Suggestion: Upper Midwest Regional Forum?

Elkhorn, WI

Hello fellow northerners! I'm in southeast Wisconsin. It would be great to chat with those that share the same zone as me.

Quoting:
How about we start with one forum: "Upper Midwest Gardening"

YEAH!!!! Sounds terrific to me, Terry!

There's just one thing...how would we divide an "Upper Midwest" forum. LOL I think the issue here is not if that single forum would need another...but rather that other 'regions' would like to have their own forum as well.

I'm TRULY excited about this forum and I'm sure that there will plenty of traffic to confirm that it was needed.

THANKS DAVE!!! THANKS TERRY!!!

And THANK you to everyone who put your name in the pot to get the forum. (Mostly...HUGE thanks to those of you who did the job of contacting members. (((( ~HUGS~ ))))

...Now...where do we find this new forum? LOL

~julie~

Edited to add and subtract words that I was too excited to get right the first time. LOL

Count me in......I like the idea of Regional forums. If my vote counts at
all, I'd go with Upper Midwest region for our area.
Vic

Count me in for Upper Midwest :)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Wheeeeeee! We're closing on a possible 45-50 participants!!! (OK, so I've only counted 43...LOL)

Can't wait!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

I don't want to divide it Julie, if you think you fit, join in, if not, beg for another forum like we did.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Gayle, you'd *better not* kick ME out of this region!! LOL (Oh...now I see what you were saying..."nevermind")

~julie~

PICKETT, WI(Zone 5a)

Hello
Thanks to Gardengeek who emailed me about this forum. Count me in, I am interested.

Mary

Des Moines, IA(Zone 5a)

Count me in & it doesn't make any difference what you call it because if anyone that wants to be part of the forum can jump in anytime. Here in the midwest everyone knows that when winter starts in comes from the north & spreads south!! SO it doesn't make much difference where you want to draw the line as who should belong in any certin area.
Jerry.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Don't get online on weekends, so I'm late........
I'm interested, too....but wouldn't this be more effective it it were by *zone* rather than by region?

Seems that each state has at least 2 zones....some more!

OOps...just noticed that Gardengeek has basically suggested the same idea......I think that's more practical...just my $.02

Thanks Terry & Dave!

I can't wait to get started in our "Upper Midwest" forum. Just think of all the posting we will be doing this winter in it!

(and I'm really really hoping that when it is set up it has thumbnails, hint hint, heh heh)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Thumbnails??? Have I missed something else?

(Gayle...I already have a BIG list of questions to start off the new forum with. How about you?)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Go to "My Info" then click on "Manage your preferences" - one of the choices on the left is "Forums"

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks Terry....I knew it was there someplace. ;-)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Or on your home page, up towards the top it says "There are XXX forums and you are watching XXX of them. The watching is a link to what you are looking for.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks Joan...I got it now. :-)

~julie~

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Sorry Terry, I didn't mean to step on your toes by mentioning the 'watching' link. I just think it's way cool! :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks for bringing it up - it's an even easier way to update your list ;o)

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Sounds like a good idea to me Ann in Iowa

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

You are going to love you own forum - (sorry Terry) - but on the Texas forum I find out so much more about my area and I get to meet peole in and near me. We have the same issues, the same plants do good and most of the same plants fail. It is the best feature on Daves and well worth all the begging!

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, now that Terry & Dave have managed to shoo all those midwesteners off to their own forum, I guess those of us in the Northwest had better really start working on our own forum or at least a thread of our own. What do you think, Northwesters? I know that our climate is often much more Mediterranean than any of the others (you know, rain and/or snow in the winter, fall & spring, dry in the summer) and plants that do well in equivilent zones the rest of the country can often fail in ours - and visa versa. Dotti

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Why not start a new thread about that, Dotti? This one is kinda long. *hint* :-)

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

I don't know how. Will you please? Please??? Dotti

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Dotti, you can do it. Trust me! :-)

Just go back to the Dave's Garden forum index and scroll down to the bottom where it says "Starting a new topic". It's a similar box to the one used to reply here in this thread.

Besides, it's your idea and you'll automatically have the new thread added to your watched list. :-)

Though I love, and have lived in Iowa and Missouri, I am now in Wisconsin, about 40 miles SE of Duluth and directly in line with the winds that blow north to south across Lake Superior. With a growing Zone 3a, I would find it most helpful to exchange ideas and information with gardeners from similar and colder zones, as I know that whatever will grow in zones 1-3 will grow in my garden!

Can stateside gardeners join the Canadian forum? Or can Ontario join with the Upper Midwest/Central Canada forum?

And can we include Michigan (it was not an option under choice C), but the Upper Pennisula especially is similar to WI, MN. and Ontario.
