Good Morning everyone!! Just having boiled eggs and toast this morning - let me know how many you want!!

We had heavy rain last night and today there are already wind warnings up. I need to run out and close up the greenhouse or I may see it flying off to Maria. (she wants one anyhow!!) Sure is warm out tho - 56 deg at 6am.

I will stay in control with the scrapbooking stuff (I hope) We were together with our camping group, so it was great fun with all the laughing etc. I"m kinda a plain jane type of person, so I'd just like my pics in one place with journaling. Can you guess what my first album is of????? My gardens!!! I was the only one doing that- the rest were doing their families- vacations etc. I did two pages on all of my clematis vines and will do a couple on my brugs. I also snap pics at the beginning of summer, middle and end. I just love seeing the progression of things.

I've been taking 'fish oil' capsules for awhile and this morning I heard on the radio all the good things it does for your skin. My skin doesn't seem to be as dry as usual, but the heating season hasn't started with a vengence yet. I usually end up with cracking/bleeding heels by spring. Then end up limping like an old lady...

Gotta go get dishes soaking- DH had fish last night and left the broiler pan on the bar and even with my poor sense of smell - it stinks! Do ya think he would ever think of cleaning it up!!! After cutting and loading two loads of wood, he was gimping around like an old man too -where do the years go??

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning, Sarv, I guess we are the worm catchers today, or else everybody is still back on yesterday's thread. We got a heck of a rain storm last night, after the hail in the afternoon. I had gone out in the morning, shovel in hand to put in those bulbs, (finally) and the ground was so hard and dry I couldn't get the shovel in!! There's still time, and maybe the rain has softened it up some.

Just got a good look at my roots this morning, I better get that hair stuff out, yikes! I'd just let it grow out, but it looks more and more like my birth mother's hair, which never got really gray, just dingier and dingier. Bleahhh.

Can't see outside yet, so I don't know if we are getting any sunshine today.

Never tried scrapbooking. I resorted all our photo albums a few years back, and gave the kids all the duplicate photos, and threw out kid pictures of friends from years and years ago that we've lost contact with. Nobody will be able to figure out who they are when I'm gone, so there's no point in keeping them. Now everything is on the computer, and backed up on disc. Not too interested in another crafty hobby that I won't keep up with!! I know my limitations. At least, some of them......

Maria, that's a good suggestion, just let him sit inside the car in the garage, he'll get out when he realizes you have walked in the house without him. It's probably the height, if he wasn't used to steps.

101 wants to change her name....! Well, why not! I'd change mine but then it would be meezersthree, and then I'd have to change it again if we got another meezer, which might very well happen....lol.

Better go do this hair thing, DH will likely want to go out for breakfast. Subs are all gone.....catch up later. Have a great Sunday!

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

Morning all, what a bunch of gabbers! I don't think of myself as a lurker any more just a never get caught upper!

I think Magoobu said it best that with all the running we do it takes all our time and breath (either from laughing or crying) to keep caught up, much less being able to post. So I continue to plod along.

Have two doses of nursery this morning. Always do it during Sunday School hours with my friend and today is my day during the service. Threee hours plus of little ones is a good healthy dose of babies. But I sure do love them, maybe because I can give them back?

Off to A.C. Moore craft store this afternoon with my sister. Been a while for an outing even though we only live three miles apart.

Have a great day all, we had 70*s here yesterday. WOOHOO!

Joy

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Actually, I was here before Sarv, but it's her job to wake up and post first, so I didn't want to mess up that tradition. You know how we got after her when she ignored us for a couple days.

I had a lovely nights sleep in my own bed with the a/c cranked down low. Woke up to the dogs crying to get outside for business. The time change is lovely now for daylight at 6:30, that's the other side of the coin.

While I was looking around in here for new and interesting postings, it occurred to me that I should start sorting, selling and packing. Today is the 6th and the PODS container is arriving on the 15th. Although I have only lived here for 14 months, I see upon inspection there are things that I don't really need to haul north. I have a couple large curb "deals" that could be sold in yard sale and I will probably sell my gym equipment. Haven't even been on it since last December. I figure I will get plenty of exercise working on the property and riding my bike around the area.

We are having the S Florida Roundup next Saturday and I will be digging some common tropicals to share to people who lost their gardens to Wilma. In that respect, I was quite lucky. Although my plants were blown and tattered, they are still alive.

I was just reading over in Garden Talk about Bermuda grass. The HD and Lowe's sells a bag of RyeBermuda seeds. I could spread some of this in the garden areas that now are just bare dirt. That would be my "gift" to the landlord. I'm not really being mean, the back yard right now is only weed anyway and this grass would look better than bare dirt.

Dirt clothes and a broken dryer belt: ACKKK Always something to look forward to.

Catch yall later.
Molly
:^)))

Morning all
Don't have but just a minute. Got to get up from here and get ready for Church. Figured I could do this and nurse my coffee.
Supper went well last night. The poor guy never gets a home cooked meal. When someone drools over a meatloaf ... you know they're bad off! :)
Would y'all please send some of that rain down my way? You can keep the lightening and thunder ... but we haven't had rain since around Oct. 7. The DH and I went to the beach for anniversary, and of course it rained then. Haven't had any since, though. Everything's dying around here. The yard looks really bad.
Okay, I'll step down and let someone else have the floor. Y'all all have a great day. I'll check in when I can.
Hugs to all

Good morning all!

Meezer- Got the haircolor stuff last night myself. Hope to put it on tonight. I don't feel old enough to have gray hair, so I will not be gray!! LOL

Very foggy here this morning. getting ready to make chocolate chip waffles and sausage for breakfast. Anyone want one? The whole fam damily is here this morning (step children and 2 grandkids).

Time to get this show on the road. will check back later.

Have a great day!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

GOOD Morning!! Everyone!

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get the Daily thread started last night. Hard to believe 'thunder boomers' *this* time of year...but, boy, we had our share early yesterday evening and again throughout the night.

Yesterday was a "gotta get it finished" day...cleaning up my gardening and/or potting mess in the carport...DH nailing down some insulating board on the GH unit deck...and sorting and stacking all those pots and plastic 6-paks. LOTS of bending. (THAT part is done now, TG!)

Now I just have to finish off the screened porch where I've sorted seeds. Then get all those lunch bags, vials, and envelopes downstairs where I can organize them (yeah! Right! LOL)

Joy, SuzieQ, Elaine, Sarv, Sheila & Molly...a special good morning to you...cuz I SAW your posts! :-D

Molly, it's so good to think of you getting settled into your own place. I'm going to go check on your other thread so I can get caught up on your progress...hopefully I'll get to see some pics over there, (right?)

I haven't checked yesterday's thread...where's Darius and how is she doing? (That Q for anyone who can answer! :-D)

Later gators!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Morning all, can't remember if I mentioned it yesterday, but I got the closet painted and all my clothes hung. Yippee! DH hung his last night while I went to the play, had to serve rootbeer floats.

DS really upset me - turns out he was one of the leads in the play and never told us - boys for ya!!!! I found out when I went for intermission -serving the floats and some 2nd cousins said, aren't u watching the play, he's so good! Grrrr! DD and DGD would have loved to seen it - title was 'When in Rome' and it's a comedy about a thief and a Roman preparing for a gladiator match to win the hand of the princess. DS was the Roman. It was hilarious!! DS's best friend was the thief - his part was the largest part, what a lot of lines to learn, I was really amazed! I saw a couple of camcorders so I'm going to have to round up a copy to keep.

Time to get ready for church, have a good day all. Oh, Sarv, that really is the pits about ur MIL and Molly, very glad ur back on the grid - thought of u both but never mentioned it earlier. so sorry.....

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning, every one!
Seven posts already, your are over powering me, lol Creating scrap books I think this is something my daughter is doing, they are very beauitful, a work of art, perhaps I can send you some ictures one of these days.
My hair is mostly gray now, never have colored it but quite a few people insist it is mostly blond LOL just donot understand why my granddaughter had to mess up her beautiful blonde hair dying it very dark brown :-((
Happy belated anniiversary, I01, anf many, wonderful ones to come.
Molly, wonderful you have lights and once more feel comfortable.

Sarv, I know what you mean about dry heels and also palms, I have a very bad case of psoriasis at times, when DH was still alive it was awful because of stress, so the dr. said have not had it since but left skin very dry after blisters dried.
Samson is behaving more and more in the house, at least he does not think he has to go to the bathroom with me any more, LOL, but am still concerned about that car business.
Have a good day all of you
Maria

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Kooger...I had to laugh at your son not telling you he was in the play. My DS did something similar with a choir incident. (I had NO idea he had such a beautiful voice! Never used *that* one around the house. LOL)

~julie~

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Sarv, you have got to try some of Burt's Bees products, especially on your cracked heels. They have several great products. Oddly, I got mine at a builder's supply store.
kooger, after reading yesterday's thread, I think you need to learn how to say NO! lol Your life is so busy it makes my head spin.
Of course, when I apply that to my own life, with no children at home, I find I have filled in my hours pretty good. I work part-time (at a large perpetual care cemetery) and I sneak around and plant things where the mowers don't go. On Tuesday and Friday afternoons, I chair the county's archives and we are open then. I am also involved with the historical society, mostly writing their newsletter. Now we have a new historical coalition and the main effort is to put together a county historical museum. Things are moving very nicely along.
I took pix of the early construction on the greenhouse but I see this morning that my spousal unit is charging the camera's batteries so I can't upload them yet.
I am busy cleaning up my gardens, fertilizing the spring-flowering bulbs and planting more of them. Does anyone know if azaleas should be fertilized in the fall? I mean just with Black Kow.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning everyone.

Kooger, like you said it's just a guy thing not mentioning that he had the lead in the play! I do hope you can find a copy so you can see the whole thing.

I peeked out the window and can see in the morning twilight that we don't have snow covering the ground but it is low on the surrounding hills. Last night as I was cooking dinner the snow was coming down along with the rain and I could see it building up on the kitchen window. I got the rototilling done in the vegie garden just before it got real nasty. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to do things. I do that a lot, always seem to be hurrying to get some project done. The wheelbarrow is still sitting in the yard with weeds and sod in it from the day before, another partly finished project that I hope to have enough sort of nice weather to finish. Sort of nice weather at this point just means not getting me wet or the ground freezing solid. I have some pink and white daffys to plant......... got them 2 or 3 weeks ago at half price and I'm glad I didn't buy more.

I was chatting with a friend in the hurricane district this morning. So many people are still waiting for permanent housing and some direction for their lives, it is sad. They try to help. It isn't much in the news anymore but things are still not good for an awful lot of people. Our Red Cross chapter has an ad running on the local radio station to please give what we can. I hope that people will remember to help the hurricane victims this holiday season instead of spending it all on themselves.

Time to get moving. Have a great day everyone, and remember to count your blessings.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Back again - change of breakfast plans!! I had my usual peanutbutter on bread with hot cider. DH got his lazy butt outta bed and made french toast - oh I love it dripping with butter....yum. He served me two pieces - how could I say NO!! I did drip syrup down my housecoat tho -drat.

Kooger - that stinker of a son - box his ears for me too!! Don't they know that we are so proud of them!!

Wood- I'l have to get some burts bees stuff for my heels - is it just a body lotion or something special for the feet. I snitched a lip gloss of bb from my sister (she actually left it in my car and I never returned it!) I did love the menthol stuff in the lip gloss. It's all natural too isn't it? I did get a tub of vasoline this week and thought I would grease up with socks before I hit the hay.

Hey Molly - don't wait for me!! I'll share the early riser award.

The winds are so strong here - it looks like it is snowing tree leaves! Our complete 2 acres is covered with them - looks kinda pretty. Just more for my compost pile and that's fine with me!

It's kinda of a gray, rainy, cool day here - just right for lounging in front of the tv with a book and snoozing. Since we've seen both sons yesterday, they won't be stopping by and my folks have a dinner date, so it will just be ma and pa here today. DH will go out to the barn to fiddle around and cat is out with the stray - doing whatever!!

I have a mound of dishes to tackle and then its MY time. I should do some hair highlighting....I'm way overdue on that front! Check in later...

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Burt's Bees seems to have a special ointment for every part of you, including heels. I like their lemon items and also the almond items. I remember an old lotion my parents had called Hind's Honey and Almond Cream and I wish it was still on the market. However, one whiff of Burt's almond and memories of long summers spent on Wrightsville Beach came flooding back ....

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Woods, you usually fertilize rhodies and aza. in the spring. Before they bloom and right after they bloom. Not in the fall. That will just promote growing and then will get hit hard when the cold nasty weather comes.
Morning all. Am out to get some things done in the garden before heading north.
Actually, I would have been the first one to post last nite after midnight but figured I would let Sarv have that duty, lol.
Carol (DR)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

I've decided that the only way I'm going to keep up with everyone on this thread is do a PRIVATE D-MAIL with EACH one of you! LOL Can you see THAT happening??? (Well, I'm really pretty good at answering d-mails in a timely fashion. Just ask the gals I've been talking to this morning. HAHAHAHA)

(tsk tsk tsk....julie...you *know* you should be out there getting the rest of that porch cleaned off so Eric can put the new ceiling in. Yeah, yeah, yeah....why can't you mind you own business and stay outta my head!) Don't you just HATE those 'little voices' that bug you half to death? :-D

I am getting kind of discouraged with Samson, took him out of doors when he heard the neighbors kids , he went beserk and pulled me over the stone wall I went flat down the hill he dragging me .
The chidren saw it and yelled for their Dad, I could not get up, Samson kept pulling, of course I hurt myself on the leg and hit my head on one of those rocks, my neighbor kept saying let go of the leash, but in my mind I thought I had to hold on, he finally took it off me and helped me to get up, lost my shoes in the process, lol
Bob, my neighbor said, he is much too big for you for he is much stronger than you , your are simply to slight for him.
This is the latest escapade living with Samson
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh Maria - what a picture you paint!! I was laughing at the sight that must have been, but aghast that you might have been seriously hurt!! When do you get that fence put in?? And when does Samson's training begin?? At least they is never a dull moment for you now....Poor Samson doesn't know his strength. Maybe a little weinier dog would have been more your size....

My mom called and said 'why don't you both come down to FLa this winter for a month" (she is getting older and this will probably be their last winter there) I would love to go, but we have this cat that doesn't travel well at all and no where to leave her (kids won't take her as she has claws...)whaaaa why can't things work out for me!!

magoo - went to Sam's last night to do some digital photos. The line (for 4 machines) was 5 deep and only two of the machines were working properly. Lady in front of us had 5 cd's and was editing every pic. I could have bopped her!! A lady behind me asked one of the clerks if there wasn't a time limit one could be on the machine. I laughed at that one!! I wasn't happy with the pics I did (everything was blurry -going from one cd to a copied one) something goofed up. Oh well...

I have two more minutes on here than then I need to bust butt for 45 min. (I always have to set limits for myself)

Take care all

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Sarv, the trainer is coming wednesday and the fence people on th 11 th
I don't lblame you for laughing, wish some one had had a camera, what a wonderrful picture that would have made, several of them as a matter of fact LOL, if I sound sort of out of my head you will no why LOL
Edited to say, I do not like little dogs for myself

Maria, for cryin' out loud, get a choke chain on that leash. He will stop dragging you around if it cuts off his air. Then enroll him in obedience school. It doesn't matter if you're slight if you have that choke chain.
I'm not a fan of little dogs either, too hyper and barky.

This message was edited Nov 6, 2005 12:44 PM

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

But he is on a choke chain, it does not seem to bother him in the least,

ROFLMBO

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

yes, I have had many big dogs in my life but never one as spirited and stubborn as this one, for instance it takes all my strenght to just even get him where I want him to go, , lol

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Maria, do you have a Petsmart near you? Untill you get him trained, may I recommend a prong collar? They look much more severe than they really are. And the way they are designed, it is nearly impossible for him to slip it.

I've used them in my grooming shop when I've had dogs dropped off that would be staying with me all day, and they needed to be walked for potty breaks. I highly recommend them, and in your situation, I really feel you could benifit from one untill you get him fully trained.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Maria, Obedience classes are, in my opinion, mandatory for every dog. Dogs are, as you know, intelligent and perceptive and only need to be shown what the limits are and what is expected of them. I hope there is a way that Samson can be trained for you before another unfortunate accident occurs. I don't know what the situation is near you, but I had Tinkerbelle in a series of three six week classes at $ 100.00 each and felt it well worth the cost. In a class they are taught to socialize with other dogs and people as well as learning the basics of sit, down, come and stay. I'm happy to hear your accident didn't result in any serious injury.

Everyone else, Hi and good morning. A smattering of blue sky peeking through the rain clouds. The sun even came out for a few minutes. DW and best friend are off to a neat little town some 25 miles North to do some shopping, have lunch and enjoy the day. Tinker, Immy and I get to stay home and try to clean up more of the Fall, Finally Fallen, Failed,Filthy, Fungusy Foliage. Good news Molly, nice to have electricity. Hope all the rest goes without a hitch. Hmm, those jeans didn't seem to do anything for me, now if they were on a different gender!!! This poor Brug, frost bit and naked and she still blooms.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Worked for an hour, then went out and swept out DH work area in the barn - he is such a pig - never cleans up and it drives me crazy - woodchips, metal chips, dirt all over the place!! I"m getting him a shop vac with a ton of power for xmas!

Put 4 little pizzas in the toaster oven for me for lunch!!

I've put myself on a tight budget - I am totally out of control and am sickened at myself. I spend like I am a millionaire and have unlimited funds. Now I am ticked at myself for falling into the 'scrapbooking' trap. My pics have been in boxes for years and it wouldn't hurt them to stay there! I am going to finish the garden book as that will ME a great deal of pleasure.

Ahh don't you gals like those little shitzu (sp ?) dogs? If I were to get one, I'd grab one of those in a sec. We had a mix of one of those show up at our house and he was precious - followed us all around and had the most gorgeous eyes...after two weeks of looking for the owner, neighbors finally found her = just down the road from us!! I cannot believe she didn't come looking. Doggie spent her time between the neighbors and us.

I've been listening to the news of the tornados in Indiana - it sounds dreadful down there.

I had one panel of my greenhouse blow out. I had left the door open and there was no where for the wind to go - but out a panel. Thank goodness it didn't blow far and I found all the clips to get it put back together.

Time for a couple of chapters of the book Im reading.

Maria- take some ibupropen for the aches you are sure to get from your escapade...

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

MG, those prong collars do make a lot of difference. It might keep Maria on her feet (and safe from being dragged through the mud) if she used one on Sampson. I'd recommend that she take it off him in the house as it will snag on some types of upholstry. I use one with the JRT who wants to pull my arm out of the socket. He's learned that if he wants to go outside he has to let me slip it over his head. It looks like a medieval torture thing but is less severe and more effective than a choke chain. I was afraid the JRT would crush his windpipe with the choke collar. He would run and hit the end of the leash so hard he turned himself around in mid air and I could hear him gasping for breath with his feet still going a mile a minute (terriers are very energetic and determined) but when we got him into the prong collar he only did that a couple of times and that was it.

It seems that Maria's friends might have warned her that the dog was hard to manage on a leash...... or maybe they did.

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Maria, I know some people do like the idea of a prong collar, but sometimes it is necessary. I've heard the halty (? spelling, and don't know if that is the correct name) collars - the one that slips over the muzzle - work very well. You can call your vet and ask for advice. Just remember, Samson is just trying to show his love and affection to everyone. Goldens really are very friendly dogs.

Jody

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Oh, she did warn me and that he has not been trained at all, but wednesday the trainer is coming and I will get a prong collar.
Just came back from visiting my friend I usual see Sunday PM, it also gave me a rest from Samson, I put him in his cage, takes a while to get him in there but I am as stuborn as he is LOL, was he ever happy to see me again.
thanks for all your advice.

I am going to head back to the covers.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Prong collars should ONLY be used with a leash. Do not use it on him in the house or while unsupervised.

And your trainer may not like it, but he isn't the one getting drug all over. Stubborn woman, LET GO! Sheesh.

Hi all
Had a busy day today. Went to SS and church ... came home, gobbled down left overs and drug the DH to the mall. Gosh, but I don't know what in the world I'm going to wear this year! The styles are soooo ugly. If you're not tall and have long arms ... nothing fits. Believe me ... I'm NOT tall. Oh well. The only thing I would have even considered was $100 and I'm just not paying that for something I'm not jumping up and down over. :-)
Maria, I had to use one of those collars on one of my hard to handle guide dogs one time. I'm not sure, but I think it was referred to as a "training" collar. They do look very intemidating, but it sure worked. It just let's them know who's boss. Really, I think that's all Sampson is trying to find out. He's pushing you to the limit to see what he can get by with ... and having a fine time, I might add. ;) He's just being a child, but in the meantime I sure hope you don't get hurt with his antics.
Mary, I can't believe you're getting snow when it's 80 degrees here and sunny. It seems weird for there to be that much difference between climates.
All y'all make me tired with your many projects and volunteering. I'm afraid I lead a very dull life compared to y'all. :)
Think I'll go fix a pot of coffee. Anyone want a cup?
... Elaine

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

YES, please, with cream (not the 'heifer dust' tho, I'll pass on that ucky stuff!). Can't seem to get off my duff and get those closet shelves painted and the bedroom ceiling.

Watched part of the Vikings game, they won! They've been the pits this year but Culpepper is out for the season now and the backup is in. He's got a good start, hope it continues!

ok, now I'm going to get those shelves done, bye!

Hey kooger ... wait a minute! Will you help my DH paint, please. He's doing the outside, started last year and he's still at it. ;) Don't tell him I said that, though. :)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Sure, if u can send him up here to help me paint the house next summer? I started the windows last year and got nowhere this year and they need to be done really bad!! Rats! I am the procrastination QUEEN!!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

If you are the Queen, then I'm the Empress!

I procrastinate so much I end up forgetting what it was that I didn't want to do in the first place. Nice system, huh?

Is anyone having trouble with DG today or is it just me? I have DSL but am still getting ... the page cannot be displayed... ... ... :-(
