CLEANING WALL O WATERS STRUCTURE

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

I HAVE YET TO CLEAN MY 6 WALL O WATER STRUCTURES BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET ALL THE DIRT, MOLD OR POSSIBLE DISEASE SPORES OUT. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hi
I saw those , can you tell me about them , do you like them? and do they work? they look really cool, no pun intended lol
thanks sue
Ps i am from Palo Alto CA

Forgive me for my ignorance but aren't those the rose cone shaped baffle type deals that hold water to extend the growing season for tomato plants and such? I would think you could just wipe them down with a mild dilution of bleach couldn't you? I mean that's what we use on all the inner tubes and pool floats which are probably made out of a similar material.

Would it be possible to contact the manufacturer and ask them how they suggest you clean them.

I too have always wondered if they worked. Do they? Have you done any side by side comparisons?

They work wonders for me but they do get dirty and I too would love to know how to get all that grime out of the bottoms of those long narrow baffles.

Yes, they definately do work. This reply is months past due, but now that it is cleaning time again, I'll revisit the question. I do hope someone responds who knows an easy and efficient way to clean them. I have 15. That's how many I need to get any success with growing tomatoes in Berkeley, CA!

Have you tried e-mailing them?

After looking at pictures of them It seems that a baby bottle brush in a weak ammonia solution would do it.

We use a baby bottle brush and a weak bleach solution. High powered water shot at the bottom of the tube helps, but is messy.

Equil, I believe the rose coloured ones are the Kosy Kotes brand from Canada, and the pale blue-green ones are the Wall O' Waters from the US. (I could be wrong on that one).

We used Wall O Waters extensively when gardening in the Sierras at 6,500 ft. One of the few ways to get tomatoes in those growing conditions.

Now that I'm back down in the SF Bay area, we used them on the peppers, eggplants and okra to give them that extra warmth early in the season. This past summer took a long time to warm up properly. Our pepper and eggplants were looking poorly when the nights cooled down in June......thought we were going to lose them. After a week in the wall o waters, then just took off!

Wall O Waters may look funny in the garden, but they sure do a great job of creating micro climates if you need to garden in a small space.

They sound really neat. Their web site says to put a penny or a drop of chlorine in each tube to prevent algae from growing, so I'm sure you could use bleach and water to clean 'em, too.
