Joy. My name and my daughter was born in Oct. Aucumn and her middle name is Joy and I never did. I was always seeing postings orders taking up to a year to get....beacasue she was sick. Now I wish I had taken a chance.
Denis said it was a large greenhouse. He said they did pretty good they sold a lot of the plants and he took what ever he could to his home in VA , several trips and plqaned on another. A few times he said at least I have a home to go to ???
When I asked him if they sold everything and he said no there must be 200 African violets left. I said wow I'll post and let people on the group know as some will want to buy they thought you had none left. And he said ph no I'm done he has a few Ebay orders to fill thats it. At least twice he said the 200 Av's would just freeze :((.I feel bad. In Febuary after he gets a rest and not so cold he will be selling and hybridizing Strep's from his home in VA. He said they tried but it just did not work out :((.There are not many Greenhouse, Vendors left so it's important to
buy from them. People like Lyon's Greenhouse says they would never sell on Ebay. Then Bluebirds and Violet Gallerys great prices and super selctions of plants ! Rob's Violet barn..and more !
Fredricks , Then D&P they had some really nice plants ! Hopefuly we will all have our boxes soon and we can progate them and share them !
Bargain Violets
Too bad! It's always a bummer when a local garden center or nursery folds. It's so tough to compete with the big box stores.
I did pick up some supermarketAV's today. I had to get some trays to put the D&P violets on when they come, and there were these beauties calling to me. I'll photograph them and make picture name tags and then chop off their flowers. I'm quite certain they have thrips (same company as the last ones) What amazes me is how great they all look despite the thrips. AND how a grower can allow the bugs - I would think their livelyhood depends on healthy plants. Other than spilled pollen (not on the ones I got - but the others had it) they look great! But since they were all in the same flat together, I'm sure they have hitchhikers!
Do any of us here live nearby and can go pick them up? I think they are in NC?
Oh how I wish someone could go get them ! Sounds like he's leaving today or real soon. In the summer I shipped donated lots of plants and pots to paint to a Salvation Army day camp where the budget was low and kids did not have much for their garden week. I shipped soil too ! From the young threw High School age enjpyed them ! There's always Socut groups, schools, Nursing homes... Salvation Army , Hospice and
place would have loved them. I wish someone lived close ??
I got my Bargain violets today !! Not exactly what I was waiting on but I'm still Happy :))
I ordered 50 Mini's/Semis, and trailers. He charged and sent me only 26 :((. Maybe thats all he had left in what I wanted or they got mixed up as he told me on the phone the other day they had 200 Av's that would just freeze and die :((
I also bought 50 2.50 white round pots for 5 cents each ! I should have ordered more but he was not even sure he had any of them left. I only ordered ten 4 " for 8 cents each I don't use large ones much and have some but for the cost I should have ordered more. So my 60 pots, and 26 plants with shipping was only $43.25 but I sure wish he had sent 50 plants :((
I started in the kitchen with a large trash bag trays...scissors.. The new pots went a soaking in the strongest bleach hot water...
As a plant was opened any flowers were cut off and all packing material went straight into the trash bag. I opened them on clean bleach plastic trays. I saw one red tiny yucky spider. But if it was not on the white tray It was so tiny I would not have seen it.
Any plants and about 4-6 of them that did not look right that I did not think I could save a leaf or two or crown went directly into the trash.
The plants that need emergency immediate help went on two trays.
There were maybe 6 plants that could wait until tomorrow. They were dry so they got a hot drink with Murphy's oil soap and lysol in their water.
Not one plant was allowed to keep their roots. Stems and roots were not up to par and I'm not about to keep ones that are not. Many had parts all yucky green on the outside and all inside yuk. They went in the trash fast. All leaves plants got washed with hot water with lysol and Mursphy oil soap and when the crowns saved were watered threw with it also. I could not save many leaves but ones that were save were soaked in Murphy oli, lysol hot water. All are potted up and in plastic boxes that are about a foot and half to 2 ft. long. 2 and half are filled ! then hubby sprayed with Mal. stuff can't spell. Box, insulations every inch or bit of packaging material was thrown away out of the house, all name tags and pots. Please don't leaves anything round to hold eggs or bugs and insects that you can only see under 3x power .
They will all leaves and crowns will live in one of the Mini greenhouses. The only thing it has not lights just gets natural light but I'm sure it's better thatn what it's been getting in its old crowded home.

Little Teddy " Can't find any info about" This plant had loads of gorgeous fresh blossoms...but the foliage was extremly pour and I mean bad. Gorgeous blossoms does not mean healthy plant..lol I was so sad never heard of it but sounds cute and pretty blossoms. I did save the tinest crown . But it's sad so it will get a lot of prayers.
All above have gone into clean bleach pots, or solo cups, new soil, and none were allowed to keep their roots or any of their soil. They just were not in good enough condition.
They will be isolated for three months ! If they make it I can share.

I'm sorry those plants didn't arrive in better shape or in greater numbers! But I think you'll end up with some lovelies... If anyone can effectively triage and rescue those plants, it's you!
If they survive, I would really love a leaf or plantlet of 'Mini Minx' -- you knew my head was going to snap around at the words "girl mini vintage!" :-)

Critter..I have persia prince *which is girl mini but not vintage*
and I have tiny limelight with is girl foliage, vintage and mini. I can put leaves down of them if you like.

Plus the three crowns I grow yesterday are good size healthy so I feel they will make it. With they washing, I did not use any roots or soil, and new pots this morning they are looking pretty good so far :))

I was surprised to see it in my box it's fairly rare and always sell high on Ebay. You don't see many people even selling it.

Little Teddy I can't find any where . The bouqet of fresh blossoms it had but all foliage was spoiled. It may have got cold sweat and got wet not sure but foliage could not be saved and the crown I saved is the tinest and not too good looking but I am hoping as it's deep royal blue with little white blossoms were breath taking :))
It sure has been fun ! I enjoy taking the plants apart and finxing them !
Oh yes my Baby Colors plant has it's first couple of fantasy blooms. It's adorable , and gorgeous ! I'm keeping it under the lights close until it has a lot of blooms then it can come out on display but I look at it each time in the plant room ! The variegation is sweet too. I have leaves down for you.

I believe the color of the tag lets you know the color of flower.
At least I HOPE so since I got about 4 with yellow tags :) and they all look like they will make it!
Lorry I have a Wonderous girl already with a few leaves down so will still have babies to share. And Mini Minx I grew a few from leaves and still have one though it's small soon I can take leaves from it. The three new crowns I got yesterday are pretty good size. I can't beleive I got it as they are pretty rare and go for a lot of money.
So if all goes well I will have 4 plants three to share and I will put leaves down and you all can put leaves down of yours.

It is dark green with lighter green center. The flowers are a lovely pink color..It is an episcia not a strep :)

Tropical Topaz is an Episcia but N. Tropicana is a Nematanthus.
N.TROPICANA - Upright growing dark green foliage. Small golden yellow pouch shaped flowers with red and gold stripes from the centers.
E. TROPICAL TOPAZ - Leaves are plain green with the typical textural surface of Colombia Orange - note quilting. Leaves are somewhat
shiny but are also lightly hirsute. Flowers are yellow
So many plants can become confusing :))
Lorry, I am right with you on loving those girl leaf minis! I'll put down some more leaves this week to make sure I'll have enough of mine to go around.... It looks like I've got at least 5 coming along for 'Peppermint Girl', 'Cloud Puff', 'Madeleine', 'Cambridge Missy', and 'Silly Girl'.
I would love a 'Persian Prince', if you get a chance to put down a leaf (I'd also take a leaf instead). Is your 'Tiny Limelight' maybe 'Skaggit's Tiny Limelight'? I was just looking at that one in The Violet Gallery's catalog, and it's high on my list, especially since I know Allison wants it too! :-)
