Have a Great day everyone.

Coffee and...For Wed., Feb. 1, 2006
Okay, everybody off to bed, and I am still sitting here. Just finished reading some posts by Mary over in the forum she provided the link for. Some pretty good reads. Mary, I have greater respect for you after reading some of your posts. Will finish when I can keep my eyes open.
Well, off to bed, as I am blinking slowly, so that tells me it is time.
Sleep with the Angels.
Morning everyone- slept good, but my shoulder is giving me fits (must be sympathy pains for 9kit) If it's not one body part aching, it's another. I won't even tell ya what I'm having for breakfast - a repeat of yesterday.
Not much on the platter today to do - no workout - it's Wed!. I do want one of those pens to get rid of red eye in pics - maybe I'll take a trip into Michaels - I have their 40%off coupon and it is burning a hole in my pocket!
I'd like to return bottles/cans to the store today, but when I snooped in the barn I found three (yes that's 3) barrels of beer bottles...hmmmm me thinks that isn't good!! They are just too heavy for me to lug to the store to return.
Hey Darius - glad you and sis got along - no need for the 2x4!! Hey, I still need my question answered about teflon and the calaphaon pans. Are they the same?? I would like one fry pan that doesn't stick. Let me know- I won't buy a thing until I hear from you (the master...lol) I have three fry pans that are being dumped and one sauce pan. I think really need to get a whole new set!! I'm still using the ones I got when I got married 37 yrs ago.
Our local school superintendent was caught pilforing funds- he was arrested yesterday - it wasn't a huge sum = around $2000, but the way he did it was so stupid - he double submitted receipts and added numbers to others. Sad when a man who gets a $170,000 pay check has to stoop so low.
Bal that stove cleaning sounds rotten - is it time for a new stove perhaps?? Sell the old one 'as is' I learned a lesson. We have a new gas stove and I let something with tomatoes spill over in the oven. I thought- Oh, I will turn on the 'self clean' thing - well I forgot it for several months (during the summer when we never use it) Long story short - I now have rust in the bottom of my new stove....I could have spit bullets for being so dumb.
Carat - kudos for working with troubled kids. I worked with the reg ed kids and loved it but could never figure out how to connect with ones that were labeled "emotionally impaired" - seems like if something worked once, it didn't work again. Seems like most came from families that were disfunctional too. Sorry situation...glad we have people like you to lend a hand.
Stomach is a rumbling, so better go take care of it!!
9KM, no need to be embarassed, we've all done it....and I know I have been set straight after mailing one of those, that's how I found snopes2.com. There's a funny email going around about how this person is thanking everyone for letting them know they shouldn't drink coke, take change out of pay phones, sit on a threatre seat without checking for needles, little lost children that are never found, use Proctor and Gamble products, it goes on and on and mentions all those scary stories that have no basis in truth. One of those things you wish you had saved and didn't.
FC, as far as Ebay goes, most sellers are reliable, but you can always check their feedback and read notes from other buyers, and see how long they have been selling, and if there is negative feedback, think twice about the purchase. Read the auction carefully. Some will refund, most do not. I just bought something and got the wrong item, emailed the seller and he is paying postage for the return and sending the right thing. Some sellers do a very high volume so you might have to check back a ways if you see they've gotten bad feedback. Ebay shows a count of the good/bad feedback up to a year, I think.
My waterbed sheets wouldn't fit over the corners of our king mattress, so I had to get all new sheets. Also, the sides didn't cover very well. I tried remodeling them...LOL..don't even bother!! It resulted in lots of bad language and a big donation. Watch the shipping charges, sheets are heavy and shipping might eat up the savings. The ones on Ebay look like a pretty good buybut I didn't check the shipping.
Suzie, I have one set of the Martha Stewart Kmart sheets, 300 count, and I love them. They aren't sateen though, I don't like sateen, they get too wrinkly after the first night. Maybe it's just because DH sleeps llike he's wrestling an octopus, his side of the bed looks mangled in the morning.
Darius, maybe DS is getting smart enough not to argue when she knows she can be dumped on the roadside? LOL Good that you had a nice visit this time...just don't get fooled again. Those doxies were sure cute. Someone in the subdivision next to us has a pair, and I see them when he walks them, they are just adorable.
Carat, take a worklight with a real long cord with you! If all you have there is ceiling fixtures it won't help you see into closets, dark corners, etc and it will be handy when you get back there again later. And a stack of paper cups for drinking water!
Dcat, I use a single edge razor to clean my enamel drip pans...then I put them in the dishwasher. I use it on the inside of the glass door of the oven too, the automatic cleaning process doesn't seem to get them very clean, so I clean them beforehand. DD has a ceramic top range, I like gas much better.
Sarv, I used one of those redeye pens on photos just once. and it ruined the picture. Maybe I didn't do it right. Now all my photos are digital and I use the red eye function on the software from Kodak. Someone told me there is a cheaper version of Photoshop available, that gives you lots of fancy options for colorization etc. Gonna look into it. You might need a new digital camera too.....am I good at spending other people's money,?? You bet!! The anodized aluminum pans are not teflon but I'll have to google to see what the anodization process involves. I don't think it's a coating of any kind. And they are not stick proof by any means. But if you get any pan hot and then add your fat, food doesn't stick. It only sticks if you put your butter, oil or whatever in before the pan is hot.
Caution: Don't eat that blueberry pie I put on the counter, it was just as bad as the first one!! Ewwww, pasty doughy crust, I thought Sara Lee could bake better than that!
I scooped out all the filling on my slice and dumped ice cream on it. The blueberries were rubbery and tough. Never again. I must be a slow learner...
Off to the shower. It's pretty quiet so Sammi must have collapsed for his morning nap after chasing the girls all over the house. They are getting semi-friendly. As you can see, we spare no expense for cat toys for him..... he absolutel y loves the tissue roll, he can bat it around, carry it in his mouth, bite holes in it...nothing but the best for our little demon!!
Sarv... Calphalon uses several types of materials for pans... anodized, non-stick and stainless. What's left of my set is their original heavy aluminum with a hard anodized coating that holds up very well, but it's not the non-stick stuff they added to their line. Their non-stick stuff is teflon.
My best advise: get a good iron skillet (or a stainless steel one) and start getting it seasoned. My newer pans are stainless and even though stuff sometimes sticks, a good soak for 10 minutes loosens it right up and they clean easily then.
Casey... I have 2 sets of stuff like toothpaste, deodorant, etc. and one always stays in my suitcase along with extra underwear, etc. I used to keep a set at my mother's (and extra clothes) because I visited often. Sounds like you will have a fun trip!
Sarv , I found this on the FDA website: dated 1990, no more current date that I could find.
Anodized Aluminum
One reason that aluminum became popular for cookware is that it is an
excellent heat conductor. Heat spreads quickly and evenly across the bottom,
up the sides, and across the cover to completely surround the food.
Now cookware manufacturers have developed a process for treating
aluminum that retains the heat conductivity properties of the metal, but
changes aluminum in other ways. The process, called anodization, involves a
series of electrochemical baths that thicken the oxide film that forms
naturally on aluminum. This supplemental coating hardens the metal, making
it more scratch resistant. Food barely sticks on the hard, smooth surface of
this altered aluminum, making it easier to clean.
Commercial Aluminum Company, the manufacturer of Calphalon, a
best-selling brand of anodized aluminum cookware, claims that a final stage
in the anodization process seals the aluminum, preventing any leaching into
food. Anodized aluminum cookware doesn't react to acidic foods, so these
pots and pans are top choices for cooking rhubarb and sauces with tomato,
wine, and lemon juice.
Hi Darius! I'm leaning towards stainless steel. I have a gift certificate for LNT burning a hole in my pocket....
Hi Darius! I'm leaning towards stainless steel. I have a gift certificate for LNT burning a hole in my pocket....
Thanks for the info gals on the 'non stick' pans. I think I will revert back to the good old regular pans. Seems like they say they are ok and ten years down the road they say it is bad for ya.
M5- I never knew that you didn't want to add the oil before the pan is hot!! Learn something new every day!! There was an article in our paper rating pans and the ones at Sam's (not teflon) were rated high. I may just go check them out. I think I would like them for a valentines gift (no roses thank you!!)
I do have a digital, but have some that no matter what I do, still have a little red in them. I have used the red eye pen once - you need a very light hand to do it so it isn't noticeable. I think I will give it a try.
MIL called - she is such a major whiner. Wants more pot holder loops, but doesn't want the fuzzy ones and could I get them TODAY!! Go this place and if they don't have them, go here, and then there. I asked if she would like to go and of course she doesn't - just wants me to do all her running - then she complains about them!! Grrr (hey, do I sound like a whinner too LOL LOL)
Oh glory - sun is out here!!! I need to go out and get some vitamin D!!
I think I have mentioned before I have stainless ALL-CLAD cookware and
two LNTPans to make omeletes with, just perfect for that, only with little bit of butter for test, never sticks
Off to think and starting to prepare dinner for my family
Sarv, meant to tell you instead of flossing you can use tine little brush like tooth picks made by G- U- M
Sarv, meant to tell you instead of flossing you can use tine little brush like tooth picks made by G- U- M
this is so slow, waiting forever to post
Good grief!!! I missed a whole day yesterday......and I was in it!
Thanks so much Darius, for your visit and for the pictures. It's so nice to see a picture, not only both of Doxies together, but their whole bodies. I have many closeup pictures of Doxie noses....by the time I get set to take a picture, they have run up to smell the strange thing in mom's hand. Who knows, it just MIGHT be something to eat. LOL
This thread is such a joy! It's my first stop in the morning and I'm never dissapointed. I don't contribute much, but the "goings on" of my DG friends is better than soap operas, HGTV, Oprah and Dr. Phil. The only thing running on the TV during the day is the Weather Channel. You never know when something might turn up that needs immediate attention. I guess I'm "gun shy" after two years of the hurricane horrors! (smile)
Anyway..........of all the stories that have touched my heart, it's Maria and Sampson. I remember when she first joined us and have followed her progress since then. When Sampson came into her life, we not only had a lovely new pet to talk about, but we had a new Maria! So I say, "Salute' to Pet Power!"
Pati (the lurker)
Would it be safe to say Sampson gave Maria a new leash on life?
Couldn't resist, or be happier about it!
mg
Just got an e-mail from Sis that she joined DG!!! I've been telling her for months what a great site this is. Her screen name will be Heitzen (short for her last name of Heitzenroeder) and she is also from Lambertvillel, NJ.
The new mattress felt soooo good. Got new pillows also, they might take a little getting used to. Putting on the new sheets was a challenge. That mattress is darn heavy! alot harder to tuck the corners under than the old one.
Darius - Glad your trip is going so well.
M5 - I can see from the pictures that Sammy is growing. Cute little guy!
I have been having such a hard time with DG. Sometimes it doesn't load at all or is very slow.
LOL @ mg....good one!
Pati
Hi all
Well, so glad to hear your sis has joined DG, Suzie. Please tell her to come over to coffee, okay? Ooooh, new mattresses. Wow, we could sure use some. Just bought a foam topper to stretch the life of ours a bit longer. :) It's working okay, but sooner than later we'll be doing the mattress thing.
Hi Pati! I'm so jealous of Darius getting to love and snuggle your doxies. Please give them a hug for me.
DG has been real slow for me also ... both yesterday and a bit today.
Well, I just found out that my Mama took a spill yesterday. She and my Dad went shopping, and she tripped on something ... couldn't really make heads or tails out of what. Anyway, she fell on the pavement, tore a chunk out of her leg and hit her head. Now I have a sister who loves to tell things ... you know ... like stuff you don't want told? So why didn't she call me? I can not figure her out. Okay, sorry. You don't want to hear my family woes.
It's sunny and 65 here today. My tomato seedlings are *still* alive. PTL LOL Hi to everyone ... Elaine
Maria This flossing stuff sounds good I will look again and see if I can find my teeth. Have not seen them since Sunday.
Morning all. Or afternoon, I guess. LOL
I have done two exercise sessions this morning. Must say it does make you feel better. Hurts quite a bit but in a good way. Put the ice pack on after each time and it helps too.
Today is Walmart and SPCA day. I am going to take back the bill paying that I had turned over to our Exec Director. If I can type now and print out the paychecks, I can pay the bills. LOL
Makes me feel needed.
Silly Piper is out wading in the pond. It is 55 degrees, but I don't think it is warm enough to wade. She does though, already checking to see if there might be frogs to chase. That is a full time thing for the dogs in the spring. When DH mows the grass around the pond, he has a trail of dogs right behind him since he might stir up a frog or two.
No chance of rain this week, I guess we are supposed to be happy about the half inch from last Saturday. Am happy about it, but I want MORE.
Suzie, be sure to invite sis to coffee....we want to meet her.
Sarv, you stop that!! I appreciate the sympathy, but I don't want you to hurt!!!
I'm still using my pans. I don't know what to do really. Some of the ones that originally had teflon now are completely bare. I guess I can still use those then, right??? I would hate to throw out my stuff that I have had for 25 years. Oh well...
Off for lunch and my big day out.
Susan
=^..^=
Hi everyone. Earlier this morning I had trouble getting around on DG but now even with a slow connection speed, 24.0 kbps, I am getting around faster than I have in several days. I did manage to get over onto the Daves Garden forum and saw that others were having troubles and Dave had already fixed some of it, so I just waited a while and sure enough, it's working much better.
Elaine, I hope your mom is ok, certainly a bit sore, but hopefully only that. I agree that either your sister or your Dad should have let you know sooner, but maybe they didn't want to worry you. How is she today? Did she go to the ER?
Pati, we are glad to have you sitting quietly if you don't want to gab. My thanks to Darius for posting the picture of you and your cute little dogs. I agree, the Maria and Samson story is the best. Gayle, new leash on life, that's funny but certainly true. For a while there he was trying to teach her to fly and she was trying to teach him to walk, but it eventually worked out.
Darius, are you back at Molly's now? You are hard to follow sometimes and I know you told us what the plan was before you left.
Susie, do tell your sister to come in and say hello and have a no calorie cyber treat.
Meezer, that Sammi picture is so good, I can see the claw and bite marks on the end of the tube. Have to save the next one for my kitty. I've been saving them to start my corn in, it saves a couple of weeks of growing time in the garden which is important with a short season and somebody who thinks the corn on the cob season never lasts long enough. They come up about an inch and have roots clear to the bottom of the tube when I set them out in the garden tube and all.
The sun is out and new snow is bright. Last night was very stormy, too much snow in the air to use the tv (we have a sattelite dish) and the snow was blowing everywhere. Sometime durning the night it quit storming and we have sun today but that doesn't mean it is warm. The greenhouse is at about 78 and I will go in today to water, trim, repot, etc. I'd love to take a horseback ride but it is icey under the snow. Maybe I could take the saddle to the horse and ride through the pasture and into my neighbor's fields, but first it has to warm up a little. No point in freezing my fingers and especially my toes if I don't have to.
Cast iron frying pans are used a lot at my house, also some stainless steel saucepans, and 2 heavy aluminum ones with wooden handles on the saucepans and a dutch oven of the same stuff. When I pop corn I heat it in the largest wooden handled one, it just seems right to use something heavy for popcorn. They also get used for reheating thick things like chili if I don't just put that in the microwave in the serving bowls. My cupboard has way too many pots and pans, but I use them all so they can stay, some were my mother's, some my MIL's, some others got picked up somewhere along the way.
Well, now it's time for me to get a bit of work done around here, plenty to choose from, all I have to do is look around and there it is looking back.
SUNSHINE!!!
We have sunshine, guys!!!
I know, I know, Sarv, I am shouting, but....
Haven't had this nice of a day for months and NO RAIN either!
It is fairly warm out too. So wow, wished I could have taken the day off to work in the garden.
Before work today, I was emptying some compost out in the yard and my son was leaving for school and he said, "I bet you wished it was spring, don't you?" I told him yes, that I was so tired of the wet and rain, so.....maybe.....we can now start the road to spring???
Do want to comment on Sheila's cute Sammi. My kitties have always loved the free stuff around the house better than bought toys. One of my cats love tiny pieces of paper just wadded up and tossed in the air.
Mary, hope you get some of our sunshine over there today. It feels great!
Well, back to work. Later all, Carol (DR)
Elaine - Sure hope your Mom is OK. You can always vent about your troubles here at the table.
I will get Sis over here as soon as I can. Susan, ;you should get along wonderfully. She is a 6 kitty mom. Also recently adopted a greyhound.
I'm still using my non-stick pans also. I just bought a big saute pan and don't want to ditch it yet after I finally got a good one. i also have a couple cast Iron pans that I love.
Mary - Be careful if you go out in that snow/ice
Hi everyone
Oh oh oh, I just had the most wonderful surprise. maria called, and it was just what I needed to brighten up my day today. :) Now I know why Samson loves her so much. *waving to you, Maria* She is cooking the most delicious meal again tonight. Maybe we should all rent a cyber jet and go see her. LOL
Yes, my Mama is fine. She's just very sore and bruised. My Dad really wouldn't think to call. I don't think a thing about that ... and the sis loves to worry me about *anything* that suits her. That wasn't the reason. So, I'll just be a good girl and do better with my calling. I usually call every other day. Might better step up to every day. Don't have to talk long ... just check in. It's very hard to be away. Thanks for letting me vent. :)
Okay as for pots and pans ... I use stainless mostly. I do have a lot of iron cookware. There's just some things that cook better in that. One of my dutch ovens is so large and heavy I can't pick it up if it's full. I do love it, though.
Oh, I forgot to tell you the "rest of the story" about the keyboard. I took my keyboard back to Office Max. They said they had had other complaints on that one, so looks like I chose a lemon. LOL Anyway, went to a local computer store where the DH does a lot of business for work and got a plain ole keyboard for $10. Works like a charm. Can't beat that with a stick! *smile* Only problem with it is ... now I can't blame the keyboard for spelling errors. :)
Okay, my girl is sitting here looking pittiful, so I'll go feed her. Oh, before I forget ... Susan, so glad the PT is going good.
Will try to do better on my replies later.
... Elaine
Greetings,
Am at the library. Tried on my friend's computer this am to access Coffee... and couldn't.
Have only 30 minutes on this machine as the 60 minute ones are all busy; so I don't know how much of the above I'll get read, but I'll try. Looks like you've been yakking up a storm today.
Ann
Hey, I made it to the bottom. Skimming, mind you; so apologies if I don't respond to all
I'm wondering who makes good quality anodized aluminum (without non-stick) which you can buy open stock. Was in Kaufman's yesterday and I didn't see anything except non-stick. I'm not 100% sure that I like the stainless bottomed pot that I bought just at the end of November.
Had lunch with one good Rochester friend and then headed in to the sibley Library at the Eastman School of Music. Years ago I copied a piece for voice, cello and piano which is out of print but which Ifound there. The cello part would easily be adapted for viola. But in the process of copying years ago, I didn't get the top of one of the pages and didn't notice it until later. Now I have it. And then I met an acquaintance from the Viola list who is a grad student there for coffee. Now a brief stop at the Fairport library before meeting another set of friends for dinner.
Tomorrow looks like the pick of the weekend for returning to Ottawa. Will try to see a friend near Syracuse on the way back and be back for my handbell rehearsal at 6 pm.
Bye for now.
Ann
Patishell,
that it is just about one of the nicest post about me I have ever read, thank you for thinking about me like that but I want you to know it was not only Samson, it was many of you being kind and thoughtful and also my friends on Night owl, I miss that thread especially when I can't sleep but no one seems to be interessted in it anymore, now I am very happy to be here with all of you.
MG,
LOL, Samson certainly gave me a new 'leash' on life it is around my neck and he leads!! :-)
Elaine,
Get a new mattress but make sure it is not too heavy. too dificult to handle as one gets older lol as you can see what Suzy said even though it might be very comfortable. While on the phone talking with you I meant to ask how your Mama is? It was great talking with you!
Oz,
LOL, I know another smart guy like you :-)
Hi Ann!!!!
Hi Ann! Sounds like you're having a wonderful time. Glad you found that piece again and was able to get the rest of it.
Maria, thanks for asking about my Mama. She has had a lot of back and knee troubles lately, so I'm sure that's probably why she took a spill. She was so embarrissed. I reminded her about my fall a while back, and told her not to be embarrissed. She's fine, but will probably be moving slow for a couple of days. Thanks, again, for asking.
Suzie, went over to the welcome mat to say hello to your sis, but didn't see her there. Maybe I missed her or she didn't introduce herself? Do hope she'll come over and say hi.
Well, Dave must have figured something else out ... cause things have *really* picked up on my end over the past couple of hours. GO Dave! ;)
Speaking of going ... I better go to the kitchen! LOL LOL
... Elaine
Elaine - I just started a thread to welcome my sister. Gladf your Mom is OK.
ViolaAnn - Glad your having a good trip. Be safe driving home.
oz - your toothless??? Changes the picture I have of you in my mind!! Find them chompers....
Well, I went out and got the holder loops for my MIL and delivered them to her. While I was there I fixed her sewing machine and put up an indoor/outdoor thermometer we got her for Christmas. Phew, a lot of work. I even had to call DH to come up and do the screwing of some screws. Now remember, he doesn't speak to his mom so I wasn't sure he would come. But he did and they had the most delightful time. I know she misses him, but everytime she sees him she says something really hurtful. This visit was actually nice. I do feel sorry for her- she is lonely/depressed. Just sits home all day long. I keep telling her I will take her anywhere, but she never wants to go! Oh well...
mg- oh that was a good one about Maria's leash!!
IO1 - thinking of your mom and hope she doesn't have too many bruises. Heck, I've fallen so many times. One time I fell completely out of a train - I had a ton of packages and the train guy had his arm out and plop - down I went. I laughed so hard I piddled my britches (plus broke several fake nails!!) It really did hurt too, but I felt so stupid, that I couldn't help but laugh., (better to laugh than cry!!)
Patti - for heavens sakes, jump in and tell us what you are doing - we just chat about hoo-humm stuff - what we're eating and what we're doing for the day. Even if you are just sitting on your duff - that is good news!! LOL Now I expect to see postings from you daily....
Maria - where do you buy those brush things???
DH and I didn't know what to eat, so we both had a turkey sandwich (I've had enough turkey - so it's going in the trash tomorrow)
DG is running fine - I hoped we would have 'chat' today since Tues evening didn't work...
You can find those little brushes in the drugstore where they have the floss, and miscellaneous dental stuff. They look like tiny bottle brushes, and fit between your teeth at the gum line and they last pretty long until you bend them out of shape like I do.
Sarv, I bought two new pans today. One is a big Cuisinart frying pan from LNT and the other is a Wolfgang Puck sauce pan, about 12 inches across. Both stainless. The sauce pan has a lid. Now I have to get brave and take the teflon lined pans and throw them out. It would be a disservice to give them to the Goodwill and perpetrate the teflon poisoning, wouldn't it?
Sammi gave me a long lecture about being gone when I got home, so I flopped on the sofa with him and fell asleep! Now DH is home and he is following him around. Boy did he get spoiled in a hurry. Sammi I mean, although that probably applies to DH too.
Oz, your teeth are in the collection basket at church. Go get them, we can hardly understand you.
Better start dinner. Hmmmmmmm not a clue.
S.
Okay, I'm back for just a min. Am fixing chick marsala so can't stay, but I have a question since everyone is still talking pans. I have a pan ... I don't know the name of it ... but it looks like a big skillet, only deep and came with a glass lid. It's no stick and I use it a lot because I don't stir things out. I'd like to have another like it, but all they seem to make these days have handles that are *very* long and also those other loop handles on the other end. The handle on my pan is 7 inchs which is perfect. I bought one a few months ago, but the handle is 8-1/2 long which makes it extend *way* too far out. Plus you have that other thingie to be careful of. Maybe these are not problems for other people, but I have too many handles on my stove when I'm cooking and hit them. Does anyone understand what I'm talking about?
... Elaine
Hi all
Glad I'm not the only one who was having DG problems! I couldn't get onto chat last night and couldn't get anything to post yesterday. DH has been travelling, too, so here I am with the computer to myself and DG acting up!!
The good news is I cleaned again (I think that's twice since Christmas LOL) . I have been having terrible allergies to the pets, trying all sorts of meds, I vaccuum with a HEPA filter vaccuum, but if I have to pick things up or move around a lot, things must become airborne, and I sneeze uncontrollably until I am exhausted. Today I made an appointment with an allergist. Have any of you tried desensitization? I have to do something! My cats are 16,9 and 5, dogs are 13 and 10. Of course I can't send them away. The allergies have developed over the last five years and gotten much worse this last year.
Ann~I hope you're having fun in your travels. How nice to get out and meet friends all over. It's the best cure for cabin fever, and sounds like the traveling weather won't be too bad.
Elaine~glad your Mama's okay. It is hard to fall when you're older! You just don't bounce back any more!
M5~ It looks like Sammi is growing like a weed! Dont' you wish they could stay little a little longer?
Patti~It's so nice to put a face with your name, after all the work you've done keeping up with the storms and hurricanes! Do pop in more often!
sarv~ You are a good soul for all your kindness to MIL. I don't know all your family issues, but I'm glad your DH could help out.
Mary~ I started reading your adventures. You are going to inspire me. I want you to know how much I like to read about your horse and farm adventures.
RE:the cookware debate. I have my mother's old Revere ware, a few nice cast iron pans, a SUPER well seasoned wok (was also my mothers.) I've had a couple teflon pans over the years but noticed they would flake and never quite trusted them.
Olive oil is good for your heart, so I figure I'd rather saute with that than chemicals. In the end, most of the artificial stuff them come up with tends to have bad effects, and you don't find out for ten years or more.
I love cast iron but used to have roommates who would leave it soaking! ARRRGGGHHH! Now I don't trust the kids either, so I just keep it away except for bacon & eggs.
Oh yes, mg~ Where have you been? Seems like I haven't seen you around! Hope you're well
Dmcd, have you considered an air filter, they make pretty big ones now, with filters you can run water over to clean. They pick up a lot of dust, hair, etc. DH has one in his den because it is a small room, and the cats like to hang out in there.
That was a lot of cooking for DD and her husband but it was good, lots of pots and oans to clean, I thinks I will have two loads for the dish washer, oh well have nothing elese to do.
Wish I could help you Eileen about that pan with a shorter handle, perhaps I will spot one when I go to the mll again.
I am terribly allergic to cats,, don'r sneeze but my eyes itch so I used to rub them raw. If I went to some ones house I knew right away there was a cat around withiout seeing one. My DD has a beautiful Maine coon, and the first thing he does when I visit is jump into my lap, wouldn't you know!
Meezer, Wolfgang Puck can't do wrong, after all he is an Austrian LOL
Back to my dishes
Lemme see... I'm waaaay behind, LOL.
M5, GET RID of the teflon!
Susan Elaine: If your non-stick has ANY scratches, TOSS IT OUT! It's very dangerous regardless of how much you like the handle size. And Yes, I DO understand about handle sizes on your stove. : )
Mary, I'm back at Molly's. (For now!)
Maria, I miss talking to you (IM's) but I do have a tiny gift for you soon. (Depends on weather.)
Everyone else I missed... Just know I read everything and then promptly forget!
Good Evening All,
It was a beautiful day today. Got a call from the elctricians wife about her DH coming to hook so regular power to the pole. We've already wired the shed, dug the trench, buried the line all the way to the pole. Now he just has to come and attached it on a 20 amp circuit.
Since we were waiting to hear from him, no supply run was made today. So we hauled dirt and 4X4's to the back yard for a "berm" project.
I think my son feels sometimes he's carrying a pretty big load here and he will sit down to take a break and watch me shovel dirt and haul the wheelbarrow. Now, it can be pretty tricky to get him off his behind without seeming to dictate. But when his 52 yo mom is hauling a wheelbarrow full of dirt, it tips over and she ends up on her back side with one leg under the barrow and a big cramp in her big glute, he comes running to her rescue. :^)))))))
We now have a pretty big hole dug to make a pond with. See, killed two birds with one stone.
It's 46 outside and I'm having one of those "warm" moments, so maybe I'll go out and cool down.
We were sposed to go to the Renaissance Fest today, but found it was a weekend thing so we'll go Friday instead. So tonight we went to town for Mexican. It was a nice night out and we are all full of beans and rice.
I still have my teflon. I spent a lot of money for the few I have so they will stay in the cupboard. See, I don't cook, so it doesn't really matter.
Molly
:^)))
Just hand him the shovel, Molly!!!
Well I guess I shll go to bed, hope I will be able to sleep again am very tired that usually means I won't
See you all tomorrow
Hi everyone
Well, we had a late supper tonight. Unwrapped the mushrooms and they had a terrible odar. Yuck! Can't stand that! I always buy them from Sam's, but that pack sure wasn't fresh. Put the Marsala on hold and sent the DH back to the store. Don't you just *hate* that? Grrrrr Anyway, it was good when we finally got it.
Night Maria. Hope you're not too tired to sleep. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes when I've been real busy ... I just can't seem to sleep.
DMC, hope your allergies improve.
Well, I have a little friend who is going to be 6 tomorrow and I still don't have a present for her. Don't have a clue what to get. I'm never around kids, so don't know what they like. Am thinking I'll just get a gift card, but really don't like to do that for one that age. *sigh* She's a sweetie. Already outgrew me, though. LOL She's 6 going on 16. ;)
Well, off to see what else is going on. Hi to those I've missed today.
... elaine
