hey dave, glad question

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I got lucky and got one bag of those wonderfully priced glads at walmart. It says plant Jan. - June, what are you doing with yours? planting them now or waiting?

Hi tiG,

Against the advice of some folks, I am going to go ahead and plant them out right now. It's probably way too late to plant them (which is why they were 2 cents a bag), but I figure it's worth a shot. I'm going to play them in my vegetable garden, and hopefully they will grow at least a little.

Then, when fall comes and the foliage dies back, I'll be digging them and storing them until next spring. Wish me luck! I figure if they don't work, I'm only out a couple bucks.

Hey Dave,
do you dig and store your glads?Wow,I never do,and mine come up every year.I even planted some last year, moved them and found some that I forgot this year(this was after mowing and digging).I would imagine they are hardier in your zone 7 than in my wet, cold Swiss zone 7 :).Just a thought..maybe you should try to leave some this year!!

Yes Dave, I also left them in the ground when I lived in the Tidewater area of VA - zone 7/8 and they came up each year. That was the lazy way for me. It has been said to plant them at different intervals so that there is a longer succession of flowers throughout the season.

I would leave them in the ground, but they are going to be living in the middle of my veggie garden, and I'll need them out of there so I can plow it all up this fall!

They will have a permanent home next spring, however, in "Sector 2" (our new 16,000 sqft garden).

whenever i buy bulbs "off" season, i still plant them. i bought some glads in June and planted them that day...they came up and bloomed, but they were about 6 inches tall when they did...the stalks were so heavy with flowers they fell over.
next year they will preform as expected.
