeing the pair that DO frequent our feeders. I've been making peanut butter "suet" for the feathered set here, but lately the Starling Tribe has been out-doing even the squirrels (otherwise known as "the grey furry birds") in demolishing a big chunk of it in no time flat Time to mix up another big panful!

Oz, any way you can convince your cat to become an indoor kitty? A customer of mine told me about an aquaintance of his who lived near the Rockies who started out with about a dozen cats and ended up with only one ---- the one that never went out. This person couldn't figure out why his cats were disappearing until he was in his yard one day and saw an eagle swoop down and carry off one of his cats. We don't let ours out after dark for fear of coyotes, but at least we don't have raptors
here big enough to be a danger to grown cats.

Waving to all I didn't respond to directly. I'm to tired to keep on at the moment, I'm afraid. Goodnight and sweet dreams to all.

Mc Cool the eagles will be gone anytime now. they only winter here. but when they do there are a bunch of them. she was alley cat the first two years of her life. she was never in a house till she came in this one. She will not use a littler box she prefers to go outside and also sleep outside at night. But this does seem to be changing. She is a tabby and loves to be with the family and the dog. Time will tell about in the house all the time. But the lady of the house seems to get pretty upset when I cannot find where she is outside. she is a smallish cat and she can get into more messes out there. I have a two stall dock with a boat on a lift. She had to go down there anytime I did. she would crawl under the floor onto the floatation. And how I still do not know. she would wonder all over the top of the boat lift. We came home the other day and she came up to greet us and looked like a cartoon she was so wet and hair sticking out in gobs all over. I figured right away she missed her step going from the underside of the dock to the lift and went in the drink. I went down there and the wet trail of how she got out was still there. She has not been down there since. The water where she went in is 20ft. deep.
