Oh oh oh is it Suzie's birthday? So sorry I almost missed it! Mon y'all let's sing to her. LOL
Happy birthday to you, Suzie!

Meezers, fixed spaghetti sauce for supper, but like it better the next day. Went to WM and got a rotiserary chick and made your enchilados for supper. Yum! Thanks for the recipe. So much easier than mine. LOL

Well, guess everyone will be at chat tonight. Will check back after while.

Hey all, sorry I haven't been on for awhile. I had an allergic reaction to something and had to take benadryl, so I've spent alot of time in bed. It was kind of nice but I was really itchy so didn't sleep as well as benadryl normally makes me sleep. I read all the posts, but will try to post some more of my own later.

Hi there,

Am going to try to catch up. Have broken the Internet connection and have two windows open.

We are just in from a "Culinary Experience" at the National Arts Centre here in Ottawa. It's a major fundraiser and they give about 200 tickets to the Ottawa Symphony to sell - not cheap - $60 a pop (Cdn) but it's pure profit for the two organizations. In addition, the OSO has a raffle for which we did NOT buy tickets this year.

A whole host of restaurants and wine companies have booths set up and give out samples of their food and drink. Once you are in the door, you can have all you want, but you have to line up for it. There are strategies - couples will sometimes split up and go into two lines and get two of each, then get together to eat it. Some people brought sturdy plates of their own with the little plastic clips that hold wine glasses to the plates. (I have some of those, but never thought of taking them along). The newbies go with slinky cocktail dresses and spike heels. The veterans, dress casual with sturdy shoes. LOL We had a good time and got as much as we needed to eat and then some.

don't they have any of those cheap eyeglass places near you, you know two pair for $90 on special?

I missed just what happened to dmc's glasses, but if hers are anything like mine, they would be covered under the fine print in an offer like that. I'm in the category of correction which is looking at $600 or more to replace my glasses. Kills me that the medical insurance will cover up to a certain amount (maybe $200 - I'm not sure) every second year. It doesn't even come close to what mine cost and my present glasses are 6 years old. I don't change them like a fashion accessory. Anyway, I hope the dmc is not in the same cost area that I'm in and that the glasses are repairable for a resonable price.

In regard to my replacement at the FC, I just want to prevent him from making a real mess that would be difficult or impossible to sort out. It's for the sake of the FC, not him. And I AM planning to stay on as a volunteer. If, in the short term, some of my volunteering is in terms of helping out with admin, that's OK. It's really what I know best about the place. But it will be on MY terms, not his.

I've also been blessed with a hairdresser who stays put. Well, he changed salons - sold one and started a new one, but he's been cutting my hair since 1977. I have course, thick hair with a mind of its own. Really needs someone who understands it to get a good cut.

Happy birthday to Suzie!

Darius, do you REALLY have to show those of us who are braving subzero temps those Hostas coming up? Not fair. We DID have it mild last week, but no more.

Joyous, hope your trip into Rochester last week went well. Sorry we couldn't connect.

I'll sign off now. Probably won't get back on the computer this evening unless it is to respond to someone who posted while I was writing this.

have a good night everyone.

Darius, zone envy doesn't even come near to what I am feeling!! But, just remember us in July when you are wilting in that hot sun...!

Uhhh never mind, by July you'll probably have migrated to somewhere cooler than Molly's. Too bad about the neighbor, some people just don't have much civility. Good thing she's not there all the time. (((Molly)))

I know I was paying $400 for glasses before I got the implants (I was only 50 and had a rare form of refractory cataracts) and so my vision does not change as I age. Now I pick up a couple pair every year but my insurance won't cover it unless I go to an opthalmologist which adds up a doctor bill, two visits, plus glasses through any place where I can get them BUT if they are a twofer deal , the insurance won't cover it! What kind of logic is that? It's more economical for me to just pay for them myself.

Time for dessert, anyone for a piece of cherry chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream?

Nite Gracie....

I've been asked to update on the lady I took care of in the ER who crushed her hand in a car door when the wind caught the door and slammed it on her. She had her hand on the door jamb of the car as she was easing herself into the seat and a gust of wind came along and slammed the door on her hand. She sustained lacerations on three of the fingers (index, middle and third finger) and broke bones behind the knuckles. I sent her off to the OR and checked back up on her the next day when I went back to work. She's doing reasonably well considering her pre-existing condition of arthritis.

She had several pins placed, and one small plate. She has a cast on for a few days while her sutures from the lacerations heal, then will be put into a contraption that will suspend her fingers in heavy rubber bands. She will be able to exercise her fingers with physical therapy and will be allowed greater range of motion as the healing continues. This unfortunate lady has terrible rheumatoid arthritis and all of us were very surprised her injuries weren't even worse. Thank goodness for x rays. We have one orthopod who is particular specializes in hand surgery and he was the one on call Friday night. Whew!

Thanks to those of you who asked after this wonderful lady and thank you for your positive thoughts and energy. I'm sure they all helped in getting this lady back on her feet and hopefully one day the use of her hand.

Ok, all, I have spent a lot of time reading the updates here.
You guys sure are chatty the past couple days.
I am TOTALLY exhausted mentally.
The past couple days have been unreal.
Thanks Dcat, I01, Jas, Sarv, M5, Maria, and all to ask about my son. Do appreciate it thoroughly.
Now the news.
Took the son to the Doc. of Physical Therapy yesterday. He took an x-ray which I knew would be worthless but....
Anyways, keep in mind this guy and his office isn't on the list for the health insurance so will be paying about 60-70% of the bill.....
He did lots of test on him. Determined that he may have damaged the base of the spine at the base but wanted a MRI to make sure.
Told him that he is done with wrestling..... So my son sat in the office crying with me doing that later in the day.... Was a very sad day....
Got the MRI today. The doc. says it wasn't as bad as he thought but there is a bone spur on one vertabrate which is pressing onto the spinal cord when in certain positions during like the wrestling matches. It seems that the base of the spinal cord and skull is ok tho the ligaments may be stretched out more than normal but didn't know if it was because him be so flexible as a wrestler.
So I asked my son what he wanted to do and then the doc. says it doesn't matter what he chosed to do.
That HE as a DOC will not sign off for him to wrestle on Friday ANYWAYS!
I hadn't realized that at all.
So officially he is done forever!!!
But I will tell you guys and I told his coach later tonight this,
that I had a dream last nite about him wrestling and everything was ok. So I told my son and the coaches about this and I told them that they think I may be crazy but....
I would like for him to go out there on Friday, to try to wrestle (since he has an easy guy to wrestle), and if he comes up with any tingling or numbness, THAT he will stop it at once and he will be done.
So he could say at least he tried and went to Districts.
So the coach is going to talk to the doc. tonight and we will know tomorrow.
You guys may think I am crazy or a bad mother but....
So all in all, life sucks as my older son says....

Sorry for being so long winded.....
Dmc, I totally understand about glasses being broken. I hate it when my reading glasses are lost or have gotten broken. Can't stand not being able to read.
Dcat, I do hope your MIL does get better and finally can come home and get back to normal living. It isn't fun to watch them struggle to recup.
Also, Dcat, I did get my greenhouse turned around this weekend so hope it will survive the wind better. You have a good memory to remember that I probably won't be able to get a new one and you are right I bet.
Darius, I can't believe you have hostas coming up already. Am jealous. Mine haven't even shown their heads yet at all.
It has been sunny now for 3 days and it is so so so nice. It makes me feel must better tho with all that is going on right now.
So everyone take care and thanks so much for caring.
Later, Carol (DR)

Meezer, You believe a person who has had brain surgery? LOL Lunch sounds wonderful. I don't watch FB, too boring. My hairdresser has been in the same location for 12 years. Just love her. Are you using the spritz bottle on Sammi. Doesn't take them long to find out what it means.

101 I am just wondering who is cooking tomorrow? Now that my sheets are clean, and my floors vacuumed, I need someone to dust and clean the bathrooms.

Sarv, sounds like a good day shopping, since you didn't have anything else to do. Yes, Mr. B came home, laid on the couch and snoozed for about 3 hours. Played some, ate his dog food, and is snoozing again. Men!!! And yes you can use the 2x4 on cats, just don't swat as hard as for humans.

Hi Jasmeer

Hi Darius, yes I have zone envy. I did seed some perennials tonight. So we will see how they do.

Hi Molly, the pond plants and fish sound so "tropical". You wil have to make another run for fish food though, you don't want them eating your plants.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY susieq. May you have many more.

FC, Sorry about your allergies. Hope that you get them under control soon.

Hi Joyous

Vann the culinary experience sounds good. They have one in Louisville, about 50 miles from us, and is a fund raiser for the arts. Always does well./

Bal, thanks for the update on that lady. If she is still there, or you see her, give her a big hug from all the coffe and.... folks.

DS and I have been on the internet all night, trying to find a vacation spot. We had thought about visiting Foxwoods, in Conneticut, but getting there from Kentucky must be impossible. Only 2 airports, Hartford, and Providence RI, and then drive several miles to get there. We have also heard that Mystic CT is very scenic. Anybody have any input on that location. If so, I sure would appreciate knowing it. Seems like we can fly to the Bahamas far cheaper than going somewhere in the U.S. Any body have any good suggestions?

Well, I am going to bed, have a busy day tomorrow, and want to be half alive, while putting up mom's borders.

Everyone have a good peaceful, restful night.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Wow, lots of posting today.....

Well I am beyond tired. Managed to sneak into chat for a bit for the first time in a while. Good to talk to a few I have seen or heard from in a bit.

I read everything, ate dinner and now CRS. Do remember the pictures of the hostas. My wish plant. Hostas are only a dream here so I will be planning a hosta garden once I move. The ones above are awesome. Zone envy???? NO not really, or actually not yet. I still have blooms on my datura's.

Loved the picture of Sammi. Had to share PITA's picture growling at what he thinks is lunch. The fish just flock to the side he is at think they are getting fed and he thinks they are hearing him growl. Funny to watch...

Well I am doozing at the key board and making all kinds of mistakes.

Hope all have an incredible evening and awesome day tomorrow.

Goodnight!

The cake sounds good. I don't remember having cherry chocolate. Ice cream, definitely!

At the moment I have the kitten (AmandaPanda) on top of the monitor and every time she moves it shakes. Her tail is hanging down in front of the screen. A few minutes ago she was on top of the printer and carefully stretched and made it to the monitor. Now she is migrating again, behind the tower. The older house cat is lying between the monitor and the tower, watching the kitten, still purring so I guess we won't have an explosion. And now, AmandaPanda is on top of the tower. But, will she stay there? No, she hopped down and went to try to catch the pet mice that live in a 10 gallon aquarium with a heavy mesh top. They know they are prefectly safe but the kitty still thinks she can get them. Cheap entertainment!

Today's excursion to town took longer than I expected, so I didn't get home until 4:30, just had time to put the groceries away and go out to feed the horses when my hubby came home from work. It's funny, but in a small town, 9000 people, I ran into the same person 3 times, first at the local co-op grocery, then at the next 2 places I went to. My lucky number was off by just one, but that is ok, I win something often enough and needed a couple of things at that store anyhow. I went to the Salvation Army thrift store and got a bunch of nice potholders to replace my old grease stained, tomato sauce stained ones that I cannot make look clean no matter what. The new ones were 35 cents each. No, of course they don't match, but nothing else in my house does either. A stop at the laundromat and my comforter is clean again. One hardware store has free popcorn that they make right there in a movie theater type of machine, help yourself and so I did. Had lunch with my hubby at the Chinese restaurant and brought home enough leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. Checked out seeds at another store and bought a bunch and since it was Tuesday I got the senior discount. I'm hoping to save a little money by planting seeds instead of setting out the more spendy bedding plants.
.
After a lot of thought over the past few weeks/months, I got the paint for the end wall in the living room to make it look less like a hallway. I will post some before and after pictures when I get it painted. I had to get a primer too because it is a terra cotta red going over a pale yellow and they said it would show through. Also, the wall is textured and will be hard to get all the little groves and wrinkles filled with the darker color, but on second thought it might have made it more interesting. Oh well, the primer was cheaper than a second quart of the paint. I think my hubby has brushes so I didn't buy any. The wall has a large window so there really isn't that much to paint. It might get done this weekend, maybe, but don't anybody hold your breath! We have plans for Saturday that do not include painting.

Somebody was asking where I get alfalfa seed to grow sprouts, at the health food store. My growing jar is already half full and I only started them about Saturday. Today they just had long sprouts on the seeds, but tomorrow they will start getting leaves. They take 5 days from 2 Tbsp of dry seeds to a quart of ready to eat sprouts. It is the ideal thing for kids to watch, you know how kids always want to dig up the seeds the next day to see if they grew, well, they can watch the whole process through the side of the jar and then eat them in less than a week. My kids loved it and so do I. I'm a kid at heart.

My goodness, VAnn, that fundraiser sounds wonderful. $60 Canadian is how much US? You seem to be treading a fine line with forcing the new guy to learn the system and being there to untangle his mess before it gets totally out of control. If you can make him thing that just maybe you won't always be there to bail him out he might learn to do it all himself. I think recording the teaching sessions is a great idea, you can be there without having to be there.

It's getting sleepy in here. Brain and hands are not working well together. Goodnight.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi Carat, and Mary, was going to bed about an hour ago, and Yep, I am still up.

Carat, you are going to love living in a milder climate. You will be able to grow so much more. And more rain, snow?? and humidity. That is going to take some getting used to!!

Mary, sounds like your day was profitable. I started some perennial seeds tonight. After looking at catalogues, I knew that starting seeds was a lot cheaper than ordering plants. Also, I have DM's flower beds this year, so I want to have enought to plant there.

DH plowed me a new perennial flower bed just a couple of days ago. When the weather warms just a little, am going to go get some horsie poo, and spread there. Then when warm weather comes, will till it all in, and hopfully have a nice bed.

Well, to those of you who asked, DMIL will be in the hospital until about Thursday or Friday. They inserted a chest tube, and will give it time to drain off all the excess fluid in the lungs. DH is going again tomorrow to spend the day and night. She has so many children that she has not had to spend a day or night without one of them being there. Isn't that great? Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, I appreciate it.

DR, sort of a good news/bad news situation with DS. I know that he enjoys wrestling, but sure hope that he exercises good judgement and caution if he decides to wrestle this weekend.

Well, I truly am off to bed this time. Hope all sleep with the angels tonight.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, got the verdict just now.
My son is offically done with wrestling.
Coach called and said him and the doc. decided on not allowing him to wrestle.
Is so sad to see him cry so hard when he is a big, scrabbling kid.
But guess he will have a good life otherwise.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Daisy, I can imagine how sad this is for you and your son but I feel his health is more important then anything in this wide world. The possibilities of hurting himself furhter is very real and could suffer from it far more then he is now.. I wish him all good things for him and a healthy future

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Moved message to tomorrow!
