Hi All,
Our friend I01 (Elaine) has an amazing device on her Christmas Dream list and there has been some talk amongst several of us DGers of wanting to make her dream come true.
Elaine is visually impaired and there is a device called Scanacan which sounds like it would make life a whole lot easier for her. I have included the link to the site. http://www.fergusonenterprises.com/ You can click on view our latest specials to read all the wonderful things that this device can do. I have found it on several web sites and everyone is welcome to google it and see what you think.
I would like to hear any and all input from peope who would like to donate money so we can make Elaine's Christmas Dream come true.
Thanks, Kelly
Elaine's Christmas Dream
Donations (checks in USDollars or money orders) of any amount, send to:
Darius Van d'Rhys

I will keep a spreadsheet of all donations, by whom, etc. and if we don't get enough, I shall return it all. Molly can be the overseer, 2 DG heads are better than one, LOL.
I also have a PayPal account if that's easier.

What total amount are we looking at?
Ann
I will be doing a little more investigating tonight. So far I think we will be right around $700.00 - $750.00 with shipping, but that's only an early guestimate I will get more details tonight and will post then
Kelly
The software is $649.00 (USD) and we don't have a price on shipping yet.
Oh, and PLEASE include your DG name!
darius - I just paypalled my contribution. Thanks for doing this. I LOVED the Christmas thread, I have laughed until I'm crying, what a great and funny bunch of people, contributing pieces of inlaws, excess fat to save fashion models. sometimes I think what I need the most is a good laugh.
And then to go and make it so generous and heartwarming and caring besides, well, it's just making my day!! Week even!!
Yeah, Dorothy, sometimes I need a good laugh more than anything!
I just had a Dmail from IO1, said she fell into a pile of big hearts when she joined DG, LOL.
Elaine did something rather special for me personally with her computer that speaks what is written. Me and my dad will always cherish that :)
d - you have gator mail :)
Dea
It's a great bunch of people. I have more STUFF than I need but looking around at the world often leaves me feeling lonely and empty. I don't get it.. Then I get on here and even on a thread about what you want, it's not a big old wish list for stuff, it's all about sharing and laughing and having fun and caring about others. I would be thrilled to help make a dream like this come true, let me know how it's going. Now back to see what else has been donated over on the other thread!!
All those body parts should make one George Clooney.
Folks, as I do the accounting, remember that PayPal takes a fee so the numbers will be a bit short of what you send. Thanks.
ps... I will keep ALL donations anonymous unless you post publically that you have sent a donation.
Is a personal check OK ? or should it be certified ?
Personal check is just fine!
I'll mail a check in the morning. I was going to paypal it, but then decided I'd rather all of it go to Elaine's present, rather than some of it going to paypal. Your bank doesn't charge you for cashing checks, does it darius? If it does, I'll send well concealed cash instead.
No charge for cashing checks here, Joan, Thanks!!!
I don't think there are fees involved with Paypal for this. https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees
Darius - you should have my gift, please confirm. Merry Christmas Elaine!!!
Got it, Anita, Thanks!
I need to check into PayPal because I don't have a Premier/Business Account. They deducted a fee from yours too, Anita.
Hi All,
I just e-mailed Ferguson Enterprises and asked them if their price was still 649.99 and what shipping would cost to Georgia. I will post as soon as I hear from them.
Kelly
Kelly, I saw the site and was looking at the labels too. Did you see how many labels come with the setup? I noticed they were quite expensive...I think it was $18 for 200 if I read the right one.
Debbie,
I looked at the clothing labels and if I am reading it correctly they are $20.00 for 50 of them. There are some other labels that are $5.00 for 200,,,they have so many different ones though for all different kinds of things,,,,hard to know which are what,,,LOL
Maybe Elaine could pick out what she needed,,,as she knows better than we do.
Kelly
Darius, I will send a check in the morning. This does my heart good. Helping someone who really needs it. With my declining eyesight, might need this in the furture. Hurrah, for DG and the good folks here.
Darius, What is the paypal fee. Perhaps one could send their desired amount and the amount that paypal takes. Also, do you know if one can post on paypal from a credit card? I'm not sure how paypal works anymore. Thanks, Kathy
Kelly and Darius, you are great to step up to organize this! It's a wonderful, heartwarming thing to do. You can count on my contribution.
Just wondering the best method. To pay by Paypal, do I need an account of my own? Or would a personal cheque from Canada be acceptable?
Edited to say never mind on the cheque because it wouldn't be in U.S. funds.

Sandy,
As far as I know you do not need a PayPal account to pay someone. you log into www.paypal.com and click send money, put darius' e-mail in there and the amout you want to donate. That should be it.
Kelly
Umm...I think you do need an account to send money via paypal. They need your banking information confirmed prior to being able to withdraw money from your bank account.
If you are using a credit card, thatmay be different, but would still need an account I think, since they need to have your credit card confirmed. Also, I think paying with a credit card may put darius into a status where she would have to upgrade from personal to premiere if too many of us paid that way.
Sandy,
I think I was wrong,,,,(first time for everything,,,,,LOL) I just looked through the paypal web site and it's saying that you need to open an account. I thought they used to have it where you didn't have to have an account. Sorry.
Joan,
Thanks for posting that,,,it prompted me to go look and see.
Kelly
Now this is what Christmas is all about!
Darius, I sent something through Paypal.
Thanks for the opportunity to help,
Erynne
Just saw thread for the first time! Personal check is in the mail tomorrow, Darius
Edited to ask, What is your goal?????

HI I'm In. I'll send a check but to who you kelly ??Please let me know !! ...........Sharon
Checks in the mail "merry chrismas to Elaine"......
Check going in the mail this morning, hope Molly's mailbox is big enough for all these envelopes! Thanks again Darius for doing all the paperwork.
Count me in too. Hope Elaine can get it installed for Christmas.
I hope we get some mile marker updates!! (No pressure here though, darius and kelly) It will be fun to get this done in time for Christmas!
How long does it take to get a Paypal account? Maybe I'll just send a money order in U.S. funds.
Sandy
Sharon,
You can send your check to darius,,,,,,her address is at the top of the thread. Thank-You
Sandy,
Takes about 2 min. to open a PP account,,,,If your not comfortable with it, I would think a MO in US funds would be fine?
darius,
Money Orders ok with you?
Kelly
darius said the paypal fee was only a little over a dollar on my contribution, so that would be cheaper than a money order and stamp from Canada, if that matters. I've had Paypal for years without problems, it's handy this time of year.
or possibly you could close it up again if you won't use it again
Money Orders are fine, Canadian checks are not. Sorry.
Maria, the software itself is $649.00, plus shipping. Then she needs labels for clothes, which are from $20 for 50 and up.
Ok, I'll look into Paypal and if that doesn't work I'll send the money order.
Sandy
