Last Christmas the kids burned a cd of "lite" Christmas music jsut for laughs. Included Blue Christmas, Baby it's Cold Outside, Santa Baby, one of Alvin and the Chipmunks...I'll have to look up the rest. It was fun for when i was tired and needed a laugh.
Otherwise, I love "O Holy Night" (Mario Lanza version) Go Tell it On the Mountain with Kathleen Battle and Wynton Marsalis, And Celtic Christmas.
What is your favorite christmas songs ?
Tazzy, thanks so much for the early reminder this year! I FINALLY remembered to order Christmas music early enough to actually be able to listen to it before Easter.....thanks to you! :-) So for the first time since I came to Israel, I'll be able to hear some of my favorite Christmas songs while I'm trying to mentally conjure up a Christmas season in my head (no Christmas season here LOL).
I also ordered several of my favorite Christmas videos for my kids (and ME!) to enjoy :-) I'm so excited!
(now watch the customs people screw things up and get them here only after the New Year! *rolling my eyes here*)

I would have to say my favorite is a toss up between. Mary Did You Know? and Silver Bells.
Casey
LOL, Santa baby is a great song. My daughter and my brother did a lipsync skit for my parents to that song. We all laughed so hard.
Ooh yeah, I like Mary did you know? too :)
Sarah
I love all the different types of Xmas music - so long as it's the old originals & not the new pop/rap/whatever versions.
We have quite a collection of Xmas CD's, & I love putting them on while I bake or make out the Xmas cards, etc. Either that or I put in one of my "A Christmas Carol" DVD's. The Alistair Sim one is my hands-down favorite.
My absolute favorite, hands down, is "Oh Holy Night".
I'm really partial to "Mary Did You Know", too!
My favorite is Emerson, Lake & Palmer "I Beleive in Father Christmas"
Second is the Kinks, "Father Christmas"
Third is Eartha Kitt and only Eartha Kitt singing "Santa Baby"
We hear these songs nonstop the week before Christmas although I sometimes let a few other songs in house to keep DH from going insane.

NO ONE can match Eartha Kitt !
I like Winter Wonderland, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Up on the Housetop, those are the ones I like to go around humming.
I still have my album of Band Aid singing 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'. I was 9 or 10 when that came out and it was the first album I ever bought myself.
Rachel
I guess my favorite must be The Holly and The Ivy. It's the one I find myself singing or humming the entire season.
I hadn't even started thinking about Christmas music until this thread. Now DH and I are dancing to "Santa Baby" with the dog cutting in. We were married 32 years ago yesterday and when the only one cutting in is the dog, I feel old.
Nancy
People who dance never get old just '
" more in step "
oh it totally goes without saying that the Santa Baby we have is by Eartha Kitt...
Hard Candy Christmas and What Child is this
Oh Holy Night sung by Nat King Cole, no one can do it like he does!
IsThisHeaven, I agree... no one sang that song like "Nat"!
yes Nat was the man with the voice
always picture him as a big man till saw his picture
Hey, I saw him in person when I was 18, didn't look small on the stage!
(Fontainbleu Hotel dinner club, Miami Beach where my boyfriend was working)
snboyken: I hadn't thought of "Hard Candy Christmas"--I love that song. Thanks for the reminder. : )
Rhonda
Hard Candy Christmas is a new one to me . lot on here i havent heard before.
Been in rut , " Crawling out to go buy some new songs "
I haven't heard of Hard Candy Christmas either... I'll have to look for it. :)
I just got the Barnaked Ladies holiday album: Barenaked for the Holidays. I love it! :) Of course, they're my favorite band, so go figure. :) I love that they sing the birthday song with Jesus filled in! I thought I was the only person who did that! :) hehe
Sarah
My MIL always bakes a birthday cake for Christmas Eve, and we all sing Happy Birthday.
I love the Barenaked Ladies! I think they're brilliant. : )
"Hardy Candy Christmas" is a Dolly Parton song. It's a sort of bitter-sweet break-up song, rather than an actual Christmas song, but it doesn't usually get played except at Christmas time.
We always had birthday cake on Christmas eve, too, but that's because it's my brother's birthday. : ) Poor fella--always ended up being given "birthday/Christmas" presents instead of separate gifts for each event!
Rhonda
My favorite is Silent Night.
I also love I Saw Three Ships sang by Sting and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Barenaked Ladies with Sarah McLachlan
Category 1 - "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" and "I Wonder as I Wander".
Category 2 - "He's the Man with All the Toys" by the Beach Boys and (from some old record my parents had, "Merry Christmas Polka".
a Christmas polka sounds good to me .
which i still had energy to dance one ?
I've heard different variations of this story, but I am always touched to think that it happened.
It was Christmas 1914 and the war was very young. More than 800,000 had been killed, and it looked as if Christmas would be just another day of killing among Christians on the front.
A British soldier on guard duty thought he heard a familiar song in the cold dark night as he crawled through the trenches: “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht.” He began to sing back, “Silent Night, Holy Night.” As he passed by, another joined him and another until there was a chorus on their side of the trench. Then the German soldiers started with another song, “O Tannenbaum,” and the English replied with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” Back and forth across the trenches they sang carols to each other. Then signs were hastily scribbled in German and English, “Merry Christmas.”
And then it happened. The war stopped! First one brave and tired soldier crawled across the barbed wired space, the field of war and death, which separated the armies. He brought some sardines. Soon more soldiers left their weapons and crawled out into the space, exchanging bottles of wine, chocolate, cookies and packages from home.
They shared pictures of families, wives and children. The officers on both sides were stunned but could do nothing. All night it continued. Some even played cards and soccer, laughing and singing, until the dawn of another day. Finally, the officers prevailed, summoning their men back to their side of the front and before Christmas Day ended, the war had resumed.
The Prince of Peace prevailed only one night!
Very good story
one day or night at a time
All in Gods time
The Garth Brooks christmas album has a song about this story, it always makes me bawl like a baby! lol ;)
Sarah
Emmanuel by Amy Grant
Til Santa's Gone by Clint Black
Amy Grant's "soaring" voice makes Emmanuel float through space!
Til Santa's Gone is just plain *fun*!
ginni

Of course, I know everything on the internet is true... >rolling eyes
Ok thanks for the info. I thought maybe I just had a different album than yours.
Well, it's not on a Christmas album, as I had thought... so that's probably most of the mix up :)
Sarah
"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but inside, it's so delightful..." Let it snow---2-4 inches here & coming. Looks like I'd better get those Christmas lights hung before all the outlets are buried in frozen drifts...
Ho Ho Wanda ,
Taking the season serious there in the north

"Santa Baby"
Music and lyrics, J. Javits & P. Springer
Sung by Eartha Kitt (1954)
Santa Baby, just slip a sable under the tree,
for me.
Been an awful good girl, Santa Baby,
so hurry down the chimney to me.
Santa Baby, a Fifty-four convertible too,
light blue.
I'll wait up for you dear, Santa Baby,
so hurry down the chimney to me.
Think of all the fun I've missed.
Think of all the fellas that
I haven't kissed.
Next year, I could be
just as good --
If you'll check off
my Christmas list.
Santa Baby, I want a yacht and really
that's not a lot.
Been an angel all year, Santa Baby,
so hurry down the chimney tonight.
