I were jus a-kidden thar Julie.....there's no way I could have.....thanks for the new thread.

Glad you got out today which is really more than I did. Did a lot of nuttin' in the house and have nuttin' to show for it. It was all "behind the scenes" stuff.

Kisseys to all

My new washer is a Bosch we got it at Lowe's. DH found a 10% of coupon on the net and that helped witht the cost. I had/have a perfectly good extra heavy duty Whirlpool washer that is only 6 years old but. Ever since DH and his plumber buddy fixed our well last November we have run out of water too many times. Something we had never done in 29 years of living here. So DH solution, buy a washer that uses less water. @#%^@!

I guess I can live with the length time thing but every time I stand in front of it I start singing to myself "the wheels on the bus go round and round........" you get what I mean! It really gets scary when I realize how much Alzheimers there is on both sides of my family.

Got to tell about buying the washer. I had already spoken with a very helpful salesperson a couple of weeks ago and told him I would ask for him when I bought it. Well he was on vacation when I phoned to see if they had the washer in stock but the other person said that she would make sure 'Bob' got the credit. I arrived at the appliance area of Lowe's and only one clerk was working. She was talking to an elderly couple and a 30 something 'studly' was waiting nearby. I walked up to the desk to make my self know and went back to the washer. And waited. Next thing she was waiting on the 'young studly' giggling and smiling. I went back to the desk not being able to catch her eye. Back to the washer. Then a trip around the lighting area (need a new light in the new washroom which hubby added on when he decided we needed the more efficient washer.) Back to clerk and Mr. Studly, around the lighting again. Now I know a GOB, overweight, tired and not nearly as pretty as Mr. Studly would not be my first choice either but she is there to work, I think. So me who never complains or makes a fuss went to the front desk and waited for some help. Finally after watching 4 others standing around a manager type asks if I have been helped!!!!!!!!!!! I replied "No, not here or any where in this store tonight!" I explained that I wanted a washer, knew what kind, where I wanted to pick it up and the problem I was having with Miss Clerk and Mr. Studly!! I cannot believe I said that. Well finally washer is waiting for us and Mr. Manager type was going to have a talk with Miss Clerk.

Then when we go to pay for our stuff and remind the cashier of our washer he tries to tell us we already paid for it!!! It was tempting!! but we got it thru his head that we hadn't and we were ready to pay.........What an evening!

To top it off today every parent at market thought my miniatures were there for their children to play with, touch, drop and just mess with. Calgon take me away!

Sarv, started with a PC, then a short time later my niece needed to upgrade her G4 Mac to work on her Masters so I bought it from her. So huge and cumbersome for my little space, and it didn't burn dvd's. Then I got this little entry level iMac. Still don't know how to make it work very well but I love it. Get "odd" e mails but not all the trash I used to see on the PC. This is today's view.

The old one took up so much room. The biggest Mac help is the Apple Discussions forums. Mac supported, but forums are not by Mac employees.

Robert, where's the G4 you had before the iMac? Wanna sell it if you still have it?

Sarv, I never get any virus on my Mac, and I've had several Macs since 1987...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Darius, sold it to a student in the photo class at school almost a year ago. Shipping that 'anchor' up from L A in 3 boxes was over $100.00. Wish I had a nice little iMac for you though. How ya feeling ?

Joy, that lack of service at a Lowe's is surprising. I've always been happy with their service out here in the west. My problem has been with Home Depot and walmart. Both places thrive on misinformation, avoidance and discourtesy. Glad you finally did get the washer though. Sorry to hear of the well going dry.Is it a localized problem or just with your well?(maybe a longer straw??)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Robert, I have a G4, just that I can no longer make CD's to back up data. I can make music cd's, just not data. The problem is probably with the software, Toast Titanium 5.1.4, and no $$ to upgrade. It worked fine last year then I upgraded OS10 to 10.3.

I'd hate to upgrade the OS any further as this machine also has OS9 and I still have a couple of old programs (like Pagemaker) I cannot afford to upgrade that work on OS9 only. I'd hate to lose the ability to use them.

I lust after a flat (LCD) monitor like yours. My 17" CRT weighs a ton and takes up a lot of desk space!

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

Bal, I think it was that I interrupted a romance! We have always had good service at Lowe's.

The straw is 90' deep. DH and different friend lowered it about 8' after it was raised last year to get it out of the sediment. Thankfully we live in area with lots of lakes and one of the local municipals sells water cheap. We can get 300 gallons for $1.25. DH bought a tank for the back of the pickup and brings a load home every couple of weeks. One time he brought a load home just for my flowers, I had fun that day. Unfortunately, droughty weather sucked it all away in a few days. I have threatened to go to the water plant on one of our 95* plus days put a quarter in the machine and take a shower 60 gallons in about 2 minutes. Big chicken here.......so just thought about it.

Joy

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Out in garden today. Put in last of dayliles and the iris that have been waiting in temporary flats since summer of 04. Only one pod of daylily seeds to pick yet. May be almost caught up by the time I visit my sister--except the clean-up, moving of plants, weeding....I don't think I am done yet...drat!!!!!!!!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

....(music)...I WILL SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!...(music).... 'member that song?! Well, I did, and am I gonna hurt tomorrow! Sitting on a hillside for hours, getting wedgies and sore backs, walking forever!! in flip-flops, attempting to sleep curled up on two bus seats.... etc. etc. I intended to wear shoes and socks but DS didn't tell me he wanted to leave early, so while I'm flying around the house getting my pillow, blankie, socks, shoes, camera, lotion, and u name it, I musta dropped a sock, cuz I arrived at school with only one. That meant flip flops for the day. And I managed to sleep close to an hour on the ride back, in 10 to 20 min. spurts. lol

guess what? we got a FIRST in parade competition and a FIRST in field competition!! Whooohoooo!!! Six bands in our class! And we ranked 6th overall the classes with 21 bands. Pretty awesome!

'Truste!' zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............................

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

kooger- congrads on the wonderful band performance!! But all day in flip flops- I'd have blisters!!!

Bal and Darius - you both are so much more computer savey than I am. I have an old iMac, and although it has been a good old gal, I think she is on her hind legs - slowing down just like I am. I DON"T have any spyware programs installed on mine and that is worrysome to me. Could either of you help me in that area? Maybe I didn't get a virus - maybe just a glitch in the start up part as I fixed it quite easily.

Joy - Yikes- running outta water. That would scare me for sure. We had a new 4 in well put in and we have gushes of water now, but I water for days and always wonder if the supply is unlimited!! Glad you complained about the romance on company time....would have been fine if others weren't waiting for service!!

Decided last night to take a drive over to DS's house - all of us crawled in their big bed to watch tv. They live in a huge OLD stucco house that is always cold even in the heat of the summer. DS decided to make breakfast for dinner - man was it good. And his presentation was beautiful. Each plate was artfully prepared...I was major impressed!! DIL said he always serves his meals that way. It is funny because we always left the food on the stove and it was self serve when he grew up here! He does watch a ton of cooking shows.....he sure didn't get it from us!

Today I'm gonna bust butt and clean up this place before DH comes home from the hunting trip. We have DGS's birthday party at 6:30pm and I know he won't want to go, but he must! Still need to can up more grape juice too - no rest for the wicked they say!

off to work....

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

No, right here, sarv.....I didn't want to say anything but......hehehhe

Trying to get out and use the round up.......keeps sprinkling.....UGH....Instead of RU, I am going to have to use a machette by Tues....LOL

Sarv, if you have a Mac you probably don't have a virus. It's been my experience that all my friends with Macs don't get the viruses that folks [like me] who are running 'Uncle Billy's' microsoft technology get from the net. It seems that the virus inventors are only interested in crashing the programs microsoft has out there. No idea why that is.

Yesterday I had the worst time with my computor, couldn't get all of the threads on DG to come up, only parts would load and then it would be like a time out while waiting for the rest to show. then this morning, wandering the threads I found others were having problems yest at about that same time. So maybe it wasn't me/my computor after all. We'll see as today goes on.

Going to be another beautiful day here in high desert country, sun shine, no clouds and with warmth left from summer. I shall use the day to continue my sorting and putting away.... and when it gets too hot to do that I will take these piles of clothes off to the laundromat and come home with piles of clean stuff.

Wish I were a cook, I'd add something to the counter for munchies. Blooms

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's cold here this morning, colder than I thought it would get because it was raining yesterday and last evening we still had a lot of cloud cover. The mountains around us got a nice blanket of snow. This morning the thermometer says 30 and that is bad for the tomatoes I had planned to bring into the basement to ripen. I'll get down to the garden this afternoon and see what I can salvage. Have squash out there too and frost is not good for it. This may be one of those years when I cook, mash and freeze the squash rather than just being able to store whole ones in the basement for months.

Robert, I used to live at Sultan and between Monroe and Snohomish way back in the early 60's. One summer we went camping up by Monte Cristo and took the trail up to Cole Lake and another lake, and I also remember something called Big Four. There was a big meadow where our horses ate all night. We put hobbles on one, a bell on another and just turned them loose. We camped on a sandbar next to a stream. No picnic table, firepit, outhouse, just all natural back then. It was a memorable trip and I always thought I would like to go back but I haven't.

Gotta get moving, see ya later.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sarv, you probably need to run Norton Utilities, esp. "Disk Doctor" and "Speed Disk" which will clean up fragmentation which in turn will speed up the iMac. It's a stand-alone program that you boot from, so it can fix anything on the Mac.

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Mornin' all....

Didn't post yesterday cause DH and I spent all day at the Midsouth Airshow. It was fun - and the Blue Angels performed (a very DISAPPOINTING performance) - but what really stole the show was the 9 plane Canadian Snowbirds. They were amazing and did some really unusual stuff. Of course you have to get there early to get a good piece of land to sit on....then you have to see all the other performers because the Angels perform last. The other performers were aerobatic teams and Air Force plane demos. THOSE were awesome. Anyway - it was hot and hazy/cloudy (not good photo conditions) - and the Angels only performed like 15 minutes. Then it took us 1 1/2 hours to get OUT of the parking lot - and we waited to leave. On the way home, we got poured on - and realized that the Angels probably cut the performance short because that storm system was going that way.....so then we felt bad for fussin! LOL Came home, took shower and we both promptly fell asleep in front of the tv. Today we're going out to lunch and to see the movie "Serenity". We watch Firefly on SciFi - and are really anxious to see the movie.

That's all the news that is the news. We haven't look at any of our photos from yesterday yet. If we have any good ones - I'll post on the photo forum.......

Everyone have a good day.

Marcia

p.s. I have a first generation Mac if anyone wants to buy one! LOL - can't even imagine anyone wanting a 512 byte Mac - unless you just want to collect it. Maybe I could turn it into a planter!!!! HA!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Marcia, those first Macs are now worth some money as collectibles. I'd keep it if I were you. I had the first "component" Mac, a 68030, and sure wish I had kept it!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Blooms, I had trouble yesterday aft too. Wouldn't load.....not us......whew......

It is now black as night and raining like a SOB.......no Round Up today......Machette on Tuesday....dern

Maybe a movie this afternoon.....DH already asleep on the couch....

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Yep, like Hap said it's coming down cats and dogs.

We waited for the dawn rain to stop and it was looking good. Got on the job about 9 and the rains came again at one. Windy and hard cold rain. Blew our extension ladder off the house. Darned lucky it didnt hit a window.

We gave up trying to stay dry. Drop covers soaking wet, rain getting in the paint, paint washing off the walls.
Man, we shoulda stayed in bed.

But we did get first coat rolled on the house and most of it was dry by the time it rained.

Think I'll try to call my sis. I missed making the call this morning due to working.

I'll check back later.

Molly
:^)))

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Darius - where do I find "disk doc" or "speed disk" ? Can I download them from somewhere? HELP!!!
Things are actually pretty good now - whatever I did, seems to be working... wish you or Blooms lived closer to give me a hand.

Still haven't picked those stinkin grapes....I really need to...

Molly, I'm gonna be painting tomorrow - I'll be thinking of ya. Got some new plant shelves and want to give them a couple of coats before I use them. DH said he thought we should put them in the room where he sleeps- wow - good news for me!! Wait until all those lights turn on at 7am LOL he'll have a fit!!

Still nice weather here- almost freaky it's so nice out. High 70's for Oct is weird!!

BB- I love air shows. Blue Angels are my favorites- never seen the other ones. Everytime we go it is a major heat wave and dusty...come home burned and filthy. Haven't been for several years tho.

Brrr Mary, 30 deg- and SNOW - say it ain't so~! I am just NOT ready for that....

I was listening to some program and they were telling how land prices have skyrocketed in NO and other areas that were hit by the hurricanes. Seems so unfair- those poor people.

Time for another garden walk in this delightful weather!!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

HOW can land be worth more after it has been destroyed? And flooded, and moldy sewage and chemicals soaked into it?

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

MG, the Investors will raze the buildings, build new with ins. $$ and charge more rent.

Sarv, sending you some links via Dmail.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

And people wonder what is wrong with America. It is just WRONG for someone to make a profit from misery. Period.

I'm going to quit now, cuz I think I woke up crabby and I don't want to annoy or offend anyone.

mg

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

I was wondering the same thing, but maybe if you have an undamaged house in an area that didn't flood it would be worth a lot since there would be a housing shortage.

Ah fun Molly, trying to make a living while dodging rain showers and falling ladders!

Some of the clouds have lifted and yes I do see snow on the mountains around us, but it is at about 6-7000 feet up to 9,000. At lower elevations we had rain but it was cold all day yesterday with a high temperature of about 45.

Go over to the Vegetable Gardening fourm here on DG and take a look at my garden in a thread called End of Season Lazy. Can somebody hyperlink that in here please so it is easy? Thanks. And now I need to go see how much of the tomato and squash crop can be salvaged.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

MaryE, one of my friends (from a Yahoo List) sold and settled on her house near Gulfport 2 days before Katrina. It survived with minimal damage and is now worth almost twice what she sold it for 5 weeks ago. Simple demand vs. availability. Pity.

I knew I should have left the computer on....took me a half hour to catch up. Usually I check in as I pass by, but have been busy...trying to unload the sofas....LOL Guess nobody wants an 8 year old leather sofa....they are nearly indestructible. Hate to just donate it to a stranger if there's any one in the family that can use it. DH doesn't want it back in the den. Then, if someone does decide to take it, they will all decide they want it...

It's awful trying to paint and dodge raindrops at the same time, Molly!! Or to roundup the weeds.....although I have stayed out in the garden many times just because I wanted to finish a patch, or maybe because I just don't have good sense. I've also planted bulbs during a snow fall....figuring it was my last chance! I've got over a hundred to put in this fall, but I won't be waiting for snow to do it.

We must have dug out thirty bunches of those orange ditch lilies from the spot over the septic thing, I truly hate them and keep trying to convince DH not to put them anywhere I can see them. I might have to Roundup them like I did the wild violets he decided would be a good addition to a flower bed . Oh >look honey, all the little violets died....must have been the voles.....mwaahahahaha

Sarv, aren't you sitting on that check from your parents? Sounded just about the right size for a new computer....Bet DH didn't think about the automatic lights when he suggested his bedroom for the plant shelves....DS put on a lovely breakfast...is he making up for the birthday faux pas?

Went to Penney's Warehouse this afternoon and found a ultra suede slipcover for my fat reading chair. I'll have to find fabric to cover the ottoman, but that won't be a problem, I'll just get a brown/tan print. Only $15, and found two pairs of jeans for $5 each, and a sweater for $10. Man do I love a bargain!!

All day in flipflops, Kooger,,,they would have had to carry me back to the bus! What an exhausting day. Now, what did you learn from this? LOL Better you than me.........

mg, I never wake up crabby. I just let him sleep.

What's for dinner........? Once again, I have no clue. Freezer's crammed full and my brain has stalled out. Seems like anything I feel like making, we just had in the past week or so .........

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

OK M5, how are we going to get your sofa it Dubuque? I am in desperate need of a sofa. Especially one that is indestructible.

The "bear" is staked out on the floor watching football and dozing. Neither one of us is getting anything done, and frankly, I think the kids are hiding.....

mg

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

M5...don't turn this off.

I didn't check it yesterday for awhile because I forgot to put it on my Watch list....It took me over an hour to catch up on all the gab. But, I loved every minute of it.

Tonight is corned beef and cabbage nite. YUM....and easy. Got my taters and carrots ready to go, so I AM DONE.... Yippee. No dessert, just maybe a cookie.....or two.....hehehe

Will check in later,

Hap

Cube steak, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots and some fresh tomatoes will be our supper whenever I get up off my duff!!

Hap, I have a miniature shop at our local farm and craft market 'The Windmill'. We are in our 19th year, my DH had a lot to do with it during the first 14 years then things started to get 'political' and he backed away. He gave his heart and soul to the place the first few years. I even have a family picture when our son was just 7 months old........but dad was missing!! I called myself a Windmill widow! The name of my shop is 'Little Things of Joy'. Here is a link to the market site hope I am not doing a no no by linking to it. Not trying to promote myself, it is a fun way to spend a Saturday in the country. If I do something wrong PLEASE post and let me know. -Joy

Joy That is too COOL! My mom would have bought you out in a half a heartbeat. She loved minis of all kinds. She had a doll house that had a nursery set up that was so real. Teeny tiny packages of Pampers with one set out on the changing table all ready. One of her biggest disappointments was me not sharing her enthusiasm, but at that point in my teenage years, I was only interested in horses. She did manage to combine our interests by scoping out any mini shop where ever I was showing that week.

Thanks for the lovely trip down memory lane!

M5, love the basket of veggies? I'm forever putting something in a basket, the customers can't seem to resist!! lol. I have sold the mini mugs for about 15 years everyone loves to look for their names and when they find one that they have never found before, well you know I am in business to make money!

Thanks for the sweet words mg, most of my customers are gobs or soon to be. Everyone thinks minis are for little girls, well I am still a little girl at heart.

Here is a double room box I did for a Secret Sister at church. She loves to quilt and is in nursery all the time.

It cleared up for about an hour, now back to intermittent rain, with the sun shining. Think I'll dash out and collect seeds. Haven't been out there in a couple days doing anything good. Bet theres a lot of seeds.

Our freezer and larder are running on the bare side right now. As wonderful as my DS is about fixin' the meals, when he pulled out the cooked shrimp, I suggested how he cook it and you know what????? He refused. Said I could. When I think of the years of putting meals on the table..........hmmmm. I guess since he is of the weaker sex and he may feel he is being taken for granted just a bit, I spose I could put together something.

There is something good to be said of all the rain. #1 I was getting mighty tired of working this week. #2 Those mater plants I got on Friday from ZZtopsoil love it. #3 the pond was getting a little low on water. So the rain is a very good thing!!!!

I better go check on a recipe and gather a few more seeds.

LOVED the one about not waking up grumpy LOL LOL

DIL didn't make the breakfast - DS did (she doesn't cook..)

Oh, I am a happy camper!! I went on ebay again and it again screwed up my computer. BUT this time I wrote down how I fixed it and wallhla - all I had to do was to delete cookies. I'm so proud of myself!!

Nothing planned for din din. We're going to DS for the birthday bash, but that will only be cake and ice cream. When DH gets out of the shower, he may decide to whip something up - I'm NOT cooking!!

DH got home from deer camp- didn't see a single deer LOL. But had a good time. He told me that he got in the stand Sat morning and got sick and lost his cookies- told me he had some home made kahula and it didn't sit well. Probably downed the whole bottle was the problem. Will he ever learn....

For DGS birthday we got him a nice drill from Sears, a ton of drill bits and a load of wood to make something out of. I think he will love it - he's a hands on kinda kid already. DIL told me she is worried that her mother and sister will get in a fight at the BD party - they are total white trash. I stay clear of them...Mother is one of these people who heap praises on you "oh I LOVE your hair, or dress, or car etc" When I first met her I thought= hey thats a nice thing to say, but since I've been around her, she says the same thing to everyone - total fake....then laughs about them when they leave. Not my kinda person..at all!

Well, time to get my old clothes off and something decent on!!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Joy, that sounds like a wonderful place. It's not far from where I hail from, Rochester, NY. Know your area but moved from NY about 23 years ago. Go back to see my 98 yo father, 2 sons, 2 DIL, and 3 grandkids. Hit there about twice a years. Wish they could come down here once in a while......never mind, mother, keep your mouth shut.....just cause DIL don't like to travel,.....except a 5 hour car ride to HER mother....whoa.....never mind................

Hello, here's Hap again.....counter person has just left the building....lol

Off to dinner.....see ya

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

APPLES, APPLES, APPLES here!
I am busy making applesauce and an apple cake, hum! Have a scoop of sauce and a piece of yummy apple cake. My grandmother had sent me this same apple cake when I was in college and to this day, I love it!
It started to rain Friday and we only a little break yesterday. Woke up to a nasty wet, cold, windy day and darn! I had laid in bed thinking about the retaining wall I need to get build before the rains really come. I waited so it would rain a bit so the ground wasn't so pure clay, but.... We had too much rain now.
So am inside cooking as someone above mentioned, when the weather turns cold, you cook and eat more. Or was it hearty? Whatever. I don't really cook, I like to bake more so....
I just love minatures and so does my mother. We always like to look at them when we go shopping.
Molly, slow down, watch out for the rain, take it easy! hehe
Sarv, hope you get your computer fixed. You know, Dell has very good deals of $299 for computers and they are just fine. We have them at work and my son has one, and not problems with them.
Well, need to go take out that apple cake now, so later,
Carol (DR)
