What does it mean when someone asks to have a "named" plant? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm new at this.

They probably want a cultivar that has a name. Example, they are not happy with a "tomato" plant, they want to know if its a Brandywine, Rutgers, Big Boy or what have you.
Thanks, Farmerdill. I had a fleeting thought that is what it meant, but wanted to be sure.
Many of us have large collections, so we seek "named" plants to acquire a new cultivar for our collections. For instance, I collect daylilies. I don't want to trade for a red one or a yellow one. I would love to get my hands on a "Darla Anita" or "Second Millenium" or "Symphony of Praise". (Look them up and you'll be adding them to your wish list too. LOL)
When you start collecting a species, you'll find it's easier to keep up with what you have planted where if they have names. And others can recognize or look up the names you have when you offer them to trade. The names are easy to assign a face as opposed to just saying "a red one with a yellow center."
As you progress into gardening, I'm sure you'll find a species of plants that you'll want to acquire every one in that species. That's when names will become important to you. When I first began, I just wanted some pretty flowers in my gardens. So anything I got was great. Then I found I really love daylilies, cannas, sedums, and elephant ears. Now I have quite an abundance of each and I'm always looking for a new variety I don't have.
So let that be a warning to you. Turn around now before it's too late. Or Soon you may have to join a 12-step program, like Plantaholics Anonymous. I did that once and each step led me to a new plant I had to have! LOL

Ooooh, you're too late with the warning! I'm afraid I have become addicted! I just spent about $20.00 on one site, and about $25.00 on ebay for more seeds! I'm so anxious to start growing stuff for my yard I just can't wait for SASE's or trades. I'd love to get one of those pre-built greenhouses, but I doubt if I can afford one.
Any ideas for inexpensive cold boxes or a small greenhouse?
BTW, thanks for the info.
