M5 - you mentioned in one of the other threads you were sending me dmail about the cookbooks. Just wanted to let you know I haven't gotten it yet.

Thanks a bunch!

Am I in the right room - is today Saturday LOL LOL

Grr- I have my underware in a knot.... went to visit my MIL yesterday and as I walked in the door, she announced 'we're laying Joe (DH) off" (DH works for her) She is such a t*rd. If I mention going there again, will someone give me a boot in the fanny. I will still take her for her monthly blood work, but don't plan on doing the weekly visits for quite a while. DH told me that if she lays him off, I am NOT to take her anywhere - she can find another sap to run her around. I have told her and told her I to not want to hear anything about the 'shop' - she just doesnt' get it....DH was in a major funk all last night and now I feel bad that I let it slip about the lay off.

He did manage to make me malted tho!! yum and I see there's another one in the freezer....

Today I am going to the scrap booking thing - would rather stay home and make a pinecone wreath that Jass gave the directions to. Bet by xmas we'll all have one hanging on the door!! I'd love to make a huge one to hang over the fireplace, but better try a smaller one first.

Called my sis and she was in bed with a terrible migraine. I feel for her, she gets them almost weekly and has to go to bed and sometimes even to the E room for a shot. Even being a millionaire doesn't help with headaches!

I mowed with the John D last night and after the shute plugged three times, I said nuts to it. DH can do it. Our lawn is covered with leaves that need to get off before the snow arrives. One year we didn't get it done and in the spring, we had major dead lawn. Don't want that to happen again!

Oh Maria, how are you going to get the bone from Samson now??? How about those pig ear things? DO you have a 'chow hound' or another pet store around you? I'd make a visit to one of those and speak to someone. We have one close and people can take their pets with them - it looks fun!

Our cat is still hanging with the 'stray' - I think she likes the company. The stray however got into our recycling stuff and made a mess. I think it is probably hungry and smelled some food in the cans. DH will not let me have another cat tho - DH is a good guy, but NOT a pet lover by any means.

Well, time for a couple of chapters in the book I'm reading- take care all!!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh Sarv, what a B$^&#! I'll bet she'll still expect you to drag her A** around. Prepare a script for the monthly blood test....and dominate the conversation with whining about how much gas costs, how much time it takes for you to take her there, how hard it is for your DH to be home all the time, blah blah. Don't even let her get a word in edgewise. What a rotten thing to do. You've mentioned how they don't make return calls or have an answering machine so it's no wonder they don't have any business to keep things going. Maybe your DH should open his own, do the same work, and be the competition!

by the way, am I in the right thread?????

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

m5 right thread!!! DH and I have talked about him starting up the same business, but it takes major $$ to get all the machinery and he isn't sure he wants to invest in all of it and I am positive I don't want him to!! He'd just get it all set up and croak of me and I would be left with the mess -- no thanks!! I have never met such a disfunctional family in my WHOLE life...they are stupid, mindless, idiots...(sorry everybody...on a rant here)

Gloomy, cloudy, and looks like it could rain here- ugly part of fall...and I still have things to get in the ground!!

Gotta get off here and wash the thinning locks....

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning, every one!
Sarv, are you telling me your husband's mother is laying her son off?????Something like that I just cannot imagine, how can families be like that? Incomprehensible to me. My Richard was a prof at Rhode Island school of design teaching Industrial Art, had has own business designing molds and dies for GE , Goverment and other elctrical firms.
When busines was slow he never laid any one off, he asked his employee's if they want to stay they could but work around the farm, perhaps fixing a roof or paint a building. None ever left and actually had fun doing these things for the same salaries. At Christmas time he gave every one a month salary. one year I said to him, how is it I don't get one of those fat checks? he laughed and gave me the same LOL
I took the rawhide away from him, it scared me, have to get a "greene" one, better safe than sorry, he is so wonderful I am happy to have found some one that loves me for a change since no one else does any more with the exception of my children, of course, at least I think Samson does.
Have been mixed up withe two threads, like you, Jody, lol, hope this is in the right one, did not mean to yack on and on about old memories but they just keep coming back and seems I have to put it down, all of you are such great help to me.
Samson has ben on his walk, if you can call it that, goes bananas out there, be glad when the trainer comes to help me, it is going to be $55.00 an hour but it will be here plus the invivible fence people will come for 7 days in a row to train him, Samson will have lover an acre to run about.
Enough for now, till later
Maria

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good Job, Maria!!! I think Samson will train well, and learn to walk like a gentleman very quickly, instead of dragging you about like a sled dog in a race! I was trying to get out of here and start breakfast, but no having any success.

Back later!!

Morning y'all
I hate this new time. Can't get use to it at all. Keep waking up every couple of hours thinking it's time to get up. Then ... just about the time I'm snoozing ... there's something outside my bedroom window that sounds like a baby bird. We shouldn't have baby birds around THIS time of year. I laid there listening to that sucker for a bit and finally just got up.
Sarv, I think all families are disfunctional. The DH thinks mine is and I think his is. Actually, sometimes I think everyone is but me :) ... and then I get worried about myself!
Maria, it will be worth the $$ to get Samson trained proper. He's a big boy and knows his own size. Believe me ... dogs are like children, you'll want him to know you're in control. Then you can just say ... "Come Samson or Down Samson" and he'll love doing it for you. Did you see my post about the Nylabone on the other thread when I was lost? They are very safe and recommended for guide dogs. Just a thought ;)
Well, the DH is going to paint again today, and I'm cooking another birthday supper. Guess I'll be back and to, so I'll talk to y'all later.
... Elaine

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Yes, I did Elaine wrote it down thought I said so but I got confused with the threads perhaps it went poof or just as I discovered right now I did not click in for the new thread, lol
Sorry to have to ask you why you need a trained dog, have been fairly new her so I must have missed something or actually lots of things, LOL
Baking pecan squares and lemon loaf but no one can have any, they are for the Museum Bazaar, sorry!
Yes, Sheila, money is not everything, have discovered that all they way back in my youth, along time ago
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Yes, Maria, MIL is laying off her son...she has done it twice before - once she called on is birthday and FIRED DH and DS . I will NEVER forgive her for that one- it ruined the party and I ended up writing a big check to my DS to tide him over. I am not sure she intends to be unkind, she just IS unkind! Does that make sense!! How wonderful of your DH to have his employees work on other stuff - that's the kinda guy I love!

Oh, give me patience. DIL and I were supposed to go to a scrapbooking thing from 9-3 today. I called her at 9 as she wasn't here yet and she told me she wanted to go work out first!! GRRR, I just don't understand todays youth...my silence must have told her I was upset...she said she would shower and come over. Now I feel bad - perhaps I didn't make the time clear to her. Sometimes it is better just not to plan on doing things with others I think!

I was so frazzled I grabbed the big hunk of fruit cake and downed it all.. It is full of sugar and I will pay for it later today!

DH was going out to cut wood and the other DIL just called and wants him to watch DGS, but not until 11:30..He was planning on leaving now. Now he is in a funk too. LOL (both of us have a hard time saying NO I think!)

I put on a new sweater and it must have wool in it as I am itching crazily...

Maria, I'm blind and have a beautiful yellow lab. She's a sweet little girl ... 65 lb. Small conpared to my guy before her who weighed in at 85.
I'm trying to get all y'all straight in my head. Which one is Sheila?
The pinecone wreath sounds soooo very pretty. Meant to say something about it earlier, but forgot. I'm no good with my hands. Use to love macromae, but you don't see the stuff for it anymore.
Does anyone know anything about canna bulbs? I got one yesterday from a friend and don't know what to do with it. I'm so green when it comes to planting. Everyone seems to be so smart and know exactly what to do. Oh well, I'll get back up before the DH catches me back in here! :-)
... Elaine

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Looks like even with all the confusion our people are finding the current thread. And even you stick around in the previous day's session, that's ok too. Most of us will probably be 'watching' the thread so we'll know when a post is made.

Actually, I feel like there's a lot more freedom with the daily threads. At least catching up won't be like climbing a mountain. AND we *can* answer something in the thread we found it in, if we choose.

Sarv, I'm SOOOOooooo P.O.d at your MIL!! What the he-dbl-L did she thing she was doing?! With all the time you put in trying to make sure she has what is needed (blood tests, DR visits, shopping, and a heck of a lot of TIME) you get "the news"? SUCKS ROCKS my dear..it just sucks rocks! That kind of thing is NOT supposed to happen within a *family* business. Like Sheila said...if they were running business the right way (Like SOMEONE to answer the phones - which BTW you DH *could* do in a pinch!) there would BE enough work to carry the business through tough times...especially the family members! ARGHHHHHH this is one subject that really gets under my skin.

Maria...you have no idea how happy I am to see YOU so happy with Samson. My family had a golden many years ago...and in our opinion there's just not a better breed out there. Several can equal, but none can surpass. I was thinking about last night when I saw the Madison news. There was a story on there about a new "Therapy Dog" a fire department had gotten to help with the trauma of firefighters dealing with the deaths they face in the line of duty. Guess what breed it was? Yep! One of themost beautiful Golden Retrievers I've ever seen. It nearly killed me to see that they had it muzzled! A golden *isn't* going to BITE ANYONE!!! Might *lick* someone to 'death'....but *never* bite! LOL

Elaine...I know there are certain "rules" a person is supposed to follow with their guide dogs, and I know that they aren't supposed to be allowed to be "spoiled". But, if I had one of those magnificent animals careing for me, if it wanted to sleep on my bed...you'd better believe that's where it would sleep. And I wouldn't have any guilt feelings over it.

Oh I meant to say...Maria...Elaine's absolutely right when she tells you that you *need* to have Samson trained. Dogs *are* just like children, and they *will* push the envelope of obedience...I hate to say this, but it's from experience...especially Goldens. LOL They are smart, *Strong* dogs. The one we had wasn't trained other than by us. I could tell you stories all day long about the funny (but potentially obstinate) character of our dogs. (Ahhhhh....the memories!)

Hi Sheila...Bye Sheila!

Now I'll preview this to see who has posted while I've been typing....
Ok Sarv was back and so was Elaine....Sarv the above STILL holds true (but I'm even pore PO'd at the birthday firing!! DIDN'T she KNOW it was his BIRTHDAY???? She was THERE when it happens for pete's sake (BORN that is!!). Elaine...We've had two yellow labs...and just thinking of them gets me 'squishy' inside. I swear they are born care-takers. (Yes, I have a lot of stories to back that one up too. :-))

Signing off now...at least for the time being. (Have to catch up with the other threads now. hehehe)

Sheila is Sue . I01, I will use her name GD from now on, one more question how did you become blind? Seems so sad for me to hear this, one of these days, and I hope it will be a few years, I too willl be blind with dry macular degeneraton, . Darius said there is something on the market when I talk it will be printed, but how will I know what others are saying?
Edited to say I had this since 19770, Drs said most unusual at that age

Maria, may I correct you? Sarv is Sue, and Sheila is Meezers5 sometimes abbreviated to M5. (Elaine, Meezers is the shorthand for her Siamese cats).

Maria, I have not been on the computer since I'm travelling but I am thrilled to hear how you are doing with Samson!

Oh Maria ... so sorry to hear about the maccular. That's a bummer. I don't know your particular situation, but can feel for you and what you are going through. I lost my sight at 20 from detached retinas. It's easier to adjust when you are young, and technology has come a long way since the 70's. I use a program with my computer that talks to me called JAWS. Couldn't do without my computer. If you'd like more info, Dmail me. Don't want to hijack this thread.
I didn't know you could see who all had posted while you were typing by previewing your post. Will have to try that, Judy. My typing is okay, but my brain is slow. :) I have to keep going back up to check on what I forgot! LOL
I know I've forgotten to say hello to lot's of y'all, so just excuse me. Also, forgive my spelling errors. It's really the puter's fault ... not mine! Oh one thing I did mean to say to you Maria is ... don't feel sorry for me cause no one can take away my memory. Now how do you explain a rainbow to someone who has never had sight? Hmmmm.
Oh how way cool is that! I saw Darius and her post. Haven't done that before. Actually, I have to give her the credit for even mentioning the "blind" thing. She said I should 'fess up! :) Okay, I'm out of here!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Just a quick check-in. Pleasant day today, if rather chilly. Have all my cannas, callas, begonias, etc. in the enclosed porch which need to be tended to before they freeze.

Also have to go into the Food cupboard this afternoon to let carpet cleaners in and pay them. They were supposed to come yesterday - we have a standing order for the first Friday of every 2nd month at 1 pm. It doesn't make sense having carpet in our building, but that's what the city put there and since we don't pay rent, we don't complain. Anyway, they made a scheduling error and agreed to come today since all the chairs, boxes, etc. have been put up on higher ground to make room for them.

And I need to practice. Ottawa Symphony concert is in another two weeks. We have our viola section rehearsal tomorrow afternoon and the string rehearsal on Monday evening. Full orchestra doesn't meet till next week - Sunday evening and it gets pretty intensive from there.

May not be around much for the next couple of weeks. Repertoire for the concert on Monday November 21 is:

Lavallée/Ridout -O Canada
Elgar - Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1
Weber - Jubal Overature
deLisle/Berlioz - Hymne des Marseillais
Ravel Daphnis et Chloé Suites Nos. 1 & 2
with University of Ottawa Choir, Carleton University Choir and Reginal Youth Choirs

Have done the Daphnis et Chloé a couple of times before and it's among the more difficult repertoire I've played. Time to get out my old French bow. It literally seems to feel just how to play this French music.

Have a good day.

Ah SHOOT!!! I forgot to preview and missed Ann! Don't worry if you're aren't able to post responses in the next few weeks, Ann. That's a pretty busy schedule you have going there. But please check the PARKING LOT...and post a "HI!" in the current daily, ok? That way we know your projects haven't taken you completely away from us.

Just popping i to say HI! Been up sing 6, but puter modem was not cooperating with me. Had to get BIL to look at it. Might be a problem with the wire coming into the house.

Sarv. So sorry to hear about the problems with your MIL. Hope all works out for you in the end. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, we just don't always see it at the time.

Maria. Glad everything is going well with Samson.

Still having a hard time keeping up and keeping everyone straight. Hope everyone has great weekend.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Down to SIX more posts on my watched list!! (I'm making progress...but I hafta go potty! :-( I'll be behind again when I get back LOL)

Hi SuzieQ!! Don't worry about 'the names'...glad you said "HI" sorry about the modem. DANG computers, anyway!)

~julie~

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Yup I'm meezersfive, although technically we are down to three. Max has gone back to DS and is currently terrifying their two cats, so fur is flying and a lot of hissing going on. There's some nice Honey Crisp Apples on the counter, I'm too busy to bake anything because I am cleaning my kitchen. By that I mean the ooky corners and shelves and dust/grease catchers. Ugh. Good thing I don't see them every day. Next will be the 'frig shelves since they are almost empty. Then I quit. Just had to take a break to see what was going on.

Maria, my daughter's first golden had a stubborn disposition. When she got her, I went along and then sat with her in the kitchen for quite a while, and that dog absolutely loved me and would do anything for me...which, as you can imagine, really got DDs goat!! If we were on the phone Meg would come and sit by her and try to "talk" to me, wooo woooo woo. Always knew when it was me. They are lovely dogs. But, you will have to be "top dog", and take no nonsense from him because they are exactly like Elaine and Juliel said, kids, and will push the limits until they know you are serious. They are usually eager to please, so training will be good for them, and you!

Ok, the chores are calling my name, best I tackle the rest before I lose my momentum.

Sheila

Edited to catch typos...bet I missed some.

He is justwonderfull, Sheila, very energetic makes me run all over the yard till I am out of breath, and laugh, I do not think I have laughed so much since he arrived then the whole sad year before . And smart as a whip.
Maria

(Zone 8b)

Maria - goldens are smart - they are also very quick to learn and almost never forget. So make sure he learns the good stuff first! They don't respond well to harsh handling, proffessional trainers sometimes don't get the best results because they are more used to German Shepherds etc who have a tougher personality. Goldens do what you ask because they want to please you, so you just have to let them know you are happy when they do it right. Yelling at them just makes them go cringy and then they won't do anything at all for fear of getting it wrong. Get the trainer to stop him pulling on the lead because that takes strength, and obviously he needs to be taught where the fence is, but otherwise you shouldn't need much help with the rest.
Way back my DH was resettlement officer in a military hospital, finding jobs and futures for those with mental trouble. He often took my big golden boy with him when he was interviewing, if the guys didn't mind dogs. He discovered, by accident one day when he was dog sitting to keep him away from "interesting' girls at home, that they would open up to the dog when they were scared to talk to him.
Star would sit between DH and the person and stick his nose under an elbow and nudge it for attention. DH would talk to the dog asking the dogwhat he thought the guy would like to say, how he would be best suited etc The guy would often tell Star all about himself, his hopes and fears etc. They carried on lots of conversations never speaking to each other - just to or for the dog. He was a really boisterous dog too, but just knew when people couldn't cope.
Like Ernie's old girl he was always very gentle and careful around small children. When he met my stepbrothers girl friend - who was severely disabled, he was just as gentle. Sat with his head in her lap all day - she wanted to take him home. He knew I was bigger and tougher and was never as calm for me! but boy was he affectionate!
I'm so glad you now have a friend!

Sarv that MIL is the pits - I would tell her if she lays Joe off she lays you off as well and she can find someone else to help out - or pay for the service. I really wouldn't let her think she can walk all over you like that. It isn't fair to your DH either.
Glad to hear Darius made it safely one way - now she has to get back again!
Molly - love the new home I bet you are really excited to get there now!
Got to dash - lunch time -

Carol

Oh yes, Maria ... VERY SMART! All I have to say to my girl is ... "where's your belly?" and over she goes. Then when it's time to clean her ears ... I just say mon ... let's clean your ears. She lays down ... I clean one and then say roll over. Yep, over she goes. I clean the other. Smart girl. I have to spell around her, too. Yeah yeah, I know you're thinking ... she's off her rocker! ;) but when a dog stays by your side all the time and listens for your commands, they pick up on so much. Okay, y'all know about plants and kids, etc. I know about dogs! I'll probably wear you out talking about the antics of my Kota girl! :)
... Elaine

(Zone 8b)

Elaine - No you won't - I'm a dog person too!!! talking of spelling I had to around mine too - we would talk about the C.. A.. R.. because mention car and they went straight to the door! and thats just one example.
Warning though Maria - goldens dig - my lawn was pock marked with craters half way to Australia!!
Carol

Oh my DH had a black lab and golden mix and did that dog ever dig! We could have buried the house in one of his holes. :) I absolutely could not have a yard back then. He was a beautiful dog, though. He had seizures and died. Very sad. Died in the DH's arms. He's very sensitive. Thought my heart would break for him. Since then, he's just loved my dogs. Mine, of course, live in the house ... so no prob with that now. She knows "truck" "go" "mailbox" and well, EVERYTHING! The one thing I did really bad is we named her treats "cookies" That's what they called them at the school (Leader Dog). Now if we have visiting children over and I ask if they want a cookie ... I have to hand them out all the way around. :) Of course the baby gets her own. ;)

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

had to deliver the baked goods to the museum, my daughter suppose to have picked it up (now you just wait Miss Lende, you are going to get an earful)!
Had to put Samson in his cage, of course he would not go in it, don't blame him, I would not either! Had to lift him, he weighs a ton and oh my poor back, the girls will say , we told you not to get a dog, too much work and you only will hurt youself!...Oh well, I will not give him up, I will pay close attention to the trainers, you better belief it, Okus!

I have also noticed how he likes to dig keeps diigging at my orientals that once belonged to my DH great aunt via marriage she got them from her brother who was a surgeon in the crimean war and was killed there , you can see how old they are, but am not too wotrried about them, but I do tell him to stop it.
Maria

Maria, what type of collar do you have on him? Get you one of the chain kind that slips over his head. You want it to drop down to his chest bone that sticks out in front. Keep him on leash on your left side. When he does something bad ... snap the leash ... a quick wrist movement. don't tug. Dogs think you are playing if you tug. They llike to play tug of war and they will always win! :) Be consistent with him ... using the same word over and over. "NO" firm, but not loud. Loud is not important. Just stern. Be quick with praise and very cheerful. He wants to please you. Okay, taking my nose out again! :)
Darius, if you're lurking and just staying quiet ... HELP! I really did a number on my baking sheet the other night when I roasted the garlic for the bread. The aluminum tore and the olive oil baked on that special surface they're putting on everything now days. Just can not get it off. Ooooh, makes me soooo mad. It was a new pan. I've roasted garlic zillions of times and never had this sort of mess. Go figure.
Y'all quit talking about all this interesting stuff. I've GOT to get in that kitchen.
Bye!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Sorry...I'm just here for a minute but couldn't resist telling the tale of our "Major" (golden) who was caught by the dog catcher in town. He was put into a compacted gravel holding 'cell'. When we went to pick him up (Everyone KNEW who he belonged to) he was nowhere to be found. We figured he'd dug his way out...but come to find out he CLIMBED over an 8 ft fence. (We found him laying under a table at the A&W across the street from the dog pound...begging french fries from the Car hops. LOL)

He's also the one who got locked in the garage accidently while we were away. That time he escaped by jumping through CLOSED window. No Blood!...just hairs. LOL (Yep! I'd say ours had a mind of his own. And he *really* like the 'ladies')

Just checking back. waiting for the washer to stop so I can switch a load then its back outside. I'm working on a new bed for next year. I want to get it finished and put a few bulbs in. It's the only shady spot onthe property, so I want to do something a little different there.

DH and I might go to Wal-mart tonight. I don't really like going with him. I can spend an hour in Wal-mart and he's done in 20 min! Guess it's like when I go with him to tractory supply. I can be done and waiting for him for 1/2 hour.

DGS is going to take a nap soon. The quiet will be nice!

DH and a friend are doing repairs on the barn today. Good weather this weekend to catch up on that stuff.

I hear the washer spinning, so time to go. see ya later!

Gosh, Julie, did he not have a tag on him? What a dog!

Yes, Elaine, he has that kind of collar now and that is exactly what I do, always on the left side pull for a secod and he stops but not for long LOL back to yanking me along but he will learn, I know, I love it when you tell me all you know aout dogs since you have quite a lot of experiences with them. Your kitchen mustsmell wonderful, love the smell of garlic and onions too. Where yu going to email me about being on here without being able to see?

Still raining. Lit the propane heater in the shop to take the chill off and spent a pleasant hour working on the door jamb carving, till my back got tired. Being optimistic, it might only take 8 or 10 hours of whittling to finish off. Last nights chili had some bite, but not too much. The corn bread muffins hit the spot too. 'Gonna add some more beans and a can of tomatoes today.

Happy Saturday Jenny. Hope you are feeling better, and you too Ernie.

Glad Samson is working out Maria. He's a fine looking fella.

Best wishes to all, especially those with questionable in-laws, those on the road, and friends getting their new home set up.

Casey, it is good to meet you. Julie, yes my name is really Betty.
So did you stay at darius'? Are you still there? Helping her move? Boy missing 2 weeks is hell.
so darius, you are going to stay with your sister again? Is her daughter still at home or off to school somewhere? Are the 2 of you still thinking of buying a place in Boone?
I hope you are feeling better. Sorry about the foot. I worry with you on the road so much, just so much traffic and wrecks.
Jody, my spousal unit is a nightowl. We tell folks he gets up at the "crack of noon." He is building a small greenhouse now, attached to the side of a kiln shed. He works with spotlights at night. He's out there digging around until about 3 a.m.
sarv, be careful with the scrapbooking thing. Some places sell "archival" plastic sleeves that aren't really archival. Try Light Impressions. I'm sure you can find them on Google.

Ahhhh too many people too many interesting things to comment on! :) Wish I had a green house! No where to put my herbs come winter. Will jam a few on the front porch as being in GA they will gold up a long time. Got the DH out there planting my cannas I got yesterday. He'd better not come in here and catch me on the computer again. Maria, lordy ... I went back and read my post and sure sounded like a no-it-all to me. Didn't mean to. You have a trainer ... he'll instruct you. You don't need an internet instructor. :) I'm sorry, I'll dmail you. Didn't want you to think I was being pushy.
Got mad with my sis this morning. Lots of friction in my family, also. Hope things smoothe out, Sarve. I've found out from past experience that family and business sure doesn't mix! Okay, got to go check the beans. Poor Darius ... am serving her cake tonight. Forgot to give it to her, and y'all haven't eaten it up. Am having a southern meal. This is a divorced guy that doesn't cook, so am doing all that bad for you stuff. Will try to check in later.

Good morning. It's a beautiful day in _________'s neighborhood, not mine, unfortunately. Low 30's, windy and overcast. I need to bundle up and go out there to continue the fall clean up. Things get way ahead of me when I am gone so much, and now it is a race against the real winter weather.

This morning my hubby took me out to breakfast (cheaper than going out to dinner) and then we got enough groceries to use the $10 off a $50 grocery order coupon I found in the paper. Safeway has these about once a month around the 1st of the month so folks on SS can use them and save some $. I don't do much coupon shopping because the things that I usually find coupons for are not things I use or eat. So, this coupon deal is great for me.

Sarv, the MIL business deal is the pits. It would serve them right if he went to work for a competator. I agree that opening his own shop would be an expensive alternative and owning your own business is something that takes ALL a person's time and energy. Vacation time? Forget it for about 5-10 years. 8 out of 10 new business ventures fail in the first year. Not good statistically unless he is a workaholic.

Speaking of work, it's time for me to do some. See you later.

You are so right about stating your own business, MaryE, my husband did, he worked all day till 1 am the next day, no vacation every bit of money he made went back into the business, his Mother said to me are you not worried, Maria, without payckeck? I said not for a moment it is his life he can do as he pleases and yes he was a workaholic and ended up very successfull but this is not for everyone

Oh my Sheila, not hail!

I am sitting here in the house by the computer because I was outside working in the yard trying to get things done before leaving for Bellingham again tomorrow and it started to pour down rain. It is cold, 40 degrees and wet. My rear-end was even soaked and cold. Got a few things put to bed, got most of the veg. garden dug up and put down some mint compost, put some of the plants close together so they won't freeze tho it isn't to freeze yet but the weatherman is always wrong, and then cleaned out the garage a bit so I can have a place to put the dahlia tubers.

Bal, I love your wood work. Can't wait to see it in real life soon.

Sarv, yes, families are a pain in the butt at times. I am assuming that your DH is the last worker they have? Are you saying that they would keep an outside before a family member? Hope not.

Mary, your weather over there doesn't sound very nice either and much colder than here. You keep it there for awhile please. I still need to plant my bulbs and dig my dahlia tubers.

I01, too bad Darius didn't take that cake. Just pass it around here then.

Maria, I haven't said anything about your puppy/dog because I wasn't sure if you were going to keep him. He sounds like a good dog to keep you company and keep you out of trouble since you have things to do for and with him now. That is good to have someone to care for.

Hi, Julie, am thinking about you when I am outside looking at those dang dahlias and wished I could just wave a wand and they would all be dug up, cleaned off, and stored away in a poof.

I made some chicken and stuffing last nite with some peanut butter cookies. All is on the counter for you all for your dinner. Turned out pretty good. I put some broc. in the stuffing mix and it was good. Use some of my onions from the veg. garden too.

Will be heading north again for a week of taking care of Dad and Mom. Dad is now walking up and down stairs, but still can't take any steps by himself yet without the walker. So my goal is to get him walking before I leave next Sunday. But he just keeps going, trying hard, and never ever complains. I do have wonderful parents, I will say that. Now my sister is another story. She lives in the same town as my parents and she only does for them what she wants to, not what they really need. So I am the one who has to drive 6 hrs to help them for 2 weeks while she just sweeps in to visit whenever it is convenient for her. Don't mean to complain but it just bugs the he** out of me when I have a job too. But no matter, I love spending time with my parents.

Later, Carol (DR)
