Coffee and...For Nov 14, 2005
sorry, you do not feel well, Julie, hope you have a good night sleep.
Nov 13, 2005
10:54 PM
Ok guys...I just want to tell you I'm having some heart problems tonight. PLEASE don't worry! But if I'm not online tomorrow, Kelly, or Gayle...please take care of my Coffee and...thread, Ok?
I'm getting off here now.
~julie~
She posted this on the UMW forum. If I haven't heard from her by noon, I'm gonna track her down, I don't live that far away.
Be well Julie!
MG~Is there a reason you are waiting until noon to start tracking her down? And please as soon as you know ANYTHING let us know.
Casey
Julie~please take care
I figured noon would give her plenty of time to rest if she spent the night in the ER. So if she hasn't posted by noon, I'll start making phone calls.
The second I hear anything I will post.
mg,
I know I will be checking in early to see if she posts and how she is.
Kelly
Oh Julie, please, I hope all is well with you. Hope your heart situation isn't too bad. You are in my thoughts!!!!
Well, all,
Am finally home in my own home. Being away this past month for more than 2 weeks sure make me miss my own place.
But all is much better with my parents. Dad is walking now very slowly and limping with a cane. Is still quite weak with the left leg and arm. But has come a long ways!
I really enjoyed spending time with my parents tho. They are getting so much older that time is flying and they might not be here much longer so.... Love every min of the time with them tho.
Had an adventure on the way home tho.
First, there were 2 accidents on the main highway south thru WA & OR. These accidents were only 1/2 mile apart and each accident had 2-3 cars so smashed up. Looks like following too close. So it took me 2 hrs longer to head south.
BUT
I got to meet Balvenie (Robert) and Eweed (Ernie)!!!
First stopped at Ernie's. Had 3 golden ret. meet me at the door more or less. One is an older dog, but the others were babies. Andy is 6 months old and he is HUGE! Is almost the size of the older dog. Then Jenny is a small very cute 3 month old pup. The 2 babies were so cute playing together and getting all muddy in the yard following us around.
Ernie showed me his place and it was so nice. He has some greenhouses that we would all drool over. Some real nice raspberry canes, his tomatoes in the greenhouses still staked up and had some tomatoes even still on the vines, had a very nice sun room that he had built himself, flowers and shrubs all over the yard. Lots of nice different types of trees. He had a smoker and was taking out some salmon that he had just finished. So guess what, he gave me some to bring home. I ended up having some while waiting for those darn accidents to move along. It sure was good!!!
Met his wife, Linda, and she was sewing some very nice Christmas wall hangings for their relatives and friends. She had a large room that Ernie had built for her to sew in.
Then south to Robert. His house wasn't hard to find since it was the only one with nice wood cedar panelling on the outside. It looked just like him with the woodwork. Barb, his wife was there too so met her. I had taken my special telephone for hard of hearing to my parents so I got to let Robert try it out so he could see how the captions helped him hear on the phone. I think he enjoyed seeing that phone and may look into getting one for him.
Got to meet Emmy, their new cute puppy. Very cute and loved to be petted.
Robert has done a lot to his place with the woodworking and stained glass. He had a shop that looked just like my father's shop for doing stain glass work. He does a beautiful job on all these things. He is hand carving the wood work he has showed here earlier. So much details!!! What a guy!
His gardens were fun to look at. I am going to give him some dahlia tubers to try for next year so he will have something new to grow!
Darn it , I didn't take any pics of these guys either. Well, next time maybe.
Well, need to do more laundry so will make comments to others later.
P.S. Robert, this is a pic of the tiffany lamp that I was talking to you about that my Dad had made me a few years ago. There are 1000 pieces in this lamp!
Nite, all, Carol (DR)
Oh Carol (DR), how wonderful for you! Boy oh boy, I would sit in traffic forever if I got to eat smoked salmon and see Ernie and Robert! I'm so jealous, but I'm glad you got to visit them both and see their gardens. I am thrilled that your dad is doing so well. I know it is good to be home, my sheets are the best thing for a tired mind and body.
The shade your Dad made is amazing. I've seen Tiffany inspired pieces like that with huge price tags. I have a secret desire for something similar to hang in my front window. I bet with yours all lit up it is just gorgeous!
I'm so happy you got home safe and sound. I was trying to remember when you would be travelling.
mg
Hey, mg, thanks a bunch.
Sorry that I haven't been around to raz or jaz you lately, hehe!
Maybe later tho, lol.
Carol (DR)
Pbbbbllllllppppptttttttt!
I "razzed" you first today!
I'm still up, I'm waiting for a Vicadon to kick in and shut my brain off. I'm worried about Julie.
Yikes JULIE- hope things are OK with you. If anyone hears anything, please let us all know.
Welcome back DR to the chat!! Glad your dad is improving and you were able to spend time with them. My folks just arrived in FLa from Mich and I miss them so already. Mom called last night as we were freezing and told us it was in the 80's down there and they were sweating!
If I don't have the tv on, I have the radio on - I think I just like noise. I listen to a station that plays oldies but goodies (just like me! LOL) I can sing along as I know all the words! Last night I listened to Melissa Ethridge's new CD and really like that too. Our local radio stations have xmas music on already - gag....too early for me!
ohhh, that lamp is gorgeous- I've always wanted one like that and did you dad make it? That makes it doublely nice. I love things that people make for you.
I thought I heard another hurricane was out in the ocean....hope it was a dream
Good morning GOBs....Looking forward to an update on Julie, I hope everything is all right. Having gone through open heart surgery with no warning signs, I get nervous over severe heartburn....went in once for ablation to fix some bad areas that were causing problems but so far so good. I hope she is getting the proper care and will be back with us in good condition. She will be in our thoughts and prayers. And Julie, if you are back now, and reading this, (((Julie))) take care of yourself!!!
In yesterday's post I remarked that Elvis came to Savannah. I think that was 1956 and yes, I saw him. But only briefly as the fans pressing against the plate glass front wall of the hotel collapsed in and he moved to another hotel.
I have been battling some anxiety and depression lately, so I am going back to my doctor to have my thyroid checked again. I imagine they will have to increase my dosage of synthroid.
Another large window has gone into the new greenhouse; I will get a picture tomorrow. We are finally getting a little rain.....
I have to leave for work early; I'm off to Curves....
Julie, please take care of your self!! Am so sorry and worried about you.
MG, it sounds you had a wonderful trip, MG, and how nice it must have been to visit Robert and Ernie
who are Robert & Ernie?
Good morning everyone.
Julie - Take care and hope you are feeling well soon.
Carol - so happy your DF is doing well. Sounds like an interesting detour you made and I love the Tiffany lamp.
Must head out soon to Aquafit and then to the Food Cupboard.
Wil check back in mid-day.
Ann
Balvenie and Eweed!!
Hello all!
Julie - be well - good thoughts being sent your way.
Just checking in and catching up. Today is DH's 47th b-day. He got dinner out Saturday night (see last thread!) and a handheld GPS. He's having all sorts of fun with it.
We got much needed rain last night and more due today. I'm so glad.
That's all for now - gotta get to work.
Marcia
Ernie is 'Eweed'~~~Robert is 'Balvenie'
Good morning everyone
Julie ... so sorry you aren't feeling well. You are in my thought and prayers this morning. Anyone who hears anything ... please let us know when you can.
Carol, am glad to hear your Dad is getting along better. Isn't it amazing how fast the years go by? My parents are in their early 70's now. It doesn't seem possible. My Mother is having a lot of trouble with her knee. She's always been so active. This has really slowed her down. That seems real funny in a scary sort of way, you know? That tiffany lamp sure sounds beautiful ... and is indeed special when it's something crafted by your Dad.
woodspirit, I hope you start feeling much better, also. Maybe the doc can get your meds adjusted and that will help.
Marcia, tell the DH happy birthday from all us and send me some of that rain ... please.
Okay, got to get started this morning. Hi to anyone I missed. Y'all have a good one. I'll be checking in to see if anyone has heard from Julie.
Hugs ... Elaine
Julie, I'm watching for an update and sending prayers and hugs!
Oh, no, Julie, I hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. Welcome back home DR, glad to hear that your father is doing better. MorningGayle, hope you feel better also. Woodspirit, go get those meds adjusted, so you will start feeling better also. Sarv, I know you miss your mom, but just be happy that they are able to be in Florida and away from the cold.
DR, I am so envious that you visited with Ernie and Robert. Would love to be able to do that. And that lamp is just gorgeous!!.
Sarv, I am like you, I always have some background noise going on, I don't know why, as I don't stop to watch tv, just listen to it.
Well, I am going to get the pansies in the ground this morning, then try to straighten the house some. I have a pot of vegetable soup on, so whoever wanders in, grab a bowl, and help yourself. I will be making spoon bread this afternoon to go with it. I will put the "real" butter on the counter, so when it comes out of the oven, help yourselves, but leave me some please!!
Good morning.
Oh, Julie, I hope your problems turn out to be something simple like indigestion instead of a real heart problem. You'll be in my prayers.
Woodspirit, I hope you get your meds adjusted correctly and soon. Emotional ups and downs are no fun.
Carol (DR) I'm glad to hear all the good news about your folks, your visits with Ernie and Robert, and not being involved in the accidents you saw. The lamp is beautiful and certainly is an heirloom treasure for you.
No rap music for me, I don't even consider that to be music. I like classical, some gospel, some bluegrass, some easy listening types, and some of the oldies. I can get music stations on the sattelite tv but usually forget to turn them on. Every time they change the programing format I have to start finding stuff all over again.
Yesterday's snow is all melted away now and the wind is blowing pretty hard from the north. I ran out to the greenhouse in my bathrobe to secure the exhaust vent on the west end of the building that flaps when the wind blows from the north. It is right over the furnace and the thermostat so that causes a lot of heat loss, something I don't need with the high fuel prices.
Time to get hubby's breakfast going. He had a cold over the weekend and is still blowing and sniffing but will go to work anyhow and I hope he can come home early.
I've heard from Julie, she had a pretty nasty angina attack. She took some nitro and it eventually subsided. She is very tired today yet.
I'll let her tell you all the rest of it when she feels better.
mg
As I remember the pain my husband suffered with Angina, it is awful.
He finally had to have bypass surgery, he was not able to walk from the garage into the house without stopping to catch his breath and take some nitro.
Just wish Julie the very best, and hope she'll be back with us very soon

Glad to hear that Julie is ok - just pooped. Tell her to put her feet up and get waited on - she can milk that for about a week I think! If we were closer, we'd all pop over to keep her company and bring her treats. I'll make her chicken breast with stuffing and cheese on top - someone else do dessert!
Hey Wood, I just got back from Contours - have gone for a year now. Unfortunately I took three months off this summer and porked on 10 lbs and they absolutely refuse to leave. I've gone now for 2 months and haven't lost an ounce. But I have fun and am doing good things for my body, so guess I'll have to be satisfied. There's a gal there that has lost over 120 lbs....she is so skinny that she looks old (I keep telling myself that a little fat in the cheek area is good - however I carry it in the bottom cheek... LOL)
I need to get busy and get something done as I loafed all weekend and feel like a slug now. It is so chilly out that I just want to curl up and snooze or read and EAT!!
Take care all - especially Julie!!
Thanks, mg for the update. Hope you get back to normal too so you can "raz" your own kids!!!
Woods, hope you get your med. all set up so you can enjoy life again. That greenhouse you are building will be great for you. Go out there and imagine the flowers and plants growing. That will make you want to live life to see things grow.
Mary, SNOW! Unreal. Keep it over there on the other side of the mts. please, hehe. I am not ready for snow. I still need to get my bulbs in the ground and those dang dahlia tubers dug up!!!
Dcat, putting pansies in? Geez, I should do that but don't want to spend the money this fall and I forgot to start some later this summer. Oh well, there is always next year.
Maria, when I was visiting Eweed (Ernie), I thought of Samson. Thinking of all the pretty golden ret. puppies here on DG growing right now.
Hi, Darius, am glad that you have made the driving trip up and down ok so far. Hope it continues to be a good winter for you back and forward to FL (with Molly too).
I01, Yes, I know what you mean about it is scary as the parents get older. You don't think they ever will but they sure do. My dad is 85 and still kicking strong.
Yes, my dad made that beautiful lamp. He has done many lamps, sun catchers, window pictures, vases, bowls, etc. out of glass. It was so interesting to see the patterns that Robert was putting together. I love to see how people put different colors together.
And I do treasure everything he has made.
Well, off back to the real world of working now.
JULIE, hope you are feeling better today and get some rest!!!!
I will send you some dahlia tubers to cheer you up!!!!!!!!!
Carol (DR)
People! People! People! It's OK!! Honest!
I tried to get back here before you guys went berzerk and started worrying...looks like I didn't make it. LOL
Here's what I wrote in the UMW Coffee Break thread this morning.
Everything is under control now. And you don't know much about me, do you? It's important for me to keep my "threads" going not for myself, but for a lot of other people who really *need* them. Not so much in this forum...but the 'Coffee and...' has been there for a long time and various reasons, I just *have* to keep that one going.
Last night was particularly scary for me. Eric had just gone to bed, I answered one thread here in UMW, had posted the new daily for the Parking Lot and was just about to sign off after putting the link in yesterday's Daily when it hit like a ton of bricks.
I won't take a nitro on my own accord, normally. I'll wait to see if it's going to be a really bad episode. But Eric knows when I've pushed it a bit too far and will insist and shove the pill in my mouth. Last night, he was too far away to hear me and I *knew* I couldn't get up to go get him...so, (Wonder of WONDERS!) I took my nitro...and cried. I was crying because I thought it could be "the end" I was crying because it HURT! (LOL)
It took about 20 minutes for it to calm down and completely go away. That's about normal, for me.
Yes...I *do* know what to do in case of an emergency.
1) Get my threads covered on DG
2) Take my nitro
3) 5mins later, take another nitro
4) 5 mins later take a third nitro
5) CALL the RESCUE squad!
6) Make SURE my DG threads are covered!!
7) Hope it doesn't get that bad anymore.
8) LOL like crazy...that usually fixes *everything*
Now as 'fair warning'...these attacks have been going on 6 or 7 years. They are *always* worst in the spring and fall when the weather has these big pressure changes. Yep! That's what tripped the trigger last night. It's nothing to be really concerned about...and I'm sorry I scared you all. See #1 and #6 above...I'm serious! LOL
Thank you all for your concern. Now that you know how these episodes work...you'll understand what's happening. Just be sure you memorize my emergency steps so you can be there when I need #8!
~julie~
Now the reason I didn't back into *this* thread first thing when I opened DG is that I had a certain person (whose shall remain nameless...but her initials are morning_gayle!) had a d-mail waiting for me when I signed on. ~Sheesh girl!~ You'd think I was nearly a neighbor or something! LOL
Would you believe that had the phone book out and was about to call the rescue squad?! Not only was she going to call the rescue squad...but she was going to call the one in MONFORT! (about 30-40 minutes from here...driving rationally) You guys won't know why that's so funny, but LONG story short...my DIL's family (13 brothers and sisters) several of which are ON the rescue squad would have been 'on call'. One of them would have called my DIL, gotten her out of bed (she hates that especially when she has to work 12 hour shift at the nursing home beginning at 3 A.M.!) And SHE would have *killed* me! LOL Nevermind about the heart attack...I fear HER more! ROTFL
At any rate...your instructions for *my* emergencies are listed above. FOLLOW them...especially in reference to #8!!
Hugs to you all...
Now that I've gotten this Monday off to a grand start, I'll go back and READ the posts! hehehe
~julie~
(P.S. Thanks Gayle! I'll get you back at that Bowling Tourny hehehe)
Aw, gee, Sarv, you were typing while I was. By just going to working out just makes your body stronger even if you don't lose any weight.
Believe me, having to see what my dad has gone thru, with him walking 1 1/2 miles each day before his stroke was a plus for him recovering from the stroke, the doctor said. So any activity you do will help in the very old days of our lives.
Carol (DR)
GREAT, JULIE, AM SO GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU ARE STILL ALIVE AND KICKING HERE ON DG! lol
Carol (DR)
But Julie,
I will tell you my story.
I drove home from Bellingham, WA after seeing to my dad after that stroke.
Well, I hadn't told my parents that I might stop at Bal (Robert) or Eweed (Ernie) because I wasn't sure of the weather or time.
Well, when I did arrive home here in Albany, OR (I had left their house at 9 am ), my son told me that Grandma had called and wondered if I had gotten home safely yet. Well, she had called at 5 pm and he had said no. So they kept calling him and still the answer was No.
So....
My parents called the state patrol and they were looking all over the state of WA and OR for me.
Geez, I will be 50, note 50, years old in a few weeks and I can't even take a road trip by myself yet.
LOL LOL LOL
But it is great that people care about you.
So....
Julie,
Yes, people do care about you and everyone here. Guess we all crazy but we have met here and have made friends here, even if it is cyberworld.
Take care, Julie, health is important.
Carol (DR)
Carol (dr) LOL...yes, I'm alive and still kicking! (and I'm holding you to that Dahlia thingy. ;-)) Boy do I ever know about that "Call when you're home safe" routine. Dh & I are both 60+ and his mother is *still* that way. And I have to amit, I'm the same way with my own kids. Really had to LOL at the thought of having the State Patrol looking for you. (It would have worse if they'd *found* you!)
Elaine! I could do that! How else would guys know I needed those PRAYERS and Positive energy sent my way? ~giggle~ (Thanks for your concern...I really appreciate it!)
~julie~
Mygosh, the sun is out ! Still wet, and last nights hard frost hasn't helped, but THE SUN IS OUT.
Julie, it is so good to hear you are back safe and hopefully sound. Of course you and yours know all about it and after 6 or 7 years the episodes may be second nature, but you had me worried too.
Carol, it was so nice to finally meet you, what a delight you are.Thank you for the information on the cap-tel phone. I'll try to contact them today. The down side is that I may have to start answering the phone ! lol The lamp is very beautiful, and the solder seams are outstanding. What a great ability he has. I hope with his improving health he is able to continue working in glass. Do parents ever change ? That's great about your Mom calling the State Patrol and checking up to make sure you got home OK.
Sarv, what's a couple pounds here and there! All the more to hug. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat, so you are just getting stronger all the time. Won't need a 2X4 before long.
Hope it warms up today. That sun makes me want to get out and clean up all the soggy dead stuff. (but its so nice and warm in the house) .
julie,
YOU SCARED THE HECK OUT OF US FOOL
I am SO glad to see that u r o.k.,,,,,well, u know how we all feel.
Kelly
Edited to add:
I don't care if they have been going on for 6 or 7 years Take the dumb Nitro pills FOOL
This message was edited Nov 14, 2005 11:00 AM
Oh Bal - are you going to hug me??? LOL
DR= get yourself a cell phone- then your family can check up on you wherever you are. I have had one for over a year and now wouldn't be without it!! The first weekend we had it, the brakes went out in our truck and we ran two red lights and cruised into Wendy's and over a hill in the parking lot. I whipped out the cell and called our son to come get us - DH said 'man, was I glad you had that!" He has never complained about the monthly bill since!
It's 65 in the house, but it feel like 40 - I need some hot cocoa!!
Julie - So glad that you are OK. Please Please take care of yourself and take that nitro as soon as you need it. Don't wait!!
DR - Your dad is very gifted in his art. That lamp is great!
My parents gave up checking on us when we travel. Both DH and I will stop at a moments notice if we see something interesting. We can make a 3 hour drive last 6 hours. We also make frequent stops for coffee when we go far. DH can't seem to drive without caffein by his side. LOL
Someone mentioned yesterday that squirels were getting their birdseed. My SIL puts hot pepper sauce on the pole to her birdfeeder. when the squirels pick up the seed and put them in their mouth, they also get a surprise from the hotsauce on their paws. It hasn't entirely stopped them, but has cut way down on their visits.
Have a great afternoon!
Carol (dr) I meant to comment on that lamp shade, too. It's gorgeous! Stained Glass is something I've always wanted to learn how to do. Hmmmm....and there's the soldering iron part of it...I know I could do it. It's that DH would be the kind who would take the HOT thing out of my hand for fear I'd burn myself. He says that's why he's taken over the kitchen! And he hates to see me with sharp instruments in my hands, too. tsk tsk tsk...you'd think I was dangerous! LOL
Hi Robert! (Sorry I made you worry, too.) I'm glad you got to meet our Daisyruffle. From her pix in the photo album, she looks like a terrific person...and you *gotta* love that smile!
Sarv!!! Are you making a *pass* at Robert??? LOL & LOL (#8 is kicking in! :-D)
~julie~
Edited to say...Kerrrrrap!! I forgot to say "Hi" to SusieQ!! (Man I'm getting OLD!!)
This message was edited Nov 14, 2005 12:01 PM
Julie, I'm glad you are ok. I hadn't realized that you have an ongoing history of this angina. Just don't get too far from those pills.
Carol, funny story about your mother worrying but I think it's normal for parents to worry. My MIL would have had a similiar reaction if we had been later than she thought we should be. She had been known to call friends all over to see if we had stopped there, etc. and that got some of them upset, etc. What a pain! We got so we usually didn't tell her until after we had taken a trip. However, coming home from her house is a different situation. A cell phone would be a good thing if you live and travel where they work.
It's too cold and windy to get much if anything done outside so I think I may go do my weekly shopping and errands today and hope for a better day tomorrow. The thermometer says 32, the wind is strong enough that I have to lean into it to walk, and we already had the ground covering snow squall this morning right when my hubby was leaving for work. It has melted already so the road to town will probably be clear. Freezing fog is the forecast for tonight! You see why I was hurrying to get my gardening done. See you later.
