Thanks, Julie, where has the time gone?????
Maria

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Maria...I was asking myself that same question as I was browsing through my old photos. Man! What feelings and emotions came back doing that. I guess that's why it's called "Memory Lane", eh?

~julie~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Ok, back - company just left and I came in from planting my newest 4 daylilies. Man was the root ball ever a mess! I practically had to chisel the roots apart. Daylilies are such tough things, they will be fine next year.

I had DH dig up a russian sage that had overtaken part of my garden - it was tree/bush like. He about broke the handle getting it out!! Looks so much better without it! I gave it a heave ho in the brush pile.

Bal, I elevated my head not the foot of the bed. When I reread my post I noticed the mistake!

It is gloriously sunny here today and in the 60's - our Indian Summer has arrived (hard frost this morning) I went out and just sat in the sun for an hour - felt wonderful.

DH and I dug 5 brugs two nights ago and one huge one is in beautiful bloom in the BARN!!! It looks so funny.

Well, DH is sipping a brew and I am going to help him finish it...see ya later!!

ps Darius-you must be a rich old broad to have a 'yard man' LOL LOL I hope it's not like Desperate Housewives and their yardman....(if ya know what I mean!!)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Sarv! I never THOUGHT of that! (Hmmmmm wonder what Darius is going to have to say. LOL)

~julie~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Darius is going to say: Don't know "Desperate Housewives" but I get the innuendo! LOL, I'm waaaaay past that stage!

Bob dug up and potted about 50-75 plants this afternoon and will come back Sunday afternoon to do the remainder. I don't think I will be able to get all of them in my pickup (with the smaller houseplants in 2 layers) plus the 5x8 U-Haul trailer I will rent next week. I may have to make 2 trips to FL with just plants! (Cannot haul a bigger trailer with my little engine, uncertain about even one this size until I get down to flat land!)

Sarv, He's just a paid helper I use twice a year for heavy work. I manage to con someone once a month or so to cut my small plot of grass and I do the weed-eating.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

hehehe ....I thought so! (Darius! You have a LOT of stuff in that yard if it's going to take TWO trips loaded to the gills! Glad it's not me who's moving...you know those BIG Mayflower moving vans? I'd need TWO!)

~julie~

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius, I think that since he is in the yard and he is a man and you are paying him he qualifies as a yard man. Do what you will with him.................LOL

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, he's too old and has fewer teeth than I do!

(But, he worked for the Extension Service for many years and is very plant-knowledgeable!)

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thank you, Casey, for your compliments on the last thread
Maria

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi all!

I'm just going to give you a heads up now, I prolly won't be around much in the next couple of days. Lots of Halloween activities and my tailbone is hurting again.

So I'll see ya when I see ya.

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Take Care, mg...

No "Trick or Treaters" come here... too far out in the country.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Gayle!!! How will the UMW get along without you???
;-)

Nevermind....when you get that 'invention' on the market...you will be able to afford all the GEL you want to sit on...and your "uh huh" won't hurt. LOL

(Feel better fast! And DON'T scare the kids!!!)

~julie~

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Maria, great collages.

M5 - I thought I had a disfunctional family. Your story of BIL's beats all.

Halloween - I guess it doesn't happen at my house. I haven't yet decided whether I go to the Food Cupboard which is open - a lot of volunteers have booked off - or out to my daughter's to watch grand-twins with their costumes and maybe answer the door at their house.

New fridge comes tomorrow. Haven't found a taker for the old one which isn't all that old as fridges go. Also tomorrow, they are supposed to build the retaining wall around my new garden. Supposed to be nice weather for a change.

Ann

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ann, thanks, but please don't forget to tell me about the concert"Vienna in Autumn"

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Maria, thanks for sharing the collages, the family pics are beautiful and I love the fall colors on the other one. Got a houseful so gotta go.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Hi Sheila...Bye Sheila!!

Darius, have you heard amy news from Molly?
~julie~

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

lol, Julie
Thanksm, Sheila, it was fun learning how to do it
Maria

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Julie, no news from Molly, but I didn't expect to hear from her until maybe Sunday night. I think she was going to Gainesville today to close on the mobile home, and get the ball rolling for septic and well. That is, if she could get gas. She did say she thought she had enough gas to get to south of Orlando, and there's gas and power there.

I'd bet she took up a load of plants, too!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

as usual lots going on here and took me so long to catch up no time to respond to all. Have to get the kid to bed!

But Darius will send Halloween your way get lots here and do lots as well!!! It is a big deal in this house as are ALL holidays!
Everyone have a good night I will pop in if I can.
Mags

DH is watching pukey big time wrestling - I hate it!! I'm bored...where are my cyber friends??

I've already done 3 sudoku puzzles and my eyes are going round and round.
Read enough chapters in my book - no more of that.
Nothing to eat on the counter

Might as well go to bed and watch tv from there....I hate nights like this.

waaaaaaaa

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Gee, I thought you'd all stopped talking. (Fat chance)! I just forgot to set the computer to watch the new thread.

Maria, I'll let you know how the concerts go.

DH is back from Newfoundland for a couple of days. Sunday evening he's off to Edmonton and then Inuvik. Like I said, he travels all the time.

Gotta get off the computer and let him have it.

Good night all.

Ann

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi sarv(and everyone else)

Thank heavens for a DH who hates sports (any and all) even more than I do! I hope you can at least find something almost worth watching on TV, sarv. I think that's getting harder every day too. Speaking of that, I'm supposed to be heading upstairs just about now to watch an episode of "My Family" (BBC) on TV. DH and I both like that, but I'm usually busy doing something else --- don't get in much TV and can't say that I really miss it much.

I'll try to check in again later.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL, Sarv, poor you, can't imagine anyone watching wrestling, of course there is a big difference between legit and not legit which I think that is what your DH is watching, :-)))
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

hey sarv I am here if you wanna chat!

Starkville, MS

I had a wonderful day!! My Mom and my 2 brothers came in about 9:45 this morning and we spent the morning going through a lot of old family pictures and all kinds of letters, and newspaper articles. Then lunch of chile and cheese and crackers, with ice cream and cookies for desert. Then down to the lake to paddle around in brother's birchbark canoe. Then back up to the house to see his pictures of his trip to Spokane - lots of breathing scenery - and a day by day run of pictures of the building of said canoe. He had dreamed of building one for 30 years or more and finally got it done. It glides on the water like silk slipping through your fingers. So smooth you hardly feel it moving. The weather could not have been more perfect. Blue sky, light touch of breeze, in the low 70s, and the lake was crystal clear so we could watch the fish and turtles. Other brother had to leave about mid afternoon, but the rest of us kept looking at pics and reliving all the fun times our family has had over the years. Then for supper it was omelet, bacon, ham and bisciuts, with jams and jellies made by us or friends. All in all, a perfect day for me. I will not need to be rocked to sleep tonight!

I'll post pics of the canoe on another thread tomorrow. She is a beauty - named Nokomis.

If I don't get back here tonight - sleep well all, and sweet dreams.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Ginni sounds just wonderful Good for you happy days to everyone i say!!!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Ginni, is it not so very nice to have a family day and everything perfect that goes with it? Nothing like it!

I getup fairly early in the morning, still dark, you think I get dressed? NO NO, feeling rotten why bother but I finally do after lunch sometime, however right after supper , I get undressed again, is this not silly, I am dressed for only for 5 hours and in my gown and robe got 19 hours LOL LOL If my husband could see me now, he'd shake his head and say, what is the matter with you, woman, just shows you cannot handle things when I am not there, not even getting dressed!! how right he is.
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Maria i feel the same have all good intentions of getting showered and dressed right after I get my son on the bus and NOPE! Sometimes it takes awhile to settle into the day. Sometimes we settle in and no need to change since we have settled into the night!
It is just FINE-------

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

How right you are, Anne, at least you have some one to take care off, here it is just me, I remember when I thought every so often ,oh if I had only a minute for myself, did not appreciate how lucky I was now that I am all alone
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

well Maria
you are not alone you have me and all the rest of us here to deal with on a daily basis!! And that is a HANDFUL!! LOL
I am surely thinking of you right now and they are wonderful warm cozy thoughts!!! Just knowing you are there whenever I might need someone to talk to

I got a few pics of the canoe and stuff on over in photos under birchbark canoe. One of the pics is of a nice surprise I got today. Its a little flower that grows wild around here, but it has gotten so late, I was afraid it wasn't going to bloom this year. Then, today, there they were! I'm so pleased to see them. Maria, I wish you could come visit me on days like today. There is no way you could have stayed inside here. The sun and the birds would have insisted that you come out and play.

night again!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Anne, youi are very sweet and I thank you, I know I have many friends on this thread, I am so glad to have found it with much appreciation, but I must tell you the nothing in this world is better then having a warm body next to you!
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

wish I could send this one off to you now to help with that need of a warm body! I Know what you mean but thought if she was laying next to you it may help!

Well, again I was gone all day, and a new forum. Got the last one read, and will not try to comment on each one. Except to say, Maria, I loved your collages. The fall colors were great. And to Carat and others who have asked about SAD, 3 years ago I was fortunate to have a Dr. who was very up on this issue. Seems like maladys or diseases are the "in" thing at certain times. Since we had tried antidepressants alone, and wasn't very successful, he suggested trying the light therapy. It was expensive for the unit, I think about $400.00. Now insurance will help pay for it, but at that time, they poo pooed it. It is not a sun lamp, it is a high intensity short spectrum light, no ultra violet. You can google it by typing in SAD, and there will be places where you can purchase it. I think they are in the $200 range now. It does indeed help, but if you are in a climate with some sun during the winter, I always try to get out in the sun, if it is not too cold, then use the lighting also. It is something that you can place by a chair or on your desk, and still carry on with normal activities. It is not like having to stop everything, just to sit under this light.

Well, today, went to chiropractor, and then to Walmart, Grocery, and the library was having their annual book sale, so stopped in there, bought some cook books, some plant books, and reference books. May go back tomorrow with DGD and see if she wants anything. Stopped at 2yard sales, but didn't but anything. Then home to tote in all the "goods" rested awhile and then made spaghetti for dinner.

We had frost last night, enough to scrape off the car windows this morning. It did not kill anything, so still have a few days to get in the rest of the plants I want to save.

Tonight, DH took 3 beagles out to run, as hunting season is only 2 weeks away. He will start working with them daily, in order for them to get in shape. When he came in, and was putting the dogs back into the pen, our female Rat terrier, and a female beagle, who have a jealousy thing going on, got into a tussle. DH separated them, and thought they were okay. He reached down to close the bottom latch on the gate, and the Rat terrier, thinking he was petting the female beagle, reached to bite her again, and got DH's hand. He came in and yelled for me, when I went to see what he wanted, there was blood everywhere in the laundry room. I immediately, put his hand in the sink and ran water over it so I could see how bad it was. The worst place is on the middle finger, she tore a chunk of flesh loose (really deep) right above the nail, and the bottom teeth, caught the underside of the finger. Since I am an EMT, I recommended that he go to the emergency room, but nooooo, being a man, it will be alright. I cleaned it, and bandaged it. The dog has had all her shots, and thankfully, DH just recently had a tetnus. So I hope everything heals well. Of course, since he is right handed, it is on his right hand.

Well, I have a very full day tomorrow. Errands to run in the morning, and DS called tonight and wants us to drive about 100 miles to eat in the restaurant where he has recently been hired as a chef. Then Sunday, church, and an open house of a friend. Maybe by Monday, things will slow down, and I can get some work done.

Well good night all, Mr. B and DGD are all snuggled in bed. Oh, Mr. B. had a night time rampage last night, and chewed DH good dress shoes. DH fault for leaving them out.!!

Well off to bed to hopefully sleep the sleep of the angels.

Nokomis was the name of Hiawatha's grandmother in Longfellow's poem, The Song of Hiawatha : Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.

Good name for a handmade canoe!!!

Such a wonderful day you had!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

LOL oh Defoe- what a day!! Bloody hand, chewed shoes - bet you fell into bed and slept like a log!! Don't ya just hate days like that!! Aw shucks, I was hoping that just standing for hours at my humungous lighted plant stand would take care of the SAD stuff. It was sunny here yesterday and I went out and just sat in the sun and breathed deeply - and thought about all the things I was thankful for (Thanksgiving coming up!!)

Hey Maria- I think you need a pet!!! Personally I would get a cat and a dog. Cats are quiet, but loving and dogs always let you know they love you - licking, barking, jumping etc. There's nothing like having someone with big eyes greet you. They never get mad! ( oops other than defoe's hunting dogs) We did have two birds once and they were fun, but certainly weren't snugglers. Had a dog once that got into bed with us, burrowed his way between us every night and finally was satisfied when he was under the covers, sleeping just like a person. He was a treasure.

mgoo, I always try and get dressed unless I am at deaths door. Somehow I always feel better. But sweats are th mode many days and they are just like pj's.

tgif - oh that day with the brothers/mom sounds like fun!! I love getting together with my family - we all get along as long as we aren't together more than a week!! We did a vacation once together and by the end of it, everyone was biting their nails!! And the canoe sounds beautiful. What a nice day for all!

Since I hit the hay so early last night and slept GOOD< I am ready to roll this morning. It is supposed to be a nice day to boot!! I dug up the rest of my dahlia tubers last night along with some cannas and today will get them snuggled in their winter quarters. I'm itching to go to the garden centers, but have blown way toooooo much $$ this month - new saw for DH and TV armoire for myself along with new dishes. I'm on a roll for sure!!

There's not cider on the counter - help yourself - I'm off to make some baking powder biscuits -haven't made those in just ages (because I eat the whole batch - that's why!!)

Sue
