Dave leaves San Antonio

In case you've wondered why I might have been a little absent over the past couple weeks, well, those long-time members on DG won't be surprised to learn that we've moved again. One of our habits is to move to a new house once every year or so. This time we've chosen, of course, to stay in Texas and experience the Bryan/College Station area.

Nothing has changed, except that my office is now much more interesting. I'm in a closet now, and it's the biggest closet I've ever seen. :-) Oh, and we are now on 37 acres of land. We like this place so much, we may end up staying here longer than our usual length of time.

We live 2.5 hours away from Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Any folks who we know personally are more than welcome to come visit us at our ranch. D-Mail for details.

Dave

(Zone 8b)

So now every day when you stop work you will have to "Come out of the closet" - what does Trish have to say about that! Can I start a rumour???????//
Happy landings Dave the new place sounds great.

Sorry Dave my sense of humour got the better of me its in a wicked mood today. Not intended to offend, please edit if it does.

I'd rather that you didn't.

Happy Move, Dave, Tricia & Family. Sounds like a lovely closet Dave!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

So happy all is well at the "ranch". Bryan's one lucky town :)

Dea

Wow! Congratulations on the new home! Are you going to raise cattle and stuff? I've only ever driven through the panhandle of TX and I've never seen so many cows in my life. Had a good steak at a restaurant in TX too. :-) God's blessings to all of you.

Englishtown, NJ(Zone 6b)

How clever - "come out of the closet"!

Good luck on your new home! Is it a cattle ranch?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I have friends in College Station!!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hah! I figured ya'll were about due for a move! (Actually, I was thinking ya'll took a nice long leisurely extended Thanksgiving holiday! Ya tricked me!) I know, without a doubt, that if you've spent these past days moving you haven't had an hour of leisure at all! Moving is busy work!! Am happy to hear you survived another one, and I bet enjoyed it as well!

Congrats to you and the Family! Wow...37 acres! Ya'll must be overjoyed!

Hoping your closet is a great one! Hoping also that Trish is enjoying the decorating, planning, and pointing her finger with orders (move that here, that doesn't go there, we need to paint this room this color, the kid's room needs this, the front flower beds need more rosemary, etc!). For some reason I think she enjoys this part of settling in! She does great, doesn't she!?

One day, I hope to get to Texas. Seems like you picked a mighty nice state to live in.

Happy Day to ya, Dave and Trish!

Shoe.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

If you move that often, do you leave behind a lot of beautiful gardens?

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Dave,
Congrats and PLEASE post pics ASAP!!

Moved again huh? I'll pretend I am surprised. LOL When you have family, anywhere you go is home! I hope you and Trish and the little W's enjoy your new home. I am envious of the acreage. If you can knock me out and get me on a plane, I'd love to see you guys!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I'll knock her out!
Someone got a plane?!?

Congratulations on the move.

nap-

We always try to take as many plants as possible with us when we move, but very often we move too far from the previous house to take all that much. It's usually pretty quick from deciding to move to actually going as well, so there usually isn't time to do much propagation. Not to mention all of the room plants take! We brought a good 50 plants with us,....it does always feel like starting over again. I think I'll be begging for plants, for sure *grin*

Shoe- you know me too well :) I LOVE putting together a new house :) I must say, this one is lots of fun- I'm having a blast! It's nice to move in the winter, too- I have time to do all sorts of projects on the inside before spring hits and I start redoing the very pitiful "landscaping" outside.

Trish

(Zone 7b)

You guys must be young, to be able to see moving that often as a fun thing?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Trish and Dave,
Enjoy! When I was younger I moved VERY often and loved it everytime. Even though it is a hassle, it sure is fun.
If you need plants later, just give me a whistle.

Dave,

You live near a cow college now. My younger daughter lives near one here in Indiana [Purdue].
One thing that stands out to me when looking at the map link.....all the roads are angling from every direction but straight. Up here things are laid out in north/south and east/west grids with a few angle roads.

Dave & Trish, glad you guys stayed in TX... and you're even closer now! It must be fun to start over with a new palette for gardening every once in a while, but I'm sure it's also hard to leave the ones you put so much work into, as well. You will really love being in such a wildflower-rich area!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Why do you move so often? Just fun finding great real estate deals?
I didn't mind i t when our family moved a lot when I was a little kid, but in my teen-age years I hated it! Every time I made friends and got involved in activities, we'd move. It made me rather inhibited in the end, but I got over that when I got to be about 40, lol.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Dave and Trish, congrats on your 37 acres and new home.
One of these days, I might find myself in texas. who knows....I need to come back for Michelle's last 2 yrs of high school....I'm scouting out areas........

Trish, I know you are having fun decorating and what not......how are the children?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Trish and Dave, enjoy your new home. Good luck with your new digs! ;-}

Crossville, TN

Congratulations on your new home!

When I first moved to Va. Beach...and friends visited about 3 times in one year and we had moved...again! He asked us "What happened? Did the rent come due?? Then we bought a house and stayed a full 13 years! Jo

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Dave, if you and Trish start taking a northernly direction, you should be in Alaska in time to put your kids in high school here! LOL!

Vic,

I was on a very small cattle ranch for a while. When I first got there, I took a clean push-broom that was lying around and scratched some of the cows' backs with it. After that, the cows could be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay across the field, and all I'd have to do was go "Mooooooooooo!" and hold up the push broom, and the cows would all rush over to the fence so I could scratch their backs with that broom! That was a lot of fun!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, wow, new digs for you guys! :)

Thornton, IL

ROFLOL at those cows!!! That is Hilarious, I would really love to see that one.

Congrats on your move Dave & Trish and kids. Happy Holidays to all! :-)

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

DAVE I am wondering if it would be possible to have a classic forum for Huechera. The last couple of years it seems they have really taken off in popularity. I think they are becoming a collectors thing like Hosta.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ozarkian, it might be better for you to start a new thread with that request. Others with a similar interest in huechera may not see your post here.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Gardenwife: Why would I do what your saying. I was wondering about starting a additional CLASSIC FORUM. according to the short write up discribing Dave Garden Forum this is where I come with that type of request.

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Sorry gardenwife I got it wrong. I have it posted on a string here

Wewoka, OK(Zone 7a)

Congrats on your new home Dave & Trish!! My DH & I made several trips to the College Station/Bryan area during the time our DD was at TAMU. It is a great community - do try to take in a TAMU football game - there is nothing quite like them even if you aren't a "died in the wool" Aggie. The DD gets back occassionally but we haven't been since she graduated in '01. Enjoy your new home!

aggiesmom

Thanks for the kind wishes, everyone! We've been here over a month now and sure are enjoying it. The kubota with front end loader arrives tomorrow. :-)

dave

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

They're excellent work horses!
Dave, which model of Kubota did you get ?

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

dave,
After you get settled in and after Christmas is over, you must show us pics of the new place.

Will do! Have to get the gardens in before any cameras are allowed on the property, though. :-)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

... and a merry CHRISTmas to you too dave

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I can't imagine moving so often, but still you are young and full of pep and energy. We moved 3 times the first 3 years we were married, but stayed in one house 11 years and this one almost 30. I think our next move will be to a nursing home - we have collected too much stuff to move. I guess by moving often you would learn to keep only useful things.

Best wishes for you all.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Hi Dave.

You sound about as nomadic as my parents were when I was a little girl. You're about their same age (at that time), as well.

But......... I can't really say a whole lot, as I seem to be nomadic as well. I moved from Spokane to Clayton and now back to Spokane since August. I am, however, very glad to be back to the town I know I belong in. I feel very blessed with the apartment I have obtained, and the courtyard outside of my window that I hope to help with with my gardening. I asked for people to pray for me and God heard the prayers. Sometimes God doesn't answer all prayers, but He does answer some of them and I believe he does things for a reason. I do believe I was put in Clayton, WA for a reason and helped someone there that was probably going to die if she didn't get the help she needed. I am still there for her in my heart, as well as by phone, but just couldn't deal with her lifestyle.

I guess what I am saying is that God is the masterhand on where we end up - but He does give us choices. I couldn't ask for a better Being to pray to.

My faith is so much stronger than it was 5 months ago.

God Bless.
