begoniacrazii,
Those are lovely! The first one is very unusal. I have one with similar leaves but it hasn't bloomed yet.I bought it w/o blooms just for a surprise...lol
The second one is very similar to Optimara's Affection.
I have it and they sure look like sister's.
All are just Beautiful!
I love the price, too! I like my " registered & named varieties" for sure, but give me a good ole $2.00 grocery store special and I love it just as much.:)
Our Krogers had a sale on some really fresh NOIDs and I think I bought about 20 different varieties!!
I have no shame or control when it comes to AV's..lol
MsC
Show me your favorite NOID...
I have no shame or control either. Look at me, I've been playing in the AV forum ALL day. I did get some work done for my business, along with several loads of laundry and the dishes, as well as repotting some plants. But really, I'm shameless today.
I just about wore myself out yesterday. I bathed all four dogs (Amber weighing in at 77 pounds and believe me, by back felt every pound of her as I heave her big behind into the bath tub), blew their fur dry, then hauled three to the vet for toenail trims and by the time we were done, I spent the next two hours cleaning dog fluff out of the bathroom. End result is a very tired basset hound mom and four very nice smelling doggies. I'm feeling my age though, I actually slept in a little today. They just plum tuckered me out! So today I coasted.....
I'm in good company then!
I've seen the beautiful pics of your lovely Bassets and they are all too sweet. I myself prefer something I can bathe with a wash cloth.:)
Gotta have my Chihuahuas!
MsC
My best friend has a Chi. Her name is Carmina Rodriguez Lopez Fernandez or something like that. But we just call her 'Beauty Queen' and she has the most adorable underbite that just makes you laugh!
Ah yes they are lil heart stealers...I have 6 ! Plus a Blue Heeler to keep them in a small herd..lol
MsC
Bassets tend to grown on you! Two of the three are rescues, the third we adopted from a nice family that couldnt keep her. All are like my babies, but all have 'issues'. Food obsession (they've come to the right house!), howling issues, cat chasing at times.
Cute pups Kenton! What are thier names. We have Amber ,aka AmberlinaBalerina or just Leena for short, Miss Sophia or Foof for short and Ellie Mae Waddlebottom, I just call her Melvin. My DH just scratches his head. He doesn't understand the 'connection' I have with my dogs. We also have a 13 yr old fox terrier blend. her name is Seminole, but we call her Semee for short. they are all on www.dogster.com. along with several of the cats.
And to stay OT, here's a shot of my healthiest and oldest (longest lived with out being killed) AV. It has purple blossoms.
Chiwiener....ROTFLOL...that's too funny. Bet that ones got personality plus???
Both are beauties!
Animals are always a welcomed topic on my threads..lol
I have a small zoo.:)
I still have a small piece of the first AV I started with and it must be gettting old or too much care cause it looks sad.the more I learn the worse it looks..lol I just put some leaves downhoping to get another start of it going before I loose it completely. It must have really loved over watering and then drying out bone dry , living in the dark and constant temp changes cause now with better AV care it's not too happy.
Personality plus, Intelligence Minus! Poor dog. All the IQ points went into Cuteness...
For those interested, here is a good link for Begonia's dogs:
http://www.dogster.com./pet_page.php?i=92612&j=t
Humans could learn a lot from dogs: They love you unconditionally, even if you are:
Fat, thin. old, green, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Professor, Football player, Hippie, Stupid, silly, grumpy, nudist, quaker....
Kind of like your odd violet, eh, MsCritter?
(By the way: I used to call her a Dachs-huahua, but I was corrected that the breed is, in fact, Chiwiener!)
Names:
left to right: "Britta" (short for Briggita) and "Poppy" (sounds like 'puppy' which she was called before we knew she didn't have a home, was abandoned, and found by Britta.)
Thanks, MsC for the topic 'allowances!'
Kenton
"Personality plus, Intelligence Minus! Poor dog. All the IQ points went into Cuteness..."
Oh thats tooo cute... I have one of those lil guys too.
Nice to know there are more animal addicts in the forum besides myself. We could start our own thread in the Pet forum and keep it rolling forever. I love my animals and have a hard time putting a preference on the order of things...
Kenton,
Now of course staying on topic lol... Please promise to start me a piece of you pretty pink trailer from the pic of yours above & I will trade you something of your liking for it.??
MsC
Great pictures! how about some more on the pet forum!!
I put leaves down of that trailer for you, MsC.
Do you know that tree, Cheryl?
Kenton
THANK YOU KENTON!...
Now DG-mail me your lil wish list...
MsC

She helps me with my plants :))
Allison
Kenton,
I don't, but now you have me curious - I'll have to drive down 12th av until I find it!
Can I hear the story anyway?
(I plead only having lived here for 3 years)
Cheryl
Cheryl:
When I was in Alberni, I was charmed by it more than any water-side town I'd met. I drove my truck slowly and enjoyed all of the well-kept homes. (I think that tree is on a South-East corner, an Acer negundo; about 1 out of every 10,000 do that.) There was one little house on the west side of 12th, I think, with a nicer little border garden of nice summer color and some crocosmia. I slowed a bit to look closer and noticed this small dog, sitting in front looking very proud, stately, and relaxed in the setting sun. I pulled over and took a picture of it. I did not expect the flash to go off, but it did, which was good. I think the flash got the dog barking at me in a very seriously theatrical way. The resident of the house, whom I had not noticed working her garden, talked with me shortly. I told her that her dog looked particualrly photogenic today, and she said "Daisy had her seventh birthday today."
Kenton
Daisy looks like she has a bit of an overeating problem!
Like I said, stately and relaxed. Some day If you could figure out where that it (not the red maple) you could give the lady that picture. Just for kicks, I guess. Is there still a homemade doughnut shop down towards the water run by a half-way grumpy fellow?
Sweet story Kenton, and Daisy sure looks happy to have her picture taken proud of her pretty yard. She's a doll !
Allison
Oh, wow.......Daisy is a big'un! I love the chubby pups though--my beagle's on the "heavy" side. =) And the "Chiwiener" made me chuckle......we have a Cheagle too (Chi/Beagle).
Begoniacrazii--we gotta talk about that yellow variegated NoId of yours! G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!
And, Allison.......that 'Windy Day' made me "Ahhhhhhh........." out loud.
=) MKJ
Kenton, do you mean downtown, where the boats come in, and all the little shops are in a semi-circle?
My dogs are Noids as there not a full breed :)) They like to help Mom with her Av's Staying in the topic just had to add my loves in an O/T photo.
We were good helping Mom with her African violets now we get to share treat time.
Sad to say Babe our big dog she was 13 earned her wings and went to heaven this pasr summer. We will miss her forever.
That's the spot, Cheryl. He had some very good stale dougnuts.
I liked the place so much I had dinner there. (Not at the restaurant with the fancy wind-screens and the statue, but from my "Kitchen," which also happened to double as my bedroom, living room, dining room, office, closet, pantry, greenhouse and pickup bed.) I think I had Clam Chowder a la can...
"Cheagle" makes me more than chucke, MKJ. Good to see you. We owe our little bit of Violet directory in PF to you. I'm trying to push for more. With 20k cultivars or so available to us, we've been far outdone by the Hosta people! (Holy cheese; just go try to look at Hosta!) Any more good pictures, MK?
Those are some dogs with visable personality, Allison. That hair begs to be hugged.
Nice topic saver. Noid dogs...
Does anyone think it is halfway worth it to put nice noid pictures under Saintpaulia ionatha in PlantFiles? The point is to show what the plant can be...
Kenton
There you are Kenton right in my favorite spot on the water :))
Kenton, Port Alberni IS wonderful, I've lived in quite a few places, big and small, and when we moved here, I kept coming home and saying to my husband "People are so FRIENDLY here!"
It's a magical time- warp sort of place...
Very pretty noid :))
love that second one with the white centres!
I just love them all. Amazing how beautiful they are!
I do too Zeus! I thought it was SOOOOO unique :)
I agree Nan..I have yet to see a violet I didn't like :)
Oh, Kenton, my Cheagle's a hoot too! ;-) Bit the meter man recently....=0
I've got LOTS more photos around here.....not a prob! lol
