Here's the daily continued from here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/565906/

Morning All,
Hope everyone has a great day,
Kelly

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hey, I forgot to mention that I had a friend once who said "I'd get my jaws wired shut, but I could suck a Big mac through a straw". And she was right she probably could have done it. This is for all of those who are on diets, comtemplating diets, or just said what the heck with diets!!

Night all.

(Zone 8b)

Popped in real quick to say Maria I would suggest you get a vet or a pro to cut his nails. He looks as though he will have black nails and that makes it very difficult to see the quick. If you catch that there will be blood everywhere, and a very sore footed dog. Once you catch a quick it will be a nightmare to cut the nails again.
I am, or was a pro at dog grooming, and I hated doing black nails!! Even with years of experience I very occasionally got it wrong too, and then you feel awful - like an assasin - even when it isn't your dog!

Carol
The Odd One

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thank you, Carol, I will not do it , will have it done very soon.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

My cat needs her nails clipped. I always did our former cats, but his one yeowls when I try it and I am afraid of being major scratched. I once tried to put her in an upside down laundry basket and take one paw out thru a hole and did it, but it was a disaster. Drat, I just hate to take her to the vets to get that done!!

GG - hopped on the scale and am down 1/2 lb - big deal, but it's headed down....... My friend gave me a 'three day diet' guaranteed to jump start your diet. I am going to try it next week. Or maybe this weekend - can't decide. It isn't hard and the food sounds human. I do better when I have plan!!

Nothing big planned here today - just the work out place at 9:30. And somehow the house is trashed again, so I need to tackle that.

Fourteenth day with no sun....maybe this weekend they are saying. I am going to take a garden walk today and see how my hellebores are doing.

I think cleaning someone elses house would be great fun. Actually, I loved it when my mom would come out and say ' let's tackle the kitchen' - we would laugh and laugh and she was an awesome cleaner. Now she is getting so old that she can't clean anymore - and when I visit her, I want to pick up a cleaning cloth - I don't think she is seeing as well as she used to.

Well, time for some yogurt!!

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

WOW WOW...............the SUN is SHINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First time here in over 13 days!!!!!

How beautiful it looks.......of course supposed to be snow this afternoon.

Nail clippers??????? Huh...thought that was what furniture was for hahaha.

Wonderful day to all hope you TOO get some sun.

--Joy

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Joyous, how nice to see the sun. We have freezing rain mixed with snow (or snow mixed with freezing rain) and it's supposed to continue most of the day.

Skipped aquafit today. A neighbour returned a phone call just before I was ready to go. sounds like a good reason to me. They are still on holiday hours with holiday instructors. Would normally never miss on a Thursday because the instructor is a real hoot. I NEVER watch the clock in her class. Guess I'll go tomorrow as I was planning to skip the FC anyway. Have last minute party prep to do. Today I have some shopping for veggies and things that I couldn't get ahead. Made a big batch of hummous this morning.

Yesterday, I got working on ice rings for my punch bowls. They look really pretty and have lemon and orange slices, marachino cherries and mint leaves embedded in them. And keep the punch cold really well. But I'm still fighting a porch that doesn't really want to be a freezer. Ended up sinking one of those rings into my chest freezer this morning, but I have space only for one at a time.

Also accompanied DH to his appointment with the radiation oncologist yesterday. He has a follow-up appointment with the urologist in about 2 weeks and will decide on the course of action for the prostrate cancer. He's in a low risk category; so it's mostly making the decision of what treatment he opts for. Three basic treatments and all have success rates about 90%.

I didn't post yesterday, but read all the messages. Didn't quite know what to say when I read Woofens message about her children's medical condition. I, like most of you, had never heard of the condition. I guess probably all I can do is say that I'll be here to listen when she needs to unload and certainly keep them in my prayers.

Well, I guess I should get moving. I do have a number of things to do today.

Ann

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

V.Ann......the sun only lasted 10 minutes but it sure was good!!!
Much success to you with your party. Pictures and details after you rest a little. ;-)

Off to visit dad, feed momma and work on church schedule for the year, Pastor's wife and I are co-directors (means we have a little more time than others for planning and driving each other nuts!!! But so much fun).

((((Woof and children)))) others with those nasty winter cold symptoms get the Vicks out maybe we can be their test group!!

Enjoy....Joy

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. Looks like it's gonna be a nice day. I took the dog out for his morning potty session and got chilly standing there in my robe and slippers while he decided where the right spot was.

AmandaPanda (kitten) is playing with a piece of dry dogfood, scooting it all over the kitchen. Last night I gave her a walnut in the shell and that was a great bit of entertainment for a few minutes.

Dcat, has that guy been caught or are you still locked in? With dogs hunting for him it probably ended quickly unless he managed to get back to a road and hitch a ride. Another good reason not to be picking up hitch hikers. I know, there are times when it's ok, but it is so hard to tell good from bad that I will never do it. Guys are more likely to take the chance, but these days it is just not a very good idea for anybody to do.

Time for me to get dressed, get the fire built in the woodstove, feed horses, do some laundry, etc. When it warms up a little I'll take the dog for a long walk and see if I can wear him out. That's not likely with a terrier but we both need the exercise. Sounds like a fun day.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

We are officially on our 14th day without sun. Pretty dismal out there. Not opening the curtains either. Feel like either packing my bag and heading for the airport or ..turning up the heat, sprinkling the bathroom floor with salt, filling the jacuzzi and pretending I'm in Freeport!

Picked up fabric yesterday to cover a big pillow, wanted 24", I got 23 1/4" on one end and 25" on the other, they must have figured it would average out. Used it anyway. Pillow is well stuffed!

Maybe I'll check the movie schedule and see what's worth $3.25.

Sarv, have you ever tried wrapping Kitty in a big bath towel like a mummy, and then doing one paw at a time. I have special little scissors I used for Max, they have a little curve cut in them where you place the claw. If you try that a couple of times, she might figure out you aren't trying to amputate her paw. Since she goes outside that should wear off the sharp ends, but not always.

Got to get dressed. see ya later

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

d-cat, looked at Samson's nails, the top part is white about 4 mm, kind of long , yes? the rest is black

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone.
I have three kitties that get nail clipping. Ashamed to say three others are declawed. Was a long time ago, and I wouldn't do it again. So don't jump on me. LOL

I have been clipping them since they were kittens, so they are very good about it. Of course, DH holds them and I clip and it works great. Don't know how it would be if I had to do it by myself.

I have my preop doctor visit today, and will get the details on the Friday 13th festivities. LOL

I have been reading everything, but I just don't take the time to post. Sorry.

I think about everybody and pray for all the problems and worries.

We have sun everyday, don't get me wrong, I love the sun, but want some rain so bad, I could put up with a few days of clouds if they would actually rain out of them and not just be gloomy. I can't stand gloomy.

Better get busy, I need to water my plants and get some laundry started. Oh, and I am STILL getting Christmas decorations down. I HOPE I will have that done before the 13th.

Have a great day!
Susan
=^..^=

Well, I had such a nice post and turned around and hit the wrong key and poof ... off into space it went. I'm not *even* going to try to start over. LOL I will say ...

Susan am praying things go well with your surgery. Wish I were closer and I'd pop over and help with those furbabies!

Ann, sounds like you're getting down to the wire now with the party preparations. Sounds wonderful. Am continuing to have your DH in my thoughts and prayers, also, as he makes decisions about his treatment options.

If I could, I'd bottle some sun and send it to those who need it ... but didn't do a very good job with the rain. So I'll just continue to pray your needs are met. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Maria, I'm gonna jump in here too as a groomer, ok? Find a groomer. You will want him bathed and blown out this spring anyway when he blows his winter coat. This way, you can get him used to a groomer and the car trips too. I really don't recommend you try to trim his nails the first time by yourself for several reasons. First of all, you could quick him and he won't trust you again. Second, most dogs play tug with their paws when you are trying to clip nails and he is stronger than you. Third, you don't know how he will react, some dogs are so paranoid about their feet the only safe way to clip nails is with them muzzled or you get bit. Think about that, to see where you need to clip your face has to be pretty close to them which also puts your face close to his mouth. Or if you hurt him, he may bite out of fear. I could take a pic of my hands and show you how often I got bit by nice dogs that freaked out.

Some vets have a groomer that works for them, some groomers have mobile trucks. Or get your trainer to work with him again about getting in and out of the car. My cent and a half on that.

Sheila, we had a new movie place open up here this summer. Now the oldest one in town (at the mall) has all shows at $1.50. All second or third run movies, but very cheap, lol.

Ack, I can't remember what else I wanted to say, and now I have to get to the store!

I'll be back later on to try again.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good Afternoon all. Had a busy morning. Sort of picked up the house, made a cherry cobbler for church supper tonight, (stay away from it please), went to Walmart and bought a new 27" tv. That was spur of the moment. Stopped by DM's and took her blood pressure, it is still high. Took it again when I got back from walmart, and it was higher still, so going to wait until tonight and if it is still up call the DR. DS went with me this morning I used his muscle to lift the tv off the shelf, and into the car. He hooked it up for me, while I cleaned behind the entertainment center. I don't move that often, as there is danger of pulling wires loose, so it sure was a mess.

The criminal is caught, so not on lock down any more. Don't know what the original crime was, but for sure fleeing now.

DMIL developed fluid on her lungs and is now back in intensive care. DH is on the way to the hospital now.

Well, I have a few more things to do, fold laundry and get a shower to be at church by 6:00.

I will check back in tonight.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

D-Cat....sorry about your MIL.....

We are in a terrible position. We still have to take care of our kids and now we have to take care of our parents too. Who takes care of us? Lord, give us strength.....

Hap

First let me say ... Defoe, so sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope she gets along okay.

Maria, you've gotten sound advice from MG. I was never advocating doing doggie nails ... only bragging on my girl for being patient with her Mama. She, too, goes to the vet for complete groomings. I only tip them off ... and only now that she's old enough to trust me. Never did it when she was young and roudy. She likes to do the "tug thing" with them ... but now I just say in a stern voice "no, hold still" and she knows to hold still. I did make her bleed one time, and it hurt me *far* worse than it hurt her. LOL

Speaking of feet ... Mary, did your horse's hoof finally heal okay?

Oops, there's the doorbell.
... elaine

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

MG and Okus, I will nor cut is nails, he is very hyper as it is, just can see myself on the floor again.

So sorry about you MIL, Defoe, hope she will get help soon.

We have miserable weather too, not too cold, just very cloudy and wet without rain.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Hi all,,,,

Sometimes when my screen saver goes on and then I move the mouse to get it off,,,the browser I'm working in goes poof,,,,Well, my nice post that I was working on just went poof,,,,,

So,
Maria,
It's smart of you to leave Samson's pedicure to someone else,,,,especially if his nails are mostly black and he's hyper.

sarv,
Awesome,,,,I know, we want the scale to say 20#,,,but at least it's going down!

Anne,
What time shall we all plan on being at your soiree? We can come early to help if you need us,,,,LOL Glad to hear good newa about DH. Great

Joy,
That 10 min. must have seemed like Heavan.

Mary,
Sounds like AmandaPanda liked her *toy* if even for a little while.

M5,
Here too,,,I think we're on day 15 or 16,,,grrrrrr,,,Hop the plane,,,won't have the clean up then,,,,,LOL

Susan,
I'm thinking of you! Hope all the pre-op goes well and the surgery too. Gosh I'm praying for rain for you,,,,

Elaine,
Same here,,,mine went poof,,,HATE that,,,,Hope you are having a good day.

mg,
$1.50 for a movie,,,that's great,,,even if you have seen them before,,,still nice to get out of the house.

dcat,
Glad you aren't on lock down anymore,,,,kinda scary. Bet your new TV is nice,,,good for you! So sorry to hear of MIL's problems. Will say a prayer.

Hap,
You got that right,,,I'm not having to take care of my Mom yet,,,but my Gran lives just down the street from me and she's got my Aunt and me jumping all the time. She's 85 and I'm blessed to still have her here so when she calls, I go running....

Hope I haven't missed anyone,,,was able to take a little time in here this afternoon, so wanted to take advantage of it.

Well, have a customer again at 3:00 and then 3:30 so unless the phone rings will be done early today,,,,will get some stuff done around the house,,,,it needs a mother!!!!

Have NO idea what to do for dinner tonight. gggrrrr, Hate cooking!!!

Well, hope everyone has a good afternoon,
See Ya Later,
Kelly

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Dcat, so so sorry to hear about your MIL. That fluid (pneno sp?) is the worst for old folks when in the hospital. I know, that happened to my mother after her heart attack. Recovering from the heart attack was fine, but the fluid was the worst. So hope they get her on some good antib. and get her moving around too.
Oh, you won't share at least one piece of that cherry cobbler??? It sounds good tho, hehe.
Mg, glad to see you around again. Was wondering where you have been lately. You don't post much here anymore.
As for the sun, it peeked thru yesterday for a bit and on Tues. too. But nothing today. Just dark and gloomy but NO RAIN tho.
Mary, am glad to hear you have some sun over the mts. That kitty sounds very happy and content with you.
As for clipping any animals nails, I would let the vet do it. Much easier and they are experience on how to do it right and not damage their paws.
As for you guys in the south, wish we could bottle up our rain and you your sun and trade that, LOL.
Well, off to get some work done.
Later, Carol (DR)(the even one)

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Defoe, will they drain the fluid? Not the most pleasant of experiences, but it feels so good when it's over. Hope she is healing well.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

defoe- oh my gosh, that fluid sounds nasty...Hope they can get a handle on it quickly for her (and you!) The two times I've been in the hospital, my lungs fill up and I end up having to have all those breathing treatments - I just hate them. I am a real shallow breather which doesn't help things.

mg- we had a real cheapie movie theater, but it went out of business. I was so disappointed! Nothing was better than seeing a $2 movie! Now that I am a senior, I get in for $6. Not awful, but the extra 4$ bugs me!

M5- we must be under the same cloud cover...I am getting crankie..... Coldest day since Dec is coming here tomorrow. We're getting spoiled - I don't even wear a coat when I go out!

9kitty - I'm wishing you some rain!!!

GG- I need a new hair dooo - what's in style for a fiftish female? I have hair that seems to be thinning -hence all the nioxin shampoo stuff. Can't tell that it is working however. I have it shortish now, but am tired of the same dooo month after month. Tried growing it out for the bob look, but that looked awful!!! (old ladies with longer hair are just not for me!) Do you ever see Suze Orman on tv? I'd like a doo like hers. short on the sides and back, but longer on top. What do you think???? I need a change!

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

saev,
Without seeing a pic of you, it would be hard to say,,,,I do like Suzie Ormans hair though,,,Very nice style.

Kelly

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi guys! What is good to eat around here today? LOL I brought some donuts, Krispy Cremes. Stick 'em in the microwave for 8 seconds... almost as good as fresh :)

Went to the orthopedic DR this Am. MRI shows nothing. So Tuesday I get to have another MRI on my shoulder. I wish they would figure out what is wrong and fix it. Had physical therqapy today too, didn't hurt bad until they were done with me LOL

As for the condition the kids have, the full name is Arnold Chiari Malformation (key-R-ee) The kids have type 1. The most common type is type 2, and it is mostly associated with spina bifida. Its is and it isn't a big deal if that makes any sense at all. I don't talk about it too much, but sometimes I just have to. Tori had a really rough time after surgery in 04, and it really took a toll on my family, my faith, my relationships with everyone around, pretty much every aspect of my life. She developed bacterial meningitis after surgery, then a stomach perforation. We came very close to losing her. I was prety much alone at the hospital with her 24-7. DH came up once (due to his work scheduule and the other kids he couldn't come any more than that). My mom came up 2 or 3 times. I met a couple people that I had talked to on the internet they came to the hospital, but other than that I was alone. It was a nightmare, financially, and mentally. The thought of having to do it again is terrifying. Complications like Tori's aren't common, but now I know how bad it can be and how quickly it can go from bad to worse. If you want to know more about ACM, go to http://chiari-syringo-news.org/index.htm It is a wonderful site.

i read all the posts, and I just can't respond to all of them, I'm sorry. D-Cat, your MIL is in my prayers. Thanks to all for the prayers and stuff..... I really don't have any more patience than you all... some days I don't have enough :) We take things day by day, or hour by hour, and sometimes even minute by minute. Good prescription drugs help too LOL My orthopedic Dr told me the other day I take enough antidepressants to knock out an elephant LOL I didn't realize my doses were that high, but according to them they are. He said I shouldn't be able to walk around, let alone function. I guess that is why my GP set me up an appt for a shrink when I told him the medicine wasn't working anymore.

Well, DH just pulled in with pizza, so I'll close for now. Hugs to all, tallk soon

Janis

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Janis, what can one say? I can not even imagine only parents with simular problems could There is nothing worse in this life then ones very ill children, I am so sorry to hear this and for all your stress that over powers you even with medicine. ((((((Janis))))))

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks Maria. Really, it seems like a huge thing, and sometimes it is, but day to day we lead a pretty normal life. We have things that the kids can't do, like roller coasters and trampolines but its mostly just normal for us. I j=guess you get adjusted and what is "normal" to you would be someone elses nightmare. :)

Hugs and Love
Janis

Janis, isn't it amazing how the kids just go right on with their lives? :) You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I know what you mean, though, but you are surely an inspiration to us all. Hope your shoulder gets better soon.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Just went out of doors with Samson, I see the moon and stars are looking down on us but to my amazement I saw a satelite, or what ever it was, swishing through the sky. At first I thought it was a shooting star but it was too slow for that and to fast for a plane, it finally disappeared behind a cloud. I wonder how many of such things are traveling through our skies

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Janis,
You and your family are diffinitely in my prayers. I just perused the web site from your link. What a wealth of information.

I hope you see a great Psychiatrist who can alter your meds so you get some help with your emotional health from them. Maybe even talking about everything will give you at least some relief emotionally. I can't even imagine what your family goes through, like you said, it's *normal* for you. Still a nightmare though.

God Bless,
Kelly

How interesting,,,,,hmmmmm,

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey Everyone. Sounds like lots of troubles today, mostly health, and I'm sending my best wishes for all the problems.

Mine (lungs) seem to be improving now that I am away from that apartment on the creek in NC. BTW, got the Radon test results back, and the Radon levels are waaaaay above normal. Guess I will talk to an attorney at some point.

The good news here is that we started putting up rafters today! (Laying out rafters is my least favorite part of building because I don't do it as well as I'd like, LOL.) With some luck and good weather, we will be ready to order roofing on Monday!

Be back later...

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Well, here is the story of my day.

I decided just before I was getting ready to leave for the doctor that i would start cleaning off the bed in the computer room in case I need to use it after the surgery. It is covered with those really big plastic storage containers full of stuff I try to sell on ebay. I picked up one of them and put it in the space between the metal bookcase and other plastic storage bins. Real close fit. Felt an awful pain in my left forefinger and when I looked I had managed to mash-slice the finger right in the kuckle a nice gash almost to the bone.

Went trying to find DH, he has been outside using the chipper and he was actually up in the attic over the other garage where we store all our decorations. Yes, that is still going on too. LOL

I said Are you over here???? "Yes, I'm up here.....", "Well, I need your help, please", comes down the ladder and sees the look on my face and the bloody hand, and said "Well, what have you done to yourself now??????????"

See, how well he knows me? ROFL

We went in to clean it off, I used hydrogen peroxide and started to hyperventilate (I am odd) and he had to get me a kitchen chair so I could sit down and hold my hand over the sink to drip. Finally, got myself under control and put a bandaid on it, holding it straight. Since I was going to the orthopedic surgeon anyway figured I could have him check it out.

Made it to the doctor, he said they don't actually take care of things like that in the office, that I would need to go to the ER, but actually it didn't look that bad, there wasn't a tendon cut and he thought it would heal ok on it's own in a couple of weeks. That overlaps the surgery of course, so I will be minus use of my right arm and have a left finger sticking out. Good grief, what else can I do????

Well, I need to go start my supper, wish I could figure out what I want to fix. Still no word on Pepper's liver numbers. Wish I would just find out something.

Susan
=^..^=

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Pooor Susan, one just never knows what is going to happen the next minute! Just take care of the slice in your finger so it will not get
infected.

Darius, glad about your lungs but radon does not sound too good.

Well, I said it before and I'll say it again ... I *wish* I was closer ... I'd cook for you LOL You don't need to be doing that! Gee, so many problems today. Sure makes a body count their blessings.

Maria, we probably wouldn't *really* want to know how many things are up there in the sky monitoring what we are doing. LOL

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

darius,
Glad you had time to pop in,,,you've been so busy,,,didn't know when we'd see you. Surprise, Surprise on the Radon results huh??? (I Know it's not a surprise,,,,just being facetious) Sure am glad to hear your lungs seem to be improving. Make the lawyer sooner rather than later!!!!!! Take care of yourself and take a break once in awhile,,,LOL

Susan,
OUCH! You certainly didn't need that right before surgery. Hey,,,you'll still be able to play with us won't you?????

Kelly

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Elaine,
You're right,,,,we prolly wouldn't.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Kelly, Since the laws vary from state to state, I will probably have to get a NC attorney since the apt. is in NC. That may have to wait until I return to NC in April. Or, make a trip. Sigh.

Okay Darius ... let me be dumb here ... but is this just a winter move? Hmmm, I think I've come in the middle of something. LOL

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Elaine, this may be just a winter move, maybe not. A lot depends on getting alomg with my sister. I DO NOT want to spend the summer in HOT North Central Florida! (If things do not work out with my sister, I may just spend the whole summer travelling all over the US staying with my DG friends!
