I bought a couple of bags of strawberry plants at HomeDepot and they have long long roots...In the planting instructions it doesn't mention trimming them but seems to me like it should be done..Does anyone know the answer to my quandry...to trim or not to trim...some of these roots are 8 or 10 inches long...and some as little as two or 4...
Strawberry plants
Hey there. Those long roots are next years plants. They are called runners and the are planted very shallow. If you remove them you will have no strawberries at all. Jessamine
I trimmed my roots to 4 or 5 inches.......per instructions.
http://muextension.missouri.edu/explore/agguides/hort/g06135.htm contains pretty fair planting and cultivating instructions.
