I have never heard of the "Roundup" before but the brief description has my curiosity peaking! What, in detail please, is the roundup? Is this a one day thing or overnight? Who brings plants and how many people usually attend? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Jeanne
2nd Annual Nor Cal Stockton Roundup - April 29, 2006
Jeanne,
our roundup will be for one day, we all bring our lunch (sandwich & drink or whatever you like) and a sidedish or dessert to share. There will be a food table set up for us all to serve ourselves from. We bring our extra plants to share or trade with each other. Actually, you can bring pretty much anything garden-related that you want to share. We then spend the day visiting, eating & sharing! :~)
As for how many will attend, I have no idea, but it looks like quite a few people are going to try! Nice to see so much interest!
Donna:
Wish I could be there! Looks like this one is going to be MUCH larger than last year's, and that one was a blast!
Jeanne:
There's a forum called "Roundup" and one called "Roundup Pictures" - take a look at all of the other ones that have been organized for DG members throughout the U.S. A good time is had by one and all!
Well Donna, looks like my little secret has come to a head now. :-) My DH and I are going to take a little trip up to Stockton for this RU. We've been wanting to take a little trip somewhere, and this sounds great. We have a few friends up that way and want to visit with some of them too.
My DH wants to know if any other hubbies are golfers and would they be interested in playing golf while we talk plants. lol
I really am looking forward to meeting many of my No. Cal garden buddies....Stockton, here I come. :-))))
Donna
Hi SoCal. . .what troopers you and your hubby are. That's going to be quite a trip from down your way. I'm really working on getting to this RU. I couldn't go to it last fall. Will look forward to seeing you there. Had a great time last summer in Temecula.
There are some nice golf courses up that way. Lived in Stockton for about 10 years and my DS and his wife still live there and he golfs often.
You don't happen to have these still: The Dwarf Papyrus 'Nanus' and Physostegia - Obedient plant? I thought I had them going good and when that 31 day 100°+ weather hit us in July-August, I lost a bunch of things. Guess they weren't established well enough to survive. I almost didn't survive myself. . LOL. Anyway, will be great to see you again!!
Janet
Great Donna! Glad it all worked out & am looking forward to meeting you! My DH & I used to golf, have not done it for a couple of years though. I will ask him if he is up to the challenge. LOL
Hi Janet,
Yea, I'm lucky to have a DH that lets me enjoy these RU's if possible. He is the one who gave me the chance to go to the Kentucky RU a few years ago. We just made a nice vacation out of it, as we had never been it that area of the USA.
I don't have any more of the Dwarf Papryus, but I might have a few more of the Obedient Plant. Let me check them out before I give you a real "yes" on them. All but one of the plants I got from you are doing very well. :-) I hope to see you again at this one.
Donna, got your email and will give my DH the information on the courses. Thanks. So how many people have shown some serious interest so far?
Donna
hmmm, good question. I think I will start putting names in the first post.
If anyone is planning on coming, let me know & you can check the first post for status. If your status changes, please let me know so I can keep the list updated. Thanks!
I am comming with wife and My brother and sister-in-law if I can con him into it .
He has a van - more room for plants .
There used to be a feed store in Stockton that sold the 20 foot corn seed . Anyone know if it is still in bussiness ?
No , I don't know the name of store .
This sounds like it is going to be a great roundup. I had so much fun at the one I went to last year and am so sorry that I will have to miss this one.
Tjr. . . . .Don't know about a feed store, but this is a great source of veggie seeds that I know of in Stockton. Lockhart Seeds, Inc. Here's the link to the Garden Watch Dog. Good rating too!
http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/1320/
Edited to add: Forgot to mention : They sell seed for 'Bodacious' Sweet Corn. But, according to the Plant Files, it only gets to about 8 ft. It's the favorite of one of the teachers at a local jc college in their farming operation. However, Farmerdill doesn't give it too good of a review. But, then he lives in GA, not here in sunny CA. 8-)

Tony,
there is a Farmers Feed on Miner St, and the only other feed store that I know of was one on Fremont St near Hwy99, but it went out of business. Can't remember the name.
And Lockehart seed really is a cool little store. Really small, but all the seeds are still stored in little wooden drawers behind the old counters. Like stepping back in time. :~)
Hope that helps.
I can call Farmers feed tomorrow if you like & ask about the corn. Just let me know. :~)
Donna
Donna, my DSIL, Sissy, isn't a Dave's member (just until she's online at home!) but I know she would love to come and has been getting her plants ready since the CV roundup. Please count her in as well as my Mother, Pat. Mom's going to learn how to take cuttings this year! We are all looking forward to it!
yes, I remember meeting her there, great! And your mom too, she is so nice. :~) Good luck on her cuttings, you have infected her with our addiction, huh? LOL
Post your trade lists, wish lists, etc here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/575305/
Well... I'll try to make it, I have a friend in Modesto, maybe I can infringe on her hospitality for a night or so. Sounds fun!
Bj
We're a zone 9b in Lodi? I thought it was 9a.
Put me on the list. If anyone from San Diego wants to attend, just let me know. The train stops in Burbank and the bus stops 2 miles from my house, We can hold 5 people in the car. My husband will drive up and take us, it just might save you a few $$$$ Norma
Crasulady2@dslextreme.com I'll be bring a flat of plants, 25 plants what are your wishes. I will help with this but don't know how. Just tell me what to do. I had a blast at the one held in San Diego.
Hi Donna, put me on the list. I will be bring 25 plants, and will be happy to bring some cold drinks, you just tell me what to do. If I can help with the wish list, I'll be glad to do that. Will not cook.
I will need to know if I will need to walk up a hill. Norma Crasulady2@dslextreme.com
Great Norma, I look forward to meeting you! What a nice hubby to drive you all that way! If you need info on hotels in the area, let me know and I will look some up for you. No hills to worry about here, either, nice flat land.
Lisa started a wish list, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/575305/ so that is already covered, but thanks for the offer! :~)
What a nice turnout I think we will have. What fun, huh?
Donna
oh, and cold drinks are fine. I will be bringing lots of extra food so you will not go hungry. :~)
Lets not lose out enthusiasm everyone! Roundup is next month and I hope that everyone that is listed as coming can still come, and those listed as maybe are a little closer to knowing if they can make it.
Please try to let me know so I will know how big of an area to reserve.
I have decided, since our numbers look pretty high, to go ahead and plan to have it at Micke Grove Park. Here is a link that you can go to for information. Vehicle entry fee is $5.
http://www.co.san-joaquin.ca.us/parks/regional%20facilities.htm#Micke%20Grove%20Regional%20Park
I will get a nice shady place, but you will need to bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket if you prefer to sit on the grass.
I'm still planing on comming .
I'm not coming...
Hi All - I will be out of town on April 29th so I won't be able to join the round up this year. I was there last year and had a great time. I am planning on thinning out my white ginger and a yellow-orange alstromeria patch soon. If anyone is going to the roundup from the Sacramento area, I can drop off the plants at your house if you live close by (Pocket/Greenhaven area) and you can bring them to the roundup.
Wouldlike to come, but Stockton is a bit far.
Suzanne
The last round up was way too much fun, so i am sorry i will miss this one, but from Santa Cruz, it's just a little too far to go....
Will have to organise one nearer my way soon..
Hugs all Diane
Only one more week to order pens and plant tags. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/574240/
As of now it appears there is not enough interest in metal tags, but I will be getting the permanent pens and plastic tags.
I am looking forward to this, especially since I just got my Jury notice to appear on 4/24. Hopefully no sequestering on the weekend, otherwise I may have people chasing me to the round up.
Ok, George. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they let you out for good behavior on the weekends. Thanks so much for organizing the labeling project. That was very kind of you.
C'mon 4/29!!
april 29 at 10am... that's funny. it's the same day/time as the los altos swap. well, you guys have fun. :)
I'm still planning on coming. I may bring my friend that I'll be staying with in Modesto, if she doesn't have other last min. plans.
Bj
Oh George, I sure hope you can still come!
I updated your status BJ, thanks for letting me know.
Where do we park our row boats?????? LOL
No kidding! I sure hope this rain business is over by Roundup! LOL
im gonna stay a maybe but will probally make it:)
Donna. . been waiting before I opted out, but had a sneaking suspicion that the 40th wedding anniversary garden party I'm co-hosting for dear friends would end up being on your chosen date. And, alas it is so. So, I won't be able to make it to this one either (already missed Castro Valley and yours last year). I'm not giving up hope though and will make it to a N. Cal RU yet!! I'll be thinking about all of you having a blast (but probably not too much, as I'll have my hands full with 100+ guests). I'll look for the next one. 8-) Janet
Hope you can come Anna, and Janet, I am so sorry to hear you will miss it again! Well, have a good time and hopefully there will be another Castro Valley RU & you can make that one.
Lets all keep everything crossed that this crazy weather clears up before the end of the month. I am so tired of being stuck inside! But I started several flats of seeds to give away at RU, so at least something good came from it. LOL
My mother suggested I use this time to get my inside Spring cleaning done...so anyway, I got lots of seeds started. ;~)
Oh, btw, if anyone has an excess of water lillies, can you d-mail me? I am going to be putting in a pond as soon as the lake that is there dries up, and would really like a lily or 2. I have been documenting my progress in my garden diary if anyone cares to look.
Well....I guess I stuck my "YES" out there too quick. RATS!
My DH reminded me that we signed up for the county wide garage sale & it's the same weekend. We have been going to do this since we moved here & our garage is over flowing. I did promise this would be the one, & he already paid for our ad & we are on the map.
(For some reason I thought it was the week before. )
I can't back out & if I leave him to do it...well, need I say more, he'd just give everything away & go sit, relax & have a beer!
I was really looking forward to this too!
Maybe I can make the next one!
Well, I think I am going to bring a couple of friends if that is okay.. I share plants with them, so I think it's fitting.. although they are not online, they are plant nutz like me. If it is okay, I have 1 for sure and one or two more persons I'd like to invite.
We will all be bringing food.. I think I can bring 2 big folding tables.. Like maby one for food and one for plants??
I have some Ancho, Jalapeno and Bell Pepper plants, several mixed brug seedlings, some angel wing begonia cuttings, a few double lavender rose of sharon cuttings that I took last fall, some aloe vera, and some other seedlings I can't think of right now.. That's a start though..
HI Donna,
This sounds like a great event, one that normally I would be there in a flash.......but, my wife is running in the March of Dimes run in Sacramento and my daughter has a softball game. It is really hard for me to get away in spring. But thank you very much for the offer and keep me posted on any other things going on. I was going to go to the Amador Flower Farm Spring Fling this past weekend but the weather has been so bad, I will just have to plan a trip another time.
Cheers, Keith
Hi I'm in Lodi and new to daves would love to to go.
thanks
