Wow, first one (besides Julie) on a new thread! That's because I just finished pouring the last batch of candles for tonight and I've REALLY got to get to bed --- six AM comes all too soon.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the words of encouragement. Anyone who wants to take a look at my website, there's a link on my member page. 101, I'm really glad that you were able to get something out of the site. I can't figure out how to describe a picture adequately without making it into full page description! Any feedback (including negative) would be most appreciated from anyone on this forum.

I'll try to catch up with you all later.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Elaine, please take care and I hope the morning finds you better.

Jas, I have been here and I am lost most of the time...

Defo, I have silk plants through out the house. High spots I know I will forget to water or don't get sun. I gather them every couple of months, throw them all in the pool and let them soak for about a hour, fish them out with a net, rinse them off with the hose and let them dry off before placing them back. Silk plant cleaner doesn't work as well and this way is less expensive...
I also have express mailed the 2X4's to ya. I think I am done beating on the child for a bit...

McCool, great website.

Hope all have a fall/slip/trip free night.....

Good Morning Every One.

24 hours ago it was 50' now it is 27' brrrrr
Thanks all for asking how Samson is. He is doing just great, right now is playing with his tennis ball, wants me to play fetch but it is too early for me lol
Had a perm once in my life when very young, never again, wondered who that was in the mirror
The recipe for Indian Pudding, Defoe, is in the old Betty Crocker Cook book :
THE PURITAN WOMEN LEARNED TO MAKE IT FROM THE INDIANS. IN NEW ENGLAND, IT ALWAYS IT IS SHARED IN
THE BRICK OVEN WITH BAKED BEANS We serve it with cream
Hope you are feeling better today, 101, what a nasty fall!
Morning, Julie, don't stay away!
Casey, I know all about bright kids, very difficult at times to communicate with.
Sarv, juk, about eating that venison, don't blame you.
McCool you just told me where to find your website, emailed you before on Dmail, lol

Good Morning! Would you believe I have slept a straight 5 hours the past two nights!! I don't know what is causing the good sleep, but I'll take it!! Now I have the itchies in the neck area -Have had it before and it does go away, but is very annoying while it is here.

Before the night was over I had three pieces of pie. Might as well finish it off for breakfast this morning!

Today is the day I visit the MIL. Give me patience!! I've called one of my DS for several days and he never returns the calls, grrr that is so annoying.

Darius, glad your sis is coming to give you a hand. Pack those signed prints carefully!!

Hope no one else had the stumbles in the night. We keep a night light on and it practically looks like daylight in the house. It leads right to the bathroom - can't live without it!

Who ever recommended burts bees for the feet- THANK YOU I haven't been crack free for years and my feet are getting smoother by the day. It used to be when I walked across the carpeting you could hear me coming with the ripping of the carpet - now I just glide across with little noise. Been using it for about a week.

Hope all is well with everyone else!!

Deer season opened this past Tues. That's all the news is - is showing deer camps with multi deer hanging and big gutted guys bragging. So far no deaths - which is a good thing!

Come one Julie - talk to us.....we miss you..

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

wow - in bed with the light out by 11:30 last night and slept right through till the alarm went off this morning (and a bit more). Don't have much time now - have to be at work in a n hour and haven't eaten breakfast yet.

McCool why don't you post the link to your web site here? I'll try to get to your member page, but it will have to wait till later. Congratulations on your sale and hope there are many more.

Busy day yesterday, but I'll have to try to catch up with everything later.

Have a good day everyone.

Morning GOBs. Barely light outside, making me exceedingly grateful I don't have to get dressed and go to work. Will check in again later but wanted to say to McCool, FABULOUS website!! Easy to navigate, gorgeous jewelry and super gift baskets! Candles are so unique, and the treasure chest ones are simply charming! Good job! I'm sending the link to everybody on my mailing list because the prices are very reasonable for these kinds of personalized gifts.

Later............need coffee.......

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good Morning! Beautiful crisp clear morning here. I have lots of energy on mornings like this. Too bad I have to waste it at work. LOL Could use it better at home.

Defo - I make my stuffed peppers in a tomato sauce. Inside they have hamburger and rice. I know, I know with spaghetti that alot of starch, but the kids don't usually eat the stuffed peppers, so they use the sauce on the pasta.

Sarv- I will be sending good thoughts your way regarding the visit with MIL. DH wants to take his mom for dinner tomorrow night. Yippee, Yahoo (NOT!) The only thing we agree on is that we love her son.

Deer season starts here on the first Mon. in Dec. DS has take off work the first 3 days. He got his first deer last year. If he gets one this year, I hope it's as good as the last one. Tender, no gamey taste.

My mother gave me a perm once. That was the one and only time i ever did the home job. She left it on a little too long and lets just say my hair was a little thinner when we were done. I was in Jr. high at the time, so it probably didn't look as bad as I thought it did. Thank goodness my hair grows fast!

Check in later, Have good day!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Brrrrrrrrrrrr... cold here this morning! It was a low of 19º overnight, 25º when I got up at 7:30, and with the sun coming over the mountain, it's now up to 29º. I don't think I will make my trip into town until at least noon unless I can find my silk longjohns!

Quoting:
OLD-FASHIONED INDIAN PUDDING

1 quart scalded milk
1/3 cup yellow corn meal
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup molasses
1 good teaspoon ginger

Put the scalded milk and corn meal in the top of a double boiler over boiling water. Add the salt and cook, stirring frequently for about 20 minutes. Mix with the molasses and ginger and pour into a buttered 2-quart soufflè dish or baking dish. Bake in a 300°F. oven for about 2 hours. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

LOL, Darius, thanks, was going to do that if any one wanted it, we also put in a handful of raisins, a modern addition t please the children

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Reminds me of rice pudding- now that I LOVE!! In fact, maybe I'll whip up some just for me today! Brrr Darius, that is cold for so far south! It was 21 here this morning and typical gloomy Michigan weather. I do crave the sun!

My mom told me that they plan on selling their place in Fla - wish we were able to buy it. If DH were closer to retirement age, we'd do it, but he has to work a few more years as he has no pension etc.

I sat my bottom in a chair and finished a book I had been reading for a week - it was ok - just when I thought I wouldnt finish it, something exciting happened! Munched on a pop tart while reading- naughty me!!

No big plans (in fact NO plans at all) for this weekend. I'd like to do something fun, but can't decide what it would be - anyone have any ideas???

Well, gotta get going to the huff and puff.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning Gobs and 'Ettes!

I got to sit in the ER with DH last night, he was involved in a forklift accident at work. He is OK, just very sore and banged up. He was operating a stand-on pallet jack and a newly hired guy hit him with a forklift. Dh went flying. Both of them were transported to the hospital per company policy for exams and drug/alcohol tests. They are both now on paid leave for 3 days until all the tests come back clean. If the drug/alcohol test comes back as positive, that person is fired on the spot. Dh doesn't have to worry about that on his end, but he isn't so sure about the guy that hit him. All employees are screened prior to being hired, but there is a huge meth problem here so you never know. Two of the guys that dh works with brought me the car last night, I woke Nathan up and told him I was going to make sure daddy was ok. We made it back home just in time to get him up for school.

Anyway, while I was waiting I thought about whether or not to post a thread about the bus vandalism here. I'm still so mad about it, and I do think it is important enough to let others know about it. I have it half written in my head so I will go work on the rest now. I'll post a link when I get it finished. BTW, the total is up to 29 buses now.

I01, scalp wounds do bleed bad. Sometime I will have to tell you all about walking into the Er with a cut up head, covered in blood and tranny fluid.

Have a bloomin' day!

Here's the link to my post.

Please add your comments, I think I need to hear I'm not the only one who would like to have 5 minutes alone with those responsible. Or have them thrown in the gym with the parents.

Hi
Do you guys mind if I crash your thread for awhile? i'm crazy bored, have been cleaning since 7 am. All of a sudden, I'm thinking, now what? i've had enough for now and the washing machine has lost its entertainment value.

what are gobs and 'ettes?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Dorothy, Gobs are Glorious Old Broads and "Boys" (over 50) and 'ettes are wannabes, just younger.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi dmc and Welcome to Coffee!

GOBs and 'Ettes are Grand Old Broads or Boys, over 50ish. 'Ettes are GOBs-in-training!

Enjoy!

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Oh i like that...can I be an honorary GOB? I'm 47 but you're as young as you feel, which for me is about 72,

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

dcm, I completely agree!

Would you mind adding your thoughts to that post as well?

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

I added my rant. don't get me started! It is just scary what our society seems to be coming to. I try not to think about it.

Look who I adopted yesterday (this is for a smile. get my blood pressure down....ooh I'm not liking what's going on in the world)

Good morning.

Mg, that's scarry. I've made a couple of trips with husband and kids to the ER. I'm glad your DH will be ok after this forklift accident. As you know, when machines hit people the people always loose. Good company policy might also include random drug and alcohol tests just to keep it a safer workplace, but I know there has been a lot in the news about discrimination with random testing. Those who need testing feel discriminated against, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why. Has the school bus vandal(s) been caught yet? It's probably kids but somebody who knows about mechanical things and I would guess somebody who has a grudge against the school. Kids who do rotten stuff usually can't keep their mouths shut so they are often easy to catch.

Twenty degrees and frosty again here this morning, it almost looked like snow before the sun came up. It's going to be another sunny day so might get up to about 40 by mid afternoon. As soon as I get dressed and feed the horses I'll bet busy on another bunch of those ripe tomatoes and get yesterday's batch put away in the basement storage room.

Darius, thanks for the Indian Pudding recipie, I might have to try that. I make cornmeal mush every now and then and put the excess in a pan to chill and have sliced and fried another day which is what my breakfast will be this morning. Hubby doesn't like it so it's all for me!

Ernie, I referred you to the wrong post on the 14th thread. I posted there again so hope you will go look and find the right one. I noted the posting time again. Sorry for the confusion.

Gotta get busy. Have a great day everyone.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

MG, I am still shocked that anyone could do this to poor innocent children. I hope they catch whoever did this and throw the book at them.
I am also sorry to hear about your DH. Hope he is doing ok. At my work, I used to always be afraid of the forklift drivers because they drive so fast and never liked those forks coming at you to cut you in 1/2.

Casey, didn't post yesterday but want to comment on your so called stupid daughter. I have an 18 year old son who is just as stupid at times. He has done things just like you mentioned. So hope she will pay you back for the damage since she didn't do the right thing at the accident. My son did take drivers's ed. and did learn a few things on how to act at an accident, so that did help. But they are still young and learning but at our cost, of cours.

Elaine, so sorry to hear about you falling at nite time. Hope your head is healing and not too sore anymore.

Sarv, am glad that you are sleeping better at nite now. Keep it up. Maybe it is the cold weather and you are hibernating, lol.

McCool, congrat on your sale. I did look at your website and will go back for a closer look later. The site looks great and will recommend it to my friends.

Maria, throw the tennis ball for Samson for me a few times. I used love throwing the ball for my dog as a kid. Hours and hours down the hall with him screaming after the ball. hehe.

Dmc, hi, fine, just drop in with a bite to eat for us all here.
I have some peanut butter cookies on the counter for a snack for you all.

It froze hard here last nite. I woke up this morning and I was so surprised to see such heavy frost on the lawn and plants. It was 26 degrees!

Well, now for my NEWS of the day!
I am driving up to the airport in about a hour. To pick up my son who is coming home from ASU (Arizona State University) for a dental school interview in Portland on Monday!!!!
Can't wait to see him. Has been 3 months since I have seen him and miss him terribly.

So later all,
Carol (DR)

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

OOH cookies.
I'm just so thrilled there are people out there!! I'm having some sort of midmorning crash or existential crisis or something. It's from cleaning.....or trying....I'm so bad at it.

Gayle how is DH? And I do hope you will keep us posted on the bus investigation. I try not to get apoplectic...but boy it can be hard.

I'll try to sit politely and mind my manners while I eat some cookies.
Thanks!!

WOW missed like three days of posts with volunteering at son's school all week.

Busy people here that is for sure - not that you would miss my pitiful trying to keep up check in posts but I am trying to catch up today LOL

I hope all are well I tried not to miss any illness any may have.
Ernie Jenny in her food dish asleep is the cutest thing ever!!!!

NOW I must go comment on the bus thing for MG I have a 5 year old first year on the bus and I am terrified at him just riding it let alone.... if some %##^&**^%#$$%@%#^% cuts the brake lines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOT vandalism ATTEMPTED murder they knew full well children would be on those buses!
MY heavens I have never heard of anything so horrible! I am beside myself with anger and agree 5 minutes in the gym with the parents would be enough for me!
I have to stop or I will get kicked off for what I think should be done to such criminals!!!!

OK deep beath.....
Anne

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

I just went back and read the bunch of posts that happened while I was slowly typing mine. Dmcdevitt, tell us about the horse. And you are welcome to stop in anytime.

Mg, I'll check out the link. See you all later.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

My kids are 18, 16, and 14, and I've had to work at NOT imagining bus accidents since the day I waved goodbye to the eldest going to kindergarten. The thought that someone cut brake lines, and that there will surely be copycats, and that there are thousands of buses that now will have to be guarded is overwhelming.

I have found out I am not a good mom and not a good nurse but I am trying, Linda feels much better today and is going to physical therapy so I guess the wrest is over now the long haul starts in ernest. lol

Mary will look again tonight.

Jenny continues to gain and is looking better all the time .

ok all have a good day off to work now. Ernie

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Hey Mary
She's a 7 month old filly, an accidental baby of a quarterhorse and paint. She's going to be my anti-depressant, blood-pressure lowering personal trainer. I just can't look at her without smiling.
The world gets me down. The horses get me back up again. This filly, Tully, is my fourth. The others are 2 standarbred adoptees, and a beautiful Quarab adopted as a filly.

I don't know why they make me so happy, they just stinkin DO!!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Another cold foggy morning. Pups began yipping about 5:00 when DW's alarm went off so it was get-up time for me too. I like foggy mornings for taking pictures, but not when it's so cold out.

Casey, is there still a place called "Warm Springs Ranch", it used to be just outside of town nearest the California side. (now THAT'S a clear description). Had belonged to Roy Rogers at one time, remember him ?, and had a pool filled with warm artesian well water. We rented the pool cabana for a short time, around 1950 I think. Vegas has changed a little since then hasn't it. Always remembered that place fondly.

Has anyone looked for recipes in the "Uncle Phaedrus" site ? He finds recipes on request and has the biggest inventory I've seen. if anyone is interested it's at : www.hungrybrowser.com/phaedrus.

Ernie, there are 3 Goldens at Immy's Obedience class. They are gorgeous and so wonderfully trained. Glad to see Jenny is picking up a little 'baby-fat', hope the rest of the kids are well too (and you and DW too, of course).

Sarv, that pie for breakfast sounds great, seeing MIL doesn't. Good luck. Munched on a pop tart while reading a book ?? What's wrong with that? (Must have been out of oreos)

MG, glad DH is OK. That could have been a terrible accident.

Darius, thats really chilly. Is your heater working without contaminating the indoor air ? Hope the plants didn't suffer. Holding good thoughts for your forthcoming Dr. Appts.

Time to warm up the shop and get down to some serious whittling. Sure wish there was some pie to snack on for breakfast. Some people have all the luck Sarv.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Welcome dm - yuck 3 teenagers!!! Hang on tight, they can take ya for some wild times!!! Don't get me started!!! Went thru that and don't care to return!! Anyhow, quit all that cleaning!!! You're making me feel inadequate...

Back from the huff and puff and about bust a gut laughing...About half way thru the work out, I looked down and had my work out pants on INSIDE OUT!! And no one noticed!! I just kept them on the rest of the workout and even went to get myself a cappiccino with them that way. Did make me laugh!!

mg- scarey to be tangling with a forklift. I think giving drug tests is great!! I also think firing them is ok too. Drink on the weekend.... Hope DH is feeling better and you have recovered from sitting in the ER (hate them places!)

Ernie- I still don't know what happened to Linda. I am sure you are a wonderful nurse....

DR- give your son a hug from me too!! Hope things work out for the dental school for him (now I've got a tooth that is bothering me.....LOL)

Geek - enjoy your vacation time!! What fun thing are you going to do ?? Shopping, cleaning (NOT), vegging out!

I'm watching Martha Stewart teaching a man to iron. She uses a towel on top of her ironing board - never heard of that!! Drat- wish she would get on with it!! (commercial)

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

sarv - I'm done for this year. Thanks for the smack upside the head. I needed that. But you're working out? I hate anything that starts with "working". I've gone out with two different sneakers...and they're noticeably different. And then it's all I can think about. Wonder why? who cares? But it becomes a big deal to me.

Hope Martha doesn't slip with the iron!!

what did I miss in my speed reading??
MG oh no!!!!

Had to check a few threads but spending the day with my new best friend, the heating pad. Hope everyone else is doing well, but I can't sit for long...better tomorrow I hope.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

MG~I hope DH is feeling good this morning. What a fright for you too. I hate getting those calls at work that there has been an accident.

Darius and Mary~Brrrrrr.....

Sarv, have you thought about a migraine headache yet??? I hope your dinner plans are quick....

DMC~Welcome and beautiful pony you have. Mine kids are 18, 17 and 11. But as you know the 18 may not be here much longer...

DR~DD took drivers ed (required), and had to watch a video on the procedures of dealing with the police in certain matters. (required) I haven't done a thing for her to pay me back for damages. She is 18 has her own insurance, the car is hers and in her name solely and she will be using her own money to fix it. I just get so steamed at her lack of priorities when it comes between responsibility and her friends with the plans they have made....

Bal~we still have a Warm Springs Ranch sorta. Its now Warm Springs Park, and you wont be renting any cabanas from there. LOL. It is now a nature park. Per the selling contract with Roy Rogers, it was suppose to remain a free range area for equestrian riders until 2020. The park is only open from dawn to dusk. When it was sold for this purpose money was placed into an account to help support the upkeep for the duration of the 50 years but as ussual our city officials have found a loop hole. They have taken out trees and ground cover and put in soccer and baseball fields. The lake/pool that was heated had been drained and relined 4 times to the tune of 2 million dollars, but a leak could not be found or fixed so it was filled in with dirt and now its a host to some mimosa trees. So the money to support its upkeep is gone and there for it has become the responsibility of the city to maintain. Its sad really. People here want to remember the past but no one is willing to preserve it.... The Westward Ho, one of the last original casinos here closed its doors on Wednesday night and is slated for demo in January for an expansion to the Circus Circus adventuredome project...

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

dmc,
Beautiful new baby you have there,,,can see why horses make you happy,,,,they sure are fun.

sarv,
Not sure yet,,,maybe just vegging,,,maybe cleaning,,,can Always get more done without the OC around LOL Usually put the Christmas lights up outside during the opening weekend,,,but we'll see how the weather is. Um, maybe want to turn a light on whilst getting dressed in the a.m.? LOL

mg,
Will put my comments about bus on your other thread,,,,don't want to take up that much room here.
Hey about yesterday's desert thing,,,you never answered,,,,what does the shrink say if one chooses a bite of all of them? Yes, I am a shrinks nighmare,,,ROFLOL

m5,
Hope you start to feel better.

Well everyone,,,,,didn't have much time, just wanted to check in,,,,Hope everyone has a Great day. Will check back later.

Good Morning GOBs and 'Ettes! My how you all do go on! I'm cross-eyed just trying to catch up on everything. But, I've got to say, everyone is staying rather busy in their lives :-) I sort of skimmed through the last two days of posts and I think for the most part was able to catch up on most of the goings-on.

Ernie, I'm sure whatever you do for your wife will be just fine. It's hard to be a nurse to someone, especially when you are married to them. I think you are more sensitive to their aches and pains than if you are working with someone you have no emotional ties to. I didn't catch actually what had happened to her, but it sounds like she's had some sort of orthopaedic injury? I deduce that from your statement, "going to physical therapy". Whatever the case may be, please accept my heartiest praise for your efforts on her behalf.

MG, I'm sorry for your hubby's injuries. I hope he will be ok and recover quickly. I'm sure you must have been very concerned to learn he'd been in such an accident. Forklifts can be very scary. When one thinks of how many pounds of steel are coming at them with so much force, it's pretty frightening.

dmcdevitt, welcome to *Coffee and....* I think you will find a very nice home here. The folks who visit here and post are so very welcoming and kind. They are an eclectic group and have so many talents and interests. You'll NEVER be bored. The side effect of all this is, there is something to learn here every day. I'm ever amazed at the abilities of the folks who come here and their generosity in sharing their knowledge and talents.

darius, I hope and pray all your troubles are soon to be gone. It sounds to me as though you've had quite the row to hoe these past several weeks. I think it's high time you had a break in some of the action and get a little time off from your troubles. Maybe once you settle in Florida (is it?) you'll finally be able to slow things to a more moderate pace.

For the rest of you, if I didn't mention you by name, please know I think of each of you and send you my care today. I don't wish to make a long post, but it's not to say any of you are forgotten or less thought of.

I need to hop into the shower here soon. I have to go draw my Mum's labs and turn them in so her doc will have the results for Monday. My hubby and I are attending a dinner and show for the E-7's and above in his command this evening. So, I've got to get my hair washed and put up for the soiree. I hope everyone has a wonderful day wherever you are and please above all, stay safe!

With hugs and care, ~Babs~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back from the MIL's- I've found if I make my visits short it is easier on me!! I only stay an hour. I used to go have coffee and peanuts with her, but she really gets a going then!! Now it is just before her nap time and she is more mellow! I was telling her about my success with burt's bees stuff for my feet and she shouted "well if you wouldn't go bare foot, you wouldn't have the problem" - I shouted right back "I DON"T go barefoot!!" Her eyes kinda bugged out at me! I shouldn't have snapped like that, but OH WELL>>>>>

I"m listening to xmas music on the radio now and merrily singing along with it- always puts me in a good mood.

When my DH is sick (thank goodness that's not often at all), he just wants to be left ALONE! Don't talk to him or heaven forbid ASK him how he's doing. I've learned just to ignore him and make chicken soup. I offered to once give him a back rub and he groused back that he hated to be touched!! Me on the other hand loves a back, foot, hand = whatever rub (except my head) Opposites do attract I guess!

Took the arm rest cover things off DH chair - they were filthy - stuck them in the washer on gentle cycle- hope they survive!! Sheesh, I will never get a light pattern on his chairs again!! It's a green viney pattern and it looks like the vines on the arms have gotten hit by frost!!

Not doing lights outside here this year...I found a new xmas tree tho !! Just gotta get DH to go with me to get it - now that may be a problem!! Gotta get a moving....take care all

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

It has warmed up and so I am off to town. I need half and half for a pot of Vichyssoise I have started, and I need to stop by the U-Haul place since they never answer the phone. (They have just moved so maybe the telephone hasn't, LOL)

Got a lot of small things done this morning: ordered telephone disconnect, ditto for my ISP, renewed my domain names, and renewed my internet-based email (blind re-direction) for my domain names since I don't have web sites yet, and soup started. Plus, the rest of my packing supplies (bubble wrap and anti-static peanuts) came today so I'm ready to start packing... BUT FIRST (LOL) I have to clear a space to put the boxes.

Later...

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Well, I did post earlier and it must have gone into cyberspace. SO>>>>>>>>>>>

Good afternoon everyone...Finally got my net back...Comcast shut me down yesterday afternoon and I never got it back until noon today. Bummer. I won't even attempt to catch on all you gabby people....so Hi, thinking about you all.

Hugs.
