Coffee and...Part 35...! :-D

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Whoa, Robert, that's a looong ways from Boise clear across Oregon along the Columbia to Portland and thenn all the way up to Marysville. Couldn't you find the dog of your heart's desire a little closer to home??

An airplane ride wold not be the best thing for the pup anyway. No fun for doggie.

Sorry 'boutr the knee acting up.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yay, Robert!!! (On both counts!) How far is Boise? My mother was born there.

Did I tell y'all I sold my set of 10 dining chairs? Check has cleared and the shipper is 4-1/2 hours from me (in Charlotte) so they are waiting for a truck coming this way to pick them up. It will certainly clear a lot of space in my back room!

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Wow Darius I would think so, now you can widen the path. LOL

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Some busy day, Sarv!! I made the bed. Had four separate conversations with the septic pumper guy. Could he park on the driveway. ( NO) Did he have a long enough hose. (How would I know?) Could he use the bathroom. (Sure) Something is broken in the sensor and we need service. (Fine). Then I went and got fabric to match the slipcover so I can cover the hassock. Ate lunch. Vacuumed. Petted the littlest cat for a while. Oh yeah, balanced my check book . Took up the whole day so far and didn't get much done at all.

Hey Robert, are those Taylor and Henry sweats made in Canada? Try to remember where you got them...LOL. DH has some favorites that I picked up for him but since I'm a dedicated discount shopper I seldom find the same brands at the same place. He hates to shop so most of his wardrobe replacements are gotten by me. Good news about the puppy. Bad news about the transportation problems. Would your DW be up for a drive? MY DD will not take her dogs on a plane. Ever. Did it once and said never again.

I was just going to check in and not post, but if I let it go too long I can't remember what somebody said 76 inches before.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Blooms, I know you wrote this morning about keeping busy, but because my back is such a mess Dr. told me not to wotk in the garden (I miss that) and not to vacuum (do not miss that at all) so I just take walks and swallow pain killers.

Nice that you finally sold your chairs, Darius.

Happy for you, Robert, to think youare getting a new baby , how are you bringing him home? That is a long drive! Enjoy your wine!
Maria

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again. Anybody care for plain yogurt with bananas? Even though yogurt is a funny word the stuff is good for you. I used to put it into jello when my kids were little, they ate a lot of it and didn't know it. Sneaky, huh?

Robert, I am about 150 miles from Boise. If you come driving this way I hope you will let me know so I can meet you when you stop to rest. I live 20 miles from Baker and 40 from LaGrande so I know you wouldn't want to be adding miles to your already long trip. You can make it from Seattle to Baker in about 6 hours without stops going over Snoqualmie Pass and then I-82 south into Oregon and I-84 east. Taking I-5 to Vancouver and I-84 would add about 3 hours and lots more traffic. Hearing dog training sounds interesting, tell us more.

Darius, good for you selling those chairs! You must have had some big dinner parties to have needed that many. What happened to the table?

We woke up to rain and wind but by noon the storm had passed and the sun came out so I started digging up some ditch lilies. OOOOF, they have been there much too long. I have 3 clumps in a bed with other daylilies and only remember where 2 of them are, so the other one will be marked next year and removed then. I'll plant something different where I am taking them out so that I can snip off any DL that comes up there and know it's the right one. The next project is to dig out a 2 foot wide row of iris, divide and save a few and bring in some better soil before replanting anything there. One new thing that will go there is a pink climbing rose that spent the summer in a pot.

Time to get back outside. See ya later.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Hi Gobs and Gobettes,

Today was much better than yesterday. The angry looking clouds only came over head, spit a couple sprinkles and decided we didn't deserve another day of lost work, and they moved on.

We finished everything I planned by today. We brought 4 ladders home along with all the paint gear. Moved the Mustang out of the carport and organized all the equipment............then we started gathering plants.

I am taking a lot of plants up to Archer to a friend who will care for them til later. Plus, I'll be stopping to see Fireant in Mascotte, then on up to see Amaryllisgal. I may have had to cancel out on the KYRU, but am really looking forward to seeing these ladies as well as everyone at Juja's roundup by Lake City next Saturday.

I have an appointment to see the fella about the mobile home in Gainesville on Wednesday morning. I have very high hopes for this one.

I just took a short break waiting for the sun to go over the trees so we can put the plants in the van without depressing them. How many plants do you think Molly can jam in that van? Think I shall take a picture when I'm done. Be kinda like how many college boys can you shove into a VW BUG. BTW, Jeremy was hoping to take a nap on the bench seat on the trip up. HAHAHAHA. Nope, plants will be everywhere.

Well, I'm a burning daylight. Better get back out there. Still have to load the plants, do some laundry, pack some clothes, get doggies ready for their sitter, wash off this horrible sweat, photocopy docs and stuff and who knows what else.

Catch up with ya later.

Molly

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Mary, yes I used to have wonderful dinner parties. I'm keeping the table as it is a classic design (fluted column pedestals) and at least 110 years old but wasn't a "set" with the chairs which are perhaps 1930's. Plus, the base comes apart so it stores in not too much space. I hope to use it as a craft work table if I ever get enough space again!

Molly, I'm gonna have to do the same one of these days... and I don't look forward to moving plants but I also won't leave them! Have a safe journey!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Hi, Everyone! If you guys keep up this jabbering we'll be starting another thread by tomorrow evening. LOL

I spent the day outside again. It was a little warmer than I like but the sun was little lower in the sky so it wasn't quite as bad as a month ago.

My order of Crown Imperials (Fritillaria) came this morning...and they're already planted. I also ordered a few Allium Globe Masters, they're in the ground, too! Now I have 50 daffodils and 100 gorgeous Grape Hyacinth bulbs to get planted...but they can wait for a while yet. (Those 'gorgeous' GH bulbs are about the size of a PLUM!! I didn't know they got *that* big!! Needless to say I'm very happy with my supplier. I got these bulbs from Colorblends dot com)

Sometime during the hot & sweaty part of the day I ventured down in the basement to see what of mess I left for myself last spring. I think I've decided that I need to have garbage dumpster parked right outside the door. LOL Easier to start fresh than sort all that junk. :-D

That's about it...

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

That's the problem with cellars, Julie. Live in Florida and learn to heave. There is no place to put much of anything. We have a crawl space in the attic which I think is just about ready to come thru my ceiling. There is so much up there I can't even think about it. I'll let my kids deal with it when I am gone. hehehe

Glad you were able to get out....your days are numbered for that... But then, you'll have all winter to deal with the cellar.....no?

Good to hear from you.

Hap

PS and you're right. we have been very gabby....

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Hap, Hearing dog training is a very long ordeal and one I'm not capable of managing on my own. Hopefully the Goldenears organization will have a trainer in the Puget Sound area who can help us along. The process results in a dog who would alert me to sounds like the telephone, smoke alarm, door bell and the like.. which I can't hear. For them to pick the dog, do the training, and work with the dog and it's new recipient could take a year or so and cost over $ 10,000.00. Much the same as a seeing-eye dog. Service organizations like the Lions Club and others contribute to these places and so a qualified person is not denied the animal because of lack of money. Not being profoundly deaf I could never see trying to apply for one and deprive someone who really needs it.(after all, I have my treasured wife!) My hope is that they will help me in training Tinkerbelle without reducing their funds.

The Boise trip is about 530 miles each way, about a 9 hour drive, less in a ferrari.(no trunk space so I had to leave it in Italy.lol) Will probably make it a 2 day trip and enjoy the scenery. Hope there is a chance to get to see you Mary, it isn't out of the realm of possibility. More on it later. Need to get to AAA and have them map out the best route. Drove straight through from L A to Seattle in January some 45 years ago in a International pickup with no heater or defroster. Got chilly in the mountains somewhere south of Pendleton! Don't think I could manage that nowadays.(that's AAA, not AA by the way))

Congratulations on the chair sales Darius. I yearn for a dining table that would seat 12, but how often would we seat 12??? Thanks for the links. The first one sounds like it might work.

Blooms, I've contacted or gone to the websites of every listed Sheltie breeder in Washington and Oregon, some in Idaho and one in the UK. Then the several hundred websites internationally were checked several times a week with no real success. This one happened to have several litters with this little girl who didn't quite have the "show ring" pizzaz, and some other circumstances which led to her being put up for 'adoption'. I was just lucky to have been in the right place at the right time. Closer to home would have ben nicer, but I'm thrilled at having the chance to get her, wherever she may be.
Meezers, the Taylor and Henry's are made in China. Where else??? Maybe I should try a Chinese translation on the internet. Don't remember where I got them, but I'm sure it wasn't China. Since my sartorial splendor consists usually of sweatpants and a pocket tee, I only go wardrobe shopping every year or two. Formal wear is a pair of jeans and a shirt with buttons, some of which are going on their second decade. Therefore, good sweats are imperative!

Please accept my apologies for rambling on incoherently, It's too wet to go out and too early to start dinner.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Here we are. Loaded from the back of the only bench seat in there. There are plants in the big bin and the 2 small bins stacked up there.

I have trees in there, bushes, seedling trees, salvias, I can't even remember what all.

Don't worry about it Bal....we like to hear you ramble....

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Mercy, Molly...you still got room!!!! I see some air...

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

And only a drop in the bucket of what you will still need to move?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Looking in the side door, we may have a napping place for the boy. There's a bucket of pond plants, giant milkweed and a pot of iceplant. The cooler can go on the floor. OOPS we still need to pack some clothes and take a big water jug. That bench may be filled yet.

I think my next trip I may have to rent a Uhaul trailer.

We've also got a shovel, rake, clippers, snippers, diggers and a machete.

The list goes on and on and on. I know I will forget something.

Safe trip, girlfriend.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Hap, Jeremy says the plants will make us some air. And I'm not finished until I put the car in gear and pull out of the driveway.

Darius, you are right, just a drop in the bucket.

I suppose it's just as well this is happening now.........I can't even imagine the amount of plants I could buy or trade over the next year.

Oh yes, we came back in from loading the van and find the compressor on the a/c isn't working. Landlord isn't answering his cell phone and his wife is not home. The children (very young) are the ones who answer the phone because grandma speaks no english. NOT TONIGHT!!!

I think I don't have a landlord anymore. Haven't seen nor heard from him since he broke the news. BTW, the realtor hasn't even shown the house once in the past 3 weeks.

Molly
:^)))

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Maybe check the breaker box?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Hap, there are 3 breakers boxes in this little cracker box of a house. None of them are marked. I thought I found the compressor switch and flipped it off. When I diddled with those wires that are exposed to the elements on the compressor, they sparked. Wrong breaker.

A real mickey mouse wiring job on this house.

Think I'll go take a cold shower.

Still no call back from the LL.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Whoa! Too much of everything going on to respond to it all! Apologies to anyone I miss.

Sorry, Mary. That sounds like a real bummer after all the effort you've been putting in up until now. Well, at least you have the satisfaction of having done so well up to this point.

Aria, "Happy Birthday" doesn't really ring true with the way you've said you're feeling, so my wish for you is that the coming year will be much better than the last one.

Mg "She had to make up a batch of her own from scratch. Raw hockeypucks. Vile looking little things." I really had to laugh at that, especially since I've made dumplings both from scratch and from Bisquick with pretty much the same results. DH though sometimes gets nostalgic and wants dumplings like Mum used to make. No matter what I do, he says mine aren't near "leaden" enough! (His mother was a sweetheart, but not a great cook.)

Balvenie, great news about the pup! She looks like a winner to me.

Joyous, do you do any business with a supplier named Vemars? If not, I'll d-mail you some info. I think you'd find them useful and they're based in N.Y. as well.

Molly, good luck with your traveling jungle! (and with the wonderful landlord! NOW aren't you glad you're moving?)

Good for you for getting the grapes processed, sarv. I've caught up with some things, but there's eggplant that's about to decay if I don't get to it really soon.

DH and I managed to get most of the base for a metal shed "kit" put together today. I haven't been in much of a position to complain about his plastic model kits since a good portion of them came from my shop, BUT when they started to take over our bedroom (besides the crawl space, the front room, the basement at the house, and the basement at the store) I'd had enough! I just hope we can get the shed put together before winter. A wooden one would have been SO much better, but we couldn't afford it.

Darius, if you don't mind my asking (as most everyone else here probably already knows the answer) what kind of craft work do you do? That table sounds great. I've got too much equipment stuffed onto a workbench that's too small and too low, plus I've taken over half of DH's desk with my buffer and drill press.

That's it for me. I have to draw up a "to do" list for tomorrow or I'll forget half of the calls, orders, etc. that really should be taken care of during business hours.

Bye!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

McCool... I have equipment like a book press for hand-made books(weighs a LOT! and heavy to move), stuff to make paper, a jeweler's torch, a Fordham flexible-shaft drill, thousands of hand tools/bits for everything including clay sculpting, a full complement of building tools from my stint as a builder, beveled glass stuff (although I sold my diamond saw to BetsyBug), beads, raw silver, gold and copper, clay and who know's what all else! (Oh, and about 8 bushels of dried gourds.)

Guess I've tried almost everything except fabric arts.

MG, my mother made about half hockeypucks and half good rolled dumplings. We'd sing "She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain" and when we'd get to the verse about making Chicken and Dumplings, we'd sing "We WON'T make chicken & dunmplings when she comes" LOL.

Maria - beautiful picture of both of you!

All - I won't be in chat tomorrow night probably. I'm having my endoscopy tomorrow and from what I've heard from everyone - I'll probably be really sleepy tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it turns out. I thought this weekend that I'd cancel it - cause I don't think they'll find anything - but then as I was eating once this weekend - I had pain after I swallowed - so maybe I better find out if there is anything there. Wish me luck!

Everyone take care!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well finally got it all caught up. Straightened up the house after DH and DGD had been here for 3 days while I was gone to the RU. My implements of cleaning choice were a shovel and rake and a huge garbage can!! LOL DH was not if favor of me going to the RU, he thought that with his pouting, that I would cancel NOT. Friday morning as I was getting everything ready to go, he said if I had it to do over again I would go with you!! He wasn't even enticed by the opportunity to fish in one of the State's best Crappie Lake.

Well traded for some neat plants at the RU. (Since I don't have many!!) So I have been out finding temporary places for them. Am planning a new garden bed this spring, so they will be moved then. Took cuttings of some things before I went, and have them potted and ready to overwinter. All my trays and pots are clean and awaiting the time to start some seeds!

Picked some tomatoes from late plants last night. Found the plants that had been pushed to the side this spring and planted them in a flower bed. They are doing great. So much nicer to have BIG SLICES OF TOMATO, rather than the golf ball sized ones of the regular garden.

DGD will be here all week, as they are on fall break. Don't understand the new school schedules. When I was in school, you didn't get days off except for snow, and they were very rare. She is in the 4th grade, and last week took an overnight field trip. Wouldn't you have loved to be a chaperone on that trip? Why not spend that money on education, rather than fun disguised as education?

Robert, good news on the new fur kid!! Hope it all works out for you.
Aria, sorry about your back problems, hope they get better soon.

Someone asked about my arm pain, it is from carpel tunnel, and I do wear a brace at night. Since I have been going to the chiropractor, it is better though. Someone also told me to try Vitamin B-6. Start out by taking 50 mg daily, for a week, increase by 50 mg, each week until you are at 300 mg per day. Going to try it, nothing to lose except the lining of my stomach.

Well going to get in bed early tonight after my work intensive day. Sweet Dreams, All, had forgotten about Jimmy Durante and Mrs. Calabash!! So Goodnight wherever you are!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hah! When I was in high school, my bedroom was on the closed-in front porch at my grandfather's house. His oldest son (divorced and dating) also lived there.

I'd go to sleep with the radio by my head, down low... and at 10:00 our best DJ would sign off with "Goodnight Gunga Din, wherever you are" and I'd fall asleep soon afterwards.

Uncle Otis would always come home after that, and turn off my radio, and complain loudly the next day even when I could show him how few pennies a year it cost to run my radion.

So in honor of Jerry Wichner,
"Goodnight Gunga Din... wherever you are."

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Robert, heck, it's a straight shot from Marysville down 5 to Portland and if you take the 205 around Portland to 84 it's I-84 all the way to Boise. You'd have to work at getting lost. LOL I remember most the Multnomah Falls along the Columbia and Immigration Pass over past Pendelton. And lots of forest along that stretch.

I hadn't understood how special the puppy is. It's a beautiful time of year to make that trip.

Maria, so she's the one that knows about the roses. How great is that? and I was really reccommending whacking something ...laughing here... thinking in terms of dead tomato plants... but if doctor says not to strain self whacking is probably out.

Darius, the wonderful thing is you not only have these tools you can use them and make things. As soon of course as you actually have room to do that sort of thing.

Molly, luck on the Gainsville trailer - is this the 16 ft wide one you mentioned before? That sounded really nice. You pack a van like I do. fully. LOL

Marcia the endoscopy wasn't so bad. no bad after effects from mine.

I want to say I have had many successful chicken and dumplings in the past. Sort of light but just right soggy with gravied juices. Haven't made anything like that in years. Takes a family waiting to appreciate them to encourage me to make them.

As to all a good night, ''You're a better man than I, Gunga Din."

When Winn-Dixie was going out business, I bought a huge bottle of lemon-pepper marinade and had grilled lemon-pepper chicken Sunday for my in-laws. I had way too much chicken left over. So last night I made a lemon-pepper chicken soup. I used de-fatted chicken broth with the lemon-pepper added, then small pieces of potato and cooked them awhile, then half a bag of frozen mixed veggies and lastly, the deboned chicken. It is delicious, but perhaps a bit piquant for some tastes.

Morning everyone!! Man, I slept in - was awake at 4am and decided that I just couldn't get up - so I laid back down and must have fallen asleep again - now that is a wonder for me. But I feel behind now!! LOL

Aria - roses- I've only received them once! How lovely. Hmm, never had banana bread with cream cheese - will try that. I do like cream cheese on toast topped with green olives. However, once I start, I just can't stop with one piece - I pig down three or four. Not good for the diet.

Molly - ugh. all that digging and moving and then digging again. Good thing you have DS to give you a hand.

Bal - hope the dog situation turns out for you. We have a Paws for a Cause here where I live. In fact my friends daughter works there. I love hearing about all they do. It is a wonderful organization - helpful to so many.

Man Darius - that must be some huge table!! I can fit 6 around my table - if I add the leaves (is that how it is spelled?) I can fit ten. My kitchen is just not set up for a big one. When I have the whole gang over, we have to have three tables and then 4 at the bar. It would be glorious to have a humungus table to seat everyone! You sure have been into everything - I feel so dull compared to you..

Mary - I love yogurt - any kind too!! But I get the kind with aspertane in it and now worry about its effects on the body. What kind do you eat? I used to make my own - still have the yogurt maker - maybe I should dig it out.

My mom called last night after dinner and asked if the barber shop was open (step father needed a cut) - they came out - he didn't need one at all. I snipped a little and cut his eyebrows - I think they just wanted to come and visit. Mom and I played a mean game of scrabble - she beat me!! We have such a fun time with that game!

Well, time for a garden stroll - not much is in bloom, but I have TONS of buds on my brugs. And would you believe it is going to be in the high 80's today and frost this weekend!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I love yogurt just the plain one for dessert I put a teaspoon of blueberry jam in it or any other jam. it is a lot less expensive than buying the one aready made that way. My daughter who is a vegetarian mixes it with some soft tofu for her protein. I said to her, can't imagine not having bacon, hot dogs or a hamburgere lol so when she is here for dinner I have to make the likes of lasagna with vegetables only but must admit it is yummy but lots of work they way I make it, all the green vegetables with oinions and mushrooms.
she does eat fish so that helps.
Maria

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Maria - you DO NOT look 77 - not even close.

I'm just checking in....I was too nervous about my procedure (it's at 2 pm) that I knew work would be a wash - so boss said to take the whole day (I got a GREAT boss!). I've been making my vacation plans for next. Got flight, car and place to stay - so the major stuff is taken care of!

I'd love some of that banana bread - but can't eat anything now - until after the endoscopy. I ate a big breakfast though.

Well - gonna go check out other forums and relax.

Later!

Marcia
