My husband has informed me that he wants me to grow posies, since he recalled the "Ring around the Rosie" song. Now mind you that my husband has never really involved himself in what he would like to see grow in the garden, so when he does indulge in a request, I do my best to appease him, in the event he might actually take further interest. I did a google search under Images, and nothing really came up, that showed me what a posie is. Like when you do a search on daffodil, you get pics of daffodils right?
So here's my question, where does one begin to look for posies? I have never seen posies for sale, or is posies just another name for a more common flower like a Pansy or something? Maybe Pansies are posies? Who knows, but I hope you can help me solve this Posie predicament!
Thanks,
Mina
Pocket full of Posies
Probably just a generic term for flowers, but in my youth was often used for a bed of Petunias
A posy (plural posies) is a small bunch of flowers or a nosegay. It doesn't matter what the flowers are but they are usually a mix of whatever is in season.
One theory for the posy in Ring a Ring a Roses is that they were held to the face as some believed that smell could transmit disease, holding something sweet smelling to the nose was considered a preventative measure.

Wow! Very cool! So I guess I can pick whatever flowers I want and just tell my husband that they are posies!
Yeah, but if he catches the gardening bug, you'll be busted. LOL I always thought they were pansies, too. Must be a regional thing.
