cucumber beetles

My cucumber patch is pathetic. Haven't had a bloom, let alone a cuke. Leaves riddled with holes, an unsightly mess! I've turned vigilante. Haunt the cucumber bed and brutally squish the little yellow with black stripe bug***s with my bare hands! Me who could never bring herself to kill a fly! Anyone else have this problem? Any organic solutions?
