Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi all GOB's have been away for the entire day and it has taken me about an hour to catch up. I posted last night at about this time, and was so proud of myself, as I addressed everybody, told about our trip to see our son and the wonderful meal we had, and hit something other than send, and my post is circling out in cyber space somewhere. Ah drat, computers are a god send, (if they are working right) and the devil, if they are not, not to mention the idiots who operate them. Glad to see that eweed has decided to join us, Bal will be jealous now that he has male competition!! LOL. That new fur kid of his is taking alot of his time, I am feeling slighted!!

Sarv, you are a push over, but we love you anyway. Maria, so glad that you are feeling better, and that you had a nice visit with your daughter today. Meezer, yuck on your mess under the sink. I don't like those nasty surprises. DR, I said in my post last night that I was really glad to hear theat your DF is doing better, and was so glad to read Molly's posts. At least she will be with us part time until the power is restored. Darius, sorry about the cut, please make sure you are taking care of it, as that is such a tender place, and hard to heal. Update on DH's finger, after the dog bite, it looks horrible, but I think it is doing okay. Still wish that he had gone to have it looked at. I am still cleaning and bandaging it 2x a day. Don't want him to lose his nasty waving finger, as they come in handy sometimes!!! Went to a friend's open house this afternoon. It is a lady who is a fellow church member, but has recently lost her husband and moved to the same town where her daughter lives. She lived in a small trailer, and now has a very nice house. So glad for her. Will check in tomorrow morning, but then taking a friend to lunch. Her DH of 12 years, just asked for a divorce, and Wednesday is her birthday. I think she could use some cheering up. BTW, she is married to my first cousin, and what a rat he is. Not taking sides, but this is his 3rd wife, and all but the first has gone through the same thing. DH is advising that I "stay out of it", but human decency dictates that I try to help her out of her black hole. I really like her.

Oh well, off to try to sleep, with this time change, it is hard. I may get used to it when it is about time to change again in the spring!! Sweet fluffies to all of you.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good night all. The Standard time is catching up to me.

Ann

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Eweed, I have dug tubers in the fall and split them in the spring. But this fall, I plan on digging tubers for trading. But your dahlias sure look good in those pics. That greenhouse looks like a nice one and sure is full.

tgif, love that lemon chicken idea.
Also love that cin. ice cream recipe. Must try that sometime.

Later,

Defocat, I agree its hard to stay out of something when you see someone hurt because of someone else lack of compassion. I hope she see's that with out him she is still capable of achieving so much. Maybe more. Have a wonderful lunch.

Maria, I am glad to see that the meds are helping and you are getting your good health back.

Darius, I hope your foot feels better in the morning.

Meezer, I hope your plumbing issues are a thing to laugh about by lunch.

I hope all have a good nights sleep tonight.

Good Morning!! Just finished off the baking powder biscuits and for a treat had a mini choco cheese cake thing I made. Not sure if the receipe will be put in the receipe box yet. They were pretty tho served on a pedestal dish.

Gala for my mom went well. Sis showed up 45 min late - what's new and entertained us all with her silly antics. She waltzed in with nothing to contribute to the dinner (which always frosts me) I did make a dip for her, but she neglected to pay me for the ingredients, but I won't get in a tizzy over it. It was a 'man' type dip - lots of meat and cheese. It all went, so I think it was a hit!!

Several people there had the cough/sniffles. Sure hope I don't pick it up..yuck... DGS went with us and was an absolute treasure - ate a huge plate of food and then disappeared downstairs to play pool the entire evening. He is such a sweet heart and so well behaved. His folks were at the Pistons game and had a flat tire on the way home with no spare. Oh woe is me - they were hours later than planned and really ticked at the other couple they went with for not having a spare. Long story - got home safely - that's all that counts.

Deer caracus is hanging in our barn - I can hardly stand to see it and certainly don't want to EAT it!! LOL DGS invited all the neighbor kids over to see it! It is so warm here that I am worried about the meat keeping.

Darius - ouch - take care of the nasty - hard to hobble around one legged. I've never seen that movie....a tear jerker you say? A good cry is good for cleaning out the pipes- I however always seem to get a cold after a big cry session- don't ask me why?

Ernie - can I move in with you?? I'd love that greenhouse... Mine is so small, but better than nothing!! Today I am going to take a look at the dahlia tubers and see what damage I can find. Then I need to get a bale of peat moss to pack them in. A trip to the garden store always entails spending more $$ than I had planned!

M5- $%#&* disposers!! Mine is missing a grinding fin - do you think DH could replace mine too? DH said he will fix it when it really goes to pot... wonder how I could help it along.

Maria - has your name changed to Maria Sue (eating chocolates like me....hmmm) I still think a doggie should be in your life..

Well, I need to go clean up after yesterdays cooking marathon.... See ya later. SS

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Morning everybody

Glad you are up, Sue, I have been up for such a long time, even have been for a walk as it was getting lighter. NO more chocolate for me instead of dinner. Blooms was right should have eaten something took an Ambien and nearly passed out a minute later, sheesh, won't do that again, guess I am still not on the up and up as I thought.

I dont think, Ernie will let you move in, Sue, some of us have tried but his wife is right there with her Rifle chasing away all the women that are after him
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOLLOL

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Daisy lol that gh is almost empty at this stage. The hanging baskets and big container plants are out at this point for the most part. What you see there is the start of around what will be 1500 annuals I grow for some spoiled person who claims them when they are ready to put into the ground lol I get a kick out of her when people come over and I here her say and these are my wave petunias and these are my and these are my and Ernie what are these . Some times I say those are yours you tell me lol.

Maria up at 1:35 thats as bad as me being up at 4:00 due to the clock change my body says it is 5:00 so where does this daylight savings give me an extra hours sleep.

Sarv sure you can move in bring you favorite weeding tools lol cause gh and garden magic just don't happen for free lol. Gh is a great hobby but they have down sides built to small you can't do enough with them but the bigger you build them the more you have a tendacy to overfill them making them to small again anyway and all this equals a lot of work. Yesterday we puttered two hours just collecting the pots and flats fron spring planting so we can bring the overwintering stuff in. As to the deer lol grind it up and make sausage out of it good stuff.

sarv - its easy to demolish the disposal - just "forget" to take that last spoon out of the dish water, empty said dish water down the disposal and let 'er rip! Works every time.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Mornin all! The good news is the sink has two basins, and the side with the disposal will be unused until we replace the unit. The other side doesn't cause it to leak, because of the way the pipes are situated, so I can still run water etc.

Maria, I'm so glad the sleep meds are helping, but you need to take it just as you are getting to bed,if it works that quickly. So far, the OTC stuff works for me, and I don't use it every night.

Supposed to be nice again today, maybe I can get the rest of the bulbs in. And get a disposal. And maybe tidy up the guest room which looks like Fibber McGee's closet, and if you know who that is you know you qualify for social security.

We're invited for dinner at the new house Wednesday. And we get to bring Max along, so we will be down to three cats. Poor Mini, she misses her buddy Hobbes so much she has become my new best friend, which upsets the little princess Souky no end as she considers my lap her exclusive territory. Maybe they will attach themselves to each other and leave me alone...fat chance!

I'm going to get dressed and Attack the Day! See y'all later...

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

tgif, I was going to suggest the same thing about the disposal, and forgot to include it....also, a large screw of some kind will do the job nicely, and be less obvious! Uhhhh , forgot, I was leaving to do something, wasn't I??

Just beautiful, Ernie, you are a master gardener! And to think you have a full time job besides all that work you must do through the year with your gardens and green house, how do you do it?
Maria

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

and forty of these so you see 16 x 32 fills up pretty fast , Mary the cat likes living there and I like hanging out there especialy in the winter lol I get my own bright winter light source supply having an occasional nap in there in the sun at 75 or 80 when the outside temp is in the 30s ok no more boring you with pics have a good day

Thumbnail by eweed
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

That is NOT boring, Ernie, never on this thread or any where else
Maria

Starkville, MS

ernie - my cats love the gh too. That's 'cause I never am able to spot all the anoles and tree frogs hiding in the plants so some of them end up spending the winter playing in the plants and hiding from the cats. It works out fairly well most of the time, but occasionally, I have to give emergency care to a plant or two that become casualties of the chase. I brought in a Mother-in-law tongue the other day (nights are getting quite cool now and it has two bloom stems on it) and as I was trimming off some dead leaves, I almost cut a tree frog nestled into the curl of a leaf! I cut the leaf farther down and took leaf and frog back outside!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

tgif- LOL spoon down the shoot- never thought of that!!

Decided NOT to go to the work out joint today- shame on me. I have sink full of soaking dirty dishes, two beds unmade, laundry pile to my shoulders and assorted papers scattered here and there. Think I need to stay home and tackle some of that chaos. (and am I doing it?? no here I am....)

Yum Ernie - we call those 'deer _icks' (put a d where the _ is) Don't want to get the hand slapped!! I just remembered that I have my mom's old meat grinder - will need to tell DS about it - maybe he will do hamburger out of the deer. Oh, man all those baskets- you ARE a man after my heart...

M5- I remember Fibber and I am not social sec age yet!! Must have watched a lot of TV/radio stuff as an infant.

Time to get my fanny in gear - gonna work for an hour then check back here- chat a bunch!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Sheila...a *screw*!!! That would most definitely do the job!

Ernie...those are beautiful pics. I am SO envious of that greenhouse. But, if I had one here, I certainly wouldn't want the heating bills it would rack up...so I guess I'm not all that envious after all.

"Hi" to everyone.

Darius...please be careful with that injured foot. That's the one thing that bothers me a lot. For a diabetic who has already lost the feeling in my feet, I sure don't want someone else's stupidity being the cause of losing them. (I'd have been quite upset about cutting myself...but even moreso at the guy for not at least telling me so I could clean it up properly.)

Weather was a lttle rainy, but nice, here yesterday and is supposed to continue for the next few days. I got several containers cleaned out, soil dumped into the flower beds, and got that *enormous* clay pot situated on boards up under the covered deck. I sure hope it's "ok" for the winter. No place to store that monster.

Today, I'll be outside for most of the day. More cannas to dig, glads to get out of the ground, a few more containers to empty and a storage space that needs to be organized before I start throwing the odds and ends in there for the winter. I have a few dahlias in containers that need to be dug and stored. And then there's moving all the plants I want to winter over, over to the garage/shop building on my DS's property. Looks like I have a full day ahead of me. I'd better get started or it will all still be there next spring.

Y'all have a GREAT day!

~julie~

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Sue, just do not invite me to have any of that venison, rather have any of your other yummy food you cook like apple pie LOL, have not had one of those for sooooo long forgot what it tastes like!
Now that reminds me have some venison in the freezer my neighbor gave me when he went hunting in PA, it has been there for a long time, time to throw it out.
Know what you mean about heating a green house, Julie, thought I want one too many years ago, but DH nixed it still wonder why, usually he gave me everything I ever wanted, now was I ever spoiled or what?
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Maria-= get a small greenhouse- I have one - it is only 6x8 and I love it. I go out and stand in it and just look and look at my treasures. I only use it in the spring. Last year I only put the heater on twice (when we had really freaky snow storms coming)

I am done with my cleaning - all that I am going to do anyhow!! Dishes done, beds made, two loads of laundry done (one still to fold tho) - need to pick up Sun newspapers- but still need to look thru them one more time.

Still cloudy and gloomy here - I cannot get a moving when the weather is so dreary. Sun makes my body rev up!! I have a library book that I need to read before it is due on Wed= see I do have something to do!! LOL

Gonna call a friend and then read for a bit. AND stay off here!!!!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Ernie, you are absolutely amazing ! I remember the photos of your yard, think it was last years, and it is breathtaking. You seem to have boundless energy to keep up with it all, and work, and fishing, and hunting, and cooking/smoking.

Meezer, do you think if both sink drains suddenly plugged up and there were no more clean dishes that DH would be spurred on to fix the problem ? Someone said the way to a mans heart (?) is through his stomach. Perhaps if meals were withheld it may get his attention.

The kids get their "potty treat" when they come in from doing their 'job'. Both leap up like jumping jacks, Immy in particular. Now she has learned to sit on command for her treat. Still haven't found a competition Obedience trainer nearby, have to keep looking. It was dry enough yesterday to dig up the Hostas. Got a nice big pile to washout and divide and replant. Having the area next to the fence cleaned out is a good reason for re-landscaping.
Time for a shower and trip to the Doc for the semiannual poke-and-prod ordeal.Back soon.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. You have all been so busy and yacking a lot.

Welcome Ernie, I'm glad you found us. The pictures of the plants are just beautiful, and such a nice contrast when I look out the window here and see most of the leaves on the ground, stormy sky and weather to match. This doesn't look like a day to get much done outside, but I might get my fighting clothes on and go out to battle the weather for a while. Meanwhile, I'll build a fire in the woodstove so the house will be warm when I come back inside.

The endurance ride went very well. I spent most of Friday getting there as usual. This ride was in the central Oregon desert climate with the Cascade Mts in the background to our west. Saturday started out cold but warmed up about 10 miles into the ride so my fingers and toes didn't fall off after all. Most of the day was sunny with a high temperature at about 55 degrees, a pleasant breeze and just a prefect day. The mountains were beautiful with their new coats of snow, and there had been some recent rain so the trails weren't dusty. I rode Breezy this time and we finished the 60 miles just about half an hour after dark. My mare is for sale so I took her along and my friend rode her in the 75 mile division, finished ok and had no problems at all with her. She took her home to sell her and I brought home a gray gelding to keep until she has room for him again. I also transported a mare for somebody who had her in that area for breeding and needed a way to get her home so my trailer was full (and heavy) for the trip home. Got half my trip paid for just for hauling that one home. Oh yes, and I did win the mileage championship with my closest competion 140 miles behind me.

Maria, I'm glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. It will take some time to get your energy back.

Time to get moving. I hope all of you have a great day.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

How nice to read a post from you again, Robert, guess you don't have much time to cook your favorite recipes plus your garden work what with tending to your pups, they are very dear too look at, and very smart to learn so fast.

Thanks, Mary, feel much better, we have beautiful weather here, nice Indian summer, warm as can be for this time of the year.

Sarv, go take a rest, it makes me tired just reading all the things you , sheesh, do you rate with Ernie, but I bet he is a hard task master, LOL.

Morning all. Have been up for ages. Did some stuff here and then went to DM and did some chores for her. Getting ready to head to the shower, then off for lunch with friends. Sarv, do you eat the deer meat? I will cook anything for DH, but if it doesn' moo, oink, swim or cluck, I won't eat it.LOL. You all just chat away, I will check in when I get back from lunch. Weather here is just gorgeous. Hope to get some gardening chores done this afternoon. Good day to each and every one.

Congratulations Mary, Way to GO! Now what will you do all winter.

Maria so glad you are feeling better and laughing with us again.

Ernie, welcome. I am more a lurker that anything but I try real hard to keep up with everyone. I hope you don't mind I just made your flowers my wallpaper, so pretty and bright.

Sarv enjoy your book dh is taking me out for lunch! Of course I told him I wasn't cooking. lol

Beautiful day here have been out working since 9 a.m. Got my Christmas present early a new lawn mower with a bagger. Can't believe how little that bag holds but I am using the leaves and clippings in my lasagna bed so it is working out great.

Have a great day all I missed, you are the best.

Yippee! Congratulations, Mary!!

Hey, I "nominated" our whole crew for the Gasbag award. (Dave's Garden Members' Choice Awards) http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/553875/

I awakened this morning with some apprehension about pulling even a small trailer with my small pick-up truck all the way to Florida with about half the trip being on the iinterstates. Last time I went, I got off the interstate and took back roads because the big trucks were blowing me off the road and I wasn't pulling a trailer!

Doesn't seem to be and "proud flesh" around the cut on my foot, so I think it won't get infected.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning GOBlins (for the last time, lol)

I finally have a diagnosis on what I thought was Sciatica and tailbone pain. MRI last week was nice and clear and the docs got a good look at my fanny. I copied this info from a website:

Ischiogluteal bursitis causes inflammation of the ischial bursa, which lies between the bottom of the pelvic bone and the overlying gluteus maximus muscle (one side of the buttocks). Inflammation can come from sitting for a long time on a hard surface or from bicycling.

The pain occurs when sitting and walking.
There will be tenderness over the pubic bone, which may be made worse by bending and extending the leg.
The pain may radiate down the back of the thigh.
Direct pressure over the area causes sharp pain.
The person may hold the painful buttock elevated when sitting.
The pain is worse when person is lying down and the hip is passively bent.
The person may have difficulty standing on tiptoe on the affected side.

I have nasty Sciatica anyway (L5/S1) injury, and Tramadol has helped in the past, but this pain has been so bad I've been eating Darvocet like jelly beans. You know it has to be really bad if it has been keeping me from DG!!! So I'm on a new anti-inflammitory, and we will see how bad this one tears up my tummy. The docs are still debating over steriod injections, that can make my fibro flare, but if they do an injection they would attempt to drain off some of the inflamed bursa fluid.

I have 4 days worth of Meperidine, which is a pill form of Demerol. I'm a Really Really Happy Camper! My butt still hurts, but I don't care, rofl!

So I can literally say my excercise bike is a pain in the butt! Heh heh heh, now I have a medical reason to stay off the thing.

I'll catch up with you all when I'm not loopy.

mg

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Congratulations Mary. That is so awesome and by a landslide too.

I am really going to like being in the same time zone as some of you. By the time I wake up and get going you all have done so much that after reading about it I feel I need a nap.

Maria, becareful with those Ambien. I took one and forgot, ended up sleeping in the kitchen chair for a few hours with a stiff back and neck to remind me for a couple days. DH said he didn't wake me cause he knew I needed the sleep and didn't think I looked to uncomfortable.
Thats okay, I knew he needed more iron in his diet so made liver and onions for dinner the next night. Gosh he hates even the smell of it cooking in the house.

Gosh I have so much reading to finish up on. I seem to start the book, forget where I put it, pick up a new one and start reading it and the vicious circle begins. I have gotten better by starting to write down the books I have started so at least I know not to buy it a second time. Yes, I have done that a couple times.

Joy congrats on the early christmas present. I love getting power tools and gardening tools for presents. I have already put in my request for a lawn torch for christmas. It will be handy around here but it will really be a blessing when we move.

Talked to the attorney in SC earlier. In order for us to proceed now, the septic container has to be inspected. It is only 2 years old and still under the warranty from the company that placed it. They wanted me to pay 500.00 for a company (one he recommends highly) to inspect it, when in the warranty papers that he has a copy of it states that the company will provide an annual inspection free of charge for the first five years. And I had already spoke with the owner of that company and he informed me that he would be more the happy to come out and check it and give me a letter that shows its in good operating condition. I really wonder if this attorney honestly thinks that I am dense or if he tries this with everyone.

I better get off this thread, check on a couple others and get my chores started.

Casey

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I know just what you are saying about sceptic system, Casey, when we sold our farm which had a perfectly super sceptic system, the town made us put in a new one at a clip of $20,000,00. of course the feller who designes them is on the board of one of our political groups, no matter how new the house is that may be for sale, one has to install a new sceptic system.

Yes, I shall be very carefull from now on when taking Ambien, did not know what hit me was fighting not to faint.
Maria

Hi, Everyone!

I haven't been on DG much the past three days, so I'm way behind on this thread and don't have time to catch up. I'll just have to start here and try to figure out what I missed.

Hope you all had a good weekend. The weather has been beautiful here and we really got a bunch done in the yard.

Jody

Starkville, MS

jody - we missed ya!

DH installed a sepic system when he built the cabin here almost 20 years ago. It consisted of two 55gal drums hooked together with pvc pipe. Worked great til a couple of years ago (drums finally got full and started falling apart). We decided it was time to install a "real" septic system. He mentioned calling in someone to do it, but I nixed that due to permits/inspection wars. We live so far out in the boonies that we can do pretty much what we want, and ended up renting a backhoe, buying just the 500 gal tank (one place wouldn't even sell the tank without permits) and putting the whole system in ourselves, and it works fine. One company he had called had talked "adinfinum" about permits for this, that and 7 other things and was rapidly approaching a total that equalled the national debt. I just love being way out here, out of "Big Brother's" view!!! We are pretty much free of the political influence here, and hope to stay that way for a long time to come. I *hate* asking permission to make changes on my own property. I realize that if I lived in town I would prefer that my neighbor not put in something really ugly next to my bedroom window, but I feel that too often the officials take advantage of the property owners and rake in the $$$.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Well I understand that all the parties involved including me what to make sure that everything is up to par before we sign the final papers. I just get so upset that he talks to me as though I am a 10 year old child. Unfortunately I have the choice of three laywers that can handle this sale for me. One is older then my grandmother would have been and doesn't use computer technology. With 1500 mile separating us I want to be able to have a second form of being able to contact him. The other, well the confederate flag pin on his lapel kind of concerned me. So I am basically stuck with the male ego.

The gentleman from the company that dug and placed the septic tank called and said everything is fine, and they required him to take a photo of the area showing the fork of the leach lines. Even he said that they are trying to pull a fast one. He had already submitted all the required paperwork that they needed and were a little upset that he and I had made an arrangement outside of their control. Oh well.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Casey... that kind of thing is far too prevalent!

tgif, I have lived in the boonies like that, and once even had the "footers" inspected over the telephone, LOL.

Sigh... I went to see the U-Haul folks today. Seems the only trailer my truck is rated to pull has just 2 wheels so it's not very stable, and is rated 45 mph max. The trailers with tandem wheels are too heavy for my truck to pull, esp. in the mountains.

So, it means an extra 1200 mile round trip. More toll on me doing all that driving but safer. This trip I will take all the plants I have brought inside (eipes, christmas cactus, brugs, black magic elephant ears, jade and my wonderful rabbit's foot fern). I plan to put the larger plants in draw-string glad bags so I can lay them down and not lose all the soil. I just hope there's room for me!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

glad you had the truck checked out, Darius, just think what problems you may have encountered some where on the highway
