Whilst do some research I came across this:-

TIP: RED GERANIUMS VERSUS JAPANESE BEETLES

Here's the latest control technique for the ravenous Japanese beetle.
Japanese beetles love red geraniums and will attack these plants before any
others. However, while feeding on geraniums, they become intoxicated, stop
mating and feeding for days and as many as 1/3rd of them die. Plant red
geraniums around roses and other beetle preferred plants to slow their
attack. (Valid in Northeast, Southeast, Midwest) .

I should have said that the geraniums they are talking about are the pelargoniums. The real geraniums are cranesbills and are hardy. Pelargoniums are not hardy but are great indoor plants and bedding plants for the summer. The usual pelargonium is a zonal variety and are pink, white, peach and red. LOL Marsh!!!! But it is a great site!!
