Julie, I am so glad that you are feeling so much better, but I think if you take the nitro first and then post you will be able to get in a few more taps that say what is happening and maybe get the spelling right so I dont envision you falling to the floor as you click send and not being able to edit them....
Remember that Magoobu and I have OCD and its horrible to worry about you.
DR~welcome home. It great that dad and mom are doing so much better.
Sarv~I have been lucky so far that none of my kids have decided that they enjoy Rap. I think I would have to rid the house of electricity if that happened. I can handle alot. But Rap is not there...
Have a great day everyone.....
Casey
Coffee and...For Nov 14, 2005
Whew, now we can relax and pick on Julie.....since she's home and recovered. You have nitro and you don't take it??? Gimme the two by four, Julie needs a swat!!! But we are relieved and happy that you are all right. Don't scare us like that again. DH has a list of things he has to do if I drop dead, and one is to post something like I've gone out to lunch permanently....at least you will know I'm not mad at something that was said, or given the heave ho like K. I.
I'm in the midst of sewing a cover for the hassock that goes with the chair that I bought the $10 slipcover for last month, it's a big pain in the patootie but is taking up a lot of my time.
I love that lamp!! I love stained glass, my DIL does it, but hasn't progressed to lampshades. Yet.
Gotta get back to work. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Okay, everyone seems to be discussing music preferences, so I'll tell you mine. I only listen to Christian music. Now my reason for this is ... I decided one day when I heard one of my most fav little girls in the whole wide world singing a country song I just adord word for word that had the d$$$ word in it that I had a choice of what I listened to and exposed little ears to in my own home. I started becoming aware of the language on TV and in the everyday music ... and I thought ... you know, this just really isn't necessary. These little 4 and 5 year olds are going around singing these songs ... and I just made that choice. Okay, I hope I didn't offend anyone, because I certainly didn't mean to. I love most all kinds of music. :)

This message was edited because it's not a laughing matter.
Elaine...as long as I'm here...it IS a laughing matter! And if I'm *not* here...laugh ANYWAY!! It's the best kind of medicine! And if I were to croak off...I hope someone posts the funniest MAXINE cartoon they can find as a proper send off for me. (Seriously!!)
Hi Mary!~ Have fun out shopping...and try to look for some of those bargins you're famous for finding, ok?
Sheila...PUT the 2by4 AWAY! And let's hope we ALL have someone who will post the "Permanently OUT to LUNCH" sign for us. After all, we wouldn't to make people think we were Pi$$ed at them. LOL (I worry about that, too.)
Now...will you guys STOP putting my name in your posts?! I *have* to do some serious reading here. And if you keep talking to me, I have to answer! :-) (Do yourselves a favor and SHUT UP!!! LOL)
~julie~
Now have not said much, Julie, so do not tell me to shut up, besides Samson keeps me very busy, lol
Maria...you made me LOL with that one! (Sorry...I shouldn't have said "shut up"...just drop it already! LOL)
~julie~
;-)))))), Julie
Well, I would love to have a cell phone.
I used to have one but had to give it up last year because I couldn't hear on it anymore. With my hearing loss and now the tinnitus (ear ringing, this another long story sometime to post), I can't distiguish what people are saying so it wasn't worth the money anymore each month. I used to love my cell phone.
If I could text the emergency people, that would work. But this is in the future.
Julie... glad things are okay! I hate the immediate headache from nitro but I guess it beats the alternative.
DR, I have to use the speakerphone on my cell phone to really hear well, plus be off the road and have all the windows up to curtail road noises.
Carol - I think the scariest, in regard to aging parents, was when I realized that I was "parenting" my mother and she was acting like a little child. This was when she was still at home but the early signs of dementia were there.
And Julie - thanks for letting know how things are going. I think we were all worried.
Ann
Ann, I agree. It was strange and very hard for me to accept that the roles had switched and I was now the parent who had to watch their every move to keep them safe.
Julie, just make sure you have those nitro pills on the trip over the border.
Darius, there is nothing wrong with my hearing (dont tell the family I have them convince otherwise) and I need to windows up and everything quiet to hear when in the car also.
Casey
I don't know if anyone else has noticed or not, but WHERE IS THE FOOD!!!!! I'm starving! Now I will have a *large* pot of chili on later, but right now all I see is an empty counter. Julie, you behave!, and don't take anything that isn't good for you. We have all had our "scare" for now. Coffee and.... just wouldn't be right without you - so take care, and take your meds!
does anyone have a crumb or two for this poor starving waif?
Tgif, I have some left over coffee cake on the counter. I ate all the fried green tomatoes that I didn't get frozen so can't offer those. Oh, I do have a nice cheese roll (sharp cheddar) and beef stick from Hickory farms in the frig I can get out for you with some crackers if you like.
Coffee's good, sweets are not top on my list for myself, but DH still needs to gain about twenty pounds. I give him all the sweets in the house. Right now a nice tray of fresh veggies and dip would be great - let me see what I have on hand. Maybe that would keep me going! Meanwhile, I'll join you with the coffee, thanks.
Okay, so I lied - I love coffee cake! The cheese roll and beef stick sounds great but lets keep it for later. The cake and coffee will get me through.
I will offer the chili tonight, but it will really be better tomorrow or the next day. I plan it for Wed supper along with fresh, hot cornbread. (Does anyone have a good recipe for Mexican cornbread? Somehow I managed to live in Arizona for 2 1/2 years and didn't get a recipe for it.)
Ah, the coffee and coffee cake hit the spot. Thanks!
Have some lasagna left from the other night, and the cranberry sauce is cooling on the stovetop. Pretty slim 'pickins, but with the rest of the offerings there should be enough. It is still a beautiful sunny day. We got most of the front cleaned up. Filled that huge wheeled yard waste thing but missed the mornings pick-up.I love the smell of lavender when it is being pruned. Still a lot of clean up to do, and haven't even started on the backyard. I suppose now would be a good time to grab a bite to eat and take a nap.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Gooooooooooooooooood!
OK, I'm making beef and snow pea stir fry for dinner and I'll use the extra rice to make rice pudding. Since I don't have any raisins, I'll substitute chocolate chips like I did last time, check the counter, we'll be making a good dent in it after dinner....!!
DD and DH are making spagetti and garlic bread. Yummy....
Oh snow pea's are one of my favorites. I will not eat peas from a can. They are just wrong, so I only get frozen. I avoid buying fresh or advertised fresh peas at the store. They are flavorless. They don't grow here at all. I can get the vine to start, but very few will set and then the it dies. Another reason to move to SC....
wow I was gone today at 5 Am for a shopping trip with my Mom and sister! whew what a day we had and then come home and see "what's her name" (cannot say it not allowed) she would have to answer me LOL'
So "whatever that girl's name is" Has been not feeling well the gets back up and on her feet and does what we all should do ---Laughs out loud!!!!!
Koudos to you "whatever your name is I must have forgotten or been told not to use it"
BUT
Thinking of you and your zest for life and LAUGHTER!!!!!!
You go girl!!!!!!
Evening everyone - went shopping for 5 hrs today - glorious- just love shopping!!! Bought myself some berts bees for the feet, some bb lip stuff and a couple of beautiful serving dishes (my downfall!!)
Speaking of music, I just remembered this - when my boys were teens they were out by the barn souping up their cars. Of course they had their rap/rock music on full blast! I stopped to listen and heard "f*^% your mamma" repeated over and over. I went right out to the stereo, took the CD out and broke in in pieces - right in front of the boys. Told them I would not tolerate trash music in my house. They were really ticked that I broke their CD, but too bad for them - did they think I was going to sing along with it?? NOT
Well, just heard my son got his second deer of the year this weekend and is heading back up north tonight for opening gun season. which is tomorrow.
DH is building a fire, so I will soon be warm and cozy. I'm really tired tonight, so maybe I will sleep for several hours. Take care all!! Glad the 'no named ' person is back with us = sassy as ever too.
Love to know what your boys think of that now...have you ever asked them?
Jody
Sarv, you are so much nicer then me. My DD likes classic rock, but mostly listens to classical because of practicing it all the time. DS's listen to technorock, and classic rock and hate Rap. My neice on the other hand loved Rap music and Eminem was her favorite. The night I took custody of her she thought she was special and turned it on blaring after she locked the bedroom door. Did I say she was a very troubled teen. Well I tried the door, and found it locked. Went outside flipped the power off, when she came out screaming about the lack of power, took the drill and removed the door to her bedroom and placed that and her stereo in the shed. She used a sheet for a door and DH would go in and hmmm when she said she couldn't concentrate without music. Now that was funny.....
Casey
Casey,
How long ago was that, and what kind of music does she like now?
Jody
That was 7 years ago and I am not sure. Last I heard she was in a California prison for robbery and drug charges.
She decided after a few months of our silly rules and us insisting she needed more of a 5th grade education to run away and go back to her mother. The reason she was given to us is because she had told everyone that her mother beat her with a stick and belt leaving marks that are still hard for me to remember with out shivering. We have since discovered she was given this beating from mom and nieces boyfriend because she stole and sold there drug stash....
Casey,
I'm really sorry...I had hoped there was a happy ending. Hopefully, there still can be.
Jody
Carat - Sorry to hear that story about your niece. Kids have such a tough world to grow up in now. Been through tough times with the step-kids. So many bad influences in this world.
2 out of the 3 kids listen to country music. Stepdaughter listens to rap when in her car. Not allowed in the house, or even in the car if any of the rest of us are anywhere near. I don't see how she can listen to such degrading lyrics. Makes me sick.
Had a pot roast for dinner. I think I'm ready for bed. Didn't get as much sleep this weekend as I'd like.
Magoo & Sarv - Sounds like you both had good shopping days. Hope you found lots of bargains.
Hope "whats her name" is still feeling ok and keeping her meds handy.
I am sorry also. But I try not to think about it to much....
I had a great niece that stayed with me for a year when she was 5. She and her little brother & sister were picked up by social services when neighbors found them rummaging through garbage. She was so sickly that I had to line up medications and vitamins on an entire bookcase shelf. She had scabies, head lice, malnutrition, bronchitis, athlete's foot, etc.
She responded quickly and much to my shock, she was very bright. She went to kindergarten and caught up with all the kids quickly.
After a year, her parents were "rehabbed" and she went back to them after I got the spacers taken out of her mouth (she had rotten teeth that had to be pulled). The parents had to have a decent place to live and beds for all of them and be working. Well, within a few weeks, they had disappeared, living on the road. Since my sister-in-law (their grandmother) still had legal custody, we went down to the coast to find them. The father said he was going where we couldn't find him. It took me two days!
Eventually the mom left the dad and moved up to the mountains. But she still dated rough men and lived a Machivellian life.
Mary has been married about 4 times, now and has 5 kids. She is finally settling down and is after me to help her learn to garden. She has been doing that for some time now and has bought a home with her latest husband. I am helping her with the yard. I hope she will be OK.
She sent my spousal unit and I a long e-mail telling us how much she loved us and all we did for her.
Her Dad and her brother are both in jail for child molestation. I think the Dad is there for the long term.
Well anyone that will harm a child should be there long term.
Its hard to be in the middle of families when a childs care is involved. I hated it, it caused some major problems and although it didn't work out the way I had hoped I am glad that I did what I did and I would do it again. I know I can sleep at night and live with myself. Others who stood by and did nothing cant say as much......
WS - It's good she has you.
WoW!!! #8's ALL around!! Especially in Magoobu's post! LOL'd all the way through it. (Thanks!)
Darius...you're SO right about the 'head rush' instant headache with the Nitro...and you're also right about it being better than the 'alternative'. :-)
The Music...
Sarv...I *love* the way you work!! Casey...the "door off it's hinges" brought back one the funniest memories of my "almost adult 17 year old" rebellion that became the MOST embarrassing door-slam that never happened incident. (It had nothing to do with music but I can still hear the NO-SLAM door...and my now DH and my mother ROTFL *T* A'sO)
As for the Rap music...I *can't* stand it! And aside from nearly being run over by people talking on their cell phones while driving, hearing those dangedable BASE speakers coming a mile down the road (OR booming from somewhere down the block!) is my worst nightmare!! I know, I know...chill out julie...chill out! (I guess I'd better add barking 'yappy' dogs to the list as long as I'm letting it all hang out! :-D) Hmmmm...come to think of it those really are the three things that will set me off every time.
My kids listened to the 70's rock (Metallica, etc) but only when I couldn't hear it. Good News Jody! Both of them are now "Normal" sorta. The oldest has gotten "hooked" on the 50's and early 60's. The youngest...well...I'd have to say Country (but he still loves to turn on an Acid Rock station and turn it up just to see if I'm listening. He waits for the "TURN IT OFF!!" to come from across the back yard. LOL)
Well I have some threads I need to catch up on. Then I'll be back to start tomorrow's Daily.
~what's her name~
:-D
sounds good "whoever you are" wish I knew her name---- Oh well...
Check your threads and get some rest - whatever your name is.
Darn why is it I cannot remember that name???
Oh well night to you ... you ... oh you know who you are!!!
~what's her name~... you are TOO funny!
Add me to the list of those who hates Rap and cars with the BASS turned up so loud it rocks my vehicle 4+ cars away!
good night you.... I hope who ever it is figures it out by morning so she will know who we are talking about in the nightly threads..
Hi everyone,
Julie, glad to know you're feeling better. I never knew about any side effects of the nitro. I asked my mother who took three of the things a couple of nights ago and she reports she didn't get any headache from it, but her arm felt "tighter" after she took them. I noticed that she looked flushed as well.
Not a great day today. I found an article on the web about sewing leather (thank heavens for the internet!) and discovered all the things I was about to do wrong. We had to take another trip to the sewing store as I found that the cotton thread I'd bought was exactly the WRONG thing to use. I've now managed to get the three main pieces of the pattern sewed together (despite "help" from one of the cats who decided to wrestle with the pattern tissue and my sewing machine which suddenly will not stay set on a stitch size). Got tired of fighting with the deer hide, managed to smash a crystal wine glass, and wimped out on supper (canned beans and hot dogs, oh dear!). Enough is enough and I'm going to go chill out for awhile. I sure hope my SIL likes her Xmas present after all this fun I'm having.
Hope everyone has a good night.
Mary, I shivered when I read your post about snow and freezing fog. Here that is called "black ice"
DR, the pansies were given to me by a neighbor and friend. Her DS has a greenhouse and raises all her plants, they had an abundance and she brought me two trays. My mom is 87, and still gets around, although she has arthritis, and uses a walker. Don't they make cell phones with amplification for hearing impaired people? If they don't they really should!!, And I really ROTHFLMAO, about having the state patrol looking for you. What would you have done had they found you?
Julie, please switch number 1 and number 2. We can wait awhile for the posts, just take quick action to relieve the angina. DH has taken over the kitchen, because he is afraid you will burn yourself. And I laughed about your and sharp instruments. Does he have reason to the scared about that?
sarv, hang in there with the exercise, it is good for you, even though you haven't lost weight. Since muscle weighs more than fat, have you measured yourself, maybe you are loosing inches, if so then the pounds will start to come off. Boy that was a scary sounding incident with the truck brakes.
Carat, I don't have OCD, but am a worrier anyway. So just goes to prove you don't have to have it in order to worry. BTW, that cheese roll, sounded goo, but the spaghetti and garlic bread does too. I am glad that you tried to help out your relatives. I have been there and done that. Didn't have a pretty ending, but as you say, I couldn't stand by and watch and not do anything.
Meezer, sewing isn't my strong suit I admire anyone who can sew. It is just a frustrating experience for me. And the beef stir fry sounds so good. And I have instructed DH if I drop dead, after calling 911, he is to post here and say that I am permanently out to lunch. He said what does that mean, and I said don't question it just do it. Hope though that it will be many years before you see that message.
Viola Ann, know what you are talking about when you say you discovered that you were "parenting the parent" I am beginning to deal with that now. It is so sad.
tgif, what are you talking about, I told you that I had vegetable soup on the stove and help yourself, this was about 9:00 or there abouts. I will take you up on the chili tomorrow, that is one of my favorites. Do you want a "hot" mexican cornbread recipe. I have several.
Susieq, the pot roast sounds good.
Woodspirit, I am sure you are glad that you tried to help your great niece. It is unconsionable for adults to stand by and do nothing when kids are in situations not of their making.
Well, let me tell you about my day. Went out and planted the pansies first thing this morning. After doing that, needed to go to the bank, so ran into town, and back. Then out to weed a flower bed, and then I cleaned up a large hosta bed. Still have several more hostas planted around trees to clean up. But it started to rain here about 3:00. So I came in and rested and started supper. After supper, I had a lot of paperwork to get done, as I am secretary/treasurer of at least 7 orgainzations. Balanced check books, wrote checks and paid bills, and did some reports for church. I only worked on this about 5 hours. All of this is volunteer work, and was drafted for most in a weak moment. There was a time that I couldn't say no, so I was forever feeling like I was being taken advantage of. But you know when you are doing the job, people will just not let you resign. At the end of the month, I balance 10 checking accounts. That takes about all day.
Have you all noticed that there is a common theme running through all out posts? I just occured to me that everybody is seeking and cooking "cold weather" food. In the winter, we tend to have more soups. They seem so warm and comforting.
Well, we are experiencing rain again, with forcasts of severe weather over night, and again tomorrow. If I sleep as soundly as I have been, it will have to blow my house away for me to realize it. (I hope).
Well, I am going to go to bed, as DH has to be up at 5:30 in the morning, and I can't count on him, quietly leaving the house. Seems like the harder he tries the noisier he is.
Well good night to all, hope you have a restful night.
