Without knowing the amounts of any checks or money orders being sent, I'd say we are about 1/3 of the way to our goal already!

Sandy - I have my money order. My experience (I grew up in the US and dealt with banks there while my mother was still alive), is that even in NY which is close to Canada, they look at a Canadian $ cheque as if it's counterfeit or worse. And they might eventually honour it, but the fees they charge to do so might be more than the cheque is worth. Get a bank money order in US funds. Depending on what kind of account you have, there might not even be a fee for it other than the exchange on the dollar.

I left the Food Cupboard - they are actually open right now - and came home to do a few things. I'll go back later and deal with the files from today's clients. I'll get my contribution into the mail before the 5 pm pick-up. And I'll D-mail Darius to let her know exactly how much to expect for her records since mail from Canada could take a week or more to reach her. BTW, postage to the US, in case you're not up on it, is presently 85 cents.

Thanks for the postage update Ann - I mail one Christmas card up that way each year, and I didn't know it had gone up. The people I send the card to are worth it, I just wouldn't want them to have to pay to get it!

I just talked with Elaine and if we have enough money in the kitty, she would love to have some clothing labels. So, clothing labels it will be. She is still so overwhelmed by all of this. It truly is going to be a dream come true for her.

I now know (God whispered in my ear,,,LOL) that we will reach our goal,,,,,with all of the generous donations from such truly kind hearted awesome people here at DG. I am sitting here with tears streaming down my fat little cheeks right now,,,,ROFLOL,,,my heart is bursting with joy over this.

Yippeeeeeeee,

Kelly

I sent my contribution this morning, Darius, so when you have time, give us a rough figure of what has been collected, please? Thanks all, this may be the best christmas I've had in years!! Darius, if more is needed let me know, I can pull another rabbit out of the hat!!

Okay, a rough update: We have made the goal for the software!!! (assuming all the checks come in)... and a little more so far for labels. I count 13 checks in the mail for which I have NO amounts, so I'm not really sure of the bottom line.

Tomorrow, Elaine will be researching the labels she wants/needs and we'll go from there.

Y'all are Amazing! You have done this in just over 24 hours!!!

Hugs and Thanks!

Sniff, sniff...everytime I read over the posts again I just think of how the angels must be smiling down on DG.

I mentioned to a few girlfriends today about the details of Elaine's Christmas Dream and one of them said "No way, people on an internet site do that? You're all like strangers just imagining that you're friends".
So I was quiet and then I said back to my friend Cheryl, "well then, you've never strolled through Dave's Garden".

Did you hear me jump in the air and yell "yahoo"?? Was that an echo or a whole bunch of DG'ers doing the same thing??

Do you believe, 24 hours to make the goal?

I took the liberty of writing to Scanacan today, saying that I was impressed with a company that would write back so quick and just sounded like a good company. Pat Ferguson wrote back to me tonight and I thought I would share it with you:

(sorry i don't know how to bracket like Kelly :) )

Dear Kathy,

Thank you very much for your kind message.

I am deeply touched by the love and generosity shown by your group so that she may have the SCANACAN product. We will do everything possible to ensure that she will get the most out of this product.

Our technical support is free. All she has to do is make the phone call, and we'll be very happy to help her in any way possible.

We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the kind loving deed you are doing for her.

Like I told Kelly in my message to her, God will reward you for this, your loving kindness.

Thank you very much.

God Bless you all.

Lovingly,
Pat Ferguson

Thought you all would like to read this as well. I am so happy that in 24 hrs the money was raised for this for Elaine. She is a sweet sweet soul and always here for a prayer or a kind word for everyone else. I'm feeling privileged to have been part of this for you dear Elaine and I hope that God blesses you with this tremendously.

In His Love,
Kathy

Butter, she is going to need lables to go with the machine and they are quite expensive.....so any extra is going for that!

This is just so awesome. Mine will be sent pay-pal tomorrow if DH still has the account. If not I will get a check in the mail.

I just have such good goose-bumples over this. Ya'll are just wonderful.

Thanks Debbie, I got an unexpected bonus today and this is what I want to do with it.

I had trouble understanding their website. Do you need to buy the bar code scanner to use it? I read everything, but I am a little confused?? I'll do a google and try to learn more.

This is so great!

I talked with a friend today that works with the visually and hearing impaired and she said that this software is the best there is on the market. She was so amazed at the fact that not only did we do this for an internet friend but we did it in only 24 hours.

I am just so proud to call myself a DGer. You all have earned extra candy in your stockings this year.

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

Ok, I found a picture of it. It looks fantastic! This is such a fabulous piece of equipment. I look forward to hearing Elaine's first hand experience with it, though I imagine she will too busy scanning for a while!

You guys are so great for organizing this and making a dream come true. How cool is that? This entire thread is a testament to the old saying 'tis better to give than to receive'. I'm thankful to be a little part of it with my label money. Thank you!

Rachel

I am sitting here stunned and completely awed at the generosity of each of you. There are no words that can possibly express how I'm feeling right now. To simply say "thank you" seems so inadequate but please know that it comes from my heart. I'm not good with words and am too emotional right now anyway, so I'd like to share an email I received some time ago that was special to me. Maybe you'll understand why I think it fits.
SAND AND STONE

This story tells of two friends walking through the desert.
During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without
saying anything, wrote in the sand:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis,
where they decided to take a bath. The one who had
been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning,
but the friend saved him. After he recovered
from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend
asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and
now, you write on a stone, why?" The other friend replied

"When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away.
But, when someone does something good for us, we must
engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND
AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person,
an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them,
but then an entire life to forget them.

Send this to the people you'll never forget and
remember to send it also to the person who sent it to you.
Let them know that you'll never forget them.

Thank you. I'll never forget.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Something tells me Elaine is going to be shopping so she can keep making new labels and having fun color coordinating everything......and knowing what can she is opening and going to eat! Can't imagine the thought of opening a can of chicken soup to get pinto beans or something unexpected! Then have to use it so it doesn't go to waste!

There are so many ways this is going to be a positive in her life....and this positive has turned into a BIG positive for all of us! Someone needs to be there to take a picture of that smile! LOL

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Just think of all the shoe's you can get now! Ahh not that I'm saying you have a shoe fetish or anything.... :P~

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

Elaine, that is beautiful. I am printing it out to hang by my computer as a reminder.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

What a wonderful story. I think I will have to write out that saying and hang it on my bathroom mirror.

Thanks Elaine. You are a special person and I am honored to know you....

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius or Kelly what is the delivery time schedule for this? Will she get it before Christmas so we wont have to worry if she is wearing the wrong color shoes...
