Leopard's Bane

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I pulled my tag from my Leopard's Bane and the latin name is : Doronicum cordatum. All the Leopard's Bane in the plant files looked like this plant, but all had different names. Is this name correct?

According to PF, Doronicum cordatum is one of the synonyms for Doronicum orientale which is one of the Leopard's Bane's that you probably found when you did your search.

OK . I wasn't sure if it could have 2 different latin names. Super plant!

Yes, I've run across lots of plants have two (or more!) different Latin names. And there's even more duplication with lots of plants from different species or even a different genus that all have the same common name--makes things nice and confusing for us gardeners!

I like plants with 4 or 5 different common names - it's good for confusing nongardeners. Liatris comes to mind!

Yeah, that's a good one! I don't know what's more confusing, having lots of common names for the same plant, or having the same common name for multiple plants that aren't even related to each other! Either one's a pretty good way to confuse non-gardeners (or gardeners for that matter!)
