OH I have missed so much
Hope all are well ~~ Those who are not feeling well I wish great speed in recovery.
If I have missed something huge I hope to catch up enough to comment soon.
Had my nephew today and a busy weekend ahead but will try to stay tuned.
Love to all from the very absent but hopeing to catch up!
Anne
I was wondering about the 3 day weekend, until I looked at the calendar just awhile ago. Since I am not working any more, forgot that it was MLK holiday. Used to look forward to any holiday that I got off work. I would have celebrated the "grinche's birthday " just to get an extra day off work. LOL.
Well, I am truly off to bed, but won't set the alarm, hope to sleep until about 10:00 tomorrow morning. Yeah, the last time I did that, I think I was in the hospital, being given plenty of drugs.
Night All.
Somebody stop me. I was just on ebay looking for garden stuff. What's wrong with me anyway?
Anybody have some Lily of the Valley pips they want to get rid of?
Good morning everyone , everybody must still be in bed. I started early today, MY Husband is off and we walked to get some donuts with the dog , then when I got home thehad given me the wrong type of donuts so I had to go back. It had been months since I had any so I intented to have the right thing.
Imagine that yesterday was friday the 13th, worse it was our wedding anniverssary 37 years and my ex-daughter in law called me to wish us "happy anniversary" . I never forget dates, birthdays, or anything else. My husband knew it and was waiting to see along it would take me to remember. I cannot sayit is a day like another , because it is not , it is a milestone that not too many people achieve and I am happy and proud of us. We are happy to do just all the everyday things, have coffee together in the morning, read the paper, walk the dog play with the cat. He like to watch TV I like to listen to classical music . Yesterday he helped me in the yard with the leaves and cleaning Today is up in the air at this point, we had a storm last night so everything is soaked . I guess we will not be gardening today. I wasnted to transplant my rose bushes but not today , I guess we will go shopping or to the movie .
Good morning GOBs, before anything else I'm taking some of that french toast that Darius made, with the praline topping, that sounds so good!
Maria, all your blog needs is some editing by a professional, as you are telling a wonderful story. Others may have written about the pre-war and wartime years but your personal view is wonderfully detailed and interesting to read. Keep it up, it is a worthwhile endeavor. I've thought of doing that for my children and grands, as the world has gone through some unbelievable changes since my childhood. My sister is older than me and she often doesn't recall many of the events that impressed deeply on my memory.
Yes, I think Samson might nibble on a kitten, although my DD's goldens coexist nicely with her two cats. They put the dogs in their place very quickly with a slap on the nose in their puppy stages. Even Max who was not raised with dogs, now living with Howard the golden, has no trouble adjusting to dog breath. It's too bad you are allergic, they are good companions. I'm happy to say that Sammi's litter pan skills are stellar, although I could do without the "happy dance" when he completes his deposit, as he is throwing litter far and wide in the laundry room.
I've never regarded Friday the 13th as particularly ominous, but then I'm not at all superstitious, so it is an uneventful day for me.
It looks as if we might have a little sun today. I shouldn't complain about all our gray days, in view of the long succession of rainy days out on the west coast....what a terrible winter we are having all over the country. Drought, fires, high winds, rain, mud slides....no more griping from me....
Dcat, funerals and other occasions where people gather, are like that, we often see people we haven't had contact with in years. When I went to my HS reunion in '03, most of the men who had been in my classes looked pretty much like what you described. Except one....the man who had been our coach and whom I dated very briefly after I graduated, who looked just as good to me as he had in '55. He aged very well. Wanna see a picture? OK Anybody disagree? LOL
Sounds as if Susan is doing pretty well, I'm sure we'll hear from her soon even if she has to use only one hand! I hope everyone else who is undergoing, recovering from, or planning surgeries will regain all their health in quick order. I still have to make an appointment for my shoulder problem which isn't getting any better in spite of my ignoring it and/or telling it to go away.
Eccchhhh, smoking. I've quit so many times, I have gained professional status. I've done everything but the hypnosis, and I don't hear many success stories about that either. I've reached the point where I figure I'm going to die of something, so I'm going out enjoying the things I do, and leave it to fate.
Souky is actually playing with Sammi this morning. He was chasing one of his new jingle bells from Auntie Elaine and it must have looked like too much fun because she joined in, with no hissing ....and they are having a great time. It's been five days, so it's about time she got over her snit about him. I'll try for another action shot but they move so fast, it's hard to keep them in the viewfinder. Things are going to get pretty crazy around here, once they start playing more .
I need to think about getting dressed, breakfast, doing the vacuuming that didn't get done yesterday, among other things. Hoping everyone has a good, pain free, rain free, happy day. And, YES, we have sunshine!! I'm worried about the trees which are trying to bud, and the poor roots of the perennials which don't do well with freeze and thaw cycles, but there's nowt to be done about it, so I'lljust enjoy the sun.
Here's my former crush....LOL I think he might have been a keeper..but that's not the way fate dealt my hand.
You're a hotty, M5.....
Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood........ somewhere! Still dark here but I can't hear the wind and the shop roof that I can see under the yard light is dry. Late this afternoon there is a winter storm warning.
Today a friend from Idaho is supposed to come up and get some plexiglas panels that we got 2nd hand or 3rd hand many years ago thinking they would make a nice greenhouse. We bought a greenhouse kit instead and now the panels are going home with somebody else for their greenhouse project. At one time they were school windows in California in a rough neighborhood, put in to prevent breakage. Then the fire marshall decided they would give off toxic fumes in a fire and they were taken out and replaced with glass. Heck, would the students still be in the building if there was a fire? Duh. Anyhow they were destined for the dump, went to somebody's garage instead, and then somebody else gave them to us. I hope my friend can get here today. Since it hasn't been freezing for a couple of days we plan to try to dig up some of my volunteer Russian Sage and send them home with her. She is going to give me a yucca for my new flower bed, but didn't say if she was going to bring it.
Ann, a 6 pound bell, wow, I didn't know they came that large. It sounds like you will be plenty busy after you give up the FC job.
Meezer, great that Souky is playing with your kitten. My older cat has just watched the kitten play but has not decided to get involved. I don't remember her playing much when she was a kitten. She was quite small and just showed up here on a very wintery stormy day, hungry, lost, scared, poor thing. It took me about 3 days to get her to come to me, even with food, because another of my cats chased her away every time she came out of hiding. He made her life miserable for a couple of years until she got grown and confident, and then it was payback time until he got old and sick and she ignored him. We brought her into the house as much as possible but I just don't remember that she played much.
We also have noticed that people we haven't seen in many years turn up at funerals and weddings. I remember meeting an old boyfriend whom I had not seen in 37 years. My oh my, no upper teeth! He also turned out to be just what I had decided he would be, an alcoholic. No thanks. Talk about being thankful that I didn't marry him! He was good looking but that was all he had going for him. When he was a teenager he said he couldn't wait to go to the bar legally, and his dad was one of those guys who hit the bar on payday and drank up most of his paycheck and didn't come home for 2 or 3 days. Often a son will follow his dad's example and I could see the warning signs. This kid would drive his mom around (she didn't drive) looking in all the bars for his dad. Of course they never found him. History repeats itself, his wife also spent a lot of time looking for him when she wasn't hitting the bottle herself and he was looking for her. Are we having fun yet? What a mess.
I'd better get myself moving.
Is DG slow changing forum, etc. or is my computer dying?
Good Morning everybody. I have been up for ages, reading the paper and drinking coffee. Did a load of laundry, and straightened the house. Laid out some steaks for tonight's supper, and going to make a meat loaf for tomorrow's dinner. Went to valueseed.com website and ordered some seed for a fellow DGer, from Canada. Mr B upchucked on the hallway carpet about 1/2 hour ago, don't know what's up with that. But it sure was pleasant dealing with that after just finishing my breakfast. DH called a while ago, he is on his way to the airport for his flight home. He will arrive in Louisville at 5:00. So life returns to it's routine.
Meezer, how did I know that you were a red head? Or auburn? You sure do look good, the coach ain't bad either. You seem to me to be the "cheerleader type", were you a cheerleader in high school? By the association with the coach, it would make sense. I chuckle every time you tell us about Sammi playing. I have a mental image of this ball of fur tearing around the house at full tilt.
Mary, my part persian Miss Boots, was a very staid kind of kitten. don't remember her playing much, she has plenty of toys, but would rather swat things from the kitchen island, and explore paper bags and boxes instead of the toys. They all have different personalities.
Mary, you were very perceptive at a young age. I don't think that any of the guys I dated ever got that thorough critique from me. It was looks, what kind of car, was he fun, did we go to interesting places, etc. Never gave the family a thought, so I guess I escaped the bullet by walking into a relationship blind, just content to take what I got!!
Well, got to get it in gear. Since DH is not here I am heading out to feed the horses and the hunting dogs. Snowed here last night, so have put off going outside long enough. The horses are standing in the pasture by the house looking longingly at the house, so I think that means they are hungry. Poor babies.
Will check in later, as critters call.
Happy, it is better than yesterday. It is taking a while, but is better. Have you deleted your cookies to try to speed things up?
Morning all
Brrrr what happened to the weather? This is certainly crazy one this year, but I won't complain either since we don't have the horrid conditions faced by others in the country.
Hap, so far, I'm not having problems this morning. Yesterday was terrible, though. I got agravated and it gave me an excuse to get something done. LOL
Meezers, so glad Sammy likes his kitty toys. Am glad the others are beginning to join in the fun, now. I was hoping a toy would help break the ice. Usually, when there's a new toy around ... and it's being played with by the "new kid on the block" it makes him look a lot more welcoming. :)
Okay, one, two, three ... line up. We're going to Molly's for some of Darius's cooking. I really wanted some of that breakfast this morning. I put grits in the crockpot for us and put it on low instead of hi, so they weren't done when we got up. Looks like we'll be having grits for lunch. LOL LOL
Okay, got to get in gear. Catch y'all later.
... Elaine
Good Morning (almost afternoon tho!) I've been up for hours, but didn't get time to post here. I've not had any trouble posting today or yesterday. Must just be luck on my part tho!!
Talked to my sister for 2 hrs long distance today - we sure have a good time laughing etc.
DGS is over for a bit- his folks wanted to go shopping, but he absolutely hates shopping so he comes here. He made some cookies in the toaster oven (those kind you keep in the freezer and break apart) They work slick for kids to do. Now he's making some kind of bead thing - he loves crafts.
Speaking of old boyfriends - man am I glad I didn't end up with two of mine. One is a panhandler downtown - he came from a fine upstanding family and I thought he was the cats meow--I saw his picture in the paper a couple of years ago. So sad. The other went to Nam and came home addicted to drugs. He's been in and out of rehabs (and was our class president in high school) I'll stick with the one I have - even tho he doesn't like to do things - a real homebody!! I never went back to any high school reunions. When I went to high school it was when desegregation was going on. We were the token 18 students from a farm community bused into the city. High School years were not pleasant- the school was very rough- fights all the time. I was glad when it was all over and I could go on to college. I see one friend from those times....
I have nothing wild and fun planned today. I do need to go into Kohl's and return a pair of pants (I bought three of the same jeans and why did I get them??) I have a zillion already. So I'm returning the two I didn't wear.
I'm still awaiting my Parks seed catalog- I can't figure out why I don't get them sooner!! Woke up to snow on the ground, but it has already melted off the cement areas. Just cloudy and gloomy - DH said the wind was biting, so guess I won't be wandering around in the gardens today.
hey defoe - I was a cheerleader...if I get down on the floor now, I can hardly get back up!! How times change!!
Gotta go - we got a 20% off coupon from harbor freight and DH is chaffing at the bit to use it - I thought we should get another greenhouse (that went over like a lead balloon)
Hi, everyone! We are just back from picking up my freezer from AmaryllisGal's. Not too cold temp wise, but the wind is fierce and cuts right through you.
Sure wish I had taken a photo of the baked french toast with the praline topping. It looked as wonderful and decadent as it tasted!
BBL
Oh Sarv, getting down on the floor, whatever for? A couple of years ago, I was in Kmart, buying 1/2 price christmas ornaments, (day after Christmas). squatted down to look on the bottom shelf, and when I was ready to get back up, couldn't. I started laughing hysterically, as I could just see the paramedics summoned by a cell phone call to help lady from the floor. Thankfully not many people around, but that must have been a funny sight. I was a cheerleader for 4 years in high school, and could bend my body 79 different ways to sunday. Heck if I tried that now, I would end up in traction. LOL
Well, have been out to feed all the animals, and the barks and whinnies let me know I was thanked. The horses go in and out of the barn, but seem to do fine out in the pasture. If I was them, I would opt to stay in the barn this kind of weather. We had some snow last night, and the wind is really blowing, the kind that just cuts through you.
So I am going to make a meat loaf now, fold the laundry, and snuggle up with an afghan and read, until I get drowsy, then a little nap sounds great.
Darius, glad you got your freezer home. Now you can buy the sale stuff and stock up. The compost bin looks nice. I am starting one later in the spring. DH used all the kitchen garbage to feed his earth worms last year, don't know if he is planning to do it again this year or not. But with the price of fishing bait, and with him fishing every day, it would save a lot of $$
BBL
Hi All,
Have the day to myself today,,,yipeee,,Bill went up to Eagle River for the snowmoblie races so I don't expect him home until very late. May even enjoy a litle snap (snooze/nap)this afternoon. Got a movie that he wouldn't want to watch so will be a wonderfully lazy day!!!!!!!
Haven't been posting much,,,been busy working on my data base,,,LOL Oy Vey,,,what Did I get myself started with????? Why do I do This to myself???? Glutton, Sadist, Anal ????? Yep,,,all three.
Well, hope everyone is fairing well,,,I'll pop in later.
Kelly
Got busy, showered dressed made breakfast. Too small a load to run the dishwasher, so I made some biscotti to make more dirty dishes! It going through it's first bake now.
Wow, thanks Hap, I don't think I'm a hottie, just maybe well done ...LOL Thanks for the compliment though. I only keep the flattering pictures, ones that don't show my double chin and wrinkles....! And the color, referred to as red by Dcat, comes straight out of a bottle. Not sure I know what color my hair is for real! Except about half gray, not the nice whitish kind, the yucky kind. Ahhh, vanity.
MaryE, some kitties just don't play. Oskar was an acrobat when he was young, fetching paper wads, etc. until we got Mini and then he suddenly became very dignified and proper. Go figure. Souky has never been playful, we got her when she was already grown, and she was always shy around the other cats and didn't bond with any except Oskar. She would only nap with him occasionally . When DS moved home with Max,while rehabbing his house, Max was very playful and mischievous, but entertained himself. He couldn't entice her to play either. But, now, the ice is broken, I'm sure due to Sammi's wonderful collection of new toys...they were too hard to resist! I'm hoping it continues so she and Sammi don't get fat and lazy like Mini. Who is still hissing.
My first major crush in HS turned out to be the town drunk, and I believe he passed away some time back. He was very good looking, but started drinking at an early age. Good thing we don't always get what we wish for, isn't it? One of the other fellows who was a real goofoff and barely made it through school, is now a pillar of the community, runs the volunteer fire dept, and several other community organizations...although he is still kind of dopey.
Dcat, cheerleading? Me? No, I had rotten knees even then. I just mooned over the coach from afar, (well, as far as you can get in a HS with a total enrollment of 200 kids) but my dad and he were both teachers at that school, so I saw him a lot. No thoughts of dating crossed my mind, I'm sure my dad would have gotten out his shotgun at the very thought. Or sent me off to a convent or something. I wasn't even allowed to date except for the prom and an occasional walk home after a basketball game. the boys were all scared to death of my dad. Certainly put a damper on my social opportunities.
The coach lived near where my birth mother lived, and we got together when I went to visit her after I had moved away from home and started working in Milwaukee. I don't know that I would have liked the life he chose; after teaching he joined the MI state troopers, and then went to Alaska for a different job, eventually he ended up teaching again, but always in small towns. I wanted to be a City Girl! I still like the cultural aspects of a large city, but it's nice to have it at a reasonable distance.
Souky and Sammi played for a long time this morning, so much so that they are both exhausted. Sammi is sleeping on DH who must be exhausted too, but I'm sure I don't know what from.
Sarv, and Dcat, if I get down on the floor, I make sure there is something nearby that I can use to hoist myself up again, or I will be there until someone shows up with a crane. thaks for the warning, I won't ever do it in a store !! Once I had to crawl over to the kitchen snack bar to haul myself up....and was grateful that nobody was around to see it! Sarv, while you're out cruising Harbor Freight you should take a side trip and see if that piece of furniture you were drooling over last fall is on sale! Or did you buy it then? January clearances are so much fun. I still have a LNT gift certificate to use. Oooo and that fat $100 one that DH got from work. (He hasn't had a raise in 5 years, so this little token was a treat!) He gave it to me because I shopped and bought all the family gifts for Christmas.
I01, I'm dipping into that jar of Vidalia relish, it may never make it to the table. It's yummy. Even better followed by choc. covered pecans. This is my 2006 diet plan. Is there much that Chocolate can't remedy??
GG, snowmobile races? Stand out in the cold and watch vehicles? Ewwwwww much better to have a day to read, nap, etc. Good choice!!
Oven dinging. duty calls. TTYL

Sheila,
That is my thinking also,,,went to one race with him a couple of years ago,,,,knew I wouldn't enjoy watching the race,,,but HAD to get out of the house!!!!! How much fun is it to watch sleds go around an oval?????? Anyway,,,,it was a COLD day and I spent more time in the warming tent where they had beer, pop, Rick's Hard Lemonade and food,,,wish they would have had Hot Chocolate with Buttershots in it,,,,now That would have kept me warm,,,LOL But, had to make do with Hard Lemonade.
The warming tent wasn't even that warm,,,but better than standing outside.
Much rather be in my not so warm house,,,,only keep it at 68,,,but there's always an afghan!
Kelly
GG, I'm coming to your house the next time I decide to go north....My boys keep their houses about 59....They turn it up for me.......to 61.....
I about freeze....no I do freeze...UGH
Hap
Okay, couldn't stand it any longer. Got the DH in here and we've been looking at pics. Ooooh, love Sammy and your red hair, Sheila. Believe it or not ... my Mom's a red head, and I went wild and crazy a while back and did the redish thing. It was fun for a while, but I'm back to my true brown. Well, only my hair dresser knows for sure! LOL LOL
... elaine
Hap,
Oh, my,,,,that is cold,,,,can you see your breath when you go over there??? LOL
I would try to turn it down another couple of degrees (you can always put more on) but my customers are cold now with wet heads in the Salon,,,imagine the temp lower??? LOL they'd have icicles hanging off their heads. In the Salon I can turn on both dryers and it warms it up pretty quickly in there.
Bill thinks I should have it at 70,,,but after the gas bill last month ($200), he has conceded to put a sweatshirt on. And an afghan.
Kelly
MaryE - our biggest bell is a Malmark bronze F3. They come bigger and heavier. This site has an interesting comparison of the weights of the most popular types of bells -
http://www.ling.upenn.edu/~kingsbur/bellsweights.html
For you cheerleader types, that's one thing I NEVER was. Badly co-orinated then AND now. One of the world's wonders how I ever learned to co-ordinate my finers around a stringed instrument. I guess maybe that's small muscles instead of large ones. LOL
I've not had trouble with DG being slow today - just yesterday morning.
Weather here was raining hard this morning turning cold and freezing. Snowing just a bit now, but some snow is expected. Have an orchestra rehearsal in just over an hour. Benefit of the change of concert date is that the National Arts Centre happened to be free this ENTIRE weekend. We usually have Sunday rehearsals on stage, but this time we have Saturday rehearsal on stage as well. The more time we get on stage, the better the sound can be balanced in the hall. (Usually we are shunted off to a badly lighted church hall or the stage of a technical high school for the Saturday rehearsal. There are not many places in town which will accommodate a 90-100 piece orchestra.) And the other benefit is indoor parking. Of course we have to pay and some of the other sites have on street parking or a parking lot, but most of us have staff access cards to the NAC parking garage which give a reduced cost for parking.
Guess I should get away from the computer and prepare to leave for the rehearsal.
Ann
Afternoon Gobs and 'Ettes!
I'm going to be away from the computer for much of the next week or so, there are somethings I have been putting off and I can't get away with that much longer. I will try to pop in once in a while and I will definately make the chats, but I don't send out the search teams if I go a few days without posting, ok?
Love and huggles to all!
mg
mg,
Hope to see you posting again soon,,,maybe will try to catch you in chat. Get done whatever it is that needs doing.
Luv and hugs to you too.
Kelly
We should all do that and clean our houses and then we can return to some level of sloth afterwards, except of course VAnn, who makes us all look like hibernating bears!
GG
Turning on hair dryers is more expensive than turning up the heat a couple of degrees.. Turning it up warms the walls and eventually you won't need that much more fuel to keep it at that temp.
Hap
Home from work. Should get some clothes going in the near future. Hey, did u guys see that thread about the dryer balls? I'd seen them advertised but figured they were a gimmik - apparently they work and help cut down on dryer fires too. Interesting! http://davesgarden.com/place/t/567794/
To those who were asking, lost Mom at 70, in Nov. 2000, to rheumatoid arthritis and Dad at 76, in Nov. 2004, to multiple myeloma. And FIL at 79, in Nov. of '97, to IPF(idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - same condition coal miners get, typically caused by hay mould in farmers). The kids keep telling us we have to watch MIL like a hawk every Nov. Rather odd - that nose-bleed episode she had last fall when she passed out and quit breathing was on Nov. 4. Guess we're ok now till next Nov. :)
M5- love those kitties!
Hi to everyone, too many to comment on but enjoy all the reading. :)
Well, I spent the afternoon, not reading and not napping, but opening the mail which I have neglected over the past few days. There was nothing exciting, all bills, bills, bills. They were ours, DM and DMIL's. We are both POA for the moms, and guess who pays all the bills. From the looks of this stack, it will take most of a day to get it done. DH's contribution to helping pay the bills, is to sign his mother's checks. Now ain't that a big help? I think accounting 101 classes will begin on Monday for DH!! My major was accounting, so I am well qualified to teach. When you hear the sighs, groans and screams the first of the week, don't call 911, just know that it is DH as I stand over him with the 2x4.
VA, that was an interesting site about the bells. If you lack large muscle coordination to be a cheerleader, I wish I had your small muscle coordination to be able to play a musical instrument.
Meezer, I had to snicker about you having to crawl over to be able to get up off the floor. Wasn't making fun, but I know the feeling. Wish I had a playful kitty, dignified Miss Boots, just naps most of the time. She is 7 years old and never a playful kitten either.
Well, DH just called, he just stepped off the plane, and will be here in about an hour, so going to pop some potatos in the oven, and ready the steak for the grill. Must not have been a good flight, as he was sort of grouchy sounding.
Well I will be back later.
Great shot Darius, that's my girls!!!
I'm keeping it short, gotta check on the thawing snapper.
Molly
Hey Molly,,,,what's this with the cooking? Good for you.
Am I the only one having trouble with DG again today? I have deteted cookies, etc. but it's still slow.
Ooooh, let me bore you with what I found at WM. I got a cheapy shelf unit for all my little plants. It was *only* $10. I am going to start my seeds out in the washroom as it's plenty warm in there, and the DH has mounted me a light over the dryer. Let's just hope they don't end up swimming in the wash. LOL I've never started any plants from seeds, so y'all will just have to zcuse me. I'm very excited bout this. :)
Ann, I enjoyed reading over on the link you posted. I had no idea those bells were so heavy either. That is so very intresting.
Kooger, am sorry about your parents. I'm so lucky to still have both sets of mine. (my DIL's)as well as my own. My Dad was just diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, but has not yet been suffering any ill affects from it yet. Mom has quite a lot of back problems ... but all in all they are healthy for their age.
I had never heard of those dryer balls, although we do wash the lint filter. I think I'm going to try using some vinegar in the wash like Terry said she did, also. I haven't heard of that either.
Defoe, hope your DH arrives safe and in a good humer ... glad to be home. I imagine once he's had a good night's sleep in his own bed and had some of your cooking he'll be in a better frame of mind. :)
MG
You'll be missed for sure, but know how it is to have things that need to be done. LOL DG can sure become an obcession. After the week-end, I may have to do a disappearing act also.
Well, back to the kitchen. You know ... a woman's work is never done. LOL LOL
... Elaine
Hi to Darius, Molly and Hap. I'm slow and posted at the same time as y'all. :)
101 your not the only one. I think when they opened up these new things and set up they messed up the server a little bit. but i am not sure. It is going to take them some time to work those bugs out. Mine has been slow to and it is almost brand new.
OZ, thanks......I thought I was going to have to go to the dump with mine.
Hap
M5 - the only reason my house is clean (sort of) at the moment is the major party I had last week. Don't forget, when I retire, the cleaning lady goes too. It's back to do-it-myself!
I should have told you that the site with the bell weights lists more bells than we have. We have a 4 octave set which goes from G3 to G7. And we bought on note lower than that; so we have an F3 as well. We didn't buy the case that holds the big bass bells, but keep that one in a 5 gallon wine concentrate bucket. Since it's a United Church (of Canada - an amalgation of Methodist, Congregational and some Presbyterian some 80 years ago), the wine concentrate bucket raises a few eyebrows from time to time. LOL
Dryer ball. I thought that I'd heard of them, but they sure are different looking than what I thought. Must have been something else. I DO sometimes use vinegar and know it helps. I also believe that something about a gas dryer reduces static which is really the only reason I use anything in the dryer. I don't have a gas dryer yet, but we put a connection in the gas line for one when we added the kitchen 14 years ago. Trouble is my 1970 vintage electic dryer just keeps going and going. I bought a new washer maybe 4 years ago and when I saw the amount of yucky build-up from liquid fabric softener, I quit using it entirely. I DO use dryer sheets, but I cut them into smaller pieces; so don't use as many. (Do you remember when you could easily tear them into smaller strips? I reckon the manufacturers realized that people were doing that and changed the fibre so that it doesn't tear easily now. You have to take a pair of scissors to them. I do it while watching TV. Then I cut a slit in them and hang them on a hook near my dryer.)
Rehearsal went OK. There sure are a few spots I need to look at before the rehearsals tomorrow.
I forgot you people in the US have a holiday this weekend. And you get another in February don't you? We don't get ANY until Good Friday which is a stat holiday and Easter Monday which is a quasi holiday - government and schools are closed. Banks are open. Go figure.
Ann
Hap,
Thanks for the info,,,,
Ann, we do not get a holiday in February. That one was taken when this holiday was given to us. At least that's the way it works for my DH.
Well, I'm through in the kitchen. We had beef burgundy and spinach with apple salad. There's enough beef burgundy for us to have after church tomorrow. I'll just put it over in the chrock pot before leaving. Then it will be ready when we come in.
Ann, bet that does raise some eyebrows. LOL Tooo funny!
I have never even thought about cutting the fabric softener sheets. What a wonderful idea. Just another reason why I love sharing with everyone here on DG.
101 don't know what beef burgundy is but is sounds delicious, what's in it?
I laughed about the bells being stored in a wine bucket. Bet that does raise some eyebrows. Ever been asked if you just finished the wine?
MG in order to bring order to the pile of bills, may have to take at least a day off too.
What's with the vinegar in the wash? What does that do?
I've seen those dryer balls advertised in magazines like Carol Wright, never used them though. Talking about laundry, do you all remember when all the rage was polyster for men's pants? And the leisure suits. Well, one day DH came home from work, and deposited 2 nylon socks on the counter. He was furious, he said all day that he had felt something in one leg and the seat of his pants. He went into the restroom and practically undressed and found those socks clinging to his pants. So have always since then used some sort of fabric softner in the wash or the dryer.
Darius, did you make the doggie ice cream, or is a purchased treat? Good pic.
I haven't had any problems with the computer being slow today, just Thursday.
VA, in Kentucky, and since I worked in state government, we celebrated birthdays galore. At one time I think that we had 18 holidays a year. We celebrated Robert E. Lee's birthday, Lincoln's Washington's, 2 days for thanksgiving, 2 for Christmas, 2 for new years 1/2 day good friday, memorial day, labor day, Independence Day, and on and on. I know that's not 18, but can't remember the others. Heck maybe Ground Hog Day, no just joking. That is your hard earned tax dollars at work. But I was on the receiving end, and I thought it was great.
DH wasn't in a bad mood, just tired. He is sitting in his recliner watching a stinking football game. I had supper all ready when he came in, that made him in a better mood, to get home cooked food.
Has Maria posted today? I don't remember seeing anything. Hope she is okay. Hello Maria, please check in. Any more news on kittymom?
Well going to check out a few more forums, but I will be back.
