Questions, common crista and wet cannas rhizomes

Plainville, MA

Was given some common crista seeds, supposed farmers used to use them to create shade for chickens in the summer, anyone know the botanical name? also found some cannas in the closet that are sprouting but appear to be getting a little white mildew on them, soft in places, best way to save them? It is a beautiful morning her, middle 50s, sunshine!! What a treat after this winter! (north florida)

Sari, thanks for the links, i had looked at some of these but was not sure if the crista seeds i have are the same palnt or not. Do you think they are? i didn't see the plant in bloom, had seed pods on it that seemed to kind of hang and were pretty. this guy treats them as annuals, don't know if they are here or he just pulls them up. thanks again.

Hi,
Why do you have Cannas in the closet? LOL..In your zone they can stay in the ground all year.. Good luck..

Libby,
I have no idea. I am in zone 5. All I did was use a search engine to find some links for you to try.

Hi, Larkie, we traded clero vine for bungei last spring (Arlene here). I am going to see if Dave can change my name. The cannas were a fall trade, came as rhizomes and i was tired of planting!!!! besides which i have to make another bed!!! they all did fine except this one, my fault, was in a zip lock!!!
