Morning Glories 2005 #22

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Ron - thanks for the link. That first picture by Onalee (that's where I got my seeds) is the same color mine were yesterday morning when I took the picture. I think the flash was a bit much for it - the color in the picture was not what I saw in person.

Fujimo Momo has been my heaviest blooming JMG. After the first few flowers, which were about 5", they have gotten smaller and most are 3.5" to 4".

Another view of the same trellis as above. One Asuka has crawled over from another trellis, so you can see an occasional Magenta/purple bloom. The blooms are heavy on both sides of the trellis.

Asuka is my largest bloom. Here you can see it's size next to Fujimo Momo.

Asuka varies the most in color of any of my JMG. Sometimes very magenta and other times very purple or a blend of the two colors.

This is my favorite. I'm still calling it Asuka NOT since I have not found a name for it.

Akathoukinounni and the Tye Dye one are both doing very well yet too.

This one surprised me! Potofgold mailed it to me in a trade and it was just a little 6" rooted stem with no leaves that she had cut back and wrapped in a damp paper towel and baggie. I have always heard that morning glories don't like to be transplanted, but I potted it up and now just a few weeks later it is blooming. It is suppose to be Roman Candy, but looks somewhat different than the photos in the database. I will try to get a better photo with the next bloom.

Ron,
I've been growing Merremia dissecta [A perennial for me], for a few years, but your bloom is so much prettier than mine.
I haven't taken photos of mine in a while, and need to capture a prettier picture as this really is a nice MG.

lincolnitess - Your Fuji No Momo looks very healthy and your "Asuka" is very "Asuka" looking...seems like alot of people have gotten blooms from their "Asuka" that have turned out to look like something else...the "Roman Candy" may not be showing full pigmentation if that is one of the first blooms...but I'm so glad you mentioned about the plant being sent to you and that it obviously has been transplanted very successfully...I have never had any problems transplanting MG's...even full grown vines...
I am very interested in some seeds from your Asuka NOT...D-mail me and we'll work something out...

Emma - The blooms on yours definitely look different...especially that there is no reddish to the center of the throat...do yours always have a non-pigmented throat(?)...if you can post some pictures of the sepals and seedpods,I would very much like to see them...also,does your vine have hair on the stems(?)...I can't see the curly stamens on yours...are the stamens yellow and curly(?)...

wow!!!! i was lucky this year just to get my moonvines blooming. DRought

all the pics are so pretty!!!!!

Ron,
I haven't paid too much attention to this vine, and also have not taken many pictures. All I remember is that the throat is more of a 'Pale Pink'. Let me go back to 2003 photos and see what I can find. In the meantime, here is photo that I just took that may help some.

Ron,
there are also quite a few buds on the vine now, so I'll watch for blooms and get better photos. Here is one of the buds that I just took photo of.

Here is the only other photo that I have of Merremia dissecta
that I just cropped and enlarged.

Ron,
LOOK AT THIS THROAT
This is a first bloom for this vine with seeds from a 'Plum Frost' 2005 seed that was
A Silky 'Pale Pink-Lavender with White Picotee edge'
that I grew out again this year
That grew back 'True', as best I can tell.
Need to compare these photos with Mother blooms.
This bloom has much more of a shimmer than you can tell in the photo.

Can't wait for the next bloom.

Another first bloom from 2005 Rose Red [from Henka Blue Type] seeds.
This one did not grow back 'True', but is it ever awesome!

One more - but have BUNCHES yet not posted of other new and different vines just starting to bloom.
This is another from 2005 Seeds that was a 'Pink Flaked' that came out of my 'PF' seeds.
This one grew back 'True'.
So Pretty!

Ok, everyone . . .
PLEASE LISTEN UP!

If you guys don't hear from me for a while,
please take care of starting new threads as needed.
As you are all, I'm sure, aware of 'Hurricane Rita'
and her fast approach to the Texas shores....
I am only 4 hours drive north of the Gulf, but not in the traffic as it is now :-(
I'm pretty much straight north of Galveston.,
This is a VERY DANGEROUS MONSTER-HUGE STORM...
And as far away as I am, Jacksonville IS in her path!
So we will get weather we don't want as a result.
Our small town is even having traffic jams with people driving through headed north.
Some of our gas pumps are already empty - and the motel rooms are all full.
Also, just now heard on Fox news that Galveston is now 90% evacuated ==
and the storm seems to be veering more east of Galveston toward 'High Island'.
Jerry was working in Beaumont and staying at a friends beach home IN THIS AREA,
in Crystal Beach, and came home last night.
This good news with the storm veering east, is that there are not as many people and building structures in that main path when 'Rita' first hits.

My son and daughter-in-law are on their way to me FROM HOUSTON, along with the other million of cars trying to get out of Galveston and Houston areas. My daughter and granddaughter, also in Houston, and her father, my ex, are getting on an airplane for a much needed vacation from running the family business.

Dee, good for you to leave as early as you did.

That said, here is the next Thread

I was looking at some Japanes morning glory photos and found this Star of India (Ipomoea Nil) that looks somewhat like my Asuka NOT. Do you think that is what it is?

Emma, if you are still online, let us know if your family made it to your home safely, I have been watching the news with a sad heart again, this is just too soon after Katrina!!!

God Bless all!!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Laurrie and all....
Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers.
Yes, my son [Jim] and his wife [Jennifer] AND unborn new granddaughter [Jamie Lynn] made it to me ok. Took them10 Hours. My daughter [Cindy], granddaughter [Julia] and ex [Jim] are getting on a plane this morning to California [LA area]. Haven't heard from Cindy yet to see how the airport is. I understand they will be closing down Bush International and Hobby airports at noon today.

Everyone just pray that that 'Monster' stays east of Galveston [even though the pressure is still pushing it back west]. If it does stay on its current path, there are MANY huge and thick forests through that path along the East-Texas and Louisiana border and fewer people, instead of billions of dollars in homes and buildings if she hits Galveston on into Houston. She could still bear west and hit Galveston head on. If that happens, since I am 'straight' due north of Galveston, we will get way too much rain, and great possibility of flooding.

I have my work cut out for me today to water all of my potted plants - and I do have BUNCHES, including my JMG's that are in containers and putting them in my outside building. AND, get any other MG seeds that are ready.

I am only hoping too that we do not lose power. I haven't heard the reports on our area yet this morning, but last night they were projecting that we will get at least 70 mph winds - that will 'hover' over us, dumping 12 - 20 inches of rain.

Emma

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh I will keep my eye on the news, praying hard here!!! Glad to know the children made it safely.

WATERING, LOL that just sounded funny, but if you are putting them inside, yes I understand why you have your work cut out for you, that is alot of plants in pots, good luck and will be thinking of everyone in the path.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, Emma, please stay safe. Seventy mile an hour winds can do so much damage. Hopefully, this huge storm will hit in a sparsely populated area.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Emma please take care and be sure to let us all know how you are.
