berrygirl's fragrant RR part 2

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi all!
I thought I'd start a new thread for our RR.

I have started us with 48 pks of seeds. There are multiples of a lot of the same types. I didn't realize that there really aren't that many different seeds readily available of all the countless fragrant plants there are in nature. You just can't find tree, vine and shrub seeds- not to mention rose seeds and oriental lily seeds.

I have enclosed instructions and addy labels. If anyone has ANY questions or problems, please dmail me or post here on this thread.

I have gotten all my seed pks and am ready to mail it out- BUT I am in no hurry! I want EVERYBODY to be ready and will not start it 'til I get the green light. Would everyone who is participating, PLEASE post here and let me know if you are ready to go or need a bit more time.

Thanks!
Debbie

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Heavin,
Oh I didn't take offense at what you said- I took it as a joke and responded in kind. I was thinking of Martha Stewarts "Its a good thing".

I should have put my usual "LOL" afterwards- LOL!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

It was a joke but ya just can't tell in print how the words were ment. an "LOL" would have been good, LOL!

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL!!

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have heard from my first 5 that it's a go.

Robin is in flight in the AM. Will post tracking # when I get it. Due to the increase in postage I am sending it regular mail w/ tracking #. Everyone else can do the same.

Heavin, be on the look out. Please post when you get it and later post when you send it- along with the confirmation/tracking #. Try to keep it no more than 2 days.

This is the first 5 order:

Makshi

Hope everyone gets lots of what they want!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Postage was $1.95 incl .60 for conf #- not bad at all!

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Can't you print the label online and get free confirmation?
I do that for priority boxes but figure you can do the same for envelopes right?
Carol

Okay, somehow I've missed this, but now I'm with y'all and am good to go, also. :)

Ready and waiting!

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

np/Nancy,
Blue needs more time b/c of her DH's surgery. When you mail out the RR, could you please send the RR to Shirley instead of Blue? That is if I don't have it listed that way already. I don't remember if I changed the order or not- LOL!
Thanks!

Warren, NJ(Zone 6a)

Yes, will do... that is if my mailorder seeds ever arrive!;)

Blue, I hope everything is OK.? You and your husband are in my thoughts.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

np,
When the RR gets to you, please let me know if you need more time- won't be a prob at all. This goes for everyone else as well.

(Zone 7a)

Hello, many things to do a happy dance over here. DH's surgery went well on Monday, and all his aches and pains are right on schedule. Now, Heavinscent, was that your foot or my foot that just found its way to my chops??? LOL But really, each day he's moving around better and has taken himself off those befuddling pain pills. He's reading by our toasty woodstove right now, and enjoying his recuperation. So, supposing our box takes 2 days per person, it won't get to me until a little over 2 weeks from now, by which time DH will be back to snuff and I can get to the post office.

BG, The Fragrant Path catalog just arrived at our mailbox today, and guess what's in it? seed of:

Woody Plants:
Prunus mume - it flowers during any warm winter spell here and has a perfume to levitate over
various fragrant rose species
and many other fragrant woody plants

Vines:
Mandevilla suaveolens
various fragrant clematis species
various kinds of Lagenaria siceraria (night flowering, fragrant gourds with white fringed flowers)
sweet peas (only fragrant ones) and nasturtiums by color
and many other fragrant vines

Bulbs:
different kinds of fragrant lilies
a Muscari

Fragrant Grasses:
Cymbopogon martinii motia - a fragrant grass - has geraniol for which we love the rose scented geranium - for potpourri and some cultures burn it to purify a room
other fragrant grasses

Little Things that Look Up at You and are nice for pots:
Dianthus allwoodii - low, ground-hugging silver mats, hardy, very fragrant, various shades and patterns of cream/pink/rose
Dianthus superbus 'Loveliness Hybrids' - 18" tall, very fragrant, another spectrum of shading in cream/pink/rose
Other Dianthus species
Erysimum asperum - a much hardier species of wallflower than Cheiranthus, with which it is often confused
Papaver alpinum - 6" - yellow, pink, salmon, white - "unexpected sweet breath" - wonder what he means by that?
Viola odoratta 'Queen Charlotte' - he says the hardiest one?

Things a little taller than the foregoing but still great for a pot:
Mignonette (Reseda)
Salvia viridis - not fragrant, but nice to follow up bare spots created by earlier spring bloomers like poppies and wallflowers later in summer

and other wondrous and/or once-upon-a-time "common" smelly and not-smelly stuff

I don't know what I'll order by Monday. I just mention the above in case anyone else has a hankering for plants like these. Hopefully, there'll be enough seeds of whatever I buy to share with this RR.

The Fragrant Path does not:
have a phone
tell you how many seeds are in a packet

Their snail mail address is:

The Fragrant Path
PO Box 328
Fort Calhoun, Nebraska 68023

There website is: http://www.fragrantpathseeds.com/ (added 2/1/06)

There are a lot of plants grown in Louise Beebe Wilder's time that The Fragrant Path sells for which I don't know any other source. And, also, for all the bright photos of plants in other glitzier catalogs, they often still can't seem to get their botanical nomenclature correct. But The Fragrant Path cares enough to get it right.

Wow, blue, that sure sounds like a different catalog!
They all sound good to me!
Fragrant clematis? That sound interesting to me.
And those Dianthus too. Plus the viola. I love pansies and violas at this time of the year when it is so dead outside.

(Zone 7a)

Daisyruffles, I'm precariously close to hi-jacking this thread - I'll send you a dmail in the morning.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Blue, I know you posted the address for Frag. Path somewhere but I can't seem to find it. I don't mean to help you hi-jack the thread but can you give the address again please!
Caren
P.S. your foot must be taking lessons from mine! lol!

(Zone 7a)

Heavinscent, I put Frag. Path's address in my windy post of Jan 27 at 8:20 pm, 2nd paragraph from the bottom. I got it from the Garden Watchdog on DG.

BG, many thanks for this winter diversion.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Boy was that fast! The package arrived today I have already gone thru and taken what I wanted and added my stuff in. I nipped a few seeds out of a few bags but I added some other seeds in.The bag total is now 50 not counting the reserved bag for Pins and one I reserved for Daisyruffles. I will get it back out Monday, So Shuggins be on the look out!
Thanks!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

For anyone who is not familiar with The Fragrant Path, please read what has been posted in the Garden Watchdog. http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/141/ It is an excellent "no frills" catalogue, with prices for seeds that can't be beat! However, you won't find them on the web......bummer!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Also, you might be interested in checking out the flower garden at Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Lots of fragrant plants and hard to find seeds. http://www.monticello.org/gardens/flower/index.html

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, Caren, thanks.
This is getting exciting now! Can't wait to see and add mine.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

No. A full set of instructions is included in the envelope.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Sounds like it is moving right along.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

I got the package off today. I can't remember now did you need me to post the conformation # ? I ve got it if needed. We will have to get this going for another round BG this was fun!
Thanks!
Caren

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Caren,
Yeah, it's always a good idea to post it. I hope you got lots of seeds you wanted? Thanks so much for participating!
