A list of my collection

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

James...that is my argyle socks :)
The lil one in the front row of the window box :)
It does have fabulous leaves but mine is out of bloom at the moment :)
So that is the one you are actually inquiring about :)
It is one of the prettiest plants! The variegation stays true!!!!
I can search online to find a bloom picture if you wish but right now..I just don't have one

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Plantmomt3
I am glad you enjoyed the photos :)
My husband was laughing at me the whole time I was taking some of them :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Actually yes...my Argyle has bloomed for me. I believe it is just going through a growth thing again right now :)
It has lovely flowers and the plant is to die for even out of bloom :)
Does Argyle usually have a problem blooming?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Violet..I am not at home right now..but I believe that is my argyle socks you are both looking at :)
Here is a bloom photo I found online ":)
This is a photo I found on the internet

And yes I have streps and chiritas also :)
I would have to look at home where my list is to tell you exactly which ones :)
I also have episcia
What is a Gessie? Not sure if I have those
And James...I will be putting photos up on plantfiles as soon as my husband has my home computer up and running :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Treasure
I will send you an oyama pot or two to try out..so don't buy any until you know if you like them :) Consider them a gift.
Oh and put me on the list for Splatter kake..it is on my full wish list *wink*

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh thank you Deb :) I am so excited to find people who share my fascination :)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey guys
I got a Dmail from a friend on here letting me know that some of the photos I posted here are from the internet.
Some of my plants that are not blooming presently , I posted pictures I found off the the internet..and some that I bought off of ebay I posted photos from there.
I didn't know this was a no no and I am sorry :(
In the future I won't do that.
Thanks for pointing that out to me.
Most though are of my collection....Once I have my computer back up and running...I will do through and let you know exactly which ones are and which ones are not from my personal collection.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've got one leaf down now for 'Rebel's Splatter Kake', and I'm going to see if my little plant can spare another one to put down this weekend. We'll make sure there's plenty of everything to go around this spring!

Oh, and "gessies" are what some folks on the forum call Gesnariads, just a nickname like "brugs," generally referring to non-AV gesnariads.

Hmmm, the photo thing might be another reason for me to get that "First Class 2" program -- their web site says you can use the photos on it for personal use, which seems to include posting on a forum like this one as long as you are not using the photos to *sell* plants or leaves.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I am very new to this forum thing *laugh* I didn't know posting photos from the web of stuff I have was an issue.
Though many people have made it QUITE clear in email LOL
Not to worry, I can wait on splatter kake :)
I suppose I should put some leaves down...this is my first time at actually swapping and I think I may actually find people to swap with.
SInce most are swapping in the spring..I should have plenty of time to spawn off some lil fellas :)
I do have espiscia *strawberry fields, tiger stripe, tropical topaz, choc soldier*
and umpredictable valley which I am now managing to kill *growl*
I also have alsobia cygnet *and an extra pup of it if anyone is interested in that.
I have streps also....Matthew and a few others...I can't remember the list without looking at it and that is at home.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

What is the first class 2 program?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Let me know if you figure out the trick to growing 'Unpredictable Valley'... mine is barely hanging on.... no more has died back, but no new growth either... and it was a gift from a DG friend, so is 10 times more precious to me than if I'd purchased it!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Check it out! http://www.firstclass2.com/

I was thinking it might be a way to keep track of my own collection too, since I think you can add your own notes & photos to the files as well as being able to add "unofficial" cultivars (NoIDs or just unregistered ones).

Edited to add it's $25 for AVSA members, http://www.avsa.org/Store/Books.html#First%20Class%20MVL%20Program

Hmmm, another reason to stop procrastinating and become a member!

I don't have much luck with most episcia so I doubt I will be a good source..but if I ever figure it out..I will let you know.
I have mine in a bowl and it is pretty much dead..no matter what I do with it :(
Too bad though, it is gorgeous!!!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh wow how cool :)
I am already a member! SO I guess I need to beg hubby for the program now :)

Mt Zion, IL(Zone 5b)

I, too, have "Splatter Cake" and just a couple days ago, I put down leaves. I'd be happy to share in the spring. =)

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

That would be WONDERFUL Betsy :)
Send me a Dmail of your interests that I have and I will start some plantlets for this spring :)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

First Class is First Class 2 and you could not spend your money better. I use mine everyday and would be lost without it.
Once while up dating the version something happened to it I emailed Joe Burn he put a new CD right in the mail to me. But I was without it for 4 days and I really missed it.
The benifits and enjoyment is unlimited. You pay $25.00 I think the first years up-dates are free ? Think ? Then you pay ten $$$ a year for the wonderful up-dates. Up-dates on plants , photos , new ones are done every other month. But once during the summer I think it was there was a up-date two months in a row as there were so many hundreds of new photo's they had to do a new up-date. Thousands , like 20 thousands African violets, photo's all their info, you can add plants and photos, noids some people add their Streps and so on in. You can also send photos into AVSA to be on FC. Some plants have more than one photo by different people ! Like the list goes on.
I was told few years ago at a local meeting if I did anything to get the AVSA magazine and FC. I hate to say it, lol the grumpy old bossy man ( he knew everything lol controling how his wife ever put up with him lol ) well he was correct. There has not been a day I have not used it or enjoyed it :)) Allison

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hey, I started a thread to talk about First Class and about ways to keep track of AV notes.... Allison, I took the liberty of quoting what you wrote above and adding it to the thread.... Please check out the thread and add comments here, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/561367/

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Jill reason I posted here was I saw Lottie asked what FC was and about 4 posting up you did a big posting about FC thats what I saw and put my 2 pennies in :))

I have Spalter Kates also :))
Jill hope you still have you 'Unpredictable Valley'. It will not die completly. They do like warm humid enviroments and do not like to be real wet. Lot's of light. Oh my I know my Blue Heaven is almost touching the light it realy like light. Most of my large ones are in natural light.
Ok cut a dead part off. Keep warm and give light. Let it almost dry out giving it just a tiny bit of water and food at a time. Within a month or less a new tiny baby will come up and the plant will start growing new ! At this time if the pot is large I take the little baby and pot it in a small pot once again always keeping it warm. When growing an Epsica it's a good idea to take off baby baskets either put them in pot with Mom or their own pot. Keep doing this until the pot is nice and full. Want more flowers keep baby basket off. I like growing mine in Pan Pots ( bubl pots) and hanging baskets ! Good Luck, Allison

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the advice on episcias, Allison! I'm a little dubious about starting a new plant from "a dead part," not because I doubt your expertise but because I'm currently having enough trouble keeping the live parts of my plant looking lively! LOL

BTW, I surely didn't mean to complain about your posting about First Class... I just wanted to put that great info over in the other thread too, so it would be easier to find. :-)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Jill
I know the episcias sounds crazy but it has happened to me many times and I have told people and they were surprised it did for them.
I had one that grew so large. It was in a 12 pot. it was my Tri-color.
It must of got tired and started to die back :((. Well it was heavy in a hanging pot. Waitng on my busy hubby to take it down. ( good thing I had to wait a long time lol ) I gave it tiny amounts of water here and there. To my amazment one day was the cutest little baby about 2 " big.
I took it out being so small and gave it it's own pot. It grew big and healthy and I was again able to share it with dozens of people :))
My favorite Aussie Alcie, My Grandmother name Alice. Mom wanting one. Alice shows no boundaries . Mom's tiny plant grew and grew over the past two years. I have transplanted it so many times. One time she brought me a plant of at least 4 feet long of winding soft baby baskets . The foliage was so soft she had it in a box as she never took a baby off
and in just a few months wow. I took it apart repotted her a nice big plant and made new babies !
Once again time went by and i had no lie share Alice with well over 50 people and those people sharing Alice too.
I had no more Alice :((. So MOm brought her plant not doing well with babies :)) I think when my sister was visiting she gave it too much love and watered it too much.
Well it had a lot of plant in a large 8 inch pot but most of it out of the pot. I did not and could not use any of the roots. I made a nice big plant for Mom in a pan pot . I made several other baby plants .
But here I had a pot with some roots maybe a stub or so. I always thrwo old dirt away, I never reuse pots... But I was not going to thrwo it away. I stuck it out on the deck. It got heat and rain. My husband had to move it into the screen room shed beacasue of a Hurricane coming. He then after took it out and out the pot in his shade garden that gets nice morning light. He watered the empty pot .taking care of it. This pot is big about 10 " across and very deep it was a hand painted pot I bought for Mom's plant. I want to tell you within a month he had a good size plant. Then the pot was full and foliage and babies flowing over
lots of flowers. It grows better than the ones inside. It is so soft and the color perfect and foliage so soft. I stoled some of his babies here and there lol and more grew back twice as fast. :))
I never throw aways an Episcia .
Tri-color from the dead plant/that gave me a little baby :))
