Plant dislikes

This has probably been a thread before, but since Baa is being persecuted for her rose-ist views LOL, I wonder what plants everyone else would rather not have in their garden?

Other don't wants (but haves as I garden for my Mother, I don't have any garden space) are, Rhodos, Fuchsias (almost bareable), daylily and sickly yellow leaved plants invariably named gold...

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL Baa - sorry didn't mean to persecute you :-) My dislike is anything orange!! Yes, even roses!

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Baa, I must have missed your anti-rose note. Try the old ones, they are very liberating!

For myself, I'm against hard, orangy yellows, Oriental and Asiatic lilies and any others like them (can't STAND the scent!), euphorbias, and yuccas. There are more, but I'll wait for the howls on this bit!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL Kathleen - you won't hear howls from me!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I hate those fire engine red geraniums and big pom-pom marigolds. Both of them remind me of a neglected gas station planting. I don't care much for clipped foundation hedges either. A nice topiary is one thing but big triangles, balls, and squares don't do much for me.

I have to admit there's not many plants that I dislike. I'm willing to try almost anything once!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

My list includes: Cacti (outside), Yucca, Nandinas, holly bushes, just about any plain-jane typical suburbia shrub (especially stuck in the ground in a line), and the vote is still out on Cardoon, and Thistles- I have a Love/Hate thing going with those.

Oh, yeah...and anything that I manage to kill, I conveniently develop a "dislike" for- hehehehe.

Trish

Milford, CT(Zone 6a)

YUCCA.....an aptly named plant!!!!!!!

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Morning Glories!!!!!! They take over everything and are almost impossible to get rid of.....

Paul

Kathleen

It's any rose, thorny, disease/pest ridden things LOL

I like orange flowers, though, not everywhere but the occasional splash of colour is quite refreshing. One part of the border has become a sort of hot colour scheme. Red oreiental poppy mixes with Dianthus knappii, Alstromeria aurenticus (SP?), Digitalis purpurea and hot pink dianthus. Luckily they don't all bloom at the same time. LOL

I agree with the yucca being a disliked plant except when it blooms. Another misplaced plant in small gardens in my view

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I'm with you Trish and Carrigan, yucky, yucky YUCCAS!

Jerrie

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i don't like petunia's, the feel of them yuck! Marigolds stink and since i hate green peppers, i'll throw those in too! :-) i'm with you all on the schrubs. expecially when they are overgrown. oh yeah, now that reminds me of my biggest dislike in that same family, the wandering juw (sp?) i hate that stuff with a passion. :-)
and of course i'm getting a dislike for the maple tree because of its hearty procreation in my garden beds. those little "helicopter" seeds are still sprouting in my gardens. I hate them with a passion!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I must have weeded well of 20,000 of those babies. and that doesn't include the ones i swept up. ugh!!!!!!!!!!!and then doesn't my dh clean out the gutters and leave piles of them at the bottom of the spouts. ugh!!!!!!!!!i could have brained him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL his response, to piles of brown & green seeds. "they're dead". AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! LOL

ok, i feel better now. :-)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

So glad you got that off your chest debi...ROFL!!!

FSH, TX

Dislikes, hmm,kk, Passionflowers, Datura, and this plant given to me as an artichoke that is definitly not an artichoke. Towering over 15 ft in the air with tons of yellow daisy like flowers. Its a weed like the other weeds only worse. Spreads by runners and and by seeds. Biggest dislikes are anything that takes over the yard without any effort.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Baa, I have a rose that doesn't have any thorns and doesn't seem to get any diseases, but I don't know what it is, so I can't tell you what to get.

Debi, I'll trade you your maples for my ash trees!!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'll trade those maples for crepe myrtles!! I love em, but they are the worst about coming up everywhere:( and we have two very large ones right over the pond. They were there first, so it's my fault:)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Kathleen - the thornless rose could be Zephrine Drouhin!

Louisa that is the one. Still don't like 'em, they are PINK!

Stubborn Baa Stubborn LOL

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

OK Baa - sheesh you are hard to please!! You cannot in all honestly not like Graham Thomas - now come on - be honest!! :-) P.S. And Buff Beauty!~!

Never met him...is he rich? and if so is he single? LOL

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

ALL bedding plants except the South African daisies.

Mark

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Louisa, this isn't Zephrine - it's only semi double and much to purply for her. I thought it might be one of the Canadian roses, but have been told not.

Baa, you couldn't be a farmer if you weren't stubborn. I'll get to you yet, though. Check out the pic on the id page and tell me that isn't a lovely, lovely flower!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

There are quite a few roses that are thornless - Zephrine was the first one that sprang to mind. I'm sure there was a thread on thornless roses in the rose forum some time back.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

CARNATIONS! They have a smell that is overpowering and makes me feel like I am at a funeral everytime I smell them!I simply do not like them....AT ALL!

Here, we have honeysuckles, they come up everywhere and constantly pulling them up not to mention the ---WANDERING JEW' I gave a neighbor 3trash bags and she loves it,not me'

And of course the elm, maple and catalpa seeds coming up everywhere' Debi_Z is my DH there cleaning your gutters?LOL What a nightmare'''And don't think you're saving money on birdseed either, you'll really hate yourself,BINDWEED'''

As far as the love/hate morning glories, can't do without their quick cover and color'I just keep mowing, and mowing'

And my biggest HATE is formal yards, gardens, whatever' Planning/design in landscaping is important but rows of little"soldiers" drive me nuts'LOL DH wanted some privacy and planted privets, good idea' Then guess who pruned them,me'I've let them go natural for the birds nesting' He grits his teeth but until he drags out the ladder and works all day/evening they'll provide shade too'''LOL

But the all time biggest headache is BERMUDA GRASS' I should have stock with Roundup''We installed some utilities 4yrs. ago and had to backhoe deep' Yep,4foot down was bermuda roots, true'''

I feel better now, thanks for listening, grabbing the roundup and going to battle'''See ya' Sis''Z5(NE KS.)

Has to be the pecan trees here! If it weren't for that good ole shade they provide. But NOT their little ones they produce all over our yard!! And the YUCKY,icky, sticky stuff they drip and get on everything! Plus those 100 mil stringy things they drop all over your yard and stain all your patio stuff!BUT hope they don't hear me>>only shade we have!
Re what other gardeners dislike >>send everything thisa way. When you go thru a drought ,we seem to appreciate anything ,anywhere!
Some feedback here: re Yuccas ..thought ALL Texans liked 'yucky' YUCCAS!I love mine,I like a desert scene in some areas.
Morning glories: it's my glorie [no,take it back] Jesus is!..It's a glorie to draw the curtains and see your m/g's blooming in the shade in the morning!
Scented flowers e.g., Petunias >> don't feel them just smell them! Others>> good therapy! Geraniums >>gotta have that sun loving red . Honeysuckle>> awwww, love the spring blooming scent but 'ain't' got no more.Wouldn't mind it popping up everywhere!Only privacy we really had.
Fancy ,trimmed And proper yards>> for the rich and famous!Colors>> My yard comes alive w/yellows and oranges! But I love hot pinks!.........ok ,this is NOT a 'what plants do you love' thread...just being a gardener here ..Jane

Circleville, OH(Zone 8b)

Oh I couldn't be without roses, but almost every other thing that pricks forget it wont be in my yard.
And yuccas, catci, black plastic and rock mulch no thank you. That was the rage in New Mexico and I hated it.
Thank you I needed that,I feel better now. Mike

Port Huron, MI(Zone 5b)

Personally, there are no plants that I dislike. There are;however, some that I prefer not to own. My son has a wonderful collection of cacti, and they are all unique and attractive...I wouldn't want them because they just aren't my cup of tea, but I do enjoy his when I go and visit.
Sandy

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Ditto to Sandy's post. The only plant i truly dislike is bermuda grass and that is only because it is so difficult to pull from the flower beds. There are many I don't chose to grow (e.g. mums) but can appreciate almost any flowering plant in the right setting.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Big - any flower that is truly BIG and blousy!! I like little flowers!!

Fulton, MS(Zone 7a)

LOL sorry folks i like them all. I've even been watching a certain weed to see what it does, its odd big and ugly right now but it was very pretty (i thought a few weeks back)
