Bargain Violets

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh wow...that is a bargain!
I got an email from them to call the greenhouse.
So I am going to try again a little later.
I just got the answering machine again.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

'mornin' gals, Lorry, just to clarify, that AV isn't named elf ears, it just looks like it, it's name is Red Lantern. I'm not a huge fan of red flowers but I love it's leaves. Cute aren't they. oh and of course you can have some leaves. I may have put leaves down too. Anyone who had broken leaves got them put into a new tray

I must confess, I placed another order too. Mine should be here today. It ends up being just over $2 each with shipping. And granted it was some work to repot each one, but I'm looking forward to doing it again. Very Zen like! And while I have enjoyed knitting the last few nights (for those not in the 'know' my best friend roped me into a knitting class last week so I've been knitting a scarf each night) I enjoy repotting much more. Last night at midnight DH comes out to my playhouse to see what in the world I could be doing out here at midnight and I was 'preening' all my Ali baby av's.

He says 'what are you doing! it's midnight!'

"Just playing with the plants'.... I had lost track of time....

Here's the tray full of leaves. I take the dome off during the night and part of the day. I don't think I even need it. Just waiting for my real lights and heat mat to arrive and then I'll organize them and spread them out.
Also need to get a baby gate for my bedroom to keep my dogs out. My naughty bassets have lethal tails that wag furiously so i'm afraid to spread them to the lower shelf in the even that tails send av babies flying!

Yes I had got an email to call them also. I had been trying sense 8 am their so busy.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's great Begonia :)) I have so much fun playing with my plants. I always think I need to be putting down leaves so I will always have babies to be potting up :))
I do not have room for the hundreds of babies I have growing let alone 40 more plants but I had to they are only $1.00 each . I ordered some pots he has them 50 percent off.
I have several plants coming from Bluebird greenhouse in Jan. And I know I can't wait for Violet Gallery's 2006 catalogue to come out. I'm going to have my husband make a couple more 8 ft. long window shelves. I might have to get rid of the two little greenhouses and get another plant stand. lol
I will put lots of leaves down when I get the plants to share and re-pot them in proper size :))
FUN !! FUN !!! I'm a Happy Camper

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL well we bought him out Begonia.
I have red lantern I think :) Though it is little so no need ot add that to my list :) It is cute as a button though!
I am also calling them later today to buy some supplies and see if I can't dig up some other treasures from him :)
I also had to do some work to the ones I got but they were in overall good health :) So it is more then worth it :)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

they have a 'twofer' (two for $1) plantlet sale on ebay right now as well as their $1 plants and self watering pots. Not sure what they have via website. But let us know if you get a great score!

Not a bad deal to get some good trade stock started! They did say they would try and not send duplicates of the first order I placed. So hope I get some different ones. I requested girl leaves, mini's and trailers. But of course they can't make any promises. It is a grab bag after all...

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I bought some of the twofers also :)
I called in an order and she is going to send me whatever they have from that.
I ordered a bunch of supplies also.
The supplies were 50% off so it was a great deal.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

What kind of supplies do they have?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

oh everything! Labels, tweezers. suckerpluckers and the like.
I also bought some pots, some charcoal and a few other things.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

The good news is.... (drum roll please...) I'm getting a heater/ a/c unit for my playhouse. Yea! Temperature control for all the babies!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

http://www.african-violets.com/catalog.htm
this is the link to their catalogue
I also ordered some episcia.
She was not sure exactly what they had but said they would only charge me for what they shipped!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

They said this is last week . Mine will ship Tuesday ! I thought a $1.00 each was awesome. I also ordered about 10 4" pots I don't use them much and 50 more of theeee 2.50 . It said pots 50 percent off. I bought trailers and Seeeemo-minis, he says Minis are gone but I asked if he finds some to put them in please :)) I can't wait to seee what I get. I love

surprise boxes most of all. Allison

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Heat and a/c wow awesome Begonia yeah !!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

See..now they told me they didn't know! LOL so I gave them a list and they said they would send what they had from my list of supplies and plants :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Well i called early. I talked to Denise. The plants he is sending his choice, but Semi-miniatures and trailers :)) Allison

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

oooooohhh, talk about temptation!

If we weren't going to be more out than in between now & Jan 1, I'd probably give in to the temptation.... but with the cold weather plus holiday postal delays plus the possiblitiy that they'd sit on the porch until my neighbor noticed them.... well, probably I should resisit.

But I will sure enjoy this thread and looking at the photos of everyone's new bargain treasures!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes Critter sure is a big temptation I did not need but I could not help myself. I know I will and I'm suree everyone else will beee putting down
leaves deom all our new plants there will be plenty for everyone to go around in the Spring :))

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh yes..there sure will!
I will be putting down tons of leaves of EVERYONE!
I also have some Monique suckers growing nicely to share with everyone :)_

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

OK. got a reply from Dennis as to the potential name for the Malakai mystery violet.
Well he thinks it might be Molakai, but I looked up the violet named Molokai after rememberin seeing one named Maui (my FAVORITE island)
and It isn't Molokai http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesm-z/molokai.html
Mine has holly leaves, dk purple semi dbl. white center (sort of) and red reverse leaves.

Ali, what does first class say? (I can't get the program as it's a PC based application. DARN IT) I'm on a Macintosh. Grrrrr.. Guess I'll just have to keep bugging you...

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That's weird about FC they just sent me a CD. You need to write Joe Burns who is in Charge of FC and ask him. He is real nice.
jbruns@qwip.net
I love looking them up for you :))
Seems FC two pictures look about the same.
Single violet whte edge . Medium green, plain, serratted /red back. Standard
Looking back at your pictures red back it could be it ? Blooms do come
out different alot. But How did her get Molokai from the tag saying Malaral or the r may be a K . lol Allison

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I also checked threw his standard to see if I could find it .
http://www.african-violets.com/std.htm

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

No idea, it doesn't even look close to the optimara Molokai.

I did email the guy about FC, I'd need to install a progam on my mac called Virtual PC, i've had it on a mac before (older version and older mac) It was a pain in the rump! never worked right.

I guess I could use it on DH's PC, but that is a pain too. He's never home during the day and his pc is with him (laptop) so... I may just have to bug you once in a while.

It will just have to remain a mystery violet. D & P said the following:
I"m not able to find the descriptions you were requesting. These were in the collection when i took over. I know Alyce had some that may have not been registered therefore no description recorded. I believe the correct spelling is Molakia

Are you able to search FC by leaf type? I might post it to the Violet Brats web site or Violet Voice. Someone there may have an idea.

I am having hubby put up three new window shelves for my larger plants and Streps .... maybe he'll get one done tomorrow :)) I have so many babies to transplant. Today did a lot of watering. Like I transplanted a pot of Rasphberry Queen and Ultra Violet Dusk and the two solo cups turned into 9 pots of plants. lol
I have so many of both and when I got Rhaspberry Queen was so rare
not I'll have one for everyone :)) I just love growing by leaf new birth, and I always have plants to share and never run out of people who would enjoy them. I'm glad I have two boxes paid for already to go out in Jan...from the ten or less give away..and couple more paying so this can make some room. As the babies grow fast. I can put large plants on window shelves the two new ones will be about 8 foot long by 8-10 inches winde this will help. Each plant I gt from Bargain Violet I will put down leavees :))

Yup, the list is above Ali. I know some of the trailers, but not others. Thanks for any help you find in FC.
(BTW, I think I mentioned that FC wont work on my comp! :-(
Otherwise I'd order it. I still might and use it only on DH's comp.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think I'll send you the Rainbow's weeping clown. I can put down a leaf or two and then send her to you.
on second thought, better wait and see what they send you first, you might actually get it. BUT if not, I'll send it along.
I'm in love with the tiny wood trail. just from the internet photos.

Yes I love my Tiny Wood Trail ! I grew it and a few by leaf ! Have fun ! I love it when I get plants and there's more than one in the pot !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I have tiny wood trail..I didn't know it was a micro mini!
How cool :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes trailer sizes are by leaf. Tiny Wood Trail by T. Khoe Micro-Miniature trailer Single Blue bell like flowers.
Now girls when it blooms they are very tiny so don't be surprised.
This picture here from First Class is either in a 1" or tops 2 " pot !

Thumbnail by Allison_FL
Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I believe it! If you look at the blooms compared to the leaves, they will be tiny! I think the biggest leaf is about the size of my thumbnail.
The one I got is actually in the best shape of all the bargains. Also Frosted Belle, it's smaller but in great shape.

I'm finished repotting a cleaning up, spraying and drenching. I put everyone on an old towel to pull excess water from the pots so they don't drown!
Everyone looks good!

Allison, you're going to LOVE Aly's China Doll, she is a true cutie pie! the teeniest little whiteish-green flowers that fade to pale pink! WOW and loaded with blooms/buds! There were two in the pot, so she got divided and I put one aside for you.

Will post photos later...We've had so much rain that we are at flood stage! Have to watch the river (we live on the only river in our county, supposed to hit highest possible flood stage between 4am and 10 am this morning. Our house far enough awa that we should be ok) Arrrrgh!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh I hope you don't have flood problems. I'm praying !
I can't find info on Frosted Belle ? How did I miss this pretty little one ?
Oh I can't wait to see Aly's China Doll ! Thank you so much for her and the other Aly ! I just love them ! Sounds like all your plants are on their way to good health and Happy Bloomers !

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Here are some shots of Aly's China Doll before I removed all the blooms and divided her. I left some buds and saturated them with neem in hopes that I can enjoy them without bugs. I actually sprayed into the buds themselves to try to get any hiding thrips (if it had them)

Also is Aly's Mary Ruth she looks to have cream colored buds coming out. Not sure what they'll be.

here's Frosted Belle too.

first photo is Aly's China Doll (sorry it's so blurry, camera was doing it's own thing)
