I am putting up my 12x38 now. It is 6 feet high. It use to be my hobby house a few years ago. Since then I have moved and have been starting over. Now its goin to be my seedling house for getting plants ready for the big houses.
I just grow a little each year. I hope to put in a 30x96 next Fall.

That is a zone 5 dream to grow such beauties in winter. Your greenhouse must be air tight to grow such lovely looking plants. I am glad I started this post, there is so many of you , like me, that love to garden in the winter. I am hoping to have mine insulated better next year so I can grow seedling in. However I do have some petunias That are still budding and alive from past summer. I have a gorgouse straw flower that is very bright still and blooming and putting on new buds in mine. It is just great to go out there and see the bright color of it in the dead of this winter.
Keep the pics comming.

raggins, The inside of your gh looks very inviting and green. Do you have to worry much about heating in your area. Idon't know how cold it gets. Right now the temp. outside is 7 degrees above at almost sunrise. One lucky thing so far we have had very little wind and quite a bit of sunshine. There is about 5 inches of frozen snow left on the ground fromthe snow 10 days ago. Today also is the 12th day of temp. below freezing 7-24, a record for this time of year.

My gh does warm quite nicely in the daytime sunshine. But i don't dare turn the electric heater off, and I sure hope we don't have a power outage.

Nice to see your gh and know you will enjoy it. DonnaS

I posting these in another post but will add mine to this one, since I learned so much from all of you and after debating on which one I should start with, my hubby decided to build our own little one with the space we had to work with.
We are closer to completing with a few little touches left that he wants to add, but working on the inside now with the brick floor.
I am loving it and excited to get my plants inside.
Here is a picture taken trying to get all the poly put on the greenhouse.

One more of the little sink area he built for me.
Thank all of you for your great ideas that got me started.

All I can say is that I'm 'green' with envy!!! I would absolutely love it!!! Unfortunately, I have two problems; not enough room in back yard and 100 ft oak trees all over the neighborhood!!!

I get to enjoy through your photos! Thanks for sharing everyone!

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

That was my problem when we built this one, so I had to settle for an 8x8. All my back yard is slopping down hill and makes it difficult to landscape.

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

Vickie, I can certainly appreciate the slope problem that restricted your GH placement. The lawn area directly behind our home where we decided to place our greenhouse was sloped downhill towards the woods. We had to build 'up' (and buy fill/stone) to get the greenhouse foundation level. In doing so, we needed to shore-up and then reinforce the entire area.

Lookie!! The greenhouse created more work! :-O Not only did we have to bulldoze a service road to get to the greenhouse (propane tank refills), but my hubby (aka "The Greenhouse Slave") had to build a 200-foot wall with landscape bricks so that we could reinforce the entire area.

Now that is a great greenhouse and those slopes sure make it difficult to work with but we know it can be done..I love your name name for your hubby, that was what mine said he was today since he spent so much time hauling in sand and rock to fill in the cracks of the brick and said he has neglected his woodworking or updating the website in months..but I think he is as proud of it as I am.
He said it reached 90 in there today so that was great...brought my fan and everything else I need in there.
I would love to see pics of the inside of your greenhouse. Next year we are going to replace the poly on ours and put up the greenhouse panels but the biggest part of it is done..

Well didn't have money for a big gh but here is a picture of mine it is a Riga 7'6 X 11' something. I got one that would easily shed snow. It stays at least 20-25degrees warmer inside(evening and nights), with the sun out the temp goes to about 30++ degrees warmer even in temps below 32(it is empty, nearly). The ground was cold when we put it up so I am hoping the temp averages rise next yr when it has had a chance to warm the ground and be filled up. I am not heating it until Feb when I start more seed. I have some winter sown things,I'm just experimenting with them.
there will be raised beds for garden space, sun is a premium commodity here!
It is fun looking at and reading everyones great ideas,

I love seeing all your great greenhouse pictures, that was a lot of my inspiration when we decided to build ours and I can say the roof was the hardest for him with just one ladder and no help around but me , I guess we should have used the tractor but didn't think of that one nice job...

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Chicory, what are those big cement slabs with the handles in front of the greenhouse?

My greenhouse made of fiber glass, with gas heat, a regular room humidifier, windows all around that open with front and back doors. I LOVE IT. I was re-potting, and potting up brug and clerodenrum cuttings yesterday. No space is wasted, including the rafters where the bromeliads and orchids reside.
It's difficult to get a full view....theres a jungle in the way.

From the inside looking out. I keep a mosquito net over the door, helps keeps bugs out, heat in believe it or not- and it looks cool at night with a blue light shining on it.

rjudd, what a very clean and interesting gh you have. I'm guessing you don't have to turn heaters on very often and the humidity must be pretty high in there. Last night at 9:00 pm almost first day of winter was the first time this month that the temp. outside reached 32 degrees. it has been unusually cold, now we are predicted to have warmer than normal temps and some rain. Will probably melt the icy snow that we have left from earlier in the month.

My power bill will be really high for Dec. But it is nice to go out into the gh this time of year. Had a couple of brugs blooming and sure smelled nice.

DonnaS

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Donna,
No, I don't have to turn the heaters on too often, except that I have a bunch of cuttings started and they like a little bid of heat. This time of year is not too humid, so I do keep the humidity elevated to keep everyone happy. I see it is suppose to warm up here this weekend too- so will turn off the heat in the GH.
Yes! it is so nice to go to the green house and fuss around in there for a while.

Deer Lodge, MT(Zone 4a)

I know my GH's are quite a bit larger than most here...but thought I'd include them anyways...I remember starting out small...10x12 back in the early '80's. In '95 I built a new one..13x16...and then ended up going into the GH business commercially from there with a 27x60...the one on the right...and then a 30x60 two years ago. I still grow some vegetables for family use, especially tomatoes for the parents, so it's not all commercial use at all times. Right now have them shut down until the end of February when I'll crank them up little by little and am looking forward to getting going all over again.

...
My GH is 130 X 30 ( this is mtrs not feet ) .. its made out of wood and its cost me roughly $ 6 per sq mtr to build and that includes everything !! I'm sure u guys pay a whole lot more than this ... Lets see what u have to say about my GH ..

The shade net is just lying on the roof but thats due to the fact that the GH was still under construction .. Now its at a gap of about 3 ft above the sheets .

GH from a distance !!!

Thumbnail by khaadu75
kotgarh, India

Hi Raggins, It started as a hobby but turned into a business !! U wont believe it but till the year 2001 I didnt even know how to turn a seed into a seedling ..lol

I'm a commecial grower now and this GH plus the extensions is used for growing Bell Pepper ... I mite also construct another 4000 sq mtr GH for tomatoes but only after I manage confirming that cherry tomatoes will give me a much higher yield under a GH than in open fields .

Hope u like it .. I got a lot of bruises trying to set this up .. so does Dad -- lol

Cheers
