Oh Maria I knew what you had in mind just thought since I too crawl into bed alone since DH at work (does'nt get home til way past the tinme I go to bed) That a warm fuzzy body would at least keep the chill off. LOL
But we can work on the other option too!
Anne

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Morning, Anne, I wish I had that other option but he is not around any more but there are super memories that still keep me warm.
Maria

Those DHs sure keep life interesting Dcat, mine's always banging himself up one way or another. Keep a good supply of ace bandages and bandaids on hand.

I'll have one of those biscuits if I can put some butter and honey on it. I'll need some energy, DS and DIL are doing the last cleanup at the old house today so I'm going to give them a hand, and also return the "extra" I use when they are away and I'm the pet sitter. She's pretty overwhelmed at the moment. DS is not an experienced mover and unlike those of us who have relocated dozens of times, wasn't as well organized as she hoped. They will survive....LOL

Nice and sunny, going out shortly to see what needs to be cleaned up, moved, planted (bulbs) or put away in the basement. Clay pots don't do well here in the winter even emptied and upsidedowned, so we put them inside.

Maria, a nice laidback kitty would be good company for you...unless you don't like cats. We always have at least three in our bed, whether we want them or not. Personally, I find a purr a good sleep inducer!

Off to be industrious....have a lovely day

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Maria, Anne is right. You have all of us here. And you also have yourself. VERY important to look after yourself. And we will keep bugging you if you don't. ;-) I was also thinking that you need a pet. I know it's not the two-legged variety you were thinking of but an animal that NEEDS you to look after them and shows unconditional love can be very therapeutic.

You wondered if eveyone was sleeping in. Not here. The new fridge came early - about 15 minutes after the store finally told me it woudl be a morning delivery. (They were supposed to call yesterday with a time but did not.) Another person arrived about the same time with the stones for the retaining wall around my new garden which is also being done today. And the next door neighbours have a roofer in; so the street was really busy.

I was frantically trying to unload the old fridge so that it could be moved. It's temporarily in the garage until I find someone who needs one. Then it took us about 20 minutes to pull all the packing tape off the new fridge. Gotta go get it plugged in as the timer is beeping. It's been sitting the required hour to settle the refrigerants.

Then I've got to go into work for awhile and catch up with things that didn't get done yesterday. Too many visitors.

defoecat, congrats to DS. Go and enjoy that meal.

On getting dressed, I'm usually out early, but those mornings when I don't have to be, I sometimes don't get dressed till noon.

Have a good day everyone. It's lovely here - bright and sunny. Everyone will be frantically trying to finish off yard work.

Unfortunately I am allergic to cats, Sheila. my eyes are allergic to most everything. I think I have mentioned it before that I have macular degeneration since 1970, cannot see in one eye and the other one is not that good either. Have to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days to drive, and once in a while the better one blacks out for a second, very scary that is why I do not like to drive much, especially at night . Just hope I shall be seeing for some time to come, also have very dry eyes, always tearing regardless of the medicine I take for it. Right now all the vertical lines I am looking at are wavy and crooked and to think I must get my medicine at the drug store.

Good Morning GOB's, GOBlets, GOBlins...and what ever catagory you feel most comfortable in this fine autumn morning. And, for I can tell from sitting in my chair, it going to be another nice one here.

Ginni...I just *had* to tell that I don't have to go look at your canoe pictures (tho temptation will probably lead me in that direction as soon as I'm finished here) your description the craft literally put me mind right there with you for that whole day. During our many years of marriage, DH and I have bought several canoes, and even built two. My favorite is/was the cedar strip canoe...that's the one that

Quoting:
...glides on the water like silk slipping through your fingers. So smooth you hardly feel it moving.
in my memories. (I even made the woven wicker seats by hand for that one.) If a person has never had the experience of a beautiful canoe, they really can't appreciate what you told us. I keep thinking about the BIG difference between those metal canoes of my childhood camping times and have to LOL. Those hand made wooden canoes, whether birch bark or cedar strip are really special.

Oh, the canoe stories that are fillin gmy head right now...geez! You had to get me started 'thinking' didn't you. LOL

And what is it with the 'family pictures'? That's where I had my head stuck yesterday as well. Between memories of my family, then having MY Friday night T.V session (Ghost Whisperer and Three Wishes) I found out that I still had the ability to produce tears that well up from Lord only knows where. It was a GOOD day.

Darius...thanks for the news on Molly...I remember reading what you told us before. (I'm losing my marbles...forgot she was on her way to the closing.)

Maria...~a little sad smile here~ ((((~ big hugs here~)))) (I've tried to write some of my feelings into words here...but they just don't look right. SO I deleted them....several times. :-))

To everyone else, I'm sorry I'm not responding individually. But it's one of those days when I'd better take care not to let #1 (me) sink into a black hole I can't get back out of.

LOVE to you all...and I'll be back later. I'm going to go find something to "play" with to lift my spirits a bit. (OH! wait...not before I tell you that this one is of my own making...NOTHING to do with anyone here. OK?)

Well, good morning to you all, and to some that it is now afternoon, Good Afternoon. Wow, I slept great.
Maria, I wish I could say or do something that would cause your emptyness to go away but don't know what so I will just say, know that we all care, and are here if you need us.

It is beautiful outside right now and will be quite warm today by noon. high 80's. I am going to get dressed and check out the garden center at HD when I pick up some other things I am needing, never know what might call out to me.

EVERYONE: Have a spectacular day filled with sunshine and smiles

Casey

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

JUst came home, would you believe they gave me only one medicine, why could they not have put both in one bag? Now I have to drive back into the city, yuk
Don't worrry about me I am ok, just thinking out loud at least I feel much better today , hardly coughed since I got up but still verey tired
Maria

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, everyone seems to be enjoying the sunshine today. It is nice here supposed to hit the high 60's. We did have frost last night, but nothings seems the worse for it. I have a few more tulip bulbs to put in, so will try to get that done before we take off for the meal with DS. I ran some errands this morning, and have cooked some things for tomorrow's dinner. When I go to church, do not like to come home to completely prepare a meal. Stopped at several yard sales today, didn't find a thing I couldn't live without.

Maria, sure sounds like you are feeling better, with the exception of having to go back to get the other medicine. Maria, please know that you are special to all of us here at DG. If I were closer to you, I would enjoy having coffee on your deck, listening to music, and going places, but alas, distance makes that impossible.

Sarv, yesterday was good, it was the late afternoon that turned disasterous!! Those interludes can really mess up the day.

Well DH just came in, and it's time to start getting ready to go, so will catch you later tonight.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Bakck again from second trip to city, tired, the worst thing was sciatica shot pain down my leg, in the drugstore it gave out and fell on my knee, shish, was I ever embarassed, but was almost at once ok lol

Hate to waste gasoline like that, not just the money I am very 'earth' conscous why fill up earth space with more fumes than necessary.

Gosh, Maria! Hard to prevent that... and yes it does embarrass us when we fall. Luckily for you, it wasn't a hip breaking.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Casey, I know what you mean about the snow in New England, it snowing right now but melting as it hits the still warm earth.
I used to love the snow it meant skiing. I was the first skier in the family, my husband could not stand this LOL, so he bought a beautiful 1835 farmhouse in New Hampshire, ten rooms and with barn and other out buildings attached as it is done up there. Being very athletic he out skid me in no time and so did my children they are today super skiers except for my oldest daughter she liked it as a child but not any more, the others are still at it, my other daughter does not just go up a mountain but traverses them from one peak to an other for hours, You can see why I was left behind, I was too careful thought I could not afford to break a leg.
Maria

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Gee, not that many posts for a change! Everybody must be off doing Halloweeny things (or something).

Maria, hope you start feeling better mentally as well as physically soon. Since you mentioned the snow, there's one thing I envy you for ---- the next ice storm when you can sit in your warm kitchen and look out on a world of crystal. It looks so gorgeous when the sun shines on the ice on the trees and bushes, but it's so treacherous when you have to get out on the roads and head for work! I sure hope your eyesight is still good enough for you to enjoy the beauty of a New England winter.

Had to interrupt my typing just now to find out why I kept hearing a snarling cat. I found Miss Miceus trying to prevent Slim (our most recent feline family member) from exiting the cellar into the kitchen. I don't think that those two will ever be friends.

Dcat. I hope your husband's hand is getting better, but I bet it's swollen and even more difficult by now. I've always been somewhat afraid of dogs and a story like that makes me shudder!

julie, I hope you thought of more pleasant things to avert that black hole. It's awfully easy to slide in, isn't it? When the subject of SAD came up, my first thought was, "I'm glad that doesn't affect me" and my second was "how would I know? I'm always depressed anyway!"

tgif -- your day sounded lovely. The birchbark canoe really caught my attention.

Everyone else, cheers to you all. I don't mean to leave anyone out, but it's time for supper (DH created a rather spicey vegetable soup and we picked up a fresh loaf of Italian bread on the way home.) Goodnight and sleep tight.

Hi All,
Just checking in.
My father's computer died the other day.
I was going thru withdrawls!!!
I am so depended on computers for my communication tool due to my hearing, so I was going crazy.
After spending the day at the rehab center with my dad, I had been coming home to checking the e-mails and getting on the AOL IM to talk to my college son, but it was a shock when the dang computer wouldn't turn on. No power, No nothing.
So dad told me to take it to the computer shop and did that. So am waiting for it to be fixed.
Am going home tomorrow. Coming back next weekend to for when dad comes home to help him and mom out. He is doing very good. Is up and walking a bit with the walker. Left leg and arm are still very weak tho and the brain and muscle still aren't totally connecting.
Feel so out of it from all of it here and my home. Need to get back to my 18 year old son, etc. Wonder what my dahlias look like now?
Oh well, another year to garden.

Maria, I love your collagues! You did a good job on them and love the old time pictures.
Everyone else, I did read but way too many to respond too, but all of you seem to be doing good.
Later, Carol (DR)

Mc Cool, was wondering myself where every body is!

You are right about the snow but I gladly can do with out it at this point of my life, especially when it is icy, yuk! you know how it is, want to take a right and the car goes to the left, LOL, kind of scary.. Hopefully my eyesight will last a long time to come without total failure.

Carol, happy to hear your Dad is doing better, I am certain he will get his strenghs back. I know what you mean being without computer, I am so used to it now, cannot imagine life without it, especially since can not read Books any more but perhaps a couple of paragraphs before everything starts to get very fuzzy.
Till later

I think except for some minor things I am done with the gardens until spring. I planted a few more mums where I had a couple of bare holes from some annuals and dead headed everything.
Now to get the house in order for fall, with switching winter and summer clothes and the same for the bedding.
DH went out and me a lamp that has a 10,000 lux output. I talked with my doctor and he suggested to try and be around the light for about an hour a day, I can do more but to try that as a minimum, then if it works and I can tell the difference I can start to try and adjust the time if I feel as thought I need it, or don't need it.

Daisyruffles, I am so glad that Dad is doing so well they have given him a date to come home. It will be hard for him and mom to adjust at first, but I am sure with your help they are going to do just fine. Just so you know, I am not hearing impaired and I am to very dependent on my computer for communication. I have several friends that live in other states and a few in other countries, my phone bill would require me to have a second and third job to pay for them. The computer allows us to talk daily and stay involved in each others lives.

DH made BBQ'd chicken, baked potatoes, and grilled asparagas for dinner and there is plenty left if anyone is hungry. The pear pie will be done in about 5 minutes but will need to cool for a few. Whipped cream in the door of the frig.

DR - Glad you DF is doing better. Also glad you are getting a chance to return home.

Like others - mostly just reading. Just in from playing the first edition of the Autumn in Vienna concert - at the other end of the city - about 35 km each way. Tomorrow's concert is just down the road about 9 km.

I like calorie free pie (Oh dear - a typo almost made pie into the word that goes with that statue in Brussels. Don't want to start getting warnings again.) LOL

We get day-old Danishes and donuts at the food cupboard. You know, if you cut them up small enough, all the calories run out.

Gotta go try to make order of the inside of my new fridge and then get to bed.

Hello all,

Oh my, so many new threads and postings. I'm so sorry I haven't enough fuel in the generator to catch up properly.

We did not go to the property yesterday. The dealer forgot she had to get a special permit to move a 16 ft wide trailer. Oh well, maybe next week. But the other permits should have been ready yesterday so that should help move things along.

My db and sil brought their generator to me along with 17 gallons of fuel, 3 coolers of ice, beer and food. We had a very nice dinner tonight that Leoncia cooked and cleaned up after and they are sleeping quite nicely on the sofa bed now.

Rumor has it we may get power in 2-4 weeks. Since there are power lines down in my grid we will be some of the last for restoration. I am just very grateful that Wilma brought temps down in the 50's and although it has warmed up some, it is not sweltering and sleeping weather is fair.

Better hit send before the gen. turns off.

I'm upppppp! 3 am or really 2am now that the time has changed!! Can you believe it!!

Hey Molly, good to hear from you in the flesh again. Sounds like things are improving some, but gosh 2-3 more weeks!! Hang in there kid..

I feel the black hole coming to get me. Yesterday was day from hades around here. I was merrily cleaning and my folks show up, they hang around (which means I sit and talk with them) until lunch. Now I have nothing edible in the frig, so I have to whip up something (grilled cheese - no dill pickles even!!) Oh well...While they are still here, my DS, DIL, and DGS come over -they want DH to go with them shopping for new appliances- DGS stays with me (however "I" wanted to go....) Next the other DS and DIL come over pulling their trailer for DH to winterize - they are here all day waiting for DH to show up. I got nothing done, besides getting into the 5 bags of halloween candy and practically devouring it all. First DS/DIL come back and want us over for dinner - now that's ok. But DIL's stupid mother shows up (not how I want to spend an evening) Got home at 10:30pm with a DH that has had too much brew and I ended up screaming and clutching the door driving home (I cannot drive his old clunker, but should have walked!!) Ended up with a major headache. Plus today I was supposed to take two ice cream pies for our gala and we didn't stop and get the ice cream - so there is no way they will be ready. Now what do I do.

Oh, there's more...my sis called (the do nothing one) and asked if I could make something for her and bring it along (they are driving up 5 hrs to this shindig for our folks - going away party) Now I don't mind doing it, but this happens all the time and she never anties up the $$ for what I bring. Oh well, my problem I guess.

And there's more, but this is going on toooo long.....no wonder I have a headache!!

Maria, my hair was falling out too - it is so thin I can see my scalp - my beautician told me to use something called "nioxin" It is a shampoo and another bottle of rinse stuff = smells like menthol stuff. She said she would guarantee that I have new hair growth. I've used it for over a month - jury is still out tho. (you have to buy this at a beauty supply place) Hey Maria= I crawl into bed alone everynight- I love it!! I have my radio right by my pillow along with the tv remote...book on the bedstand.- light can go on whenever "I" want it to. DH snores LOUD and we've had enough fights about it, so I finally just moved to another bedroom - been there for over 5 years. Saved this marriage I think. He however whines about me sleeping with him, but unless it is on my terms (HE moves when the snoring starts), it's NO deal. If I want to get warm I just put on more sweats and turn on the heating pad.. LOL

Well, I think I will munch on a baking powder bisquit I made yesterday and read a couple of chapters- then try to snooze a bit more before really getting up!!

Who ate ALL the pie??? pigs....

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

sarv, well I am up too.....except mine is still.....I have been in the bed twice and just tossed and turned and my mind just won't turn off. You would think with all this brain activity I would be able to find a cure for cancer or solve world peace.......My cocker is snoring so loud that she is overpowering the radio I have on out here in the livingroom. DH doesn't snore much anymore since he had his teeth pulled and has dentures. Only when he has a severe cold.
Thank goodness....Drove me nuts...
I bought a book a few weeks ago at a yard sale, and just started reading it "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" by Carla Emery. It has a lot of information in it, some outdated but still good to know for reference. I read a bit from it tonight for the first time and I sure have a lot to learn before I move if I don't want to be in tears within the first year.
Sorry you didn't get a piece of the pie. It went really fast. I was going to make two but I couldn't find enough pears that were nice enough. Not worth wasting my time if I don't like the pears.
I also bought the cream to make cinnamon ice cream this weekend. I will make sure I save a little on the side just for you.

Well I am going to check out a few other threads,
Casey

Up again!! This time for good! Eating some baking powder biscuits from yesterday - I like them leftover better than fresh!! yum

I need to get dressed and go to the store and get some flour! How could I have run out of that!! Then get my patootie busy and make a load of cream puffs for the gala today.

DS (who I bragging about last week...) called his grandma and asked if it was ok if they NOT come today - he got tickets for the Lions football. He knew enough NOT to call me as I would have said a loud NOOOOO> But his grandma has a sweet side and told him to 'go - you are young only once!' So he and his wife are going and we will be taking DGS with us. He did tell her that he would take them out to dinner sometime before they leave to Fla. Not gonna get myself in a snit about it, but he will missing seeing everyone from out of town. Oh well, his loss.

I dug up my tall dahlias and laid them on the ground Fri night and we had a hard frost that night. I was so mad at that stupid no nothing weather man!! I checked on them in the afternoon and the foliage was all black, but the tubers seemed ok. Will they all rot when I store them? drat........I could just spit.

Well, off to get my day started!! Pear pie ?? never had that before!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

What a sweet Grandmother he has, but you know what, Sarv, I would have said the same thing!! And I bet you will too some day to your grandchildren, because you will love them without end whether you see them or not.
Somebody's rooster woke me this morning, he did not care about what time it was, lol .
Just an hour north from here there was lots of snow freezing the lines, and snapping them, thousands are out of power and on the road tons of fender benders. sheesh, glad it did not happen here, but it will one of these days, just lucky this time.
Come on guys speak your mind, you did get that extra hour. :-))
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I meant to get going, but got waylaid in other forums! Yikes Maria - snow, ice, snapping lines. Yuck, I surely can wait for those days. Both my kids/spouses drive miles to get to work and I worry about them on the road. I would love to ask them to check in via the computer, but I can just see the eye rolling at that request.

Sun is coming up - some clouds, but a pink sunrise. Cat is at the door wanting her breakfast - must be the hunting was nonproductive this morning.

Molly great to see you!
Maria i did get the extra hour sort of-- son got up then puppy now they are all back in bed with DH and I am up checking threads LOL
Anne

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I hope everyone got some sleep last night. I woke up at 4:, or was it 5? or 3? helpppp.... LOL I hate the time change, my internal clock gets all messed up. Good to hear from Molly, and that there is some progress, albeit not on the schedule planned. Does anything like that ever go smoothly?

Snow already, Maria? We had another heavy frost, after an evening of doorbell ringing by the neighborhood kids. They have a structured Trick or Treat, 7 to 9, and you are requested to leave your porch light on if you are participating. Ours was off! Last year I handed out five big bags of miniature candy bars, up and down dozens of times, DH just sits in the den and doesn't get up, so this year I said to heck with it. Neither the grownups or the kids say hello, even when they are walking by, so I wasn't feeling like being neighborly. Some of the kids are so big, they probably drive around in their own cars....!

Sarv, you are a push over. I would have told your sister she'd better stop on the way and pick something up because you have your hands full. That's really rude to expect you to provide her contribution, and she's done it before, so you need to be prepared to say "no". Your dahlia tubers should be ok, just let them get dry in the sun today, cut off the frosted leaves, and then store them. Unless it was below freezing for hours, they will survive. (If they don't you can yell at me next spring. )

DR, that's great progress for your DF, and you have my heartfelt sympathy about the separation anxiety with the computer crash! I would be parking at an internet cafe if mine and DH's went at the same time! I'm absolutely addicted....and not willing to go into rehab!

Hmm DH just offered breakfast out and since I wasn't planning on making any, I better hit the shower and put some clothes on. I'll check in later to see what's up....enjoy the sunshine if you have any, and the furnace if you dont.

(Zone 8b)

Hi Gobs and all,
I see you have gone through another two threads since I was here!!
Just got back home from helping out with a domestic crisis. DIL's grandmother died in the middle of the week, she didn't live in the USA, and naturally DIL needed to dash of to be with her family for support etc. DS was at the other end of the country on business, don't these things always happen at the worst moments!. Naturally DH and I went off to take on the two grand babies untill the folks could get back to routine.
We have baby sat for several days before, but its always been planned ahead and the kids know whats happening and are looking forward to the excitment. This time was different, DIL was very upset, she was raised by her gran so they were very close, and had obviously done a lot of weeping when we got there. DGS was worried about his Mama, and the baby was still asleep when she left. Not easy to explain what is going on to a two year old. Still we all survived, DS is back home now and DIL should be home this morning, so we left them getting excited about Mama coming home and came back home ourselves, totally exhausted.
I now have so much to catch up on here its going to take all week!! Glad to see Maria is feeling better. A small dog would give you a companion Maria, and a reason to get dressed and go for walks too. A small poodle wouldn't shed hair which would prevent allergy problems. It would also give you a sense of security. A dog best intruder deterrent in the world, if it barks of course Bal!!
Sarv you need some time out for you, and only you. Getting overtired doesn't help you see where the edges of that hole are so you can walk round it. If you are having hair loss problems, feeling low and have tiredness and weight problems at the same time, have you had your Thyroid balance checked lately? That sounds like all the symptoms I had when mine decided not to function properly. Sorting it out was a great help, made me feel I could cope with stuff again. Didn't make me lose any weight though it did stop me getting fatter and fatter!!
Must dash got to do tons off stuff that just got abandoned when we dashed off.
Carch y'all later.
Carol
