defoecat, best of luck with the macular degeneration. Hope that they are able to treat it for you and save your vision. I think the treatments for it are improving; so here's keeping my fingers crossed.
To all of you with GB problems, I can only offer my sympathy. So far I've not had to experience it. Hope I never do, but .... I also eat gobs of Tums, but the fruit-flavoured ones as a painless way to get more calcium.
Ann
Coffee and...Part 33...! :-D
sorry, Defoe, I edited the mistake!
I also have macualr degeneration, the dry type, left eye is totally out of commission accept for perivial vision, the other eye is on its wa y now
Anybody going to be in chat tonight? I'm already getting my snacks and sodas together, lol.
mg
Me again. Sarv, I think you typed in the wrong word. Juicer steamer got me the page, and there is one of the Mehu-Liisa ones on the page. Try again.
Mg, I had to laugh at the diagnosis being 2 problems, one born 7 mo later. My MIL thought she had some long lasting type of flu, but her doctor told her she would be fine in a few months. The result was my husband. She had been told years before that she would never be able to have more children so when she was sick to her stomach she was just sure it was something else.
Defoecat and Aria, I'm sorry to hear about your failing eyesight. It's such a pretty world and such a shame to have it disappearing. I hope better treatments are found for it soon.
She WAS a long lasting flu all right. About a week after I got the news, I started getting sick all the time. That finally quit 2 weeks after she was born. I've heard of morning sickness, but AFTER delivery?? I had to get IV'ed frequently the last 8 weeks.
Best form of birth control I've ever found.

Dear Friends….No news may be good news re the lymph node. The lung doctor showed it to me on the films, and it’s NOT in a good place to go in and do a biopsy. I’d have to have a bronchoscopy with a needle biopsy and he thinks that where it is makes it unlikely they could even get to it to do a biopsy. (It’s right under my sternum bone, on the outside of the lung and between the pulmonary arteries.)
He also says it looks like it hasn’t grown in 3 months, so even if it’s malignant, it’s a slow grower. The decision we made today is to watch it another 3 months… so I have another CT Scan scheduled for Dec. 27 and then we will compare the films once again
If it has grown, the only option is chemotherapy. It cannot safely be surgically removed by it’s location.
Sigh.
Darius, that actually sounds like good news. If he was concerned at all he would have started the chemo now.
((((HUGS))))))
Hap
Darius, let's hope that's good news. I'll keep my fingers crossed that all is OK in 3 months.
Ann
Darius, the best for you and your health
Maria
That certainly sounds encouraging. Dr.s always found spots on my step mom's lungs, but they never developed into anything. We suspected she might have had TB in her youth which healed and left scarring, but it was never confirmed. She was 86 when she died. Sometimes it's better to know too little than too much.
Busy day. Got three estimates for DIL, not one was under $1200 and the kid who bumped her parked car doesn't want to go through his insurance. He might change his mind when he sees the cost. She's so softhearted, she wants to let him off with less. I told her if she did I was going to charge her $500 for my "services' because it was all his fault, he left the scene, the neighbor got his license # and the cops tracked him down. Let him off....not in my book!
Went to Sam's and got out without breaking the bank, but got a big 70 bulb pkg of white daffys and pink tulips, for $15. And some books. And a jug of fabric softener, and a four pack of spot cleaner for the carpet. LOL and a huge pack of double roll TP! Then I went grocery shopping and believe me, my feet are giving me a sad song tonight.
They finished siding the garage last Friday, the guy called today and wants to know when he can pick up the check. They were supposed to start in spring. Sure are a lot faster on collecting than they are on performing.
Ham and beans and fried spuds for dinner, quick and easy. Too pooped to cook much. Fell asleep on the sofa after I got home, couldn't keep my eyes open, so I suppose I won't sleep well tonight. (meet you at 4 am sarv??) It was gorgeous out today, and nice cool breeze tonight so that should help. I can always get up and play backgammon.....
Night Gracie
Viola Ann, Aria, thanks for your commisseration?? As long as I go as often as he wants, and keeps on top of it, I'm sure that I will be fine for years to come!!
Darius, I vote with Happy and others, If he thought it was "growing" he would have recommended chemo right away. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers the same.
Tonight DH and I were going fishing, discussed it while at DM, she is 86 on a walker and can barely make it throught the house, anyway, she says I want to go, as she used to fish all the time. So we decided that we would go to a neighbor's lake, which you can drive to and take her along. I drove my car??? through the field and arrived okay. Took a chair for her, helped her out of the car and she sat on the bank and watched us fish. The water level is so low in most ponds and lakes due to our drought that it was unsafe for her to get closer to fish. We stayed about an hour, caught just little fish, (what I call cat fish, the kind you feed to your cats!!) then decided to come home. On the way home, she said that she enjoyed that more than anything that she has done for a long time. Folks, I have a feeling that she won't be here much longer, so I will do everything I can to make her happy. You know you only have 1 mom, and sometimes even 86 years sounds like a short time.
Sorry got sappy on you, but I don't know what I will do when I loose her.
Well, I am going to do some reading, then on to bed, have slept well for the past 3 nights, so Sarv and Meezer, may meet you here at 4:00.
M5, that is a pretty good deal on the bulbs. Wish I could find that good of a deal. Our Costco didn't have much this year to choose from unfortuantely.
MG, you didn't bring those sodas to the chat room tonight. You brought BEER! Naughty girl!
Darius, hope everything keeps going good for you. But I would definitely get a 2nd opinion, just for your peace of mind.
Carol (DR)
Did so much catch up reading I can't think what I was going to write.
Except that on Sept 25 at 12;35 M5 posted a picture that obviously has a tractor in it and yet she continues to deny the existence of said tractor. ROFLOL ~Blooms
Well, I am up early again, okay Sarv and Meezer, where were you at 4:00 a.m.? Every time I am prepared to declare my arm better, it hurts and gets me out of bed. This morning at 3:45 a.m. Since I couldn't sleep, I've made Apple Dumplings, so belly up to the counter and grab one while it is still warm!!
I am going to get everything ready to go to Ky RU today. Have lots of plants to take, plus, will be putting fundamentals in the car, chair, cooler etc. Plus, since it is cool here, plan to do some weeding also. Laundry is on the agenda also. So it sounds like a busy day. Usually when I plan like this, something happens and plans fall by the way side, sure hope not, as all of this needs to get done.
Well in order to get done, I've got to get started!!
snoore - slept late for me - 6:30am - almost unheard of!!
Went to the funeral parlor last night (co-worker lost her mom) I went with 4 other gals - we laughed and laughed - got lost and showed up 1 1/2 hrs later. Then had to drive all the way home - stopped at Wendys and got their new ice cream thingy (butterfinger sprinkles on top of frosties) smacking my lips. It was good, but at 9:30 at night, it rolled around in the tum tum a lot!!
Mary - I did find the ebay page- I see they have one mehu liisa on bid. I've never bid on anything before. I will need to check around and see if it is actually cheaper to go ebay or just order it. Did up14 qts of juice, but a good 1/4 of it is skin/pulp stuff. Oh well, something is better than nothing I guess.
Aria, I don't mind a bit that you gave credit to someone else for me eating all those scones. I was embarassed at myself!!
Darius - I too think that 'watching' is good news. Now, take care of yourself. How did the trip with you sister go? Any wild tales to tell us???
I worry about mac deg myself. If I had to lose one of my senses, I am not sure which one I would be willing to lose - since my taste buds are pretty well fried, I think I've lost enough already!! I need to get myself to the eye doc, my vision has gone major downhill - I really struggle to read now and I can't give that up!! Think I just need a boost in the strength of my glasses. Last time I went the bill was over $800 bucks - how can a little piece of metal cost that much??
M5- I cannot go to Sam's without dropping 100 bucks. I try and stay away!! I do all my pics there tho. I looked at those bulbs too only I wanted just one pack of muscari - don't need any daffys. Man, I wouldn't let that kid off- she is already giving him a break by not going thru the insurance. DO the crime- pay the fine.
Tonight I'm going out to din din with a bunch from my former work - it will be fun. However I hopped on the scales yesterday and was absolutely shocked - I am up 7 lbs. Could this be from working out again?? Today is my mid week day off from the work out joint - I'm gonna take some cuttings. Weather is supposed to take a turn down - rain and in the 50's. I am never ready for it!
Good Morning everyone...
I've been out of commission here the past few days. I think I caught something from my DGD and ended up in "la-la land" for three days. Not sick enough to stay in bed, and definitely not 'with it' enough to get a single thing done. Yesterday I *tried* to run the vac...managed to only get down the hallyway. On my way past the sofa IT pulled me down and a slept for a couple of hours. LOL
Happy Birthday (belated) to all those I missed.
Darius, I'm not sure what to say or how to feel about your news other than I hope it will all turn out well for you.
We're supposed to have temps way too close to frost tonight to use up any more daytime sitting here at the computer. Hope you all understand why I'm not making individual responses. ;-)
TTYL
~julie~
Carol,
I didn't bring the beer, Molly brought the beer. I brought the Jack and Pepsi, and I'm paying for it today. I had 4 mixed drinks over 3 hours and I won't do it again. Urgh.
*going to find a rock to sleep under now*
mg
Boy, I'm checking in pretty late today....got busy early and finally decided it was time to check in. Hope there's still some apple dumplings left because that teeny little cereal bar didn't do much for me. Probably the only remnant of my childhood is my prodigious appetite!
Hey Blooms, any time you want to drop by and do tractor work, feel free, I'll provide 3 hots and a cot, because it would be worth a fortune to snap photos of you riding that tractor to get my garden chores done. Watch out for those pedals though, you can get a nasty crack on the ankle if your foot slips!! LOL
Wonderfully cool sleeping weather last night. Humidity has finally dropped to a comfortable level. I was thinking of getting those bulbs in but I should probably wait until it's a little cooler so they don't decide to start growing. Last year I was out digging holes in December...good thing I have that long bulb planter so I don't have to crawl around on the ground to do it. The Sam's bill was just under a $100 which I consider a very good shopping trip. Only one free food sampler though, they only do that on the weekend. And it was Hot Pockets, phooey.
I need to call my Dd this morning too, she was all down in the dumps yesterday because her grooming calls have slowed down. I said it might be because of school starting and people being careful with their budgets, and then made a couple of useless suggestions that didn't cheer her up much. Then she called later and said she was in a better mood and wasn't going to give up so easily. If she can make it, I'll take her to lunch today and maybe a movie. She's such a hard worker, I want to see her succeed at this.
Dcat, I'm sure your mom was overjoyed at having the chance to go "fishing". Cherish the moments. It's hard finding things for them to do when they have trouble getting around..and this was a perfect choice. Cat fish....giggle....made me laugh. Have a great time at the RU.
Better get off my duff and do something.....Anyone else for a tractor ride?
Edited to add: Debauchery and booze while I was sleeping, and nobody woke me up!! Dang!!

M5........where did you learn that expression, "three hots and a cot"?
Hap
Beautiful morning. Quite cool and foggy. I love foggy mornings for picture taking. Really need to get out to where there is some great scenery though, but often by the time I get there the fog has burned off. Apple Dumplings for breakfast , what a wonderful treat. Hope to hear about the puppy today or tomorrow. In my ecstasy over hearing we appear to be "suitable parents" I neglected to ask about the price. Been checking the Shelters and Sheltie Rescues for months without finding the right companion. Close one time, beautiful male blue merle, but he was too big, about 18 inches. Gotta go out this morning and see if I can find stuff to make a modified hoop-house to keep the brugs in over the winter. Gout is gone and the shot in the knee helped a lot. No more excuses for lollygagging now! Got on the chat line once but couldn't figure out how to send anything, being something of a cyber-moron. Marshall's is having a 40% off sale on Vanity Fair nighties today only. A good 15 mile drive there, but that's her brand and even though we went out for a great prime rib birthday dinner she didn't get to open a present. Two days late should be OK though, and after all, look at the money I saved!
Sarv, the 7# is undoubtedly from working out too hard. You know that muscle weighs more than fat, so that must be all muscle. You no longer need the 2X4 lol. need to have new lenses this week too. Afraid to guess what that will cost, even though I bought the frames at a business close-out months ago.
Darius glad to hear the scan results. Frequent comparisons should tell a lot. Hope everything goes well for you.
Alooo mateys!!! What a wonderful thread you have going here. I'm so enthralled reading about your days and what each of you have been or are up to. I'm new to DG and I'm LOVING every minute I spend here!!! I hope you don't mind, but I'd love to join your forum and participate a bit.
I've started gardening again after many years of working graveyard shift and not being able to spend the time it requires. I've recently cut my work schedule back to Part Time, the first since 1974 that I've not worked full time and I'm in heaven! I roll in my yards, play with my flowers and plantings, get up in the mornings (when I'm off) ready to greet the day looking forward to seeing what has sprouted overnight or how something is faring from earlier planting. I can't believe how fulfilling it's been to plant some pretty flowers and shrubs and see them grow. I've built two planters this season and they've come out spectacularly. When I see a slug or snail near anything much less on it, I get annoyed and want to do something horrible to the little critter for even considering munching on MY plants! *LOL*
I hope no one minds if I join in the brekky club and post a little something once-in-a-while. TTFN and may each of you have a wonderful day.
M5....yeh, it's the slammer....I learned it from when I was the chef at the only soup kitchen in Ft. Lauderdale....I think that it was the only soup kitchen in the country that had a Certified Executive Chef at the helm. LOL
Boy, did I learn a lot about life there.....actually, too much info....
Hap
Good morning. Welcome Babs, we love to have new folks come in. Grab a cup of coffee and help yourself to whatever goodies are on the counter and just feel right at home. Are you a native Northwesterner or a transplant? Both my DH and I were born in Wash. state, he in Anacortes and me in Tacoma. ER nurse sounds like you must have seen just about everything in the way of emergencies at least once. The darndest things really do happen. That's a nice planter bed. Do you have more pictures to show us?
Darius, I think the wait and watch approach is good news. Maybe it is just a scar from a bout with pneumonia?? We all breathed a sigh of relief anyhow.
Today my horses get new shoes. The farrier is due here in about an hour and will be done about 1pm. This is the last set of shoes for the year as my ride season will be over at the end of October. Then the horses get to rest for a few months before we start all over again about the end of March. My competitions start in March but the horses will need shoes before then so I can get them in shape.
I have to see how many green beans I can get off my slightly frosted plants, maybe will call my neighbor to see if she wants enough for a few dinners. The corn leaves are crunchy when I have walked through to pick corn for dinner, but so far the ears of corn are ok. We only had one light frost a few nights ago. There is plenty of work to be done in the flower beds and today is a beautiful day for doing stuff outside.
Take care everyone, count your blessings.
Yeh, HI BABS...welcome. I usually just lurk here, but I am here. Welcome.
Hap
Well...I was very busy over the weekend and didn't have time to keep up with all of - you sure are a gabby bunch! I quickly scanned through posts, but I know I probably missed lots of important and juicy stuff.
I'm trying to get motivated today. My sleeping schedule really got "off" this past week, and I really want a nap. We hosted Captive Free West Lakes (for more info see link: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/540406/) and had a wonderful time at the program and getting to know the team. I did start painting my kitchen cupboards last Friday. It's only a "look better/cleaner" fix until we can afford new cupboards.
Darius, I pray the three months goes quickly, so you have peace of mind after your next scan.
Hi Babs! Welcome to our "Brekky Club". Of course we don't mind you joining up with us...the more the merrier! That's a gorgeous bed you built there. Gave me some ideas of what to do with certain 'uncooperative" corner in *my front yard.
Well...I was outside moving all the houseplants and tender coleus into the shed for the night...then it started to rain...I was getting a bit damp and the coughing and chills came back SOooooo, I'm in the house. Came in to find that DH has started a great big pot of homemade chili. Should be ready to sample about now. Grab a bowl...there's crackers, grated cheddar, diced onions and extra chili seasoning on the counter if need some. (MMmmm, mmmm, mmm...perfect day for it here!)
~julie~
Hi Babs, glad to have you, just make yourself at home. We talk about just about everything here. All comments, suggestions, complaints welcome. Got problems, there's always someone here with advice.
Okay, who was responsible for the debauchery and booze? Where did you congregate and why wasn't I invited? Morningayle, have you come out from "under your rock" yet?
Well I have gotten a lot accomplished today. First went out to pull some weeds. Then took cuttings and got them potted, got all my plants ready for the Ky RU. Cleaned inside of my car and washed windows. DH then washed it for me. Then DH and I cleaned the garage. It gets in such a mess, so just mainly straightened and swept.
I am in now making things to take to DMIL's tonight. This is her 87th birthday, and everybody is coming for a pot luck. She is really going down hill fast. So this will be a big celebration.
Well, since I didn't sleep well last night, after I finish in the kitchen, I may just take a little nap, Julie, do you think my couch can reach out and grab me?
Will check in with you chatter bugs later.
Welcome, Babs. and hello to everyone! That is all about the time I have have a Dr.Appointment in a short while but waiting for some one who should be here by now and all the time I am trying to prepare dinner for one of my daughters and husband who are coming to eat here with me, hope I am home by the time they show up
Maria
Welcome from across the Bay Babs.
Got the nightie, surf green, no lace or frills around the neck, just what she likes. Saved $11.01 on it and the 34 mile trip only cost about $3.25 so there was really a $ 7.75 savings. Did stop at her workplace on the way back to take her some lilies and show the ladies Tinkerbelle. (they always like her visits) Then the lumberyard to check on the plastic fittings for the proposed hoop-house. A profitable morning in many ways. Such a beautiful day I'd better get out and clean up some of the fading blooms and seed-heads. "but first" , need to trim out the new corner window, after I take down 2 cedar wall boards, but first 4 ceiling boards need to be removed, but first 3 overlapping boards have to come down to get the 4 out to get the 2 wall boards down so I can measure and fit the window trim. One of remodeling's many pleasures. But then it really is 12:15 and a body shouldn't start vast projects with half vast ideas on an empty stomach.
Ciao, or is it chow? time
Welcome, Babs, to both DG and Julie's kitchen, where there's always sumpin' to munch and an ear [or a dozen] to listen to whatever you've got to say. That's a great garden you built there, right pretty. Am glad to hear you've given urself some breathing room. that's hard stuff, emergency room work.
Be careful though, or someone might threaten the hoosegow just for pointing out a little toy tractor. LOL M5, ur like me - I pick up so much background knowledge from my wide range of reading. Everything from corn flakes box to encyclopedia.
Did not know that referred to jail time until Hap pointed it out. thought she meant like the hired hand in the bunkhouse. I might go for that, but think me legs too long for the size of the tractor. lol
It's raining again, amazing! just a shower, but we had one yest afternon, and sometime last night and now another'n. wonderful! My gardens will be so happy for it. total won't come to more than half an inch most likely [yes from all three showers] a half inch all at once becomes a gully washer around here.
Son finished installation of the trim around the bathroom window this morning. That's the last thing needs doing in there. another phew! for him. He's tipped the sill just enuff for water to run off into the tub and still flat enuff to sit things on if I want. Also installed all the knobs on the cabinets in the kitchen, they finally came in down at the hardware yesterday. And the trim piece under the upper display cabinet went in place... looks like it came with it, he is so pleased. So almost totally done in that room too.
Next comes the outside of the house, starting with new sunroom steps. The ones that are there were 'temporary' throw togethers made of plywood for a movie/commercial set some time ago. [DS works for them when they come to town]
I'm the gal who holds the other end of the trim, shelf, door, or whatever while DS puts it properly in place - these days that's my job. LOL ~Blooms
Bal, that was a great read... and know all about them 'butt firsts'
Greetings Babs, grab a cuppa and share our daily ditherings, always something going on.. I usually check in a couple times a day, just to keep up. Sometimes there are so many postings, I lose track, and have to scroll up so that I don't forget to answer a question or make a sassy remark to someone, or say happy birthday. Miss a day, and there goes an hour catching up. Feel free to donate cyber no-calorie goodies to share, but be careful, I posted a pic of an apple pie once and somebody cyberphotoed a big chunk right out of it.
Raining again. ;-)
Welcome Babs, I'm a bit of lurker but watch out or someone will get you to answer them back and then you are in.
Darius, I know waiting is hard but we are all here for you to vent at or us just give you a good kidding when needed. ((()))
Bal, I am so lost!! but I guess it is a guy thing and the only thing I did understand was not to work on an empty tummy! So glad your joints are feeling better
I have an Olympian Club meeting tonight and thought I would bring some goodies to munch on as we watched a video on how to reach out to our kids. I need half of these so.......don't make me have to bake another batch! lol. Wait a minute there is one missing and I haven't even posted the pic yet!!
Joy
Welcome Babs = did I read that you work in an emergency room? Oh man, do we have the medical questions for you - now about my sore arm... LOL
I've had a totally worthless day - sat on my hinny and read - I've read two books so far this week!! And of course along with reading comes munching. grrr now it's gonna be 10 lbs.
My computer is giving me fits. It was ok until I went on ebay. Darius, now what do I do? It won't let me into my mail the regular way, I have to use yahoo and i hate that. I need major help I think! It keeps freezing up on me.
Weather here is taking a turn for the worse - rain, wind tonight (18 hrs of it) but warm next week they say. DH and I cut the grass as he is leaving Fri for deer camp.
Never did get that grape pie made - maybe tomorrow between the raindrops I can pick some more grapes and make one.
Joy- are those brownies?? Plop on a scoop of ice cream and a dollop of hot fudge and I'll take one!! Diet can start over tomorrow.
Yup, forgot to tell what they are.......I've got the ice cream but you will have to find your own hot fudge. If you do, send some this way!
Sarv????
Deers go to camp now?
Hap
I have a whole jar of Dove hot fudge topping.....slide those brownies over here....on second thought, when did I buy that jar and how come it hasn't been opened yet?? I don't generally worry about shelf life for chocolate since it doesn't last long enough to spoil.
Making shrimp creole for dinner. Haven't done it in ages. Was just checking in and saw brownies................screeched to a stop!
Sure deer go to camp, skunks get scent, and bunnies don't carrot all.
Sorry.
Not really.
It's raining here too, sarv, and only 48 degrees at 4:30 pm. I hope we don't get an early fr__t!
Whoo Hoo!! Hi Babs! Another Gobette for me to play with! Please, please be a gobette.
Aaah Joy, the perfect thing to help my headache, chocolate! I firmly believe there is NOTHING in my life that cannot be made better by chocolate. (I seem to remember saying that last night in chat, lol)
The rock had been crawled out from under. It's raining here again too, and it is cold! Brrr. Me, the one that is always hot, I turned the furnace on, can you believe it? It's supposed to get to 37* here just for tonight, so I'm going to be hauling pots into the garage. I'm going to try to rig a blanket around my trellis since my mgs are still blooming strong. That should prove to be interesting. BABS, do you make housecalls?
M5, do you know where the fairgrounds in Waukesha are? Is there a Army Reserve Center next to it? If I'm thinking of the right place, I have a horse vs helicopter story to tell you, lol. BTW, "carrot"? ugh!
Blooms, does your DS travel? Huh? Huh? Maybe teach lessons? I'm wondering how much plane tickets would be for your DS and Bal.
Bal, Did you get anything done? Or did you but first yourself into nothingness? I started to clean in the kitchen, but first I had to check DG, and I've been here ever since. If I keep up with this "butt first", I'll end up moonin the whole world, LOL! Did you hear on the pup yet? Hmmm,,,,Tinkerbelle. Cinderella? Maybe I'll dig thru Jenna's movies for names....tee hee.
Defoecat, Can you pack me to take to the RU? I haven't had the pleasure of one yet and I can't wait. Iowa's is next spring and I'm already making lists of what I can take to trade since I don't have much plant wise yet. Yummm Apple Dumplings, any left?
Sarv, late to a funeral? Wendy's treat sounds delish. Maybe tomorrow... Ebay!! Run a spyware program!! Ebay is awful for that!
Julie, I have a magic sofa too! Innocent and unsuspecting me walks by it and it just leaps up and grabs me, forces me down onto the ever so comfortable cushions and holds me hostage for several hours at a time! Dh says it never does it to him, but I think the sofa is in cahoots with his recliner! Big pot of chili sounds really good tonight. It's shiver weather.
Mary, Farrier Day! My dogs used to love the "treats" afterwards.
Jas, I get my days and nights switched really easy when my meds are out of kilter. Actually, I used to be a night owl before meds, lol.
'nuff for now
