Betty, Darius is visiting with her sister now for a few days. Not sure how often she is checking in. She will be coming down to my new place in Archer Fl to stay for the winter, then maybe travel some for the summer. But she can tell you more when she comes back.

I think I will be speaking with her around dinnertime.

Down here in Wilma land, they debris removal guys have been here and the power company people are up the poles. We're running the generator to use the last of the gas up and me being the optomistic pessimist that I am, am hoping they will turn power back on before dark.

If those guys working the lines would only speak english, I might be able to get more info. I am living for them to flip the switch on.

I just had to shocks, first I met my Granddaughter walking down the street with he boyfriend, for a minute I thought he found an other girl but no she just colored her hair to very dark brown, that beautiful natural golden blond hair gone ! All I could say was hello :-((

The other shock was, though Samson loved going into the car but he would not come out, he was so scared to come down. He was to heavy for me to lift out, tried everything, finally I set next to him and pushed him out, he fell down, was I ever scared thinking he hurt himself but was OK as we went for a walk right after. Now what?why is he so petrified getting out of the car?

Have a good and safe journey, Daisy wish the very best for your Dad and Mom
Maria

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Good question, Maria. Maybe his former owner knows.

Jody

Oh my goodness ... I'm not believing your weather up there, Sheila! It's 79 degrees here at 4:00. Beautiful day. The DH is STILL painting. Poor baby will be painting forever. I keep telling him I'll help ... but he is still declining my offer. ;)
Anyway, the meatloaf is ready for the oven ... beans and squash are done, potatoes are ready for making mashed potatoes and I've a cabbage for steaming. Will slice a cuke and tomato and make cornbread. We're not eating until 7:00, so anyone that wants to come is welcomed.
Molly tell Darius hi, and sorry I forgot to give her the cake.
Carol, glad to hear your Dad is doing so well. I, too, am fortunate to have good parents. Both me and the DH are lucky ... and they are all in good health. Sisters can be a pain in the $$, though. :)
Okay, back to the kitchen.
Maria, maybe he has been taken to the vet in a car and remembers that experience. He may link riding with a bad experience there. My baby loves to ride but she knows when she's going to the vet. Shivers and shakes. Just kills me!
... Elaine

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Our golden loves affection and is very in tune with I'm upset about something. She wasn't properly trained because of things going on while she was a pup, but we still try to work with her. I really need to get in a class with her, so I'll be more consistant with it. My seven year old niece, Aleaya, "trains" the dog. When she was getting ready to leave after her last visit she said, "I know you're really busy, but you really need to take time every day to work with her." Don't you just hate it when kids are right?!!! LOL Amazingly, the dog listens better to her than many grownups.

Maria - I'm wondering if Samson was shut in the door once. Suzzie loves to go everywhere (as she wrote in her letter), even the vet, but the doggie salon is her favorite!

Ha, Maria I just had to run back in here. I know what it is! He thought you were taking him back! Or ... maybe he just wasn't finished with his ride? :)

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

The funny thing is he jumped right into the car, could not wait to get going but would not leave the car, must have worked with him for nearly an hour to get him out. He jumped right out of the woman's when she brought him. Now I wonder if my car , a small Toyota SUV, a higher then regular cars, sheesh, he has to learn to get out of it, not going to buy another car to suit his highness, LOL
Maria

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I sure hope Samson is dog and not a DH or DS, lol.
I will post pix of the beginning of the greenhouse operation tomorrow. It will be small, oddly shaped on a small hilltop, but I am enthralled.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL, Betty, sure wish he were DH and not a dog
Maria

Edited to say that devil discovered how to shake of the choke chain I just put on a while back, lol, the minute I put it on off it comes, boy is he smrt

This message was edited Nov 5, 2005 5:02 PM

I don't know, Maria. While I consider myself one of the very lucky ones ... my dog NEVER talks back ... always agrees with everything I say and doesn't repeat a word of it. LOL

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Know what you mean, Elaine, I was one of the lucky ones too only wish he'd still talk back to me and also tell me how much he loved me.
Maria

(Zone 8b)

Maria he may have thought you were going to leave him somewhere else. He came to you by car and may have felt he was being moved on. Or maybe he just enjoys car riding!
Were you inside the garage by any chance? Where his crate is? He may have thought you were going to put him in there again. Garages have funny smells and many dogs don't like them.
He will get more secure as time passes and he understands he is at home.
Carol

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I'm sure enjoying hearing all about Samson's antics..... what a lot of fun to have a new dog! I am a dog lover through and through. I like cats, love dogs. And they are so smart, they always know it. DH is opposite of me and when DD adopted a stray, Oscar, he immediately sucked up to DH. Barney is my baby, usually waits at the window by the door when I leave, until I get home.

Brought MIL home from hosp. this am. They pulled the plug that they put in her nose yesterday and it didn't start bleeding, hurrah! Her hemoglobin is about 10 right now so she'll be a bit tired for a few weeks till she's back up to full volume. She doesn t do anything but sit and read, so she won't even notice.

DS's school play is tonight so we have to put in an appearance. That sort of thing doesn t excite me over much, lol but I also have to make root beer floats at intermission - prom fundraiser. I wish I felt better - having lower end problems still , pain mainly, sure hope it s not another diverticulitis attacks. I'm puzzled.

Painted the closet in the bedroom today so at least we can start sorting clothes and getting them hung up again. Won't be able to tackle the walls till at least Wed. eve. Too many activities going on.

Tues is soup supper (have to make 3.5 gal. pea soup) and we have a Health Fair at work so I'm having a flu shot, chol. screen, glucose screen, bone scan and mammo done. Jeepers, more info than I wanna know maybe? After that I'm taking Lerae (blind friend from work) to lunch and then have to rush home and get the soup done. I'm going to try the oven method so I can stick it in at 8 am at 300 deg. and then it 's supposed to be done in 6 hrs. After I get it to church, I have to run out and work at the Book Fair at school from 3 to 6 and go to parent teacher conf. after we pack up the books. I think I'll be glad to just go to work and relax on Wed.!!!

IO1 - Lerae and I have become good friends, we pass notes back and forth in Braille and its fun cuz we can talk about anything and no one knows what we say!! Her station is right by the 'bridge' (supervisors area) so she hears a lot of stuff that s interesting - lol . She laughs at me cuz I sight read Braille and am very, very much slower than she is. I only learned the alphabet and numbers as a kid, so she's given me a list of contractions to learn so I'm slowly catching on to them. We see each other in person for about 10 mins on Wed. and Fri. at noon so then I can ask her letters I didn t understand. She's never had a guide dog, I'm curious why.... guess I'll ask her at lunch Tues. :) She's never been sighted so I explained a smiley face to her cuz it's a pain to write out (smile) all the time, so now she does a smiley face but it sure doesn t look like one in Braille! LOL

Well, I just learned what a smilie is on the computer. LOL Had my punctuation turned off cause don't need to hear all that stuff and when it came to the smile and frowns ... it was just blanks. I asked about it and was told about the smilies. Sooo, I put a sound scheme to them and now I have a cute little musical sound everytime y'all smile at me. Have a different one for wink and frown. Very WOW, don't you think? I hardly ever use Braille anymore. Too many talking products out there. Totally spoiled! I admire anyone who has been blind all their lives. Can't imagine it. I am still too visual for that. :) I will have to test you on your Braille. ;)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Neat-O so ya learn something new every day!!! LOL a cute smiley is a bit different than 2 5 2 3 5 6 ha ha! The only ones I tend to get mixed up are d and f cuz writing them in reverse makes the d an f and an f a d.

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Kooger, I am sorry to hear about your mother's health problems. Hope she gets the bleeding in control and it doesn't happen again. I think that is neat that you have learned a bit of Braille. Any type of communication is great. I would rather be hard of hearing like I am or even deaf before being blind any old day.

Maria, yes, that is interesting that Samson won't get out of the car. Next time, try baiting him with like a treat or piece of food so you don't hurt your back. I would definitely ask the previous owners on why this is happening.

Am making some applesauce, a huge batch for taking to my parents, leaving some for my son, and also having some in the freezer for my college son WHO IS COMING HOME ON THE 18TH! Just found out from him!
I am so excited to be able to see him. He got an interview for the dental school in Portland, Oregon on the 21st.

It is pouring down rain outside so had to do something construction here inside. Need to go to the store to stock up on supply for my son but dont' want to go out there!
Well, later all,
Carol (DR)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

The generator ran out of gas while I was getting reading to type before. So I went down, bought 10 gallons in the jugs and when I got back, the house was lit up like a christmas tree.

THE POWER IS ON!!!!!!!!!

Hot shower for me tonight, computer, TV, let's see what else can I do.....................

:^)))))))))))))))))))))

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

wow, everyone had such a busy day today. I wont even attempt to catch up and comment.

Maria, I think he just liked going for rides and he wasn't done yet. LOL

I had a friend when I was a teen that was legally blind and she tried to teach me sign language and Braille. I got some of the sign language but she said I had better add please don't ever let me be blind in my nightly prayers because I would be in big trouble.

Weather here was wonderful 83 today and clear skies. Went to the pool store with water samples from the pool and jacuzzi to ensure it was level for the upcoming winter. Picked up two bike tire tubes for DS bike. He is forever popping tires. Went to an estate sale, bought a rolled top desk, chair, light for 50.00. It is in perfect condition. Then went to the country store and bought another cast iron dutch oven with an interior rack for chicken. We love to cook with those when camping. Came home and picked up both boys and took them to get their hair cuts. While at the estate sale I also picked up a couple of blue plates. I want to make a bird bath with a mosiac tile bowl all done in blue and white.
I swung by Michaels to get some pine cones for the wreath, oh heck no. I will just have to take a drive up to Mt Charleston for some. They want 15.00 for a small bag. I would need a couple bags of a few different sizes.

I better get my butt in the kitchen and find something for dinner, told DH I would cook.

Casey

Edited to say Yahoo for Molly having power. Tell Darius I said hi and to take care....

yea, Molly, nothing like eletricity, especially now that is night and no more listening to generator, am so happy for you!

Casey , what wonderful buy with desk, etc. love sales like that LOL

That's just it, Daisy, I tempted him with lots of goodies but no dice, he jumps way up into the air why he could not jump down from the car I'll never know. He is unbelieveable strong . just came in from a walk he got a hold of his leash and pulled me by running backwards so fast I fell again, then he is all over me felt like a ton lying on top of me, he must be as long as I am tall am 5'5 and very slender , no wonder he can knock me over.
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Maria, for heavens sakes be careful with Samson - we don't want you to have any broken bones!! Maybe he didn't want to get out of the car because he still wanted more rides!!

Went to my cropping/scrapbook party and it was a blast!! I told the girl putting it on that I really wasn't interested in doing scrapbooking, I was just there to look and watch others. I made a small page and it turned out beautifully - and guess what - $187 later, I was all set up to do my own book. LO:L I am such a push over. DIL was instructed that she couldn't spend a penny and she didn't - I felt sorry for her - I bought extra so she could use my stuff - she is such a sweetie.

Thanks for all the support regarding the old bat of a MIL. She owns the business, stupid, lazy son runs it for her and they employ my DH (since he lost his job in the tool/die business) DH does answer the phone, but lazy brother won't call back the customers - no long distance on the phone- can you believe that stupidity!! And when DH takes orders, stupid brother always finds fault with the order and berates DH. Believe you me, I would tell him where to go and how to get there....There is absolutely no work in this area in DH field and he feels he is too old to start over in a new career- I just want him to be happy and earn a little $$. Enough of that!!

Julie- the rain is here and so in the lightning. DIL and I were at Sam's doing pics and it was a downpour- you could hear it inside even. And of course I had no coat with me!!

DH cut two loads of wood today, 6 more to go and we will have about enough for the winter. I don't help anymore as lifting wood gives my arm too much of a work out (at least that's what I tell DH - LOL LOL)

Molly - hooray at having power back - take a long bath enjoy!!

You gals have really been talkative today...took me forever to catch up on everyones activities!! Gotta go - I need a cup of hot cider...I'm pooped!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Sarv - glad to hear you had a blast scrapbooking! Haven't you been resisting for awhile on that?

Thunderstorm here since about 4:00 p.m. It's rolling in again, so I'd better get off the computer.

Jody

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Well Sarv and Jas, please stay out of the weather and enjoy a nice mug of hot cider.
Sarv, I know how convincing the scrapbooking dealers can be. I get suckered everytime. DH just laughs when I say I am not buying anything. I have the greatest intentions of saving the money. LOL
Maria please be careful. Samson would feel horrible if you were hurt because he just wanted to kiss your whole face.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am at my sister's and having a great time. I wish i could say that about our dogs. They have only met one time, and they have had several tussells, all about territory. They will be fine for the weekend though. I haven't read all the posts, will do that later. But just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone. Sarv I did read your post about MIL, what a b----! My MIL and I didn't get along for years, but now, I seem to be her favorite person. She has five daughters, and always asking me to take her somewhere. Oh well, next week, month, year, it will be someone else. Mollly glad to know that you have electricity now. Did you have to put on the sunglasses for awhile?

Well, will run, as I am not being a polite guest, but will check in again in the morning, then tomorrow night when I get home.

You all behave, and don't kill any MIL's while I am gone. I too have some dog stories, I will share, if we are still on the topic later. 101, glad to know you are out of the closet, and I want to know all about your computer equipment, as I too have macular degeneration, and it is progressing at a rapid rate. Don't tell me I will have to trade my Jack Russell Terrier (Mr B.) in for another type dog, when I need the seeing eye variety. Just love that little dog.

Well so long now.

Absolutely not! You can have any type pet you want. They all learn to respect each other. It was my personal choice not to have another dog, although I have known many people who have had several. They say it works out fine. Dmail me and we can chat about my computer all you'd like. I just try not to bore everyone else. :)
Hey Maria ... at the risk of sounding like a broken record ... please please do be careful. Don't want to have to come over there and scrape you up somewhere.
Y'all will have to educate me on "scrapbooking" I hear people talking about it but have no comprehension of what you do when you "scrapbook". When I was a kid we'd save stuff and put it in a scrapbook but somehow I don't think this is what y'all mean.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again folks. Well, I guess you could say I waited until the last possible minute to rototill the garden again, and it was snowing before I finished! No picture, sorry. The snow is sticking so I guess it is winter but a couple of weeks earlier than we usually get sticking snow. This might be shaping up to be a real doozie of a winter if it is starting this early. For those of you who have good weather, be thankful.

Molly, I'm glad you have power again. I bet it feels like a luxury after all these weeks without it.

Take care, Maria, I hope that obedience trainer gets there before you get hurt by the big loveable dog.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Just got back from Wal-Mart. I was disapointed that they didn't have any of the $1 or $2 Amarylis. The only ones I saw were $5.95.

Molly - So glad you got your power back on.

Maria- If your car is in the garage, why not just leave the car door open and let Samson get out when he's ready. I'm sure this will pass as he gets more secure in his new surroundings.

Sarv - Another crafting addict? I havn't tried scrapbooking yet. I don't have room for any more craft supplies.

Good night everyone. See ya tomorrow!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

ok been lurking checking in catching up ( as best as one can here)
had busy day and night and just back !!!
Can't comment on all but know that I tried!
Maria Samson will come along in time believe me he is smart!
I miss actually chatting here but so hard when running around all day seems I barely have time to read what others have writtem let alone add to it.
But Again I am here never too far behind just in the shadows!
Love and good wishes to all,
Anne

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

101 - today’s scrap booking is an enhanced form of what you did when you were young. Most often people take a few to several photos from the same event (vacation, etc.) and arrange them with mementos, and most important, journaling. I have seen many scrapbooks and the ones I find most interesting are the ones with journaling; whether it's just a few lines or a paragraph. Another thing that makes the pages interesting is type of paper used, and decorating with stickers, cut outs, beads, anything that relates to the photos making it more appealing with texture and depth while enhancing the photos.

Even without sight I think you would love scrap booking.

No time to talk...in between some strong thunderstorms again. Just wanted to let you know the "DAILY" is up for Sunday.

Here's the link:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555543/
Or just go to the PARKING LOT and look for the SUNDAY thread!

~julie~

Jody, I bet they are very pretty. With the different textures, etc. I could easily keep up with what picture where. Currently I store them on the computer and label them so I can pull them up to show. Was too bad at tossing them in a box. Have you ever tried getting your DH to put pics in a scrapbook? ;) Yeah right! He will download to the computer. Anytime the computer is involved ... that's different. LOL I've even been able to get him to take pics of my herbs for posting. Imagine that. :)
Well, if I'm going to get up and make it to church tomorrow I've got to put this bod in the bed! Y'all sleep tight.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine
Oh, if I wanted to change my DG name wherre do I request to do that? I don't want to embarris myself. hehehe Thanks. Just something I've been thinking about.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Contact Us and Dave will change ur user name one time, that s it, just once. :)

Thanks ... I'll be very sure first!

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Sarv, I really wanted to reply to your MIL actions earlier but after writing and deleting a couple of times I figured I better just leave it for a bit. So dont think I didn't care, I just get really upset over things like that. I hope that you and DH find a way to avoid having him return when they call and need help. And when it comes time for you to take her to the doctors I would kindly tell her that although you enjoy her company and doing things for her, you dont have the time or the finances to help someone else out right now. And be as sweet as can be about it.

l01~beware, scrapbooking can become a very expensive addiction. I have heard of women spend hundreds of dollars a month on supplies and tools. I dabble in it a little as I have a scrapbook of my DD's senior year in progress and it can get quite costly.

Well I think I have caught the stomach bug that has been roaming around a few friends of mine. Food is not setting well. I hope its just a 24 hour thing....

Casey

Hi Casey
I'm posting on Sunday's thread, but didn't want you to think I'd ignored your post here. Must have gone to bed before this was posted. Anyway, I certainly won't have to worry about spending that kind of money on scrapbooking. :) Can't spend what you don't have ... LOL The DH puts ours on the computer, and I label them which seems to work nicely. We really don't have that terribly many pictures since there's no kids and he's the only one taking them. I bet they are very pretty, though. I love doing things with my hands. I am in a RR and several of the girls have said they do that for hobbies, but didn't understand what they meant. Y'all have all enlightened me!
Okay, over to Sunday again!
