Elaine...I have to comment that I had a strong feeling about what your name meant long before you gave the explaination. ;-) (That's a 'winkie' for ya....just in case your computer doesn't recognize that one yet. ~grin~)
Someone up there just made me laugh...now what was it? OH YEAH! The "spousal unit" and does it come with attachments? LOL
Didn't that "spousal unit" designation start with the TV show the 'Coneheads?' I think it's funny to see it popping up in conversations (I always liked the term, myself. he he he he)
~julie~
Coffee and.... For Wednesday Nov. 9, 2005
Ok...Jody...KNOCK IT OFF!!! LOL It seems we're attached at the hip today. And we're both trying to use the same keyboard!
I use the Cold Brew Lipton bags...and have for the past year. I just *hate* having to wait for my iced tea. (I use the Cold Brew bags with HOT water! Does that tell you anything? :-D)
~julie~
Elaine...here's smiling back at you!
~julie~
Took me awhile to catch up. Went to the chiropractor today, and while in town went to Walmart, and to the grocery for DM, DMIL and me. Was gone 5 hours. This is getting way too time consuming. Yeah, I grinned at the "spousal unit" comment also. Wish they could be unplugged and taken apart. Attachments are a nice idea. If you have a honey do list, just attached the honey do attachment!!, Then they can do it all.!!
Well going to go do some painting, will be back later this pm.
Storm is on the way but I just wanted to say HI to everyone new and old. Been blowing and raining since about 10 am and doesn't look like it will soon stop.
Carat feel better, just think of that lovely new home waiting for you.
IO1......love the definition of your name....its all His and so good to be reminded. But...........sweet tea!! I must be a yankee through and through. We love iced tea and drink almost a gallon every night for supper but PLEASE no sugar! :-). I make mine in the micro wave also but because if I put it on the stove to boil I forget it. Have almost burned it dry a couple of times. Don't you just love our differences!!
Without going back through this thread I can't remember who or what I wanted to say......they say the mind is the first to go.
I am sad though, I had to empty my greenhouse this morning. In 8 days I used a small (for a grill) sized propane tank and I can't afford that especially when it was on pilot most of the time :-( . Guess everything I really want to keep will go upstairs in the big east window. I am really disappointed I so wanted to keep things down there till after the holidays. I didn't care about the mess in the house then.
Well the lightening is getting closer so I better go.........I just love reading about everyones days even if I don't comment very often.
I wonder how Maria is doing with Sampson's trainer???? Inquiring minds want to know.
Joy
Read thru all the posts and then promptly forgot who said what...too lazy to make notes today. But I remember someone was getting a new greenhouse- you'll love it!!!
I was off and on chat this morning- good thing it isn't on daily = I would get absolutely nothing done!! I planted up some coleus cuttings that had rooted and stuck them under lights - still have the mess to clean up however..
Went to KMart to get the 25% off game I was looking or - got a set of sheets to make a duvat (spx) for my bed and a small table cloth for the cardtable. Then met a friend for lunch at Mickey D's - she had her two grandkids, so the kids played and we yacked. We were there for two hours..sat there so long that I HAD to have a sundae!
Wind is awful here today - blew down a ton of leaves, but most of them have blown out into the fields. Chilly in the house tho. Gas was down below 2 yesterday, but of course today it was back up. I filled up today= grrr.
Not much more of news here....
Oh Julie!! I do NOTHING to my mums! I leave the foliage on until spring as it provides a natural mulch, but otherwise I just leave them as they are. I am careful when I buy them and try not to buy those from out of our area, because some of them are too tender for our winters. If I were further north, I would heap some more mulch on them and pray for lots of snow! We have so many we've divided time and time again so twos have become fours, fours have become eights, etc.
Still haven't gotten outside, don't think I want to with that nasty wind. Maybe tomorrow. (They'll put that on my gravestone!)
Waiting to hear from Maria about training success!
I tried chat once and it's too busy for me!
Back to work.
Goodness, it's WINDY here!!! We have a high wind advisory until 4:00.
I somehow missed the explanation of IO1's name?
Doesn't anyone make "suntea" any more? It's so easy, and tastes great. But then, I don't sweeten, so that may make a difference.
ginni
I don't, because I don't like tea in any shape or form.
defoecat ... loved what you said about the spousal unit. I'm picturing popping in different attachments like for my food processor. Let's see ... now do I want the painter blade ... or perhaps the yard one? Hmmmmm. :)
Hi to everyone else!. The ones of y'all that have the bad weather ... stay safe. To those of you who are still under the weather, take care of yourselves.
... Elaine
Made out fine with trainer, she is great, not a harsh word was spoken to Samson, all is done with treats and a clicker, that is now on my wrist and when he does what is told him he hears the sound from it and gets the treat. He caught on very fast. He was very excited when she came through the door, she said I can tell he loves people but has to learn how to behave, She does not belief in any thing cruel like electrical gadgets also thinks a rawhide is a no no, give him a real ham bone LOL
Right now I 'm rolling a tennis ball for him, he did not understand how to give it back to me but I used the clicker and a treat he learned fast. Right now he lost it some where under a piece of furniture lol, I can't find it but just now he did, pulled his bed away and there it was lol
She will come back next week.
Sorry did not answer all of you, but here it is was kind of tired after and still am.
Glad you had a good day with the trainer. Samson is such good company for you.
Jody
Maria, I am glad that Samson has a trainer who is kind. We told you he looked smart to us. You wait, he will win over your kids and then they will love him too. They always do.
I feel somewhat better now, still wish I could eat. Why is it you only have real cravings for the things you can't have??? I think its a mind thing...
Well I have some work to catch up on, hope everyone is staying warm where that wind is blowing...A bit overcast here today, but in all its been a beauitful day...
Ok busy here as usual I have been poping in from time to time and now everyone must be eating dinner!! LOL
Carat hope you keep feeling better!
Maria I knew Samson would learn fast!
The spousal unit too funny!!!
Hi to everyone and I will be in and out after I get the little guy to bed LOL
Anne
Maria, great news about Samson and his training session. He sounds like a very observant dog, and I'm sure he will be easy to control after some basic education.
Tea, Tea, Tea, I love Tea. Hot or cold, never met a tea I didn't like, though some fared better than others. Somebody please slap my hand!! Went grocery shopping today to take advantage of a number of great coupons. Coke products were four 12-packs for $11.00 and they threw in three 2 liter bottles of fresca for nothing. Then a few other things I didn't realize were 'necessary', to the tune of $95.00. Well, everything but the paper towels is edible. Peeled a 'test strip' of wallpaper behind the TV room door this morning, can't say it was fun, but it may not be as bad a job as I had thought. Also bought a quart of "Nutmeg Coffee" brown to try on the wall. Immy and I go to her first Obedience class tomorrow morning. We missed the first 4 sessions, but I can cover those at home. It's just basic stuff, but she needs to learn it in the presence of other dogs.I think she's going to be a carpenters apprentice. Today I noticed she had chewed the rectangular rung on my prized wing-back chair into an almost oval configuration! A little shoe polish should cover it up. Seems to me I polished a pair of shoes once so there should be a can of polish somewhere. Part of todays groceries included hamburger, Italian sausage, ricotta, jack & cheddar cheese and a new 'no-cook' lasagna. Guess what's on tomorrows menu. You may have noted that DrDon and Pam are back from the horsie meeting in Texas. I'm anxious to see the progress on his beautiful mosaic. That Ranch of theirs is fabulous, and he is such a great talent. Don't have to cook anything tonight as DW is bringing home Vietnamese sandwiches for dinner. Managed to whittle some more on the door jamb project. May have it up and running in another week. Don't forget, Lost is on tonight, and it is SUPPOSED to be a new one. I hate it when they show the same one two weeks running. I don't think ABC pays any attention to me, boy do I feel slighted !!
Have a great night everyone.
Robert, pls remind me what breed those gorgeous dogs are again? I've forgotten and don't have the energy to read back ump-teen threads. Gosh would I love to have one of them, they're so beautiful!
Hey , everybody who commented, thanks for the chol. info. Every bit helps educate me.... and I need that!
Bal thanks for the 'lost' reminder I always forget and when I remember it is a RERUN! UGH!
Love seeing your babies here and everywhwre they are so sweet.
Kooger go to pet forum and check out the 'hide and seek' picture Bal posted toooo cute and funny for more of the cutest furbabies!!!
Mags
OK. I finally found you. What happened to the bit that was in UMW?
If suddenly occured to me that I wasn't getting notifications of updates.
You all yak too much. LOL
Here I am worrying about an invasion of my garden by some of the UMW people and you carry on. Gotta close my Internet connection and read all this stuff or I'm gonna run out of time before the 17th.
Ann
jasmer, the folks I'm talking about were all born between 1906 and 1909. It was a very isolated mountain community with some very fertile small valleys for growing crops (including a lot of corn for moonshine). I'm sure there weren't any laws back then governing marrying cousins and a lot of folks here are related one way or another although most are not closely related.
As for now, I don't know. My husband's family has a lot very smart people, some are even amazingly so. My spousal unit's nieces and nephews call him Genius John. His parents were not related in any way, though. His mom moved down here from Indiana.
Yes the Coneheads were a skit on the old Saturday Night Live. They were aliens sent here to learn about humans. Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin were the parents and Gilda Radner was the daughter. When humans came in their house, they rarely notice these ridiculous , huge pointy heads. They also had expressions for other things, like eating was "consuming mass quantities." Wish I remembered more. They were hilarious.
Kooger, they are Shelties, aka Shetland Sheepdogs. Little Immy is a blue merle, black, white, grey & brown. Tinker is a bi-blue, same color minus the brown. Very smart, almost as smart as Border Collies and they make wonderful companions. They need exercise and activity to keep them happy. I've had Poodles, Borzoi, Smooth Fox Terriers and muts, but Shelties are by far my favorite.
mags, Lost and Housewives are the only commercial TV, other than the news, that I watch, and it irks me when they pull that rerun stuff.
Hey Ann what's a UMW ? How's your Cello ? Andrew Lloyd Webber's son Julian has two cello CDs
OK found the link on UMW. I guess I must have peeked at it around the time it was changed over, but I didn't really read it. Have now done so and am back to this one - 60+ messages already.
Reading while off-line; so I can't follow the links at this time. Does that plastic wrap method work for other tubers as well? (Now that mine are all bedded down).
Maria, glad things are going well with the trainer for Samson.
M5, I finally gave up on the big rose buds in my garden and pruned them back enough to be covered for the winter. It's been too cold for the last couple of weeks for any of them to open.
Busy day at the Food Cupbaord today. Started off with 1000 students from a high school that is about half a kilometre away making a human chain all the way from the school to the Food Cupboard. Then they started passing cans down the line. Of course a lot of them arrived irrepairably dented - enough so that the teacher at the door called a halt to the passage. but while it lasted, it was a great photo-op both for the school and for us. They have a toatl of about 6000 units of food. Some of it was slated for delivery tomorrow anyway and they will just deliver all that wasn't passed from student to student.
We got over 200 tax receipts printed, folded and stuffed into the correct envelopes, and we handed out food for 198 people (about 54 families). We are still doing referrals for the Christmas Exchange and Salvation Army toy program. The form is so complicated that it slows everything down. Last time I mentioned the Christmas Exchange, someone asked about it. Please forgive if I'm repeating myself, but I don't remember answering the question.
In Ottawa, the Christmas Exchange serves two purposes. It is a clearing house for families who will receive a Christmas Hamper, so that duplication is reduced. Some families will apply to more than one agency deliberately. In other cases, one familiy member will apply to one agency and another may apply to a different agency. And in some cases, social workers will apply on behalf of their clients, not knowing that the clients have already applied somewhere. The Christmas Exchange database, cross references the various requests to reduce duplication.
The Christmas Exchange also takes requests for vouchers to help families out with Christmas dinner. Most of our referrals are in that category and then we will supplement that voucher with a store voucher to be used for the purchase of a turkey and with what we call Christmas "treats" - seasonal type foods which are distributed on a per person basis.
Of the 54 families today, I have 29 referrals to fax in. Other families know they are receiving a hamper from somewhere and other families have to update their proof of address before we will make a referral for them.
At this time of year, we also contact the schools about Christmas food drives. Many will do drives that end just before Christmas and we have a local moving company which donates a van and a crew to go to schools and pick up the food for us.
balvenie - UMW is upper mid-west. A few of us Canadians follow it because the zone conditions are more similar to ours than parts of Canada are.
And sorry to say, I don't play cello, but viola. (You know the viola jokes?) this is the history of my new viola -

PS Pics attached are of the kids bringing in the food from Gloucester High School this morning.
Been trying to keep up today, but didn't have much time to post. Work has been really busy. I work for a company that sends out free samples, and today received a call that some of our FREE samples might be being sold on e-bay! Tomorrow I have to make a few phone calls and see if I can figure this out.
Just got home from michaels. Got supplies to make wreaths for my 2 front doors. Everything was on sale, Yeah!
Maria - So glad the trainer is working out well.
Meezer - what beautiful flowers!
If we get the wind that some of you are having, I know DH will be called into work tonight. He's a foreman for the Road dept. Usually a tree branch comes down somwhere with wind and rain.
Well, finally got settled down, read for awhile, and an exihibition game between U of Ky and Georgetown on tv. Bal, I watch little tv, only Desperate Housewives, and Ky. basketball.
Jasmeer, are you trying to heat your greenhouse with propane. Sorry that it seems it won't be feasible this year. Bring all the plants in and use that old grow light.
Sarv, McD's is a favorite of mine, Occasionally, If you are chatting with a friend, it makes it more so.
Meezer, I don't do anything with my mums here. Just let the foliage stand until spring, then clean it up and fertilize. That rose was so pretty, kinda makes me sad to know that we won't be seeing anything like if for awhile.
tgif, how can you claim to be a southerner without sweet tea? LOL
101, I have been thinking about the attachments for the spousal unit, the possibilities are limitless. How about a cooking, cleaning, planting, weeding, tilling, shopping attachments? Would that make our lives much simpler. Somebody work on this please.
Susieq, so what kind of samples does your company give out, and somebody trying to sell them on E-bay, The rat.
Maria, so glad that you have a good trainer. Give Samson big slobbery kiss from my Bruno! I bought him a new toy today while shopping as DS yorkie demolished his favorite toy this weekend. Couldn't find one exactly like his favorite, but thought it would be a good substitute. Well, he was afraid of it. After some coaxing, he did play with it, but not with the same enthusisiam as the other one.
Carat, glad to hear that you are feeling better. Take it easy, and recovery will be much faster.
Bal, what are you doing liking sweet tea, or all teas, you are not southern? Sounds like a great shopping experience today. Love them bargains. Are you going to strip wallpaper? And tell us what are Vietnamese sandwiches. Good pic of the dogs.
Woodspirit, please post some more pics of the green house, it is making me green with envy.
ViolaAnn, wouldn't it be nice if donations like the school kids happened all year long. We tend to forget the less fortunate the other 10 months of the year.
Well, I am off to bed, sleeping well, and don't want to do anything different, so as to break the spell. Nothing planned for tomorrow, so will stay in bed a little longer, I hope. Oh, DH just informed me that he has a friend who is coming a 7:00 to go rabbit hunting. Although that doesn't involve me, his rustling around will probably get me out of bed!!
Night all.
Yeah well I've got to turn in too. Me and my DD (in my case Darling Dog) ;) have hair appointments. I'm getting highlights ... she's getting a bath! We're both getting our nails done. hehehehe
Oh, by the way ... I talked to Darius a bit ago. She's giving me a couple cuttings of plants that broke off in her truck, one of which I already have but can't pronounce. The other is a Christmas cactus. I am sooo excited about that. I've never had one! Yippeee She's dropping them off on Friday on her way home. I'll have to go over to my info to jog my memory on the other one. She was very helpful with telling me what to do for my plants.
The plant I couldn't remember is a Night Blooming Cereaus. I have one that Sedrick gave me ... and now Darius is giving me a piece of one to go along with it. They're suppose to be magnificent when they bloom. I can hardly wait!

I01~ you can just stop rubbing it in that you get to see Darius on a regular basis any time your ready...
Defoecat~ I am so glad that your sleeping habits are working for you. I wish I could get mine on track. Everytime I start to get them straightened out something happens and messes them up again....
Bal~ your furbabies are beautiful.......
Tomorrow's Daily is up in the PARKING LOT! (*really!*)
Here's the link:

Have a good one!
~julie~
Well, I'm real close to the coast ... soooo ... if y'all get sick of that icky weather ... just come on down. I'm not fancy, but the floor is clean and if you're good ... I'll even feed ya!LOL
I have an extra bedroom and a sofa sleeper y'all can fight over. There are a lot of old plantation homes and Bed and Breakfast Inn's in this area. It's a lovely part of the state.
I just might take you up on that when I move and decide to start checking out that end of the country....
IO1 You mean there are some left that the hurricans haven't flattened? I'll get there one day, but I'm not saying when because everytime I make a plan something comes up and wrecks it!! :>)))
Carol
The English One
WS - I thought they were probably older relatives. My aunt (now deceased) married her first cousin back in the late 20's.
Ann - I love the photo! (Be careful what you say about the UMW! I'm watching you! LOL)
Defoe - I believe Joy is the one with the greenhouse.
Good night, all!
Jody
Jody, Woodspirits "spousal unit" is building her a GH too. Now, over to todays segment.
Molly
