Ann - I like #1 better.
Coffee and...Part 44...! :-D
Oh NO!!! Don't tell me we have another "I'll just take into Photoshop and see what I do with this" person in the GOBs group! hehehehe (I managed to eat nearly a WHOLE pie from Sheila last winter...)
~julie~
Hm no 2 has better composition and looks better in the thumbnail.
BUT No 1 looks better when they are enlarged because there is more detail in the rose petals, and the background is clearer.
No help at all am I!!!
Carol
The English one
I played with #2 a bit and posted it on the Canadian forum.http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/553230/
Glad you all can't really decide either Makes me feel a bit better. LOL
Ann
BTW, not sure what kind of rose it is. I'll see if it still has a marker under it when it stops raining.
Ann #1 to me. But beautiful any way you loook at them.
Julie, hope I'm not ready for link to life. I am never home and they would have to search far and wide for me.
Darius, think of raising 2 kids by the gully. Drove my mom nuts. We all thought it was a great play yard.
DR, (Carol), so thankful and to think he is starting rehab already! Must be some good genes there.
WOW, 28 of us.........think a weekend is long enough!
Yes, where is bal? I will have to go to pets to see more pictures of his babes!
Off to the doctors soon. Nothing like having some one rain down fire and brimstone on you and you pay them to do it. That's what happens with bad genes and liking food way too much.
Have fun this afternoon,
Joy
Where on earth have I been ?? Watching the new pup constantly, digging up overgrown shrubs, building fences, burning the assorted old fencing, trying to clean up the Fall yard, indoor shingling in the sunroom, baking the experimental Harvey Wallbanger cake, and a few more mundane and uninteresting daily chores. Insignificant of and by themselves, as a whole it had me frazzled. A couple days of rain put an end to the outdoor work, the pup has figured out how to use the doggie door and, hopefully, that it is OK to go outside to potty. Have to make a trip into town today to do some business at the Credit Union. That's an 11 mile drive I don't really like, but they don't have a branch here in Marysville. Could join the CU here, but I've been a member for 36 years and like the staff there. Hate commercial banks and won't have anything to do with them The last straw was when they opened our Safe Deposit Box and took everything out. They 'mistook' it for one with a similar number that was behind in payments. A problem with taking over another bank and their SD boxes. After that, and 3 moves and changes of owners we quit. Phooey! enough meaningless griping. It makes me sad to hear of all the problems with aging parents especially knowing I'm one of them. With care maybe I can avoid Alzheimer's and other debilitating problems for another couple decades or more. Gambling! I'd love to gamble in the Indian Casino just a couple miles from here. After all, look at how often James Bond wins!!! It's a beautiful Casino, and has helped the Tribe and local community tremendously, but losing my money there is a given and I'd rather give it to something more worthwhile.
Joy and Meezer, those are really neat looking rooms. Have been hoping for some years that we could redecorate the house, but everything is still in good shape. Maybe after I win the Lottery, but do I REALLY have to buy a ticket ??For goodness sake, the sun has just come out. Maybe it will dry out enough to do some yard clean up.
Sarv, I'd love a piece of that pumpkin pie, it's one of my favorites.
Elaine, (one of my favorite names), your candles are unique.I haven't seen candles made up like that before, nice work.
Bit of excitement here yesterday afternoon. While I was on the back porch watching the dogs play I noticed they would go over to the gate and sniff, then go play. The neighbors house and ours are separated by a 10 foot set-back with a cedar fence down the center. The second time they went to check it out I saw the back of a stout dark haired person climbing in through a back window. Since I knew the owners were gone I called the Sheriff to report a break in. They came by and checked it out, and found it to be the neighbor's grand daughter who had "forgotten" her key. 20 minutes later when DW drove around the corner two blocks away she saw 4 police cars and several Deputies in the road chatting. Paperwork? Well I'm glad they were here, even if it took 4 cars worth. Time to put on shoes and socks and head for town. Everyone have a swell day.
Wow, Robert! Great fence... and I love the colors on the Jap. maple to the right!!
Wow that takes me bac a couple of decades - Harvie wallbanger cake. Yumm!
Ann
WOW Robert, you make me look like a slug.....computer, drv & treadmill, gh, fridge, computer etc etc. Don't have these days often but sure enjoy them. Sun??? What sun, oh the one that is supposed to come out from hiding on Satuday! We can only hope.
Glad your baby is learning the ground rules! Our last pup I spent half the winter outside saying Cody go pee! Wet drizzly winter it was but you couldn't have found a better dog! Was 9 when we lost him and that was 5 years ago. Probably could find some of his hair under or behind something, no one ever told me a collie could shed as much as he did!
Update on Molly in the "Wilma check in" thread.
From Dravencat:
Just talked to MollyMc, shes fine but lost her Mango tree in the back, at least all the branches. no electricity but the house is fine too. Lots of power lines are down and people are outside cutting up trees. One whole pole came down so it'll be a while to get electicity back.
HI Robert...you have a way of making us *all* feel like 'slugs'. LOL
Gayle...thanks for that update on Molly. I was just watching the news with all the pics and I was wondering how she was faring. (Hang in there, Molly! If that wind picks you up and tosses you northward, I'll be here to catch you before you get to Canada. ;-))
~julie~
Good morning/afternoon. VAnn, they are both pretty but I like the second one better. If it was for posting in the plant files I would choose #1 because it is "cleaner", but for a family album the second one looks more casual, more like what a person would see if they were in your garden.
My rose bed is back to plan A. We went to pick up the rescued roses and learned that when our friend got there to rescue them somebody had gotten in a hurry and yanked them out already. She said they didn't have enough roots to make it probable that they could survive.
DR, I will be thinking of you and your parents and will pray for all of you. Life is full of adjustments but isn't very easy sometimes. Keep us updated when you can. I missed reading whatever you posted before you left to go see them so I don't know where you are now.
Back later, much to do outside.
Hi and goodmorning all you chatty ones. Its amazing that I get on at 9 am and I am just now posting at 11. I can't remember half of what I wanted to type now. LOL So HI to all and hope Sarv's arm gets some rest and feels better.
Joy, I too know how hard it is to be the one on the wrong side of the spoon. I still had such fresh and vivid memories of my mom giving me soup when I was sick as a child and then I turned around it was me feeding her. A close friend of mine has her mother in a home close to me, she has been in the same condition as your mom for the past 5 years. Her mind has left but her body is still strong. Another friend of her's gave this poem to her. Hits home.
To My Mother When She Dies
They will have called me to say you are gone,
That you went at, say, five of three last night.
But, I will wonder, when did you really leave?
Not in the tortured early days,
Though death surely beckoned you then.
Not during the silly season, when you smiled roguishly
And asked, "Did you and Phil ever get married?"
Gradually you retreated, into yourself, we said,
Though you still looked into my eyes and smiled
While your fingers were busy, busy, busy.
But one day, I wonder what day it was,
An imposter came and took your place
And I never saw you again.
I would like to have said, "I love you. Good-bye."
The imposter cared for no one,
And tried to destroy our memories of you.
So when they tell me you have died,
I will be content to have you back again.
Carol, I am so glad that your Dad is better then expected. I will keep him in my prayers. My father had a stroke and his left leg seemed useless at first. A few weeks after he was able to use in for support and although he walked slowly with a limp, he was walking, within two months he was able to walk with out assistance again. Slowly and with smaller steps but, he was up and walking.
I love all the new furniture. When my parents first moved in with us I had a metal canopy bed that I had gotten from a yard sale 10+ years before. Mom hated it. Hated all metal furniture. LOL. The room they used was directly across from mine and mom would look straight into my room from her bed, so she went shopping by catalog and bought DH and me new bedroom furniture without our knowledge. Wonderful present, would have been a bit better if we had known, I wasnt dress when the delivery came, and since she didn't measure it is a VERY tight fit in my small bedroom. Can't wait to have the extra room for a few pieces to sit in at the new house. The picture shows how little room I have between the bed and my dresser now.
Whose ever window is in the bedroom built by DH, I love it. I get out of bed and open the blinds before I even get to the bathroom.
Oh, I know I am going to have more catching up since it took me so long to type this out. Hope all are having a great day, I need to get started on the walls.
Casey
Casey...that brought tears to my eyes. But I know the feeling all too well. (I lost my mom to Brain Cancer 4 weeks after my youngest son was born. I miss her.)
~julie~
wow you step out to go to a 5 year old b-day party and look how much has happened!
Tried to speed read not good at it so HI everyone

I hit something and lost a long post. I hate when that happens! I was going to look for the picture of that pie Julie took the big chunk out of....LOL That was so funny!
Glad Molly is OK, Mother Nature must be giving her hints about getting out of there!
Joy posted while I was babbling, so I just now saw her room. It looks like a professional decorator did the job. The armoire is beautiful, but my eye caught that coverlet/bedspread, looks like an old fashioned crazy quilt, with those lovely jewel tones. It's similar to one I had years ago...won't do that again though. It would be covered with cat hair in no time at all!
Good news Carol, that your dad is already attempting to walk and will be in rehab quickly. So much depends on the patient being willing to try and try and try. It's sad that your mother is having a hard time, but with you to lean on, she'll get through it. Any time you feel like you need some encouragement just drop in and let us know.
Ummm, Ann, I'm voting for #1, even though I like the leaf contrast in #2, but since I never met a rose I didn't like, my opinion is useless!
I kind of figured Robert was either out building fences or potty training his new girlfriend (that should be an interesting comment for a new lurker to figure out) since the rest of us are hanging over our keyboards and wasting time. I did expect to see a photo of someone's derriere going in a window, but the fence is very nice. Did your DW think the cop cars were for you???? LOL
McCool them's some Cool candles, how creative! Almost too pretty to burn. My DS was into candle making a couple years back, but believe me, they didn't look like yours! She gave me one that was made with Lake Superior pebbles and red wax, that was so ....(what's a good word for ugly that isn't rude?....) unappealing I tried to keep it burning so that it would melt away, and it wouldn't stay lit. I finally put it in the guest room where only she would be likely to see it. Honestly, sometimes I'm afraid to open the package.....!
Giving up on finding that coffeemaker for DIL and DS. Went to Kmart and LNT this morning on my way to buy coffee beans... Bought a new toaster at Kmart, and several can't-live-without-gadgets at LNT, this hunt is costing me money and aching feet!
Have to go back to the vet, Souky's meds have turned color so I called them only to find out they didn't tell me to refrigerate it. So, now I looked at the label and the print is so fine, I couldn't even read it with my glasses on, had to get a magnifier. Yup. Refrigerate. They might have mentioned that when they gave it to me.
Hello to everyone else that I haven't directly commented to, but have read your posts and enjoyed them. Later dudes!!
Now I can't find that pie at all....Juuuuulieeeee!!
Very nice chest of drawers,Casey., it looks like you are showing a nice collections of different containers on top.
The mother of my youth, by that I mean I was only 18 years old when I left my country and family, died 13 years ago one year after I visited her last. My father still held a huge grudge against me for leaving, to the point where he denied my existance, on the death certificate only my sister's name was mentioned none of my children least of all mine. She was a wonderful, gentle mother.
I think of her often but I gained another mother, my MIL, she was my teacher about nature and country living and of course gardening from the very first day I met her, you should have seen her gardens, magnifiscent, still have many plants she gave to me and I gave many to my children, even my grandson has some of them now.
Maria
LOL @ Sheila!! (Several times to be exact. :-D)
I'll see if I can find that pie on my HD. But I may have to eat the rest of it before it gets into the thread again. LOL
~julie~
Maria, what country are you originally from? Yeah, thats what they are a collection of containers. Going to have to tell DH that the next time I find something I like. The perfume bottles were my mothers, the little green material box my DD made for me, the keys are real from DH's great great grandmothers boarding house in NY.
I love the furniture, here is the bed and headboard. I have to use a step stool to get on it. LOL
Casey
Going to go see if McCool added that website yet. I love candles.
Casey,
The poem brought tears to my eyes too. And so true. When my mother finally died, the most therapeutic thing I did was to make a collage of pictures of her younger years. It helped a bit to erase or at least soften the image of her staring into space with her jaw hanging open in the nursing home.
Re the rose, how about this version of #2? Doctored a bit in two places. You might see it in the enlarged version, but I won't be offering it in that version on the new web page.
Ann
I could recognise some as antiques, Casey,I am a registered antique dealerand was a buyer for an antique store. your bed is beautiful with that spread
I was born, brought up and educated in Vienna, Austria, a real urban brat, LOL the only timeI have been to the country was when I was very young, before the war, visitiing my grandparents on their farm. I met my husband in Vienna while I was at the U.of Vienna and he an American soldier, some of you know all that.
Maria
The poem does hit home with so many. Although my mother did not have Alzheimers or Dementia from age she did leave me early. She had lung cancer that had spread to her brain and attacked her memory and cognitive skills. Everyone thought I was so cruel as to not allow some of her more casual friends to visit in the last weeks. I felt it was best that they remembered her and not the imposter.
Aria, my mother lived in Austria for a few years before coming to the states. My father and her also dated in Vienna while he was serving in the Army. Wow......
How many languages do you know??? My mother and most of her friends just amazed me with their knowledge and ease of use with 9 different languages. I only know the bad words in those languages. OH and the sayings of "Get your body parts over here NOW" in most of them too.
Viola, I vote for the picture in the last post. It is clear, soft and I can tell it is real.
That is too much , Casey, unbeliefable, is your mother, should say was, Austrian?
Yes I studied , italian, french and latin and majored in english we started to learn in the first grade, all others came after. How ever because lack of usage I have forgotten most of it, even german i some time must think a bit before the proper word comes to my mind, my sister who still lives in Vienna has visited me a few times and I spent last may in Vienna, it is still the city of my dreams.
Maria
My mother was and still is Yugoslavian. I know that sounds strange. But even though both my parents are not here physically anymore, I know that spiritually they are with me all the time and saying that she was something sounds as though she herself had become something else. She didn't change what defined her, she evolved and is just continuing her journey in a different form. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my beliefs, if so I apologize now.
Vienna is beautiful in the spring. I want to visit there also when DH and I go for our 25th anniversary to see my mothers childhood home in Yugoslavia.
Casey was that poen original with you? If so, you are talented.
Ann
Holey Moley - spent the afternoon waiting for the furniture delivery guys - they finally came with the tv armoire- I love it!! However there are three places where the black paint is gone - grrrr. I pointed it out and they gave me a number to call. When DH came home, he said, get out the black permanent marker - all fixed but one big (obviously not painted part) on the bottom - I'll tackle that with a humungo marker. Makes me mad tho, you pay an arm and a leg and it isn't perfect. Oh well...
Vio - I like #1 - very pure looking. But # 2 runs a close second.
Carat (casey) beautiful bedroom suit. We have real tiny bedrooms in this house too - one of my dreams is to have a huge bedroom with an attached bathroom!! We have one strip around our bed and only one person can fit in the aisle at a time (good thing I have my own bedroom LOL)
Bal (Robert) you sure are a busy guy! Glad the pup found out how to use the 'pet door' - I wonder if a cat would learn how to use one. Oh forget it, we have a brick house and DH would never punch a hole in the brick. Better safe than sorry as far as calling in the police. I'd love a neighbor like you. Which brings back a memory. Across the street lived a guy that seldom slept at night- he would walk thru the house looking out the windows. He once called us in the middle of the night to tell us our chimney was on fire. Another time there was a car parked along the road (we live in the country) and he walked up to it with his shotgun and told them to get a move on. We never worried about leaving the house empty when on vacation as he was our protector!! He was a wonderful neighbor, but alas, has moved.
DR - glad to hear that your dad is not as bad as you were expecting. Sounds like he is making progress already - good for him! They say that the first few weeks are so important- trying to get back what was lost.
McC - beautiful candles!! I have one burning most of the time- vanilla right now... But with xmas coming, I'll get out my pine smelling ones. I have a soy one that I haven't tried yet.
M5- what in the world is LNT? (when I first saw it I thought you meant 'lint' LOL) I haven't stepped foot out of the house today - and I hate staying inside!! I ususally go somewhere everyday...even with gas so high. And I love to shop!! Sorry about the pets' meds - can't believe the small print on stuff now a days!!
Well, DH just shouted 'what's for dinner?' He doesn't realize he isn't working in the machine shop -he's home. I shouted back ' I don't know" - need to get off my duff and see what's in the frig.
I've now eaten almost all the pumpkin pie- ickkkkkk Now I don't want another one until Thanksgiving = if then. My intake of food today has been awful - not the amount - just the junk I've put in my mouth....no wonder I have a headache..
take care everyone!!
sue
I have been popping in all day, reading the posts, then going about my work. I knew if I started posting, my day would be shot, and I wouldn't get anything done. You all have had WAY TOO MUCH to say today!! Since I have been home alone, I have not uttered one word today!! At least not to a human. That's got to be a record for me.
I am not going to try to comment on each post, way to many to do that. But I have enjoyed the pie, the furniture, the candles, the pictures, the news about Molly, DR update on her dad (glad to know that he is already up), progress on RU, and to see that I was listed, now somebody wants me to learn real names instead of screen names?, and somebodys name is Elaine, (love it) Bals, new kid, and the progress on potty training, and the new fence, and the burglar LOL Next time it will be a real one, and you won't call!! The poem that was passed along, and sad about all the tales about aging parents, with Alzheimers, or dementia, Morning gayle, I vote for May 20-21, as we have several bdays the first part of May. Mary, sorry about back to plan A on the rose garden.Julie thanks for your willingness to start new threads,
I have been busy cleaning my house, as my twin sister is coming tomorrow afternoon. Have made good progress, all I have to do is to wash the kitchen floor. It is wood, and only requires damp moping, with a special cleaning product recommended by the Manufacturer. I have supper ready, waiting on DH to come home so we can eat.
I love all the pictures, I wish I could post, but I am on dial up, and it takes forever to post one. I have all my pictures in the computer, and use them as screen savers. One of my neighbors when she comes to visit, says I am not being rude by not looking at you when I talk, I am just catching up on your new pictures.
The weather here has been rainy (the drizzle kind) and very cool. They say that the temps will begin to climb beginning tomorrow, still not warm enough for me It supposed to be in the mid 50's by weeks end.
Will check in later, to see what's been happening.
Viola(Ann), No I didn't write the poem. My close friends neighbor wrote it for her. Yes, she is very talented....she has had several poems published and currently works with Hallmark in creating cards....
Sarv(Sue), thank you. Thank you, my mom had great taste in furniture. Its all cedar lined and tongue and groove assembly. Its going to be a real bear to take down and move. DH wasn't home when it was delivered and brought in, I don't think he realizes exactly how heavy it really is. I think I will be up at the store for a necessity when he is starting that task. LOL
I know its frustrating when you purchase something and when it gets to you its damaged or not what you ordered. I had to exchange my loveseat three times before they got me one that was not damaged. And yes, cats do learn to use the doggy door. At least both of mine do. The big one is funny to watch as he gets half way in it and then looks like a teeter totter having the weigh switch from the back to the front.
I am at a loss for dinner.........
Casey
Was just passing by and took a peek, and well, you all know how that goes!!
LNT= Linens and Things....
Swiss steak and mashed potatoes and buttered carrots for dinner, and maybe some of that leftover red cabbage from the other night.
Leaving now. Really.
Sheila
Im there. OH wait. Too cold there. Im gone.
UMMM, gosh sounds great though. Does flash freeze Overnight Express mean anything to you???
Who has the 2 x 4???
Dh woke up pissy, got on me for being on here all day. Now just tore off to go to the store for stuff for dinner. He had gotten squirrel from him mom that "HAS" to be eaten tonight. First of all, that foil wrapped package has no label on it, so how was I supposed to know that? And second of all, I thawed a package of hamburger and all the spaghetti fixings are lined up on the counter by the stove. It's only 4:30 here!!! No, I didn't do laundry again today, but I did the dishes, and I picked up his clutter in the living room. But Cheese and Crackers!!! Give me that 2 x 4!!!
Can't find the 2X4 but here is a lead pipe that I am sure will work in a pinch. My DH tried to get huffy once over needed a load of clothes done. By the next afternoon he discovered I washed them all in bleach. LOTS and LOTS of bleach. OOPPSSSS.......................
Oh my goodness where do I start. mumble mumble growl growl. Drove 12 miles to the doctors sat for 45 minutes and the nurse comes out and says "doc was called away on an emergency do you want to wait or reschedule"......it was 4:30 then. Will call tomorrow and make another appointment.
Casey, your poem, lovely. How blessed your friend is to be able to put such a hard thing into such beautiful words. thank you so much. Your bedroom set is beautiful and the spread is WOW.
McCool if you haven't already listed your web site could you dmail it to me....love the candles have been holding on to some old glass pieces but have never gotten around to making any.
M5 we picked up the coverlet at 'Vermont Country Store' and yes the cats do make a fuzzy mess but it washes and hey their family too. I loved your livingroom so much I made it my wallpaper.......great way to enjoy pictures that are posted.
Julie, you.......and eating a pie? How did I miss that!
Son is waiting to go on a shopping trip with me?? Wants some stylish clothes and doesn't want to use his own gas. Gas I can provide. lol. Not sure about the style part. Jeans and tee or sweat shirts are my choice.
Oh my MG that is bad you poor thing but then I mean that you have a squirrel you are going to eat!!!! I am just not with you on that.
My DH is making a wonderful chicken pasta with roasted red peppers and artichoke hearts. Yummy
I will give your DH a big whack on the head for being huffy though!
You did get stuff done around the house! And you had to continue the "blu"
Do they not understand??
Thanks Joyous,
The spread is a year long search for the right plum color. By the time I found it DH was so tired of shopping for one he never made a sound when we were at the register buying it.
For those that don't know, I am keeping the purchase of our new property a secret from my best friend who lives across the street. Going to surprise her and her DH when we can both go down and see their faces. But today, she calls in a panic, someone was at the house. They were taking pictures and checking out the backlands. She wanted me to think of something to do or go and say to make them go away and never come back. I just asked, why? Her reply, because she feels I only need to see the property for what it could be and I would get it and she needs a little longer to convince me. I told her that her plea's were not going to help, and the property was just to much for me and the house was so plain. LOL
Gosh I laughed so hard when we hung up. She is going to strangle me, just through tears of joy I hope. LOL
What's the matter with them?
1. Sense of humor stops at the Three Stooges level
2. They don't know how to play.
3. They think with their stomachs. Second.
4. They don't want us to have fun with anyone but them.
Got it?
Maria- beautiful rose. I only have one rose bush and the japanese beetles just love it. It's a wonder the darn thing is still alive= in fact it is blooming now! I don't know the name, but it doesn;t have the wrap around petals- it is almost flat and not at all rose looking.
2x4 is on the way!!! It was in the junk closet and DH just cleaned out the recyclables, so I found it again! He refuses to pay for trash pick up (is he Dutch or what?) He burns our paper products and we take the rest to the recycle joint about once a year. Drives me crazy...but ya gotta pick your fights. This one is not worth it. I just smile and say 'honey, the bin is full AGAIN!!'
joy -drat- sitting in the doc office only to have him a 'no show' - well =just think someday you may need him and he'll be there in an emergency for you (won't make you feel better, I know...reschedule....grrr)
mg- SQUIRREL!! ya eat those??? What do they taste like.. don't know that I could do it. In fact, I could easily give up meat altogether. My DH is so hard of hearing - when he grouses at me, I suddenly become hard of hearing too. What's good for the goose is good for the gander in my book!
defoe - I work for 45 min and give myself a 15 min limit on DG. Works pretty good, unless I forget to look at the clock . Have fun with your twin. Do you look alike, dress alike, think alike??? Twins fascinate me - I had two different sets in my class and they answered for each other. And the mother insisted on dressing them identical - never could tell them apart. They were named Susan and Sharon and when someone asked their name, they would respond - SusanSharon or SharonSusan. It was comical buy kinda sad at the same time.
Gosh gals/guys, I have tried using 'real' names, but just can't get the hang of it - sorry....I spend so much time cross referencing...
Sue
