oh, cool mary. thanks.
any puppy photos, sherry? you know i love goldens.
=)
=)))) new (to me) professional jiffy greenhouse 72
Thats a cool site for the pollen storage...I ended up using those pill containers with lids from walgreens. I havent graduated to advanced polleniation yet...although I did get a seed pod from brazillian white x pink ecuador brug...havent grown it yet...
Here are the small glassine envelopes I use for pollen. You just put the anther in these little bags. The sides are almost like wax paper, so the pollen does not stick to it and you get every last drop to use. I just stick in the paintbrush to get the pollen. I write the brug name and date collected and date frozen on the out side of the bag. I then just fold it over twice to close it.
Yep, those were the cups I thought, the name Costco threw me off, we do not have a Costco outlet, but I knew I bought the cups locally, mystery solved, proving, yet again, that a picture says a thousand words. Thanks kell!!!
dixie cups! thanks, kell! btw, THERE IS HOPE =). and since he is more like his daddy, he probably won't mind putting up a hoophouse, digging holes for plants for you and future wife.
PINK ALERT: driving around san francisco after church today. we were at the presidio and i thought we take the little guy to the little playground in the area. julius kahn park. B. SANGUINEA "FLAVA?" - - - it's pink, kell. i was caught again without a camera. at least 3 HUGE plants. wow, oh, wow. i'm going to make a few phone calls tomorrow and ask how i can get a cutting, or POLLEN. i've gone really BONKERS.
They are at the park, Annapet? Any seedpods? Sangs are really hard to root. You would have better luck if you wait till March if you are going to try to get a cutting to root and get a few to increase your chances. Hey Lady BRING YOUR CAMERA where ever you go in the future. They are all over San Francisco. They love the weather there.
Did it look like this one?
i should bring my camera all the time. argh!
kell, the ones i saw are definitely PINKER. that area gets a lot of shade from the tall trees. the plants/trees look really healthy. no holes on leaves, etc. i bet no one really babies them the way we care for our brugs.
of course when i finally got home late in the evening, i turned on all the lights outside to check on my yellow sang. it has leafed out! it wasn't the prettiest brug when i bought it at the nursery, but i have nursed it back to health. hee-hee.
JOYCE you probably think i'm nuts. well, i am. lol.
Oh Annapet.. no hun... I don't even think your nutz.. I haven't even posted my "collection" as of now.. I'm embarrased!!! I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I can tell you it's gonna be a LOT OF WORK.. it already is!
I have several seedlings.. misc nice ones from purchased seed.. a few from Calalily.. then I have a flat of... well.. ummm okay.. 62 up so far.. more popping out every day.
I'm glad I don't go for Sangs that much.. the weather wouldn't allow it anyway.. I don't dare visit one more forum.. since I got bit by the daylily and vines bug..
Now you see why I don't think your crazy???
Oh.. I forgot to mention cuttings didn't I... humm haven't counted yet.
So I think your in good company here!! LOL
i think you'll have a JUNGLE soon.
nothing is happening yet on my jiffy experiment. it hasn't dried out either.
on the H2O2 topic, turned out i'm good with the 99 cents kind from target. it's 3% and recommend as foliar spray. recipe follows:
house & garden plants (for growth) : to one quart add one ounce 3% H202 or 16 drops of
35% H202. mist and or water plants frequently. i'll try it tomorrow.
it's 69F and gorgeous. i can't complain. i weeded around my 3 "about face" grandifloras (triangle layout) and imagining a brug standard to match the trio! will place it dead center of the triangle....then around the roses and under the brug standard, i'm thinking of LILIES.
suggestions and cuttings of the that brug, WELCOME. lol.
I hope you don't mind me adding this.
Here are the instructions for making them.

I think everyone has old newspaper and here
is a good use for it. You could get your kids
involved with this project and you will have a
bunch in no time.
I'm going to transplant my started seedling into them.
Then come May I will just peel away the newspaper
and plant them into the ground or into a pot.
This worked really well for me several years ago with
tomato seedlings. Saved some money too....
Here are a couple of photos to show you. I plan on doing
some transplanting this weekend
not at all, kin. thanks for the info. this sounds like a good project with my little guy. i'll find the time...i should be more organized now that i will start working again...
update on the jiffy:
nothing yet!
Moonglow, I've been meaning to mention this about 3% and 35% hydrogen peroxide. I use the 35% because I'm more respectful of the strength, and always follow the instructions. I've used the 3% all my life and never follow the instructions and find that I over use it or under use it. I never found peroxide useful with plants until I found the 35% food grade. When I used the 3%, my first brug growing season, I burned the devil outta my brugs, and I've never gotten over it. However, I've been using the stronger, 35%, grade and have never had anything but good results. I doubt I'll run outta the 35% for a very long time, but in the event I do, I'm going to try the 3% again...
sherry, thanks for mentioning that. i do want to try your 35%, too, but i haven't gotten around placing an order. i've been such a good girl! i want to get rid of some of the plant elixirs i have collected before i get another one.
oh, my! i just checked weather.com and no rain for another week! woo-hoo!
I've sworn off of more purchases this growing season, I have enough to start a business...some I've never used...that would be, many I've never used...
hopefully, i'll finish off MESSENGER this season.
miracle-grow, super-thrive, and epsom salt work wonders. definitely keepers.
neem oil is new to me, and i'm using it especially for my roses. then bayer advanced to fertilize and protect.
Gardenkinguy..that is a cool set up.. will try- I suppose we could use dixi cups too, like sherry.
My seeds are popping through the roof of my little jiffy hut- Its that old heating pad that/s helping I/m sure. I have to keep taking seeds out because they are hitting the roof of the seed tray. The heating pad is great because you can adjust the heat. higher for night - lower for day.
I/m actually very excited because there are 2 seeds from Africa that have sprouted. I found them in a bag my mother had colleced in....1976..(we were missionaries in Liberia and The Gambia west Africa) . Now if I can keep them allive.
Very cold tonight...thank goodness it rained first to keept he ground a bit warmer.
rj, that is way cool! wow, i'm 6 years older than those seeds!
Wow, that's amazing Randy, good luck!!
hahaha..you young thang!!
